DEVELOPMENT AND ESTIMATION OF HUMAN DOSIMETRY OF A NEW 47SC-RISEDRONATE FOR RADIOPHARMACEUTICAL APPLICATION

Evaluation of 188Re- IBA as a novel radiopharmaceutical for bone marrow ablation

In this study, Ibandronate as a third generation of bisphosphonates was labeled with rhenium-188 radionuclide. Production and quality control of 188Re-IBA radiopharmaceutical was investigated. The radiation absorbed dose of this radiopharmaceutical was evaluated for adult male based on biodistribution data in mice using the RADAR and Sparks and Aydogan methodologies. The 188Re-IBA was produced with more than 96% radiochemical purity. The highest value of %ID/g was related to bone with 7.11% at 12 h post-injection. About 48% of injected activity was cumulated on the surface of bone tissue 48 h post-injection. The imaging studies confirmed the biodistribution pattern. Radiation absorbed doses of red bone marrow and osteogenic cells were estimated to about 0.39 and 0.71 mGy MBq-1, respectively. The maximum administrated activity was obtained 73.1 MBq kg-1 (2.0 mCi kg-1) of body weight. Effective dose was evaluated about 0.09 mSv MBq-1. The results were compared with other clinically used bone pain palliation radiopharmaceuticals. It was concluded that the 188Re-IBA radiopharmaceutical has a great tendency to be absorbed in bone tissue and it can provide sufficient care for bone marrow ablation with low undesired dose to other normal organs.

Internal dosimetry of 64Cu-DOX-loaded microcapsules by Monte Carlo method

Some of the issues regarding introducing new radiocompounds in nuclear medicine are the distribution patterns, delivered dose to different organs, diagnostic abilities and side effects. In this study, in order to assess the biodistribution of ⁶⁴Cu-DOX-loaded microcapsules, rats were IV-injected with the microcapsules, and 1, 4, 14, and 24 h later, the activities of the targeted organs were measured (%ID/g). The accumulated activities were achieved by %ID/g curves, and S-factors were obtained by MCNP outputs. The MIRD formulation and Monte Carlo method were used to determine the absorbed dose in the target organs. The biodistribution data and PET-CT images showed that the lungs were where the majority of activity was seen. According to MIRD and MCNP, the maximum dose delivered in the lungs was 5.79E+01 mGy/MBq and 4.70E+01 mGy/MBq, respectively. Also, the effective dose was 1.2E+01 for MIRD and 8.31E+00 mSv/MBq for MCNP. These results indicate that ⁶⁴Cu-DOX microcapsules can be considered a new radiocompound in pulmonary imaging, and MCNP simulation can be a reliable method for internal dosimetry.

A study on the cross-section data of 43,44m,46,47Sc isotopes via (d,x) reactions on natural abundance targets under the effects of deuteron optical models

Many studies have investigated the influence of theoretical models and factors involved in the acquisition of cross-section data of a nuclear reaction. The implications of different models of various variables such as level density, gamma strength function, and optical potentials on cross-section calculations whether used solo or jointly are investigated in a significant portion of the works conducted in this perspective. The aim of this particular study is to investigate the influence of different optical models on the cross-section calculations in production of several scandium isotopes, known for various medical uses, from several targets with natural abundances by (d,x) reactions. For this purpose, the cross-section calculations using five available deuteron optical models of TALYS code in ^natTi(d,x)⁴³Sc, ^natTi(d,x)^44mSc, ^natTi(d,x)⁴⁶Sc, ^natTi(d,x)⁴⁷Sc, ^natV(d,x)⁴⁷Sc and ^natCr(d,x)⁴⁷Sc reactions were performed and the obtained calculation results were compared with the experimental cross-section data gathered from the literature. To understand whether there is a significant and consistent relationship between the experimental data and the calculation results, both have been plotted together and analyzed with the naked-eye. In addition, the calculations of the mean standardized deviation, the mean relative deviation, the mean ratio and the mean square logarithmic deviation were performed in order to evaluate the results numerically.
