Abstract
Proper regulation of the in vitro cell culture environment is essential for disease modelling and drug toxicity screening. The main limitation of well plates used for cell culture is that they cannot accurately maintain energy sources and compounds needed during cell growth. Herein, to understand the importance of perfusion in cardiomyocyte culture, changes in contractile force and heart rate during cardiomyocyte growth are systematically investigated, and the results are compared with those of a perfusion-free system. The proposed perfusion system consists of a Peltier refrigerator, a peristaltic pump, and a functional well plate. A functional well plate with 12 wells is made through injection moulding, with two tubes integrated in the cover for each well to continuously circulate the culture medium. The contractile force of cardiomyocytes growing on the cantilever surface is analysed through changes in cantilever displacement. The maturation of cardiomyocytes is evaluated through fluorescence staining and western blot; cardiomyocytes cultured in the perfusion system show greater maturity than those cultured in a manually replaced culture medium. The pH of the culture medium manually replaced at intervals of 3 days decreases to 6.8, resulting in an abnormal heartbeat, while cardiomyocytes cultured in the perfusion system maintained at pH 7.4 show improved contractility and a uniform heart rate. Two well-known ion channel blockers, verapamil and quinidine, are used to measure changes in the contractile force of cardiomyocytes from the two systems. Cardiomyocytes in the perfusion system show greater stability during drug toxicity screening, proving that the perfusion system provides a better environment for cell growth.

Abstract
Significant hypercalcaemia can occur in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Immobilisation hypercalcaemia has been infrequently reported after ICU admission. Patients, therefore, usually require extensive workup to rule out other common causes of hypercalcaemia, such as hyperparathyroidism. A case series of five patients who were diagnosed with hypercalcaemia due to immobilisation and received treatment with pamidronate between 2019 and 2023 were reported. The majority of cases were assessed as having hypercalcaemia due to immobilisation in the setting of low to normal parathyroid hormone levels, no suspicion of malignancy, and absence of other possible causative factors. Treatment with pamidronate started 10 to 60 days after hypercalcaemia was identified, and one or two doses of 30 mg of pamidronate were successful in resolving it. Immobilisation hypercalcaemia following ICU admission was uncommon but treatable with pamidronate.

Abstract
In this narrative review we report the main relationships between trace metals and the hemostatic system since this aspect has seldom attracted the attention of the scientific community. A basic aspect to be considered is the importance of maintaining the fine control of all trace metals' levels since they have an important impact on the pathophysiology of the hemostatic system. It is worth noting that poor diet habits are responsible for most trace metal deficiencies, while pollution is responsible for dangerous exposure to them with a consequent negative impact on the general population. This appears of paramount importance in planning the implementation of food and nutrient support to ameliorate the hidden hunger and the quality of life of people especially in developing countries and limiting poisons both in the air and food. As it often happens, when damage to certain mechanisms takes a very long time to appear, no attention is paid to the importance of a systematic prevention to avoid late negative outcomes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Early recognition and management of hemorrhage, damage control resuscitation, and blood product administration have optimized management of severe trauma. Recent data suggest hypocalcemia exacerbates the ensuing effects of coagulopathy in trauma. OBJECTIVE This narrative review of available literature describes the physiology and role of calcium in trauma resuscitation. Authors did not perform a systematic review or meta-analysis. DISCUSSION Calcium is a divalent cation found in various physiologic forms, specifically the bound, inactive state and the unbound, physiologically active state. While calcium plays several important physiologic roles in multiple organ systems, the negative hemodynamic effects of hypocalcemia are crucial to address in trauma patients. The negative ramifications of hypocalcemia are intrinsically linked to components of the lethal triad of acidosis, coagulopathy, and hypothermia. Hypocalcemia has direct and indirect effects on each portion of the lethal triad, supporting calcium's potential position as a fourth component in this proposed lethal diamond. Trauma patients often present hypocalcemic in the setting of severe hemorrhage secondary to trauma, which can be worsened by necessary transfusion and resuscitation. The critical consequences of hypocalcemia in the trauma patient have been repeatedly demonstrated with the associated morbidity and mortality. It remains poorly defined when to administer calcium, though current data suggest that earlier administration may be advantageous. CONCLUSIONS Calcium is a key component of trauma resuscitation and the coagulation cascade. Recent data portray the intricate physiologic reverberations of hypocalcemia in the traumatically injured patient; however, future research is needed to further guide the management of these patients.

Abstract
Purpose We conducted a retrospective study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of regional citrate anticoagulation (RCA) versus those of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) anticoagulation for CVVH in severe hypercalcemia patients. Methods Between January 2014 and May 2019, 33 severe hypercalcemia patients underwent CVVH. Patients were divided into the RCA and LMWH groups. Calcium-free replacement solution was used. Serum total calcium reduction rate (RRSeCa), filter lifespan, bleeding, totCa/ionCa ratio, citrate accumulation, and catheter occlusion were evaluated as outcomes. Results RCA and LMWH were employed for CVVH in 14 and 43 filters, respectively. RRSeCa was not significantly different between the LMWH and RCA groups (p = .320), but RCA-CVVH was more effective in reducing ionized calcium at half of the time points (p < .05). RCA significantly prolonged the median filter lifespan (>72 h vs. 24.0 h [IQR, 15.0–26.0], p = .012). The incidence of filter failure was 55.8% (24/43) in the LMWH group and 21.4% (3/14) in the RCA group (p = .033). The adjusted results demonstrated that RCA could significantly reduce the risk of filter failure (p = .043, 95% CI 0.059–0.957, HR = 0.238). No citrate accumulation or bleeding episodes were observed in the RCA-CVVH group. Seven bleeding episodes (7/43, 16.3%) occurred in the LMWH-CVVH group. Conclusions In patients with severe hypercalcemia who underwent CVVH, RCA more effectively decreased calcium levels and had a superior filter lifespan and no obvious adverse events compared with LMWH. Further prospective, randomized, controlled studies are warranted to obtain robust evidence.

Abstract
In elderly patients presenting with confusion and recurrent falls, conditions including infection, acute stroke, acute coronary events and electrolyte abnormalities have to be strongly considered as diagnostic possibilities. ECG is a non-invasive test that often serves as a useful tool in suggesting the underlying electrolyte disturbance. However, ECG must be interpreted with caution as it can, at times, be misleading, as in this case of hypercalcaemia seen by us. We discuss the different ECG findings in hypercalcaemic situations.

Abstract
Hypercalcaemia is an emergency with severe consequences. Dehydration can be an uncommon cause of hypercalcaemia, as seen in this case. A 63-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism and osteoporosis, was admitted to the emergency room with abdominal distension and vomiting for 24 h. Initial evaluation was Hg 18.5 g/dL, Htc 56.2%, creatinine 2 mg/dL, metabolic acidaemia, lactate 8.3 mmol/L, anion gap 19, total Ca(2+) 17.7 mg/dL and PO4+ 6.6 mg/dL. CT revealed colonic distension without obstruction or ischaemia. Renal replacement therapy and pamidronate were initiated. The patient's clinical condition deteriorated with septic shock in the context of toxic megacolon and she underwent an emergency subtotal colectomy (10 kg). Hypercalcaemia was corrected in 24 h with aggressive fluid replacement (8 L NaCl 0.9% first 12 h), with a reduction of total Ca(2+) to 8.2 mg/dL. Other causes of hypercalcaemia were excluded. 'Hypercalcaemic crisis' secondary to severe acute dehydration is not mentioned in the literature.

Abstract
Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare form of endocrine malignancy accounting for only a small minority of cancer cases. Due to the rarity of this cancer, there are no generalized guidelines for its management; however, surgery remains to be the mainstay therapy. The purpose of this article is to review and summarize the available literature on parathyroid carcinoma, while discussing proposed staging systems and the role of available adjuvant therapies.

Abstract
The relationship of hyperparathyroid-associated hypercalcemia with clinical significant bradyarrythmias still remains controversial. We present a 66-year-old patient with dizziness, headache and paroxysmal 2:1 atrioventricular block. A 24-hour Holter report revealed symptomatic intermittent 2(nd) degree (2:1) atrioventricular block with a mean heart rate of 46 bpm. A 2D echocardiogramm showed normal ejection fraction and there was no valve dysfunction or calcification. The biochemistry results showed elevated serum calcium level, low phosphate level, elevated serum parathyroid hormone level and normal serum levels of potassium, magnesium and sodium. The urine calcium excretion was 390 mg/24 h. A coronary angiography was performed and revealed no critical lesions. The patient continued to have symptoms despite of the treatment of hypercalcemia and a DDDR pacemaker was implanted. He had a Sestamibi-scan of the neck, that was suggestive of parathyroid adenoma, and parathyroidectomy was performed. The presuming mechanism is the degeneration of AV node due to calcium deposit.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose was to determine the frequency and risk factors of ionized hypocalcemia and to evaluate this disturbance as a predictor of mortality in a pediatric intensive care unit (ICU). MATERIALS AND METHODS In a prospective cohort study, 337 children admitted consecutively to an ICU were monitored regarding serum ionized calcium concentrations during the first 10 days of admission. The following variables were analyzed as independent of hypocalcemia: age; malnutrition; sepsis; Pediatric Index of Mortality 2; first 3 days organ dysfunction score (Pediatric Logistic Organ Dysfunction); and use of steroids, furosemide, and anticonvulsants. Hypocalcemia was defined as a serum ionized calcium concentration less than 1.15 mmol/L. RESULTS The rate of hypocalcemia was 77.15%. In a multivariate model, higher Pediatric Logistic Organ Dysfunction scores during the first 3 days of ICU stay were independently associated with hypocalcemia (odds ratio, 2.24; 95% confidence interval, 1.23-4.07; P=.008). Medications associated with hypocalcemia were furosemide (dose≥2 mg/[kg d]) and methylprednisolone (dose≥2 mg/[kg d]). No significant association was found between hypocalcemia and 10-day mortality. CONCLUSIONS Ionized hypocalcemia is common during the ICU stay, particularly in the first 3 days of admission. This disturbance was not found to be a predictor of mortality, but it is independently associated with more severe organ dysfunction.

Abstract
Parathyroid carcinoma is one of the rarest known malignancies that may occur sporadically or as a part of a genetic syndrome. It accounts for approximately 1% of patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. The majority (90%) of parathyroid cancer tumors are hormonally functional and hypersecrete parathyroid hormone (PTH). Thus, most patients exhibit strong symptomatology of hypercalcemia at presentation. Sometimes, it can be difficult to diagnose parathyroid cancer preoperatively due to clinical features shared with benign causes of hyperparathyroidism. Imaging techniques such as neck ultrasound and 99mTc sestamibi scan can help localize disease, but they are not useful in the assessment of malignancy potential. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) prior to initial operation is not recommended due to technical difficulty in differentiating benign and malignant disease on cytology specimens and the possible associated risk of tumor seeding from the needle track. Complete surgical resection with microscopically negative margins is the recommended treatment and offers the best chance of cure. Persistent or recurrent disease occurs in more than 50% of patients with parathyroid carcinoma. Surgical resection is also the primary mode of therapy for recurrence since it can offer significant palliation for the metabolic derangement caused by hyperparathyroidism and allows hypercalcemia to become more medically manageable. However, reoperation is rarely curative and eventual relapse is likely. Chemotherapy and external beam radiation treatments have been generally ineffective in the treatment of parathyroid carcinoma. Typically, these patients require repeated operations that predispose them to accumulated surgical risks with each intervention. In inoperable cases, few palliative treatment options exist, although treatment with calcimimetics can effectively control hypercalcemia in some patients. Most patients ultimately succumb to complications of hypercalcemia rather than from tumor burden or infiltration.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Hypocalcaemia detrimentally affects the cardiovascular system and massive transfusion-related hypocalcaemia is particularly severe in end-stage liver disease patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT). This study, therefore, compared the severity and duration of ionized hypocalcaemia between patients with normal and impaired liver function. METHODS: Patients ( n = 26 per group) were transfused at a rate of 10 ml/kg within 10 min with packed red blood cells (PRBCs) during LT (group LP) or spinal surgery (group SP), or were infused with 0.9% normal saline during spinal surgery (group SN). Serum levels of ionized calcium were assessed before (T0), just after (T1), and at 20 (T2) and 60 min (T3) after transfusion. RESULTS: Transfusion with PRBCs caused more severe ionized hypocalcaemia than 0.9% normal saline at T1. In contrast to the faster (20 min) normalization in group SP, ionized hypocalcaemia in group LP persisted at T3. Serum ionized calcium levels at T3 showed correlations with vital signs, blood glucose, serum potassium, base deficit and lactate. CONCLUSION: Rapid blood transfusion caused more severe and prolonged ionized hypocalcaemia in patients with liver dysfunction than in those with normal liver function.

Abstract
Parathyroid hormone (PTH) nomograms combine total calcium and intact PTH (iPTH) measurements to classify disorders of calcium homeostasis. Our objective was to determine if using a combination of laboratory, demographic, and clinical parameters improves the accuracy of classification of these disorders. Chart data were collected for 236 patients with physician-ordered iPTH and total calcium tests. Classification was done using 3 approaches: (1) PTH nomogram plotting total calcium and iPTH results against known cases; (2) review of all available chart data ("gold standard"); and (3) multivariate model (classification and regression tree [CART] or logistic regression) using 24 variables. The CART model was developed using the gold standard patient classification and validated using leave-one-out cross-validation. The CART model was significantly (P = .002) more accurate (80.6%) than the PTH nomogram (59.7%) and logistic regression (66.2%) at classifying calcium homeostasis disorders. The CART model used 6 of 24 variables (iPTH, calcium, creatinine, renal transplantation, percentage of females, and urea nitrogen) and had a misclassification error rate of 0.194 (27/139). Classification of disorders of calcium homeostasis based on the PTH nomogram can be improved by using the CART model developed in this study.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study was performed to measure the total and ionic serum calcium levels and incidence of hypercalcemia in patients with Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) and its clinical significance and relevance. MATERIALS AND METHODS A randomly selected sample of seventy patients of histologically confirmed Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) at any of the standard clinical stages were included. Fasting blood samples were obtained for measuring serum calcium levels. The elevated values of serum calcium levels were correlated with clinical features of hypercalcemia to draw inference. RESULTS Total serum calcium was found to be elevated in 12 patients (17.4%) and serum ionic calcium was elevated in 3 patients (4.29%). CONCLUSION The data suggests that hypercalcemia occurred in advanced stages of oral squamous cell carcinoma and its management may be relevant in providing terminal care and prolonging the life span of the patients.

Abstract
Parathyroid carcinoma is exceptionally rare in children. Parathyroid carcinoma in the pediatric population most typically presents with significant hypercalcemia and a palpable neck mass. The authors report the seventh case of parathyroid carcinoma diagnosed in a child younger than 16 years. To our knowledge, this case is the first documented case, in the pediatric population, of parathyroid carcinoma in an ectopically located parathyroid gland with tumor invading the thymus.

Abstract
A thorough working knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening electrolyte abnormalities in cancer patients, especially hyponatremia, hypoglycemia, and hypercalcemia, is essential to the successful practice of emergency medicine. Although most minor abnormalities have no specific treatment, severe clinical manifestations of several notable electrolytes occur with significant frequency in the setting of malignancy. The treatment of life-threatening electrolyte abnormalities is reviewed here. Promising future treatments directed at the underlying physiology are also introduced.

Abstract
A complication is an event or occurrence that is associated with a disease or a healthcare intervention, is a departure from the desired course of events, and may cause, or be associated with, suboptimal outcome. A complication does not necessarily represent a breech in the standard of care that constitutes medical negligence or medical malpractice. An operative or procedural complication is any complication, regardless of cause, occurring (1) within 30 days after surgery or intervention in or out of the hospital, or (2) after 30 days during the same hospitalization subsequent to the operation or intervention. Operative and procedural complications include both intraoperative/intraprocedural complications and postoperative/postprocedural complications in this time interval. The MultiSocietal Database Committee for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease has set forth a comprehensive list of complications associated with the treatment of patients with congenital cardiac disease, related to cardiac, pulmonary, renal, haematological, infectious, neurological, gastrointestinal, and endocrinal systems, as well as those related to the management of anaesthesia and perfusion, and the transplantation of thoracic organs. The objective of this manuscript is to examine the definitions of operative morbidity as they relate specifically to the endocrine system. These specific definitions and terms will be used to track morbidity associated with surgical and transcatheter interventions and other forms of therapy in a common language across many separate databases. As surgical survival in children with congenital cardiac disease has improved in recent years, focus has necessarily shifted to reducing the morbidity of congenital cardiac malformations and their treatment. A comprehensive list of endocrinal complications is presented. This list is a component of a systems-based compendium of complications that will standardize terminology and thereby allow the study and quantification of morbidity in patients with congenital cardiac malformations. Clinicians caring for patients with congenital cardiac disease will be able to use this list for databases, initiatives to improve quality, reporting of complications, and comparing strategies of treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Beside the often discussed topics of consumption and dilution coagulopathy, additional perioperative impairments of coagulation are caused by acidosis, hypocalcemia, anemia, hypothermia, and combinations. METHODS Reviewing current literature, cutoff values of these parameters become obvious at which therapy should commence. RESULTS A notable impairment of hemostasis arises at a pH < or = 7.1. Similar effects are caused by a BE of -12.5 or less. Thus, in case of severe bleeding, buffering toward physiologic pH values is recommended, especially with massive transfusions of older RBCCs displaying exhausted red blood cell buffer systems. It completes the optimization of the volume homeostasis to ensure an adequate tissue perfusion. Combining beneficial cardiovascular and coagulation effects, the level for ionized calcium concentration should be held > or = 0.9 mmol/L. From the hemostatic point of view, the optimal Hct is higher than the one required for oxygenation. Even without a "classical" transfusion trigger, the therapy of acute, persistent bleeding should aim at reaching an Hct > or = 30%. A core temperature of < or = 34 degrees C causes a decisive impairment of hemostasis. A controlled hypotensive fluid resuscitation should aim at reaching a mean arterial pressure of > or = 65 mm Hg (possibly higher for cerebral trauma). Prevention and later aggressive therapy of hypothermia by exclusive infusion of warmed fluids and the use of warming devices are prerequisites for the cure of traumatic coagulopathy. Combined appearance of single preconditions cause additive impairments of the coagulation system. CONCLUSIONS The prevention and timely correction, especially of the combination acidosis plus hypothermia, is crucial for the treatment of hemorrhagic coagulopathy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies suggest that high-dose MgSO4 therapy is safe and reduces the incidence of DIND and subsequent poor outcome after SAH. We intended to assess the safety and efficacy of high-dose MgSO4 therapy after SAH as means to prevent DIND and to evaluate the impact on clinical outcome. METHODS This was a prospective, randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled study. The MgSO4 infusion was adjusted every 12 hours until day 12 according to the target serum Mg2+ level. The occurrence of DIND, secondary infarction, side effects, and the outcome after 3 and 12 months were assessed. RESULTS Fifty-eight patients were randomized; 27 received placebo and 31 MgSO4. The difference in occurrence of DIND and secondary infarction was not significant. The intention-to-treat analysis revealed a trend toward better outcome (P = .083) after 3 months. On-treatment analysis showed a significantly better outcome after 3 months (P = .017) and a trend toward better outcome after 1 year (P = .083). Significantly more often hypotension (P = .040) and hypocalcemia (P = .005) occurred as side effects in the treatment group. In 16 patients (52%), the MgSO4 therapy had to be stopped before day 12 because of side effects. No predictive factor leading to termination was found in a postrandomization analysis. CONCLUSIONS High-dose MgSO4 therapy might be efficient as a prophylactic adjacent therapy after SAH to reduce the risk for poor outcome. Nevertheless, because of the high frequency of the side effects, patients should be observed in an intensive or intermediate care setting.

Abstract
A coagulopathy is an independent predictor of perioperative mortality. Therefore, maintenance of a functional coagulation system is an essential precondition to reduce morbidity and mortality in the perioperative setting. Sound coagulability also depends on prerequisites such as body temperature, acid-base balance, plasma calcium concentration and haematocrit. Severe trauma or perioperative bleeding can gravely influence these factors and boost the blood loss. Common global tests of coagulation are not helpful in this setting because they are conducted on plasma with a normalised temperature of 37 degrees C, an excess of calcium and a stabile acid-base balance. Hence, knowledge of the effects of altered prerequisites is a premise to avoid a possibly lethal coagulopathy. According to the current literature, an increased risk for clinically significant coagulopathy exists with a body temperature <or=34 degrees C, an acidosis <or=7.15, ionised calcium under 0.9 mmol/l or a haematocrit under 30-35%. A combination of these factors deteriorates the coagulopathy and hypothermia in addition to acidosis is especially harmful. Prevention of derangement of these factors should start as early as possible, i.e. in trauma patients at the scene of the accident and should be continued in the operating room.

Abstract
Perioperative management of patients with cardiac pacemakers may be challenging because of the increasing sophistication of these devices. We report a case of a patient with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) and with a permanent AAIR (bipolar atrial-inhibited adaptive rate) pacemaker who suffered life-threatening episodes of arrhythmias during operation. The first episode was vagally induced PAF during bowel manipulation; the second, induced by the increased pacing threshold from the external electric cardioversion and hyperkalemia. Transcutaneous pacing provided cardiac pacing and stabilized the patient during the second episode. Thorough preoperative evaluation and prophylactic placement of temporary pacing or at least transcutaneous pacing are important for the avoidance and minimization of intraoperative complications in patients with sick sinus syndrome and with an AAI (atrial inhibited) pacemaker.

Abstract
Parathyroid cancer is a rare endocrine tumor and an uncommon cause of HPT. Advances have been made to identify a promising molecular diagnostic marker for the disease. The use of accurate preoperative imaging modalities would undoubtedly facilitate its management by making an accurate preoperative diagnosis by assessing its invasiveness, and by searching for nodal or distant metastases. The effectiveness of the application of intraoperative PTH assay in the management of this rare condition remains to be seen. Radical surgical treatment offers the best chance of cure, but for patients who have refractory unresectable disease or metastases, the availability of more effective targeted medical therapy may palliate the debilitating symptoms of hypercalcemia, reduce its metabolic complications, and potentially improve survival.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The clinical syndrome produced by excess parathyroid hormone (PTH) is referred to as hyperparathyroidism (HPT). Autonomous growth of PTH producing cells is defined as primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT). In its classic form pHPT is characterized by painful bones, kidney stones, abdominal groans, psychic moans, fatigue overtones and hypercalcemia. Chronic stimulation of the parathyroid glands secondary to low circulating calcium level results in secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT). Tertiary hyperparathyroidism (tHPT) results from prolonged secondary hyperparathyroidism when the glands take on an autonomous function manifested by hypercalcemia and high PTH levels despite resolution of the original stimulus. REVIEW The paper reviews the physiologic regulation of PTH secretion and types and forms of HPT. Calcium homeostasis is discussed, emphasizing interactions of PTH, PO4 and vitamin D that can lead to HPT. In addition, the paper reviews the contribution of serum calcium, chloride, phosphorus and PTH levels to the diagnosis of HPT, the role of urinary calcium in the diagnosis of familial benign hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (FBHH), and the role of alkaline phosphatase and bone mass measurements as markers of severity of hyperparathyroid bone disease. CONCLUSIONS It is concluded that the diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism can be made with a very high confidence rate by documenting an increased serum PTH level with an increased ionized or total calcium level in pHPT, increased serum PTH level with low or normal calcium level and an underlying renal failure or vitamin D deficiency in sHPT. Early management of HPT is important because many of the nonspecific complains, or classic symptoms, or metabolic conditions often improve after proper control of hyperparathyroidism.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To review the four sets of symptom clusters commonly seen in patients with advanced illness, and their definitions, associated symptomatology, and management. DATA SOURCES Research and review articles and textbooks. CONCLUSION Symptoms of patients with advanced illness tend to occur not isolation, but in symptom clusters. The ability to cluster symptoms in both assessment and management reduces the use of polypharmacy, systemic toxicities, and improves the patient's quality of life. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE It is important that the nurse providing symptom management for the oncology patient understand the importance of clustering certain symptoms together.
