Abstract
Sex differences, driven in part by steroid hormones, shape the structure and function of the brain throughout the lifespan and manifest across brain health and disease. The influence of steroid hormones on neuroplasticity, particularly in the adult hippocampus, differs between the sexes, which has important implications for disorders and diseases that compromise hippocampus integrity, such as depression and Alzheimer disease. This Review outlines the intricate relationship between steroid hormones and hippocampal neuroplasticity across the adult lifespan and explores how the unique physiology of male and female individuals can affect health and disease. Despite calls to include sex and gender in research, only 5% of neuroscience studies published in 2019 directly investigated the influence of sex. Drawing on insights from depression, Alzheimer disease and relevant hippocampal plasticity, this Review underscores the importance of considering sex and steroid hormones to achieve a comprehensive understanding of disease susceptibility and mechanisms. Such consideration will enable the discovery of personalized treatments, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes for all.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION We investigated the roles of group ethnicity and display rules of emotions in the neuropsychology of social cognition in Asian American and White participants recruited from a majority-minority college campus. METHOD 128 participants (mean age = 24.9 years) completed: 1) Advanced Clinical Solutions-Social Perception (ACS-SP), which includes separate measures of affect naming of facial expressions and emotional prosody interpretation of audio statements; 2) Display Rule Assessment Inventory (DRAI), a self-report measure of emotional expressivity across four settings (family, close friends, colleagues, and strangers) and in two distinct domains (should/actual) that asks participants what they believe people should do (social value) and what they would actually do (behavioral self-report). RESULTS ACS-SP revealed evidence of cultural bias, as reflected by group ethnicity differences, for recognition of emotional prosody but not emotional facial expressions for Asian American versus White participants. The DRAI showed significant cultural differences only for family relationships with White participants endorsing stronger belief in the social value of expressing negative emotions of sadness, aversion, and fear. These AC-SP and DRAI group differences remained significant when covarying for spoken English language, as measured by an oral word reading test. Hierarchical regression results indicated that group ethnicity and family display rules each made specific and significant contributions to neuropsychological performance but did so in very different and distinct ways. Group ethnicity exerted its greatest effect on prosody interpretation whereas family display rules had its most pronounced influence on affect naming. CONCLUSIONS The current results may help inform and advance culturally responsive neuropsychological models of social cognition.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To introduce New2Neuropsychology (N2N), an organization that seeks to increase recruitment of historically underrepresented minoritized (URM) students, and to examine preliminary data on N2N's impact and effectiveness in increasing knowledge about neuropsychology for URM students. METHOD This paper reviews relevant literature on factors informing the development of N2N. We also present descriptive data on N2N's impact to date, and results of pre- and post- surveys for presentations about neuropsychology delivered to 90 college students (mean age = 24.23, 64.4% juniors or seniors) between November 2021 - March 2023. RESULTS N2N has reached >500 students in events across 27 schools and, with the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology, disseminated $84,000 in scholarships to URM students. N2N presentation attendees reported increased understanding of neuropsychology and the training pathway (ps < .001, Cohen's ds = 0.94 - 1.73) and increased confidence in their ability to become neuropsychologists (p < .001, d = 0.41). There were no overall pre-post differences for interest in pursuing a career in neuropsychology (p > .05); however, a subset of students who reported low interest at baseline (n = 57) reported a statistically significant increase in their interest post-presentation (p < .01, d = 0.36). CONCLUSIONS To date, N2N has progressed toward its goal, showing preliminary success increasing knowledge about neuropsychology for URM students. With continued development and support, N2N seeks to transform the pathway to neuropsychology for URM students, expanding accessibility of N2N resources across diverse groups and connecting URM students to neuropsychology research and clinical experiences.

Abstract
In the ever-evolving field of clinical neuropsychology, significant methodological and conceptual limitations hinder progress. To ensure the continued relevance of this discipline amidst remarkable advancements in neuroscience, medicine, and methodology, these obstacles must be addressed. This opinion article identifies inherent limitations within current clinical neuropsychology, including issues such as multi-collinearity in neuropsychological assessments, lack of validated tools reflecting contemporary cognitive function models, and the use of divergent theoretical frameworks in evaluations, leading to a gap between theory and practice. The disconnect between behavior and biomarkers, particularly evident in neurodegenerative diseases but also relevant for other pathologies, together with the rise of genetic analyses, necessitate change. Methodological improvements are crucial for ensuring the discipline's future relevance. Looking ahead, key perspectives and challenges are outlined, emphasizing the need for a holistic approach to cognitive functioning and congruent tools, patient engagement in experimental studies, rectification of biases, and exploration of variables like personality. Training professionals to bridge the gap between practice and research is essential. By addressing these challenges, clinical neuropsychology can not only adapt to the evolving landscape but also shape it, ensuring a brighter future for the field.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The values of a field are reflected in the science it publishes. The goal of this study was to present a historical analysis of the extent to which the field of clinical neuropsychology publishes journals with titles that address culture in the context of brain function and behavior between 2010 and 2020. METHODS Titles from articles published in 13 neuropsychology journals from 2010-2020 were collected and coded with regard to culture and multicultural content. The aims of the study were to (1) determine how often cultural or multicultural topics were represented in journal titles, (2) determine if cultural or multicultural content in neuropsychology journal publication titles increased over time, and (3) to explore other neuropsychological content that was most and least likely to appear in publications pertaining to culture or multicultural issues. RESULTS Results indicated that titles for publications in clinical neuropsychology journals with content relevant to cultural or multicultural neuropsychology represented 1.1% to 13.4% of titles across the 13 journals. The number of cultural/multicultural titles increased over time. The number of cultural/multicultural titles per journal was not significantly correlated with the journal impact factor. Normative data were addressed significantly more often in cultural/multicultural titles versus non-cultural/multicultural titles, whereas psychiatric issues were addressed significantly less often. CONCLUSIONS There are many actions that clinical neuropsychologists can take to increase the field's attention to the effects of culture on brain function and behavior. It is vital to update our data from 2021 to the present, given the substantial increase in awareness of social justice issues that occurred since 2020.

Abstract
Objective: The pediatric patient populations in the United States are becoming increasingly diverse in culture. In addition to medical factors, a variety of sociocultural factors (including educational systems, language, immigration status, etc.) can impact a child's cognitive development, performance on traditional neuropsychological measures, provider interactions, differential diagnosis, and recommendations. A culturally-informed neuropsychological evaluation aims to understand the impact of sociocultural factors and integrate them into the assessment approach. Fujii's ECLECTIC framework (acronym for Education & Literacy, Culture/Acculturation, Language, Economic Issues, Communication Style, Testing Situation, Intelligence Conceptualization, and Context of Immigration) can be used to guide culturally-informed neuropsychological evaluations of children with complex medical conditions. Method: Using the ECLECTIC framework, this paper describes clinical considerations and offers practical solutions for providing culturally-informed pediatric neuropsychology evaluations. Four diverse patients with spina bifida are reviewed. Results: The case presentations highlight the application of the ECLECTIC framework within a medically complex pediatric patient population. Conclusions: Spina bifida is one example of a pediatric medical population in which both medical and sociocultural factors can impact cognitive development and the evaluation process. The ECLECTIC framework defines a variety of sociocultural factors that can influence cognitive development and multiple aspects of a pediatric neuropsychological evaluation. Pediatric neuropsychologists should use the ECLECTIC framework to provide culturally-informed evaluations for our increasingly diverse patient populations.

Abstract
The geological epoch of the Anthropocene has challenged traditional definitions of what intellectual abilities are necessary to creatively problem-solve, understand, and address contemporary societal and environmental crises. If we hope to make meaningful changes to how our society addresses these complex issues and pave the way for a better future for generations to come, we must advance traditional theories and measures of higher-order abilities to reflect equity and inclusion. To this end, we must address global issues by integrating the complexities of intersectional identities as they impact our understanding of what constitutes intelligence in individuals, groups, and diverse communities. This re-envisioning of intelligence presents new complexities for understanding and challenges for our field beyond the boundaries of what has been previously touted by many disciplines, including psychology. It is an opportunity to re-envision what it means to be intelligent in a diverse global context while also honoring and recognizing the value of difference, positionality, and other ways of knowing.

Abstract
Sex differences are a robust finding in many areas of adult health, including cardiovascular disease, psychiatric disorders, and chronic pain. However, many sex differences are not consistently observed until after the onset of puberty. This has led to the hypothesis that hormones are primary contributors to sex differences in health outcomes, largely ignoring the relative contributions of early developmental influences, emerging psychosocial factors, gender, and the interaction between these variables. In this paper, we argue that a comprehensive understanding of sex and gender contributions to health outcomes should start as early as conception and take an iterative biopsychosocial-developmental perspective that considers intersecting social positions. We present a conceptual framework, informed by a review of the literature in basic, clinical, and social science that captures how critical developmental stages for both sex and gender can affect children's health and longer-term outcomes. The literature on pediatric chronic pain is used as a worked example of how the framework can be applied to understanding different chronic conditions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The field of cultural neuropsychology has grown exponentially over the last three decades. With a limited culturally informed evidence base to guide neuropsychological practice, the acceptability of existing paradigms has been called into question when applied to culturally diverse and educationally disadvantaged groups. This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of Greek Australian older adults who underwent a cognitive assessment to better understand potential barriers and facilitators to engagement and to improve neuropsychological assessment outcomes. METHOD Semi-structured interviews were developed to explore cultural attitudes and contextual factors relating to neuropsychological assessment. Interviews were conducted by Greek-speaking neuropsychologists using a sample of 10 healthy elderly Greek Australians following the completion of a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment. Data were analyzed using a phenomenological design within a critical realist framework. RESULTS Analysis revealed the emergence of three broad themes: sociocultural factors, experiences within the broader medical system, and the assessment experience. Engagement with cognitive assessment was influenced by several factors, including rapport building, understanding of the assessment, and use of inappropriate tests. Furthermore, level and quality of education, sex differences, language barriers, acculturation, previous experiences of prejudice, anxiety, and a preference for Greek-speaking clinicians were additional factors reported to affect the client experience and validity of assessment outcomes. CONCLUSION Neuropsychological assessment is, in part, affected by culturally reinforced attitudes. Failing to adjust the relationship between the clinician and client, test environment, style of communication, and the use of culturally inappropriate tests is likely to affect the validity of assessment outcomes.
