Optical Coherent Tomography Predicts Long-Term Visual Outcome of Pituitary Adenoma Surgery: New Perspectives From a 5-Year Follow-up Study

Endoscopic Endonasal Transsphenoidal Resection of Pituitary Adenomas in Patients Presenting With Monocular Blindness

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES

Suprasellar tumors, particularly pituitary adenomas (PAs), commonly present with visual decline, and the endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach (EETA) is the primary management for optic apparatus decompression. Patients presenting with complete preoperative monocular blindness comprise a high-risk subgroup, given concern for complete blindness. This retrospective cohort study evaluates outcomes after EETA for patients with PA presenting with monocular blindness.

METHODS

Retrospective analysis of all EETA cases at our institution from June 2012 to August 2023 was performed. Inclusion criteria included adults with confirmed PA and complete monocular blindness, defined as no light perception, and a relative afferent pupillary defect secondary to tumor mass effect.

RESULTS

Our cohort includes 15 patients (9 males, 6 females), comprising 2.4% of the overall PA cohort screened. The mean tumor diameter was 3.8 cm, with 6 being giant PAs (>4 cm). The mean duration of preoperative monocular blindness was 568 days. Additional symptoms included contralateral visual field defects (n = 11) and headaches (n = 10). Two patients presented with subacute PA apoplexy. Gross total resection was achieved in 46% of patients, reflecting tumor size and invasiveness. Postoperatively, 2 patients experienced improvement in their effectively blind eye and 2 had improved visual fields of the contralateral eye. Those with improvements were operated within 10 days of presentation, and no patients experienced worsened vision.

CONCLUSION

This is the first series of EETA outcomes in patients with higher-risk PA with monocular blindness on presentation. In these extensive lesions, vision remained stable for most without further decline and improvement from monocular blindness was observed in a small subset of patients with no light perception and relative afferent pupillary defect. Timing from vision loss to surgical intervention seemed to be associated with improvement. From a surgical perspective, caution is warranted to protect remaining vision and we conclude that EETA is safe in the management of these patients.

Predicting visual recovery in pituitary adenoma patients post-endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery: Harnessing delta-radiomics of the optic chiasm from MRI

OBJECTIVES

To investigate whether morphological changes after surgery and delta-radiomics of the optic chiasm obtained from routine MRI could help predict postoperative visual recovery of pituitary adenoma patients.

METHODS

A total of 130 pituitary adenoma patients were retrospectively enrolled and divided into the recovery group (n = 87) and non-recovery group (n = 43) according to visual outcome 1 year after endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery. Morphological parameters of the optic chiasm were measured preoperatively and postoperatively, including chiasmal thickness, deformed angle, and suprasellar extension. Delta-radiomics of the optic chiasm were calculated based on features extracted from preoperative and postoperative coronal T2-weighted images, followed by machine learning modeling using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator wrapped with support vector machine through fivefold cross-validation in the development set. The delta-radiomic model was independently evaluated in the test set, and compared with the combined model that incorporated delta-radiomics, significant clinical and morphological parameters.

RESULTS

Postoperative morphological changes of the optic chiasm could not significantly be used as predictors for the visual outcome. In contrast, the delta-radiomics model represented good performances in predicting visual recovery, with an AUC of 0.821 in the development set and 0.811 in the independent test set. Moreover, the combined model that incorporated age and delta-radiomics features of the optic chiasm achieved the highest AUC of 0.841 and 0.840 in the development set and independent test set, respectively.

CONCLUSIONS

Our proposed machine learning models based on delta-radiomics of the optic chiasm can be used to predict postoperative visual recovery of pituitary adenoma patients.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT

Our delta-radiomics-based models from MRI enable accurate visual recovery predictions in pituitary adenoma patients who underwent endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery, facilitating better clinical decision-making and ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Preoperative volume of the optic chiasm is an easily obtained predictor for visual recovery of pituitary adenoma patients following endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery: a cohort study

BACKGROUND

Predicting the postoperative visual outcome of pituitary adenoma patients is important but remains challenging. This study aimed to identify a novel prognostic predictor which can be automatically obtained from routine MRI using a deep learning approach.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

A total of 220 pituitary adenoma patients were prospectively enrolled and stratified into the recovery and nonrecovery groups according to the visual outcome at 6 months after endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery. The optic chiasm was manually segmented on preoperative coronal T2WI, and its morphometric parameters were measured, including suprasellar extension distance, chiasmal thickness, and chiasmal volume. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted on clinical and morphometric parameters to identify predictors for visual recovery. Additionally, a deep learning model for automated segmentation and volumetric measurement of optic chiasm was developed with nnU-Net architecture and evaluated in a multicenter data set covering 1026 pituitary adenoma patients from four institutions.

RESULTS

Larger preoperative chiasmal volume was significantly associated with better visual outcomes ( P =0.001). Multivariate logistic regression suggested it could be taken as the independent predictor for visual recovery (odds ratio=2.838, P <0.001). The auto-segmentation model represented good performances and generalizability in internal (Dice=0.813) and three independent external test sets (Dice=0.786, 0.818, and 0.808, respectively). Moreover, the model achieved accurate volumetric evaluation of the optic chiasm with an intraclass correlation coefficient of more than 0.83 in both internal and external test sets.

CONCLUSION

The preoperative volume of the optic chiasm could be utilized as the prognostic predictor for visual recovery of pituitary adenoma patients after surgery. Moreover, the proposed deep learning-based model allowed for automated segmentation and volumetric measurement of the optic chiasm on routine MRI.

Evaluation of preoperative visual pathway impairment in patients with non-functioning pituitary adenoma using diffusion tensor imaging coupled with optical coherence tomography

Objective

Optic chiasma compression and associated visual impairment induced by a non-functioning pituitary adenoma (NFPA) is commonly assessed by the optic disk and retina but is inadequate to understand the entire visual pathway impairment. We aim to evaluate the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) coupled with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) for the preoperative evaluation of visual pathway impairment.

Methods

Fifty-three patients with NFPA (categorized into mild and heavy compression subgroups) were subjected to OCT to calculate the thickness of the circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (CP-RNFL), macular ganglion cell complex (GCC), macular ganglion cell layer (GCL), and macular inner plexus layer (IPL), as well as to DTI to calculate the fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values.

Results

Compared to mild compression, heavy compression caused decreased FA value, increased ADC value of several segments of the visual pathway, thin temporal CP-RNFL, and quadrant macular GCC, IPL, and GCL. Average CP-RNFL thickness, inferior-macular inner-ring IPL and GCC thicknesses, inferior CP-RNFL thickness, and superior CP-RNFL thickness were the best indicators of the impairment of the optic nerve, optic chiasma, optic tract, and optic radiation, respectively.

Conclusion

DTI and OCT parameters can effectively evaluate visual pathway impairment and are beneficial for the objective preoperative evaluation of visual pathway impairment in patients with NFPA.

MRI-Based Classification of Rathke's Cleft Cyst and Its Clinical Implication

BACKGROUND

Rathke's cleft cysts (RCCs) are benign tumors of the pituitary gland. Small, asymptomatic RCCs do not require surgical treatment, whereas surgical treatment is required for symptomatic RCCs.

METHODS

We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients with an RCC who were diagnosed and managed in our institution between April 2004 and April 2020 and generated two different cohorts: the observation (n=114) and the surgical group (n=99). Their initial MRI signal characteristics were analyzed. The natural course focusing on cyst size was observed in the observation group and postoperative visual and endocrine outcomes were evaluated in the surgical group.

RESULTS

The characterization of MRI signals of cyst contents in both T1-weighted (T1W) and T2-weighted (T2W) images revealed nine combinations for our 213 patients. Among 115 patients with a high T2W signal, the cysts showed hypo-, iso-, and hyper-intensity on T1W images in 72, 39, and 44 patients, respectively; Type S-low, Type S-iso, and Type S-high. One more major group of 35 patients showed RCCs with hyperintensity on the T1W images and hypointensity on the T2W images named as Type M. In the comparison between observation and surgical groups, we identified only two major groups in which the number of patients in the surgical and observation groups was statistically different: more Type S-low in a surgical group (p<0.001) and more Type M in an observation group (p=0.007). In subgroup analysis, the range of change in the cyst size was the highest in Type S-high in the observation group (p=0.028), and intergroup differences in visual and endocrine outcomes were not evident in the surgical group.

CONCLUSION

MRI characteristics help to predict the natural course of RCCs. We identified subgroups of RCCs which are more or less likely to require surgical intervention.

Ocular Optical Coherence Tomography in the Evaluation of Sellar and Parasellar Masses: A Review

Compression of the anterior visual pathways by sellar and parasellar masses can produce irreversible and devastating visual loss. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive high-resolution ocular imaging modality routinely used in ophthalmology clinics for qualitative and quantitative analysis of optic nerve and retinal structures, including the retinal ganglion cells. By demonstrating structural loss of the retinal ganglion cells whose axons form the optic nerve before decussating in the optic chiasm, OCT imaging of the optic nerve and retina provides an excellent tool for detection and monitoring of compressive optic neuropathies and chiasmopathies due to sellar and parasellar masses. Recent studies have highlighted the role of OCT imaging in the diagnosis, follow-up, and prognostication of the visual outcomes in patients with chiasmal compression. OCT parameters of optic nerve and macular scans such as peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and macular ganglion cell thickness are correlated with the degree of visual loss; additionally, OCT can detect clinically significant optic nerve and chiasmal compression before visual field loss is revealed on automated perimetry. Preoperative values of OCT optic nerve and macular parameters represent a prognostic tool for postoperative visual outcome. This review provides a qualitative analysis of the current applications of OCT imaging of the retina and optic nerve in patients with anterior visual pathway compression from sellar and parasellar masses. We also review the role of new technologies such as OCT-angiography, which could improve the prognostic ability of OCT to predict postoperative visual function.

Visual field improvement after endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery in patients with pituitary adenoma

Purpose

To analyze and predict the possibility of visual field (VF) recovery after endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery (ETSS) in patients with pituitary adenoma, we investigated the factors affecting the improvement of the visual field defect (VFD) and built a nomogram predictive model based on these risk factors. We further investigated specific recovery regions of VF associated with the improvement of VFD.

Methods

The clinical data of patients who underwent ETSS for pituitary adenomas at a single center between the January 2021 and April 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine the predictive factors affecting the improvement in the VF defect and specific recovery regions in patients with pituitary adenomas after ETSS.

Results

We enrolled 28 patients (56 eyes) who were hospitalized at our institution. Four clinical features, including compression of the optic chiasm, preoperative mean defect (MD), diffuse defect, and duration of the visual symptom, were chosen from the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis to establish the predictive nomogram. The nomogram's area under the curve (AUC) was 0.912, indicating a good degree of differentiation. A calibration plot was used to evaluate the predictive model's calibration, and a decision curve was used to evaluate its clinical application value. The VF defects were improved in the 270-300° range (270-300: RR = 361.00, 95% CI: 21.01-6,202.41).

Conclusion

We developed a predictive nomogram model based on significant visual field improvement-associated factors after ETSS in patients with pituitary adenoma. Postoperative visual field improvement is likely to begin at 270-300° in the inferior temporal quadrant. This improvement would enable personalized counselling for individual patients by precisely predicting the visual field recovery after surgery.

The spatial-temporal reactive changes of compressed optic nerve in a clinically relevant rabbit model of persistent compressive optic nerve axonopathy

The optic nerve (ON) can get compressed in different diseases. However, the pathological and functional changes occurring in the compressed ON over time under constant compression are still unclear. In the present study, we implanted an artificial tube around the optic nerve of a rabbit to primarily create a clinically relevant persistent compressive optic nerve axonopathy (PCOA). Due to the protuberance on the inner ring of the tube, steady and persistent compressions were maintained. In this model, we investigated the thickness of ganglion cell complex (GCC), retinal ganglion cell (RGC) density, axon density of optic nerve, flash visual evoked potential (FVEP), and anterograde axonal transport at various times in four different groups viz. the no comp, 1/2 comp, 3/4 comp, and crush groups. The GCC thickness, RGC density, and axon density of ON were hierarchically and significantly decreased in 1/2 comp, 3/4 comp, and crush groups. Compared to no comp eyes, the P2 amplitude ratio of FVEP was significantly decreased in 3/4 comp but not in 1/2 comp eyes. Only a portion of the optic nerve lost the ability of anterograde axonal transport in the 1/2 comp group. However, it was evident at 2-wpo and more prominent at 4-wpo in 3/4 comp eyes. This study reveals that the compression only induces the homolateral ON axons impairment and the proportion of the affected axons maintains the same for mild compression for at least three months. Furthermore, an underlying threshold effect highlights that mild compression does not require urgent surgery, while the severe compression warrants immediate surgical intervention.

Preoperative Peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness as the Prognostic Factor of Postoperative Visual Functions After Endoscopic Transsphenoidal Surgery for Pituitary Adenoma

Purpose

To evaluate the prognostic ability of preoperative peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (pRNFLT) for predicting postoperative visual functions, including the visual field index (VFI) and visual acuity (VA), of subjects with pituitary adenoma (PA) who were treated with endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary adenoma (ETSS-PA) exclusively.

Subjects and Methods

This 11-year retrospective study was performed at a single institution in Thailand. Sixty-six eyes of 33 subjects who had a PA compressing the anterior visual pathway and were treated with ETSS-PA alone were included. The pRNFLT was measured globally and in the four quadrants preoperatively, using optical coherence tomography. Multivariable analysis and area under the curve (AUC) were used to demonstrate the prognostic ability of preoperative pRNFLT for postoperative visual functions (> 1 month but < 6 months after ETSS-PA).

Results

The mean postoperative VFI and median postoperative VA were 79.45% ± 24.24% and 0.14 [interquartile range: 0.02, 0.40] logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution. Among the 56 eyes with a reliable postoperative VFI, thicker preoperative temporal (odds ratio, 1.18; p = 0.024) and inferior (odds ratio, 1.07; p = 0.013) pRNFLT values were associated with a postoperative VFI > 90%. The strongest association occurred with the preoperative temporal pRNFLT (AUC = 0.821, 95% CI: 0.720-0.923) with a cut-off value of 60 µm. Multivariable analysis for all 66 eyes showed that thicker preoperative inferior-quadrant pRNFLT (odds ratio, 1.05; p = 0.001) was associated with a postoperative VA of at least 20/25. The strongest performance was found with the preoperative inferior pRNFLT (AUC = 0.732, 95% CI: 0.615-0.849) with a cut-off value of 105 µm.

Conclusion

Preoperative pRNFLT offers clinical utility for predicting visual functions after ETSS-PA. Temporal pRNFLT ≥ 60 µm and inferior pRNFLT ≥105 µm predicted postoperative VFI > 90% and postoperative VA better than or equal to 20/25, respectively.

Resolution of Visual Field Defect in Macroprolactinoma After Treatment With Cabergoline

We report the case of a 49-year-old woman presenting with amenorrhea and progressive visual field defect for one month. Endocrinological workup revealed a high concentration of serum prolactin, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed pituitary macroadenoma with extrasellar extension as well as compression of optic nerves. Treatment with a dopamine agonist, cabergoline, for eight weeks led to the resolution of the visual field defect accompanied by a rapid decrease in the serum prolactin level. Follow-up MRI three months after the initial diagnosis revealed alleviation of visible mechanical compression of the optic chiasm by the tumor. We considered that the absence of retinal nerve damage and prompt initiation of cabergoline contributed to the rapid recovery of the visual acuity.

Diagnostic and Prognostic Utility of Optical Coherence Tomography in Patients with Sellar/Suprasellar Lesions with Chiasm Impingement: A Systematic Review/ Meta-Analyses

BACKGROUND

In this review, we appraised the current literature on the utility of optical coherence tomography (OCT) as a diagnostic and predictive factor for postoperative visual function outcomes in patients with sellar/suprasellar lesions with chiasmal impingement.

METHODS

A systematic search of PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Cochrane Library was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Included studies described diagnostic or prognostic utility of OCT in patients with sellar/suprasellar lesions with chiasmal impingement. Meta-analysis was represented with mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals. Meta-regression was performed to determine predictive factors of visual outcomes.

RESULTS

Forty-eight articles were identified for final pooled analysis, representing a total of 2,435 patients with compressive sellar/suprasellar lesions and 952 healthy controls. Mean age was 43.3(11.4) years, with 1,494(48.8%) male and 1,566(51.2%) female patients. Mean retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL) was significantly different in the study population compared to healthy controls(75.8μ[13.2] vs 91.4μ[10.8], p<0.00001). The nasal segment of RNFL had the largest mean difference (MD -9.76[-12.39, -7.13], p<0.0001). Visual acuity, visual field mean deviation (VF-MD), and visual field pattern standard deviation, all showed significant differences between the study population and healthy controls as well(p<0.0001). Meta-regressions showed significant predictive capability of preoperative RNFL in determining visual function outcome (p<0.05).

CONCLUSION

Our findings provide promising support for the growing evidence that OCT parameters can be utilized as both a diagnostic and prognostic tool for patients with compression of the optic apparatus. There is a need for further studies to gain a better understanding of OCTs and to improve patient outcomes.

Prognostic Utility of Optical Coherence Tomography for Visual Outcome After Extended Endoscopic Endonasal Surgery for Adult Craniopharyngiomas

INTRODUCTION

Owing to the close vicinity of the optic chiasma, visual dysfunction is known as one of the most common surgical indications and postoperative complications in adult patients with craniopharyngiomas, probably leading to poor quality of life. Historically, very few consistent predictive factors associated with the visual outcome are identified, which may not be helpful for patient counseling and preoperative decision making. Recently, optical coherence tomography (OCT) serving as a novel high-resolution imaging technique can assess the retinal morphology by measuring the circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cpRNFL) and macular ganglion cell complex thickness. However, few studies have examined the prognostic utility of OCT parameters for visual outcome after surgery for craniopharyngiomas. This study aims to use the largest series to evaluate the association between OCT parameters and visual outcome after extended endoscopic endonasal surgery (EEES) for primary craniopharyngiomas in adults.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

From October 2018 to October 2020, one hundred and seventy eyes in 88 adult patients with newly confirmed craniopharyngiomas were retrospectively reviewed and pertinent prognostic factors were analyzed.

RESULTS

Gross total resection was performed in 82 (93.2%) patients. The median postoperative follow-up time was 10.9 months. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that increased temporal cpRNFL thickness was associated with higher odds of visual acuity (VA) improvement and maintenance (OR = 1.070; 95% CI, 1.005-1.140; p = 0.035), and greater inferior cpRNFL thickness was significantly associated with visual field (VF) improvement and maintenance (OR = 1.034; 95% CI, 1.001-1.068; p = 0.046). Furthermore, tight adhesion between optic nerves and craniopharyngiomas was demonstrated as an independent adverse factor for either postoperative VA or VF (p = 0.048, p = 0.030, respectively). The ROC results further verified the robustness of the prediction model either in VA (AUC = 0.843; 95% CI, 0.734-0.952; p < 0.001) or VF (AUC = 0.849; 95% CI, 0.741-0.958; p < 0.001).

CONCLUSION

Preoperative OCT can effectively predict visual outcome after EEES for adult craniopharyngiomas. It can also serve as a reliable alternative to evaluate preoperative visual field defects, especially for patients with lower compliance. Tight adhesion was confirmed as an independent risk factor for postoperative visual outcome. The OCT-based multivariable prediction models developed in the present study may contribute to patient counseling on visual prognosis.

Predictive value of OCT and MRI for postoperative visual recovery in patients with chiasmal compressive lesions

PURPOSE

We aimed to investigate the predictive value of retinal thickness measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and mass biometrics measured using magnetic resonance image (MRI) for visual recovery after surgery for removal of a mass compressing the optic chiasm.

METHODS

Consecutive patients who showed typical temporal visual field defect (VFD) with respect to the vertical meridian due to a chiasmal compressive mass and who underwent mass removal surgery were recruited. Ophthalmic examination was performed preoperatively and postoperatively. Retinal thickness was measured by the Cirrus OCT. The height and size of the mass and suprasellar extension (SSE) in both the sagittal and coronal planes were evaluated. Patients were divided into two groups based on the improvement in VFD (mean deviation [MD] change ≥ 5 dB: group R; others: group NR) and clinical characteristics were compared.

RESULTS

Fifteen patients were included in the study. Eight (53.3%) patients were allocated into group R and others (7 patients, 46.7%) into group NR. Age, sex, initial visual acuity, initial MD was not different between the two groups. The retinal thicknesses were not different while tumor height, volume, and both sagittal and coronal SSE were significantly different between the two groups. (p = 0.029, 0.014, <0.001, and <0.001, respectively) All MRI parameters showed significant predictive value for the degree of MD recovery.

CONCLUSION

MRI showed better predictive value than OCT in predicting postoperative VFD recovery in patients with temporal VFDs due to chiasmal compressive disorder.

The different structure-function correlation as measured by OCT and octopus perimetry cluster analysis in intracranial tumor and glaucoma patients

BACKGROUND

To explore the correlation between visual field (VF) defect values and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness for intracranial tumor and glaucoma patients.

METHODS

Retrospective analysis is performed for the intracranial and glaucoma patients, whose VF defect values were measured with Octopus perimeter cluster analysis, RNFL thickness, ganglion cell layer (GCL) thickness, and optic disk parameters measured with swept-source OCT. The differences between VF and RNFL (including the data of optic disc) are calculated. The correlation between VF defect values and RNFL and GCL thickness are explored.

RESULTS

In total 43 eyes of 29 patients with intracranial tumor and 31 eyes of 19 patients with glaucoma were enrolled. The thickness of RNFL not only for the whole (360°), but also for the four quadrants was thinner in the glaucoma group than those of the intracranial tumor group (p<0.05), and similar to the thickness of GCL without significance (p>). There is no significant difference in VF for those two groups except glaucoma having lower sLV (p<0.05). A stronger correlation for mean deviations (MD)s of VF ten clusters and RNFL thickness of OCT twelve sectors is found in the glaucoma patients, but few in the intracranial tumor patients. Logistic regression also shows the loss of RNFL or increasing of vertical CDR and cup volume tending to the diagnosis of glaucoma and the irregular VF damage is inclined to the diagnosis of intracranial tumor.

CONCLUSIONS

Intracranial tumor has a weak correlation between the RNFL thickness and Octopus VF MD, compared with that of glaucoma. OCT and Octopus VF might provide more helpful information for the differential diagnosis of intracranial tumor and glaucoma.

Machine Learning-Based Radiomics of the Optic Chiasm Predict Visual Outcome Following Pituitary Adenoma Surgery

Preoperative prediction of visual recovery after pituitary adenoma surgery remains a challenge. We aimed to investigate the value of MRI-based radiomics of the optic chiasm in predicting postoperative visual field outcome using machine learning technology. A total of 131 pituitary adenoma patients were retrospectively enrolled and divided into the recovery group (N = 79) and the non-recovery group (N = 52) according to visual field outcome following surgical chiasmal decompression. Radiomic features were extracted from the optic chiasm on preoperative coronal T2-weighted imaging. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression were first used to select optimal features. Then, three machine learning algorithms were employed to develop radiomic models to predict visual recovery, including support vector machine (SVM), random forest and linear discriminant analysis. The prognostic performances of models were evaluated via five-fold cross-validation. The results showed that radiomic models using different machine learning algorithms all achieved area under the curve (AUC) over 0.750. The SVM-based model represented the best predictive performance for visual field recovery, with the highest AUC of 0.824. In conclusion, machine learning-based radiomics of the optic chiasm on routine MR imaging could potentially serve as a novel approach to preoperatively predict visual recovery and allow personalized counseling for individual pituitary adenoma patients.
