Abstract
Human vibriosis, caused by pathogenic Vibrio spp., such as Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio vulnificus, has been increasing worldwide, mediated by increasing consumption of seafood. The present study was conducted to examine the global prevalence of V. vulnificus, V. parahaemolyticus and V. cholerae in fishes. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and CNKI for peer-reviewed articles and dissertations prior to December 31, 2021. A total of 24,831 articles were retrieved, and 82 articles contained 61 fish families were included. The global pooled prevalence of V. cholerae, V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus in fishes was 9.56 % (95 % CI: 2.12-20.92), 24.77 % (95 % CI: 17.40-32.93) and 5.29 % (95 % CI: 0.38-13.61), respectively. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses showed that study-level covariates, including temperature, country, continent, origin and detection methods partly explained the between-study heterogeneity. These heterogeneities were underpinned by differences of the three Vibrio spp. in fishes at geographical and climatic scales. These results reveal a high global prevalence of pathogenic Vibrio spp. in fishes and highlight the need for implementation of more effective prevention and control measures to reduce food-borne infection in humans.

Abstract
Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a common foodborne pathogen that causes gastroenteritis worldwide. Determining its prevalence and genetic diversity will minimize the risk of infection and the associated economic burden. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) is an important tool for molecular epidemiology and population genetic studies of bacteria. Here, we analyzed the genetic and evolutionary relationships of 162 V. parahaemolyticus strains isolated in the Guangdong Province, China, using MLST. In the study, 120 strains were isolated from food samples, and 42 strains were isolated from clinical samples. All strains were categorized into 100 sequence types (STs), of which 58 were novel (48 from the food isolates and 10 from the clinical isolates). ST415 was the most prevalent ST among the food isolates, while ST3 was the most prevalent ST among the clinical isolates. Further, 12 clonal complexes, 14 doublets, and 73 singletons were identified in all ST clusters, indicating high genetic diversity of the analyzed strains. At the concatenated sequence level, non-synonymous sites in both, food and clinical isolates, were associated with purifying selection. Of note, the dN/dS ration was greater than 1 for some housekeeping genes in all isolates. This is the first time that some loci under positive selection were identified. These observations confirm frequent recombination events in V. parahaemolyticus. Recombination was much more important than mutation for genetic heterogeneity of the food isolates, but the probabilities of recombination and mutations were almost equal for the clinical isolates. Based on the phylogenetic analysis, the clinical isolates were concentrated in the maximum-likelihood tree, while the food isolates were heterogeneously distributed. In conclusion, the food and clinical isolates of V. parahaemolyticus from the Guangdong Province are similar, but show different evolutionary trends. This may help prevent large-scale spread of highly virulent strains and provides a genetic basis for the discovery of microevolutionary relationships in V. parahaemolyticus populations.

Abstract
Antibacterial packaging film mediated by photodynamic inactivation (PDI) is a new concept in food industry. The objective of this study was to fabricate a green 2,3-dialdehyde cellulose (DAC)-based antimicrobial film with PDI potency by incorporating the β-cyclodextrin/curcumin (β-CD/Cur) complex as a photosensitizer. The PDI-mediated films were characterized by evaluating the surface morphology, chemical structure, light transmittance, mechanical properties, photochemical and thermal stability, and water solubility. The results showed that the DAC-CD/Cur films were soluble in water and mechanically strong with a tensile strength of 63.87 MPa and an elongation break of 1.32%, which was attributed to the formation of hydrogen bonds between DAC and β-CD/Cur molecules. Meanwhile, the composite films possessed a good light transmittance but impeded the penetration of ultraviolet light and efficiently delayed the degradation of curcumin. More importantly, the PDI-mediated films exhibited a broad-spectrum ability to kill Listeria monocytogenes, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Shewanella putrefaciens in pure culture. Notably, they also potently inactivated these harmful bacteria on ready-to-eat salmon with a maximum of ∼4 Log CFU/g (99.99%) reduction after 60 min irradiation (13.68 J/cm2). Therefore, the PDI-mediated DAC-CD/Cur films are novel and promising antimicrobial food packaging films in food industry.

Abstract
AIMS Infection of seafood with pathogenic species of the genus Vibrio causes human food-borne illnesses. This study was executed to examine the antimicrobial resistance phenotypes, biofilm-forming capability and virulence-associated genes of Vibrio from fish and shellfishes. METHODS AND RESULTS Three hundred fresh water and marine fish and shellfish samples were collected from wet markets and supermarkets in Mansoura, Egypt. Bacteriological examination and PCR amplification identified 92 Vibrio spp., including 42 Vibrio parahaemolyticus and 50 Vibrio alginolyticus isolates from the examined fish and shellfish (infection rate: 30·67%). However, V. vulnificus was not found in this study. Vibrio spp. exhibited variable frequencies of antimicrobial resistance with higher percentages to ampicillin and penicillin. Multidrug resistance (MDR) was detected in 69·04 and 38% of V. parahaemolyticus and V. alginolyticus respectively. PCR testing of virulence genes, tdh, trh and tlh revealed the presence of tlh and trh in 100 and 11·9% of V. parahaemolyticus isolates respectively and none of V. alginolyticus carried any of these genes. Biofilm-forming capability was displayed by 76% of V. parahaemolyticus and 73·8% of V. alginolyticus isolates. Both V. parahaemolyticus and V. alginolyticus showed nonsignificant weak positive correlations (r < 0·4) between antimicrobial pairs belonging to different classes; however, a significant positive correlation (P <0·05) between trh and resistance to erythromycin (r = 0·45) and imipenem (r = 0·38) was only identified in V. parahaemolyticus. CONCLUSIONS This study reports the existence of MDR strains of V. parahaemolyticus and V. alginolyticus from the common types of fishes and shellfishes in Egypt. Furthermore, the presence of virulence genes in these isolates and the ability to produce a biofilm in vitro pose potential health hazards to consumers. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY Frequent monitoring of seafood for the presence of Vibrio spp. and their antimicrobial susceptibility, virulence determinants and biofilm-forming capability is important for assessing the risk posed by these organisms to the public and for improving food safety.
