Abstract
Background Severe mental illness (SMI) is associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Dyslipidaemia is a potentially modifiable risk factor, which may be inadequately managed in patients with SMI. Objectives To assess management of dyslipidaemia in patients with SMI versus healthy controls (HCs) in 2005 and 2015. Design and methods Using Danish registers, we identified adult patients with SMI in the Greater Copenhagen Area (schizophrenia spectrum disorders or bipolar disorder) with ⩾1 general practitioner contact in the year before 2005 and 2015, respectively, and HCs without SMI matched on age and gender (1:5). Outcomes were lipid-profile measurements, presence of dyslipidaemia and redemption of lipid-lowering pharmacotherapy. Differences in outcomes between patients with SMI and controls were measured with multivariable logistic regression. Results We identified 7217 patients with SMI in 2005 and 9939 in 2015. After 10 years, patients went from having lower odds of lipid measurements to having higher odds of lipid measurements compared with HCs [odds ratio (OR)2005 0.70 (99% confidence interval (CI) 0.63-0.78) versus OR2015 1.34 (99% CI 1.24-1.44); p2005versus2015 < 0.01]. Patients had higher odds of dyslipidaemia during both years [OR2005 1.43 (99% CI 1.10-1.85) and OR2015 1.23 (99% CI 1.08-1.41)]. Patients went from having lower odds of receiving lipid-lowering pharmacotherapy to having higher odds of receiving lipid-lowering pharmacotherapy [OR2005 0.77 (99% CI 0.66-0.89) versus OR2015 1.37 (99% CI 1.24-1.51); p2005versus2015 < 0.01]. However, among persons at high cardiovascular risk, patients had lower odds of receiving lipid-lowering pharmacotherapy during both years, including subsets with previous acute coronary syndrome [OR2005 0.30 (99% CI 0.15-0.59) and OR2015 0.44 (99% CI 0.24-0.83)] and ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA) [OR2005 0.43 (99% CI 0.26-0.69) and OR 2015 0.61 (99% CI 0.41-0.89)]. Conclusion These results imply an increased general awareness of managing dyslipidaemia among patients with SMI in the primary prophylaxis of cardiovascular disease. However, secondary prevention with lipid-lowering drugs in patients with SMI at high cardiovascular risk may be lacking.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Dyslipidemia is a modifiable major risk factor for coronary heart disease. Although, the prevalence of dyslipidemia in high-income countries has been well documented, there is dearth of information about the dyslipidemia among working adults in sub-Saharan African countries including Ethiopia. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the magnitude of dyslipidemia and its associated factors among Haramaya University employees, in Eastern Ethiopia. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1,200 university employees aged 20 to 60 years. Study participants were selected using a simple random sampling method. Data were collected face-to-face interview using a semi-structured questionnaire. Dyslipidemia was defined as unhealthy levels of one or more lipid profile such as high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides or total cholesterol. Data were entered into Epidata version 3.1 and analyzed using STATA version 16.1 software. Modified Poisson regression with robust variance was used to estimate adjusted prevalence ratios (APR) with its 95% confidence intervals. Statistical significance was declared at P-value < 0.05. RESULTS Of 1,164 participants, 59.6% participants had at least one lipid abnormality (i.e., 57.9% among men and 61.5% among women). Of which, 36.8% had high total cholesterol (TC), 21.6% had low high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), 22.4% had high low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), and 32.6% had high triglyceride (TG). We found that overweight/obesity, sedentary behavior, alcohol consumption, having hypertension and age 45 and above years were significant predictors of dyslipidemia. However, those who served fruit and vegetables more than five per day had significantly reduced prevalence ratio of dyslipidemia. CONCLUSIONS The high prevalent dyslipidemia among university employees is an important public health problem. Hence, tailored interventions to reduce overweight/obesity, hypertension, alcohol consumption and low fruit and vegetable intake have paramount importance to tackle dyslipidemia particularly among older age.

Abstract
Alcohol consumption is a proven risk factor of dyslipidemia. In the present analysis, we investigated the association of alcohol intake with dyslipidemia, an emerging epidemic in China, in male patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Our study participants were from a nationwide registry (n = 1181). A questionnaire was administered to collect information on alcohol intake. Dyslipidemia was defined as an elevated concentration of serum triglycerides (≥2.3 mmol/L), total (≥6.2 mmol/L) or low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (≥4.1 mmol/L), or a reduced high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (< 1.0 mmol/L). Serum concentrations of triglycerides (1.60 mmol/L) and total (4.93 mmol/L) and LDL cholesterol (2.95 mmol/L) were highest with current usual drinking, with a significant P value for trend from never (n = 679) to ever (n = 107) and to rare (n = 187) and usual drinkers (n = 208, P ≤ .002). Serum HDL cholesterol (1.13 mmol/L) was lowest in ever drinkers, with a nonsignificant P value for trend (P = .22). The prevalence was highest in usual drinkers for hypertriglyceridemia (27.4%) and total (12.5%) and LDL hypercholesterolemia (8.7%), and in ever drinkers for low HDL cholesterol (34.6%). The P value for trend was significant for hypertriglyceridemia and total hypercholesterolemia (P ≤ .01), but not for LDL hypercholesterolemia or low HDL cholesterol (P ≥ .26). The between-province ecological analysis showed that the proportion of usual drinking was significantly associated with the prevalence of any dyslipidemia across 10 China provinces (r = .42, P < .0001). In conclusion, alcohol drinkers showed a worse lipid profile in patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Usual drinking ecologically explained the between-province variation in the prevalence of dyslipidemia.
