Abstract
In recent years, the global incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been rising. As CKD progresses, it frequently involves inflammatory cell infiltration, contributing to renal fibrosis. Current research indicates that abnormalities in lipid metabolism play a role in this fibrotic process. However, the specific effects of various dietary fatty acids on renal inflammation and fibrosis remains largely unexplored. Our study demonstrates that dietary intake of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids can inhibit macrophage activation and infiltration in a mouse model of unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO), thus reducing the severity of renal fibrosis. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly α-linolenic acid (α-LA), mitigate damage to HK-2 cells and macrophages by targeting the JAG1-NOTCH1/2 pathway and by downregulating the expression of the chemokine MCP-1 and its receptor CCR2. This modulation attenuates macrophage activation and infiltration, reducing the inflammatory response. Furthermore, these fatty acids inhibit fibroblast chemotaxis, reduce fibroblast activation, and mitigate the deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM), thus slowing the progression of renal fibrosis. Our findings underscore the protective effects of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as α-LA, in preventing injury, inhibiting macrophage activation, and alleviating fibrosis. These results suggests that adjusting the dietary balance of fatty acids may offer a promising strategy to enhance the efficacy of CKD treatment.

Abstract
Heart rate variability (HRV) monitoring is increasingly applied in the realm of mental disorders; however, it remains a subject of controversy. This umbrella review summarizes HRV differences between individuals with mental disorders and healthy controls (HCs), as well as changes in HRV before and after treatment in patients with mental disorders. A literature search was conducted using Medline, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Database. Meta-analyses on HRV changes in patients with mental disorders, as well as meta-analyses comparing HCs and patients with mental disorders were included. We computed the summary effect size using random effects models, along with 95% confidence and prediction intervals. We assessed heterogeneity, p value of the largest study, excess significance bias, and small-study effects. Evidence levels were classified as convincing, highly suggestive, suggestive, weak, or not significant. Twenty-one systematic reviews on HRV, covering 19 mental disorders (53 meta-analyses) and 8 treatment modalities (18 meta-analyses), included 442 primary studies and 34,625. For differences between mental disorders and HCs, evidence was suggestive for 7 (13.2%) pooled analyses, indicating decreased HRV in dementia, PTSD, somatic symptom disorders, functional somatic syndromes, and schizophrenia. For other disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, alcohol use disorder, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, insomnia, and major depressive disorder, the evidence was weaker and below the suggestive level. For treatment effects, 5 pooled analyses (27.8%) had weak evidence, indicating altered HRV before and after antipsychotic treatment, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment, physiotherapy, and psychotherapy. The credibility of HRV evidence in mental disorders varied across HRV variables and diseases. No two diseases exhibited identical altered HRV patterns, highlighting the potential significance of overall HRV profiles in delineating distinct disorders.

Abstract
To investigate the association between the omega-6 and omega-3 intakes and body fat percentage (BF%), and the risk of obesity, we conducted a cross-sectional analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). We hypothesized that increasing omega-3 or omega-6 intakes could reduce BF% and, consequently, the risk of obesity. Therefore, we utilized data from NHANES collected between 2011 and 2018, focusing on adults aged 20 to 59 years. Omega-3 and omega-6 intakes were categorized into tertiles, and weighted multivariate linear regression models were used to assess their association with BF%. The dose-response relationship was further analyzed using a restricted cubic spline (RCS) function. A total of 6372 adults were included in the study. Both omega-6 and omega-3 intakes were significantly lower in the obese group compared to the non-obese group (P< .05). Multivariable adjusted models demonstrated a significantly lower BF% among participants in the highest tertile of the omega-3 (β = -0.90, 95% CI: -1.25, -0.55, P< .001) and omega-6 group (β = -0.82, 95% CI :-1.17, -0.47, P< .001). An inverse correlation between the omega-3 and omega-6 intakes and BF% was observed (P< .05), consistent across both genders. Restricted cubic splines (RCS) analysis revealed a linear relationship between the omega-3 and omega-6 intakes and BF%, consistent across gender subgroups (P for nonlinear > .05). These findings suggest that higher omega-3 and omega-6 intakes may contribute to reduced obesity risk by lowering BF%. Further longitudinal studies are warranted to validate these results.

Abstract
Oxidative stress and inflammation are considered important risk contributors for various diseases. Over the last few decades, increasing attention has been focused on the role of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) in human health and disease. We aimed to evaluate the effect of n-3 PUFA-enriched chicken meat consumption (~1500 mg of n-3 PUFAs intake per day) for three weeks on oxidative status and antioxidative capacity in young healthy individuals. This was a randomized, double-blinded, controlled trial, in which thirty-nine young healthy people were randomly allocated to eating 500 g/day of regular chicken meat (Control group) or n-3 PUFA-enriched chicken meat (n-3 PUFAs group) over 3 weeks. Subjects' biochemical parameters, including serum lipids level, liver enzymes, serum activities of antioxidant enzymes (glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD)), serum oxidative stress markers (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and ferric-reducing ability (FRAP)), as well as intracellular production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, were assessed before and after completing the three-week dietary protocol. N-3-enriched chicken meat consumption significantly reduced high-sensitivity C reactive protein (hsCRP) serum level and increased the level of the antioxidant defense marker, FRAP. Furthermore, GPx and SOD enzyme activities significantly increased in the n-3 PUFAs group compared to baseline, which was accompanied by significantly decreased ROS production. In healthy young individuals, the 3-week dietary intake of n-3 PUFA-enriched chicken meat significantly increased the serum total antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential, indicating that n-3 PUFAs may be protective in resting health condition without inflammatory processes.

Abstract
Chronic tinnitus is a central nervous system disorder. Currently, the effects of gut microbiota on tinnitus remain unexplored. To explore the connection between gut microbiota and tinnitus, we conducted 16S rRNA sequencing of fecal microbiota and serum metabolomic analysis in a cohort of 70 patients with tinnitus and 30 healthy volunteers. We used the weighted gene co-expression network method to analyze the relationship between the gut microbiota and the serum metabolites. The random forest technique was utilized to select metabolites and gut taxa to construct predictive models. A pronounced gut dysbiosis in the tinnitus group, characterized by reduced bacterial diversity, an increased Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio, and some opportunistic bacteria including Aeromonas and Acinetobacter were enriched. In contrast, some beneficial gut probiotics decreased, including Lactobacillales and Lactobacillaceae. In serum metabolomic analysis, serum metabolic disturbances in tinnitus patients and these differential metabolites were enriched in pathways of neuroinflammation, neurotransmitter activity, and synaptic function. The predictive models exhibited great diagnostic performance, achieving 0.94 (95% CI: 0.85-0.98) and 0.96 (95% CI: 0.86-0.99) in the test set. Our study suggests that changes in gut microbiota could potentially influence the occurrence and chronicity of tinnitus, and exert regulatory effects through changes in serum metabolites. Overall, this research provides new perceptions into the potential role of gut microbiota and serum metabolite in the pathogenesis of tinnitus, and proposes the "gut-brain-ear" concept as a pathomechanism underlying tinnitus, with significant clinical diagnostic implications and therapeutic potential.IMPORTANCETinnitus affects millions of people worldwide. Severe cases may lead to sleep disorders, anxiety, and depression, subsequently impacting patients' lives and increasing societal healthcare expenditures. However, tinnitus mechanisms are poorly understood, and effective therapeutic interventions are currently lacking. We discovered the gut microbiota and serum metabolomics changes in patients with tinnitus, and provided the potential pathological mechanisms of dysregulated gut flora in chronic tinnitus. We proposed the innovative concept of the "gut-brain-ear axis," which underscores the exploration of gut microbiota impact on susceptibility to chronic tinnitus through serum metabolic profile modulation. We also reveal novel biomarkers associated with chronic tinnitus, offering a new conceptual framework for further investigations into the susceptibility of patients, potential treatment targets for tinnitus, and assessing patient prognosis. Subsequently, gut microbiota and serum metabolites can be used as molecular markers to assess the susceptibility and prognosis of tinnitus.Furthermore, fecal transplantation may be used to treat tinnitus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Schizophrenia (SCZ) is a heterogeneous psychiatric disorder that is poorly treated by current therapies. Emerging evidence indicates that SCZ is closely correlated with a persistent neuroinflammation. α-linolenic acid (ALA) is highly concentrated in the brain and represents a modulator of the immune system by decreasing the inflammatory response in chronic metabolic diseases. This study was first designed to investigate the potential role of dietary ALA on cognitive function and neuroinflammation in mice with SCZ. METHODS In vivo, after 2 weeks of modeling, mice were treated with dietary ALA treatment for 6 weeks. In vitro, inflammation model was created using lipopolysaccharide as an inducer in BV2 microglial cells. RESULTS Our results demonstrated that ALA alleviated cognitive impairment and enhanced synaptic plasticity in mice with SCZ. Moreover, ALA mitigated systematic and cerebral inflammation through elevating IL-10 and inhibiting IL-1β, IL-6, IL-18 and TNF-α. Furthermore, ALA notably inhibited microglia and pro-inflammatory monocytes, as well as microglial activation andpolarization. Mechanistically, ALA up-regulated the expressions of G protein coupled receptor (GPR) 120 and associated β-inhibitor protein 2 (β-arrestin2), accompanied by observable weakened levels of transforming growth factor-β activated kinase 1 (TAK1), NF-κB p65, cysteine proteinase-1 (caspase-1), pro-caspase-1, associated speck-like protein (ASC) and NLRP3. In vitro, ALA directly restrained the inflammation of microglia by decreasing the levels of pro-inflammatory factors and regulating microglial polarization via GPR120-NF-κB/NLRP3inflammasome signaling pathway, whereas AH7614 definitely eliminated this anti-inflammatory effect of ALA. CONCLUSION Dietary ALA ameliorates microglia-mediated neuroinflammation by suppressing the NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway via binding GPR120-β-arrestin2.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Previous research suggests a potential link between unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) and ADHD, but the causal relationship remains uncertain. This study aims to investigate the causal association between ADHD and UFAs using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. METHODS Summary data from genome-wide association studies were used to estimate the concentration of circulating UFAs, including Monounsaturated Fatty Acids (MUFAs), Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFAs), Omega-3 PUFAs, Omega-6 PUFAs, Linoleic Acid (LA), and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA). Data from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium, including both childhood and adult ADHD, were respectively used to examine the relationship between genetically predicted UFAs levels and ADHD. Various MR methods, including Inverse-variance weighted (IVW), MR Pleiotropy RESidual Sum and Outlier, MR-Egger, weighted median, and weighted mode, were employed to assess heterogeneity and pleiotropy. RESULTS The IVW revealed only nominal evidence suggesting a potential causal relationship between genetically predicted PUFAs (OR = 0.92, 95% CI [0.85, 0.99], p = .031), Omega-6 PUFAs (OR = 0.90, 95% CI [0.83, 0.98], p = .020), and LA levels (OR = 0.90, 95% CI [0.82, 0.98], p = .021) with childhood ADHD risk. However, after false discovery rate correction, the p-values for PUFAs, Omega-6 PUFAs, and LA levels all exceeded the threshold for significance. For adult ADHD, we did not find any significant associations between the six circulating UFA levels and adult ADHD. CONCLUSION Our findings do not support a causal relationship between UFAs levels and ADHD. This suggests that UFAs supplements may not be effective in improving ADHD symptoms and importantly, it appears that UFAs levels may not have a long-term effect on ADHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Fats, although essential for the proper functioning of the body, have been linked to an increased risk of developing chronic diseases, especially cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the intake of total fat and its components (saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and trans fats) in men and women aged 15 to 65 years of the urban population in eight Latin American countries. METHODS Survey data were collected from the Latin American Study of Nutrition and Health (ELANS, by its acronym in Spanish), an epidemiological study, including 9218 subjects from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. RESULTS In general, 76.2% of the subjects consumed fat within normal ranges (20-35% of the total caloric value (TCV)). When analyzing its components, a majority of the subjects consumed saturated and polyunsaturated fats within the recommended ranges. However, 94.5% of the population does not comply with the recommended maximum intake of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) (10-20%), and only 57.5% comply with the intake recommendation for trans fatty acids (TRANS) (0-2%). Likewise, on average, women had a significantly higher intake of all types of fat compared to men. Finally, the average fat intake by age indicates that regardless of the age range, the consumption of all fats except MUFA and TRANS are within the recommended ranges, with MUFA being slightly below and TRANS above. CONCLUSIONS Even though the fat intake of the population falls within the recommended range, it is necessary to improve the quality by favoring the consumption of MUFA-rich foods regionally accepted, such as avocados, and reducing the consumption of TRANS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the fourth most important food crop after rice, wheat and maize in the world with the potential to feed the world's population, and potato is a major staple food in many countries. Currently, potato is grown in more than 100 countries and is consumed by more than 1 billion people worldwide, and the global annual output exceeds 300 million tons. With the rapid increase in the global population, potato will play a key role in food supply. These aspects have driven scientists to genetically engineer potato for yield and nutrition improvement. AIM OF REVIEW Potato is an excellent source of carbohydrates, rich in vitamins, phenols and minerals. At present, the nutritional fortification of potato has made remarkable progress, and the biomass and nutrient compositions of potato have been significantly improved through agronomic operation and genetic improvement. This review aims to summarize recent advances in the nutritional fortification of potato protein, lipid and vitamin, and provides new insights for future potato research. KEY SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS OF REVIEW This review comprehensively summarizes the biofortification of potato five nutrients from protein, lipid, starch, vitamin to mineral. Meanwhile, we also discuss the multilayered insights in the prospects of edible potato fruit, vaccines and high-value products synthesis, and diploid potato seeds reproduction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adverse pregnancy outcomes have reached epidemic proportions in recent years with serious health ramifications, especially for diverse cancers risk. Therefore, we carried out an umbrella review to systematically evaluate the validity and strength of the data and the extent of potential biases of the established association between adverse pregnancy outcomes and cancers risk in both mother and offspring. METHODS PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched from inception until 18 January 2024. Meta-analyses of observational studies investigating the relationship between adverse pregnancy outcomes and multiple cancers risk in both mother and offspring were included. Evidence certainty was assessed using Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation. The protocol for this umbrella review was prospectively registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023470544). RESULTS The search identified 129 meta-analyses of observational studies and 42 types of cancer. Moderate certainty of evidence, exhibiting statistical significance, has been observed linking per kilogram increase in birth weight to a heightened risk of breast cancer (OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.02-1.12), prostate cancer (OR = 1.02, 95% CI = 1.00-1.05), leukemia (OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.13-1.23), and acute lymphoblastic leukemia in offspring (OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.12-1.23); rubella infection during pregnancy to an increased risk of leukemia in offspring (OR = 2.79, 95% CI = 1.16-6.71); and a linear dose-response association between an increase in the proportion of optimal birth weight and an elevated risk of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in offspring (OR = 1.16, 95% CI = 1.09-1.24), respectively. CONCLUSIONS Although some adverse pregnancy outcomes have clinically promising associations with risk of several cancers in both mother and offspring, it is essential to conduct additional research to solidify the evidence, evaluate causality, and ascertain clinical utility.

Abstract
Low-temperature and low-salt fermented Chinese kohlrabi (LSCK) represents a novel approach to producing low-salt kohlrabi without the need for desalination during processing, as compared to traditional techniques. However, the profile of its non-volatile metabolites remains unclear. In order to investigate the non-volatile metabolites and their changes in LSCK during fermentation, the LSCKs fermented for 0 day (0D), 45 days (45D) and 90 days (90D) were analyzed using LC-MS/MS non-targeted metabolomics coupled with multivariate statistical analysis. The results showed that 60, 74, and 68 differential metabolites were identified in the three groups A1 (0D and 45D), A2 (0D and 90D), and A3 (45D and 90D) (VIP >1, p < 0.05, Log2FC >1), respectively. The differential metabolites were mainly amino acids, peptides, and analogues, fatty acyls, organic acids and derivatives, and carbohydrates and carbohydrate conjugates. Seventeen common differential metabolites were identified in A1, A2, and A3 groups. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis suggested that the alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, butanoate metabolism, α-linolenic acid metabolism, arginine biosynthesis, and phenylalanine metabolism were significantly correlated with the differential metabolites. The present study elucidates for the first time the changes in non-volatile differential metabolites and their associated metabolic pathways in the novel Chinese low-salt kohlrabi, providing a theoretical basis for improving the industrial fermentation process of this innovative product.

Abstract
Semen cryopreservation results in the differential remodeling of the molecules presented in sperm, and these alterations related to reductions in sperm quality and its physiological function have not been fully understood. Given this, this study aimed to investigate the cryoinjury mechanism of goat sperm by analyzing changes of the metabolic characteristics in sperm during the cryopreservation process. The ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF-MS) technique was performed to explore metabolite profiles of fresh sperm (C group), equilibrated sperm (E group), and frozen-thawed sperm (F group). In total, 2570 metabolites in positive mode and 2306 metabolites in negative mode were identified, respectively. After comparative analyses among these three groups, 374 differentially abundant metabolites (DAMs) in C vs. E, 291 DAMs in C vs. F, and 189 DAMs in E vs. F were obtained in the positive mode; concurrently, 530 DAMs in C vs. E, 405 DAMs in C vs. F, and 193 DAMs in E vs. F were obtained in the negative mode, respectively. The DAMs were significantly enriched in various metabolic pathways, including 31 pathways in C vs. E, 25 pathways in C vs. F, and 28 pathways in E vs. F, respectively. Among them, 65 DAMs and 25 significantly enriched pathways across the three comparisons were discovered, which may be tightly associated with sperm characteristics and function. Particularly, the functional terms such as TCA cycle, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, sphingolipid metabolism, glycine, serine and threonine metabolism, alpha-linolenic acid metabolism, and pyruvate metabolism, as well as associated pivotal metabolites like ceramide, betaine, choline, fumaric acid, L-malic acid and L-lactic acid, were focused on. In conclusion, our research characterizes the composition of metabolites in goat sperm and their alterations induced by the cryopreservation process, offering a critical foundation for further exploring the molecular mechanisms of metabolism influencing the quality and freezing tolerance of goat sperm. Additionally, the impacts of equilibration at low temperature on sperm quality may need more attentions as compared to the freezing and thawing process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cognitive impairment is projected to affect a preponderant proportion of the aging population. Lifelong dietary habits have been hypothesized to play a role in preventing cognitive decline. Among the most studied dietary components, fish consumptionhas been extensively studied for its potential effects on the human brain. AIMS To perform a meta-analysis of observational studies exploring the association between fish intake and cognitive impairment/decline and all types of dementia. METHODS A systematic search of electronic databases was performed to identify observational studies providing quantitative data on fish consumption and outcomes of interest. Random effects models for meta-analyses using only extreme exposure categories, subgroup analyses, and dose-response analyses were performed to estimate cumulative risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS The meta-analysis comprised 35 studies. Individuals reporting the highest vs. the lowest fish consumption were associated with a lower likelihood of cognitive impairment/decline (RR = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.75, 0.90, I2 = 61.1%), dementia (RR = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.73, 0.93, I2 = 38.7%), and Alzheimer's disease (RR = 0.80, 95% CI: 0.67, 0.96, I2 = 20.3%). The dose-response relation revealed a significantly decreased risk of cognitive impairment/decline and all cognitive outcomes across higher levels of fish intake up to 30% for 150 g/d (RR = 0.70, 95% CI: 0.52, 0.95). The results of this relation based on APOE ε4 allele status was mixed based on the outcome investigated. CONCLUSIONS Current findings suggest fish consumption is associated with a lower risk of cognitive impairment/decline in a dose-response manner, while for dementia and Alzheimer's disease there is a need for further studies to improve the strength of evidence.

Abstract
Aging is associated with changes in the immune system and the gut microbiota. Immunosenescence may lead to a low-grade, sterile chronic inflammation in a multifactorial and dynamic way, which plays a critical role in most age-related diseases. Age-related changes in the gut microbiota also shape the immune and inflammatory responses. Nutrition is a determinant of immune function and of the gut microbiota. Immunonutrion has been regarded as a new strategy for disease prevention and management, including many age-related diseases. However, the understanding of the cause-effect relationship is required to be more certain about the role of immunonutrition in supporting the immune homeostasis and its clinical relevance in elderly individuals. Herein, we review the remarkable quantitative and qualitative changes during aging that contribute to immunosenescence, inflammaging and microbial dysbiosis, and the effects on late-life health conditions. Furthermore, we discuss the clinical significance of immunonutrition in the treatment of age-related diseases by systematically reviewing its modulation of the immune system and the gut microbiota to clarify the effect of immunonutrition-based interventions on the healthy aging.

Abstract
In 2019, the EAT-Lancet Commission proposed a Planetary Health Diet (PHD) to address challenges toward sustainable and healthy diets. However, its suitability within the Dutch context and a comparison with the Dutch Dietary Guidelines (DDG) needs investigation. Our study aimed to compare the PHD with DDG in terms of food groups, servings, nutritional content, and adequacy in adults. We modeled two theoretical diets, the PHD (PHD-NL) and another based on the DDG (DDG-NL), using the Dutch National Food Consumption Survey (FCS-2016) and Dutch Food Composition Database to calculate the nutritional content and compared it with the Dutch Dietary Reference Values (DRVs). The PHD included higher quantities of vegetables, fish, legumes, and nuts, while the DDG suggested more significant amounts of cereals, tubers, starchy vegetables, dairy, and red meat. We observed differences in macronutrient distribution; while both diets lacked sufficient vitamin D, calcium content was lower in the PHD-NL. The PHD-NL had higher levels of fiber, vegetable protein, unsaturated fats, and non-heme iron, while vitamins B2, B6, B12, and calcium were lower than the DDG-NL diet. The PHD-NL has nutritional adequacy in the Dutch context, except for vitamin D and calcium, although it is essential to be cautious with iron because of the bioavailability of non-heme iron in plant-based diets. These findings have implications for the adoption of a sustainable diet according to nutritional requirements, population health status, and sociocultural context, as well as compliance with specific dietary behaviors of populations.

Abstract
There is an increasing body of evidence supporting a link between low intakes of ω-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) and numerous diseases and health conditions. However, few people are achieving the levels of fish/seafood or eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid intake recommended in national and international guidelines. Knowledge of a person's ω-3 LCPUFA status will benefit the interpretation of research results and could be expected to lead to an increased effort to increase intake. Dietary intake survey methods are often used as a surrogate for measuring ω-3 PUFA tissue status and its impact on health and functional outcomes. However, because individuals vary widely in their ability to digest and absorb ω-3 PUFA, analytical testing of biological samples is desirable to accurately evaluate ω-3 PUFA status. Adipose tissue is the reference biospecimen for measuring tissue fatty acids, but less-invasive methods, such as measurements in whole blood or its components (e.g., plasma, serum, red blood cell membranes) or breast milk are often used. Numerous commercial laboratories provide fatty acid testing of blood and breast milk samples by different methods and present their results in a variety of reports such as a full fatty acid profile, ω-3 and ω-6 fatty acid profiles, fatty acid ratios, as well as the Omega-3 Index, the Holman Omega-3 Test, OmegaScore, and OmegaCheck, among others. This narrative review provides information about the different ways to measure ω-3 LCPUFA status (including both dietary assessments and selected commercially available analytical tests of blood and breast milk samples) and discusses evidence linking increased ω-3 LCPUFA intake or status to improved health, focusing on cardiovascular, neurological, pregnancy, and eye health, in support of recommendations to increase ω-3 LCPUFA intake and testing.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to determine the dietary patterns associated with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and the correlation of dietary inflammatory index (DII) with MCI. METHODS The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was used to assess cognitive function. A semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire was used to collect dietary data and calculate DII. Dietary patterns were determined by reduced-rank regression (RRR), grouping dietary pattern scores and DII into quartiles, with logistic regression for correlation analysis. Dose-response relationships between dietary pattern scores, DII and diabetic MCI were explored using restricted cubic splines (RCS). A mediation analysis was performed to investigate whether DII mediates the association between dietary patterns and MCI. RESULTS In the "Mediterranean-style dietary pattern", the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio of having MCI was 0.37 (95% CI: 0.20-0.68; p for trend=0.002) in the highest versus lowest quartiles of the dietary score. In the "high-meat and low-vegetable pattern", the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio of having MCI was 6.84 (95% CI: 3.58-13.10; p for trend<0.001) in the highest versus lowest quartiles of the dietary score. In the "Western-style dietary pattern", the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio of having MCI was 2.48 (95% CI: 1.38-4.46; p for trend=0.001). The multivariable-adjusted odds ratio of having MCI was 3.99 (95% CI: 2.14-7.42; p for trend<0.001) in the highest versus lowest quartiles of DII. There is a non-linear dose-response relationship between the "high-meat and low-vegetable pattern" score and the prevalence of MCI, as well as the DII and the prevalence of MCI. The DII partially mediated the impact of the "Mediterranean-style dietary pattern" and the "high-meat and low-vegetable pattern" on MCI. CONCLUSION In T2DM patients, greater adherence to the "Mediterranean-style dietary pattern" is associated with a lower probability of having MCI. However, excessive consumption of meat, especially red meat and processed meat, combined with a lack of vegetable intake, is associated with a higher probability of having MCI. Greater adherence to the "Western-style dietary pattern" is associated with a higher probability of having MCI. In addition, a pro-inflammatory diet is associated with a higher probability of having MCI, and DII partially mediates the impact of dietary patterns on MCI.

Abstract
Exogenous supplementation of guanidinoacetic acid can mechanistically regulate the energy distribution in muscle cells. This study aimed to investigate the effects of guanidinoacetic acid supplementation on liver and breast muscle fat deposition, lipid levels, and lipid metabolism-related gene expression in ducks. We randomly divided 480 42 days-old female Jiaji ducks into four groups with six replicates and 20 ducks for each replicate. The control group was fed the basal diet, and the experimental groups were fed the basal diet with 400, 600, and 800 mg/kg (GA400, GA600, and GA800) guanidinoacetic acid, respectively. Compared with the control group, (1) the total cholesterol (p = 0.0262), triglycerides (p = 0.0357), malondialdehyde (p = 0.0452) contents were lower in GA400, GA600 and GA800 in the liver; (2) the total cholesterol (p = 0.0365), triglycerides (p = 0.0459), and malondialdehyde (p = 0.0326) contents in breast muscle were decreased in GA400, GA600 and GA800; (3) the high density lipoprotein (p = 0.0356) and apolipoprotein-A1 (p = 0.0125) contents were increased in GA600 in the liver; (4) the apolipoprotein-A1 contents (p = 0.0489) in breast muscle were higher in GA600 and GA800; (5) the lipoprotein lipase contents (p = 0.0325) in the liver were higher in GA600 and GA800; (6) the malate dehydrogenase contents (p = 0.0269) in breast muscle were lower in GA400, GA600, and GA800; (7) the insulin induced gene 1 (p = 0.0326), fatty acid transport protein 1 (p = 0.0412), and lipoprotein lipase (p = 0.0235) relative expression were higher in GA400, GA600, and GA800 in the liver; (8) the insulin induced gene 1 (p = 0.0269), fatty acid transport protein 1 (p = 0.0234), and lipoprotein lipase (p = 0.0425) relative expression were increased in GA400, GA600, and GA800 in breast muscle. In this study, the optimum dosage of 600 mg/kg guanidinoacetic acid improved the liver and breast muscle fat deposition, lipid levels, and lipid metabolism-related gene expression in ducks.

Abstract
Background Mental disorders are considered to be the main reason for the increase of the disease burden. College students seem to be more vulnerable to the adverse effects of stress, which makes them more at risk of suffering from mental disorders. This umbrella review aimed to evaluate the credibility of published evidence regarding the effects of interventions on mental disorders among university students. Methods To identify systematic reviews and meta-analyses investigating the effects of interventions on mental disorders in the university student population, extensive searches were carried out in databases including PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Database, spanning from inception to July 21, 2023. Subsequently, a thorough reanalysis of crucial parameters such as summary effect estimates, 95 % confidence intervals, heterogeneity I2 statistic, 95 % prediction intervals, small-study effects, and excess significance bias was performed for each meta-analysis found. Results Nineteen articles involving 74 meta-analyses were included. Our grading of the current evidence showed that interventions based on exercise, Cognitive-behavioural Intervention (CBI), mindfulness-based interventions (MBI), and other interventions like mood and anxiety interventions (MAI) were effective whereas exercise intervention had the highest effect size for both depression and anxiety among university students. However, the credibility of the evidence was weak for most studies. Besides, suggestive evidence was observed for the positive effects of CBI on sleep disturbance(SMD: -0.603, 95 % CI: -0.916, -0.290; P-random effects<0.01) and MAI on anxiety (Hedges'g = -0.198, 95 % CI: -0.302, -0.094; P-random effects<0.01). Conclusion Based on our findings, it appears that exercise interventions, CBI, and MAI have the potential to alleviate symptoms related to mental disorders. Despite the overall weak credibility of the evidence and the strength of the associations, these interventions offer a promising avenue for further exploration and research in the future. More high-quality randomized controlled trials should be taken into account to verify the effects of these interventions on various mental disorders.

Abstract
The gut microbiota (GM) and its metabolites affect the host nervous system and are involved in the pathogeneses of various neurological diseases. However, the specific GM alterations under pathogenetic pressure and their contributions to the "microbiota - metabolite - brain axis" in Alzheimer's disease (AD) remain unclear. Here, we investigated the GM and the fecal, serum, cortical metabolomes in APP/PS1 and wild-type (WT) mice, revealing distinct hub bacteria in AD mice within scale-free GM networks shared by both groups. Moreover, we identified diverse peripheral - central metabolic landscapes between AD and WT mice that featured bile acids (e.g. deoxycholic and isodeoxycholic acid) and unsaturated fatty acids (e.g. 11Z-eicosenoic and palmitoleic acid). Machine-learning models revealed the relationships between the differential/hub bacteria and these metabolic signatures from the periphery to the brain. Notably, AD-enriched Dubosiella affected AD occurrence via cortical palmitoleic acid and vice versa. Considering the transgenic background of the AD mice, we propose that Dubosiella enrichment impedes AD progression via the synthesis of palmitoleic acid, which has protective properties against inflammation and metabolic disorders. We identified another association involving fecal deoxycholic acid-mediated interactions between the AD hub bacteria Erysipelatoclostridium and AD occurrence, which was corroborated by the correlation between deoxycholate levels and cognitive scores in humans. Overall, this study elucidated the GM network alterations, contributions of the GM to peripheral - central metabolic landscapes, and mediatory roles of metabolites between the GM and AD occurrence, thus revealing the critical roles of bacteria in AD pathogenesis and gut - brain communications under pathogenetic pressure.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a lack of synthesis of literature to determine hepatitis B vaccine (HepB) strategies for hepatitis B virus (HBV) supported by quality evidence. We aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of HepB strategies among people with different characteristics. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science were searched for meta-analyses comparing the efficacy and safety of HepB up to July 2023. RESULTS Twenty-one meta-analyses comparing 83 associations were included, with 16 high quality, 4 moderate, and 1 low quality assessed by AMSTAR 2. Highly suggestive evidence supports HepB booster and HepB with 1018 adjuvant (HBsAg-1018) for improved seroprotection, and targeted and universal HepB vaccination reduced HBV infection Suggestive evidence indicated that targeted vaccination decreased the rate of hepatitis B surface antibody positivity and booster doses increased seroprotection in people aged 10-20. Weak evidence suggests potential local/systemic reaction risk with nucleotide analogs or HBsAg-1018. Convincing evidence shows HLA-DPB1*04:01 and DPB1*04:02 increased, while DPB1*05:01 decreased, hepatitis B antibody response. Obesity may reduce HepB seroprotection, as highly suggested. CONCLUSION Targeted vaccination could effectively reduce HBV infection, and adjuvant and booster vaccinations enhance seroprotection without significant reaction. Factors such as obesity and genetic polymorphisms may affect the efficacy.

Abstract
The gut microbiota has been found to interact with the brain through the microbiota-gut-brain axis, regulating various physiological processes. In recent years, the impacts of the gut microbiota on neurodevelopment through this axis have been increasingly appreciated. The gut microbiota is commonly considered to regulate neurodevelopment through three pathways, the immune pathway, the neuronal pathway, and the endocrine/systemic pathway, with overlaps and crosstalks in between. Accumulating studies have identified the role of the microbiota-gut-brain axis in neurodevelopmental disorders including autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and Rett Syndrome. Numerous researchers have examined the physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms influenced by the gut microbiota in neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of advancements in research pertaining to the microbiota-gut-brain axis in NDDs. Furthermore, we analyzed both the current state of research progress and discuss future perspectives in this field.

Abstract
Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a group of neurodevelopmental disorders that affect social communication, behavior, and sensory processing, in which PUFAs are considered important. This mini-review article aims to investigate the current evidence regarding the use of essential fatty acids (EFAs) in the treatment of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). The study examines various research studies, related to EFAs, their benefits, and their role in ASD treatment. The article focuses on exploring the potential mechanisms underlying the effects of EFAs on ASDs, including their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties. Furthermore, the study discusses limitations and challenges associated with the use of EFAs in ASD treatment, including variability in dosage and duration of treatment. The results of this review indicate that while some studies suggest a positive effect of EFAs on ASD symptoms, there is currently insufficient evidence to support their routine use as a stand-alone treatment for ASD. The need for further research to better understand the potential benefits and limitations of EFAs in ASD treatment is highlighted.

Abstract
Rationale: The endocannabinoid system is known to be involved in learning, memory, emotional processing and regulation of personality patterns. Here we assessed the endocannabinoid profile in the brains of mice with strong characteristics of social dominance and submissiveness. Methods: A lipidomics approach was employed to assess the endocannabinoidome in the brains of Dominant (Dom) and Submissive (Sub) mice. The endocannabinoid showing the greatest difference in concentration in the brain between the groups, docosatetraenoyl ethanolamine (DEA), was synthesized, and its effects on the physiological and behavioral responses of Dom and Sub mice were evaluated. mRNA expression of the endocannabinoid receptors and enzymes involved in PUFA biosynthesis was assessed using qRT-PCR. Results: Targeted LC/MS analysis revealed that long-chain polyunsaturated ethanolamides including arachidonoyl ethanolamide (AEA), DEA, docosatrienoyl ethanolamide (DTEA), eicosatrienoyl ethanolamide (ETEA), eicosapentaenoyl ethanolamide (EPEA) and docosahexaenoyl ethanolamide (DHEA) were higher in the Sub compared with the Dom mice. Untargeted LC/MS analysis showed that the parent fatty acids, docosatetraenoic (DA) and eicosapentaenoic (EPA), were higher in Sub vs. Dom. Gene expression analysis revealed increased mRNA expression of genes encoding the desaturase FADS2 and the elongase ELOVL5 in Sub mice compared with Dom mice. Acute DEA administration at the dose of 15 mg/kg produced antinociceptive and locomotion-inducing effects in Sub mice, but not in Dom mice. Subchronic treatment with DEA at the dose of 5 mg/kg augmented dominant behavior in wild-type ICR and Dom mice but not in Sub mice. Conclusion: This study suggests that the endocannabinoid system may play a role in the regulation of dominance and submissiveness, functional elements of social behavior and personality. While currently we have only scratched the surface, understanding the role of the endocannabinoid system in personality may help in revealing the mechanisms underlying the etiopathology of psychiatric disorders.

Abstract
Introduction Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), characterized by the presence of obsessions and/or compulsions, is often difficult to diagnose and treat in routine clinical practice. The candidate circulating biomarkers and primary metabolic pathway alteration of plasma in OCD remain poorly understood. Methods We recruited 32 drug-naïve patients with severe OCD and 32 compared healthy controls and applied the untargeted metabolomics approach by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS) to assess their circulating metabolic profiles. Both univariate and multivariate analyses were then utilized to filtrate differential metabolites between patients and healthy controls, and weighted Correlation Network Analysis (WGCNA) was utilized to screen out hub metabolites. Results A total of 929 metabolites were identified, including 34 differential metabolites and 51 hub metabolites, with an overlap of 13 metabolites. Notably, the following enrichment analyses underlined the importance of unsaturated fatty acids and tryptophan metabolism alterations in OCD. Metabolites of these pathways in plasma appeared to be promising biomarkers, such as Docosapentaenoic acid and 5-Hydroxytryptophan, which may be biomarkers for OCD identification and prediction of sertraline treatment outcome, respectively. Conclusion Our findings revealed alterations in the circulating metabolome and the potential utility of plasma metabolites as promising biomarkers in OCD.

Abstract
Background and aimsGout, the most prevalent inflammatory arthritis, has undesirable effects on the quality of life. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) has a strong link with anti-inflammatory impacts. However, whether the harmful effects of seafood in relation to gout may vary owing to different levels of n-3 PUFA in seafood is still unclear. It was the goal of this study to examine the relationship between n-3 PUFA poor/rich seafood consumption and gout.MethodsBetween 2007 and 2016, five NHANES cycles were performed, with 12,505 subjects having complete data for gout and two 24-h dietary intake interviews. The 24-h dietary recalls were utilized to evaluate dietary habits. Gout was defined based on questionnaires. Weighted logistic regression models were conducted to investigate the association between n-3 PUFA poor/rich seafood consumption and gout. Moreover, subgroup analysis was utilized to estimate the stability of results. Covariates including age, gender, race/ethnicity, income, education, body mass index, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, smoking status, and drinking status were stratified in different models.ResultsIn the fully adjusted model, each unit of increase of n-3 PUFA poor seafood intake was associated with an 8.7% increased risk of gout (OR = 1.087, 95% CI: 1.039, 1.138, P < 0.001), whereas, no correlation was found between n-3 PUFA rich seafood consumption and gout. It also provided a proof-of-concept regarding the potential for n-3 PUFA rich seafood to counteract harmful effects of purines in relation to gout. A dose-response analysis showed that there was a non-linear relationship between n-3 PUFA rich seafood intake and the risk of gout in the female group.ConclusionFindings suggest that n-3 PUFA poor seafood consumption is associated with higher risk of gout, whereas n-3 PUFA rich seafood is not.

Abstract
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting approximately 5% of children worldwide. The causal mechanisms of ADHD remain unclear as the aetiology of this disorder seems to be multifactorial. One research field addresses the impact on lipid metabolism and particularly serum lipid fractions on the development of ADHD symptoms. This post hoc analysis aimed to investigate long-term changes in serum levels of lipoproteins in children and adolescents with ADHD and controls. Data of German children and adolescents from the nationwide and representative "Kinder- und Jugendgesundheitssurvey (KiGGS)" study were analysed at baseline and at a ten-year follow-up. At the two time points, participants in the control group were compared with those in the ADHD group, both before and after propensity score matching. Differences in total cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins (LDL), high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and triglycerides were assessed between matched children with and without ADHD. In addition, subgroups with versus without methylphenidate use were compared at both time points. At baseline before matching, there were no significant differences for lipid parameters between participants in the ADHD group (n = 1,219) and the control group (n = 9,741): total cholesterol (Exp(ß) = 0.999, 95%-CI 0.911-1.094, p = .979), LDL (Exp(ß) = 0.967, 95%-CI 0.872-1.071, p = .525), HDL (Exp(ß) = 1.095, 95%-CI 0.899-1.331, p = .366) and triglycerides (Exp(ß) = 1.038, 95%-CI 0.948-1.133, p = .412). Propensity score matching confirmed the non-significant differences between the ADHD and non-ADHD group at baseline. At the 10-year follow-up, n = 571 participants fulfilled complete inclusion criteria, among them 268 subjects were classified as ADHD. The two groups did not significantly differ in lipid fractions, neither cross-sectionally nor with regard to long-term changes. There was also no significant difference between methylphenidate subgroups. In this sample of children and adolescents we could not reveal any significant associations between serum lipid fractions and the diagnosis of ADHD, neither cross-sectionally nor longitudinally; even when methylphenidate use was considered. Thus, further studies using larger sample sizes are required to investigate putative long-term changes in serum lipid fractions related to ADHD.

Abstract
(1) Background: Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt. is an important pharmaceutical crop that remains a focus point for researchers worldwide due to its complex phytochemical constituents, medicinal effects, and nutraceutical properties. The literature data are based on animal and cell culture studies, so the clinical evidence for the therapeutic effects is poorly outlined. The aim of this review was to provide an updated and thorough understanding of Perilla frutescens applications in clinical practice using data derived from human studies, and to outline the potential directions and perspectives for further studies on this crop. (2) Methods: Medline, Embase, and Cochrane databases were used to find relevant studies. All interventional studies that evaluated the effect of Perilla frutescens in human subjects were assessed. (3) Results: The main perspectives that can be contoured from the presented literature evaluation are an important clinical effect of Perilla frutescens extracts on allergic rhinoconjuctivitis, especially in young populations, a potent hypolipemiant effect that, in conjunction with increased serum biological antioxidant potential, determines significant improvements in cognitive function and a wide variety of miscellaneous clinical effects that need further exploration. (4) Conclusions: Supplementary research is needed in order to demonstrate the therapeutic effects of Perilla frutescens in controlled clinical settings.
