Abstract
PURPOSE Systematic reviews evaluating and comparing the measurement properties of outcome measurement instruments (OMIs) play an important role in OMI selection. Earlier overviews of review quality (2007, 2014) evidenced substantial concerns with regards to alignment to scientific standards. This overview aimed to investigate whether the quality of recent systematic reviews of OMIs lives up to the current scientific standards. METHODS One hundred systematic reviews of OMIs published from June 1, 2021 onwards were randomly selected through a systematic literature search performed on March 17, 2022 in MEDLINE and EMBASE. The quality of systematic reviews was appraised by two independent reviewers. An updated data extraction form was informed by the earlier studies, and results were compared to these earlier studies' findings. RESULTS A quarter of the reviews had an unclear research question or aim, and in 22% of the reviews the search strategy did not match the aim. Half of the reviews had an incomprehensive search strategy, because relevant search terms were not included. In 63% of the reviews (compared to 41% in 2014 and 30% in 2007) a risk of bias assessment was conducted. In 73% of the reviews (some) measurement properties were evaluated (58% in 2014 and 55% in 2007). In 60% of the reviews the data were (partly) synthesized (42% in 2014 and 7% in 2007); evaluation of measurement properties and data syntheses was not conducted separately for subscales in the majority. Certainty assessments of the quality of the total body of evidence were conducted in only 33% of reviews (not assessed in 2014 and 2007). The majority (58%) did not make any recommendations on which OMI (not) to use. CONCLUSION Despite clear improvements in risk of bias assessments, measurement property evaluation and data synthesis, specifying the research question, conducting the search strategy and performing a certainty assessment remain poor. To ensure that systematic reviews of OMIs meet current scientific standards, more consistent conduct and reporting of systematic reviews of OMIs is needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Limited knowledge exists on current use of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) and performance measures for adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), as well as health care professionals' (HCPs) perceived barriers and facilitators towards their use. This study's objectives were: 1) to explore current practice of HCPs when assessing outcomes for AIS 2) to understand perceived barriers and facilitators of HCPs to use PROMs 3) to understand perceived barriers and facilitators of HCPs to use performance measures. METHODS A qualitative study recruited a purposive sample of HCPs from a tertiary hospital in the United Kingdom. Mean years of experience managing individuals with AIS was 11.8 years; and included surgeons, physiotherapists and nurses, educated at Bachelor, Masters and Doctoral level. Consent to participate and demographic information were collected in advance of the interviews. In-depth, virtual semi-structured interviews were informed by a topic guide based on current evidence. Interviews of approximately 45 minutes were audio and video recorded and transcribed verbatim alongside written field notes. Data were coded and analysed using inductive thematic analysis, involving researchers with topic and methodological expertise and input from a patient representative. RESULTS Two themes emerged regarding current practice of using PROMs routine practice and personal evaluations. Four themes emerged as barriers to using PROMs for individuals with AIS: priority and support (e.g., HCPs focus on providing care), practical challenges (e.g., inadequate PROMs), patient-related challenges (e.g., patient preferences) and knowledge, education, and perceived value. Two themes emerged as facilitators: quality existing measure (e.g., sufficient psychometric properties), and priority and support (e.g., research department/culture). Themes for barriers to use performance measures were practicality (e.g., need physical space) and perceived value and knowledge (e.g., PROMs are more important), while the one theme for facilitators was practical consideration (e.g., acceptability). CONCLUSIONS Although HCPs perceived the value of using outcome measures, current practice indicates limited use for individuals with AIS. The findings revealed different barriers and facilitators to implement PROMs in practice. Adopting performance measure are limited due to lack of knowledge and perceived value alongside the practicality, while considering practical factors can improve the use of these measures in practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In sub-Saharan Africa, the estimated prevalence of scoliosis ranges from 3.3% to 5.5%. The management of these deformities is restricted due to lack of infrastructure and access to deformity spine surgeons. Utilizing surgical camps has been demonstrated to be efficient in transferring skills to low-resource environments; however, this has not been documented concerning deformity surgery. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study. The scoliosis camp was held at a major referral spine center in East Africa. We documented information about the organization of the course. We also collected clinical and demographic patient data. Finally, we assessed the knowledge and confidence among surgeon participants on the management scoliosis. RESULTS The camp lasted 5 days and consisted of lectures and case discussions, followed by casting and surgical sessions. Five patients were operated during the camp. All the patients in the study were diagnosed with AIS, except one with a congenital deformity. The primary curve in the spine was in the thoracic region for all patients. Six months postoperative Scoliosis Research Society-22R Scoring System (SRS-22R) score ranged from 3.3-4.5/5. 87.5% of the participants found the course content satisfactory. CONCLUSIONS To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time an African scoliosis camp has been established. The study highlights the difficulty of conducting such a course and illustrates the feasibility of executing these complex surgeries in a resource-limited environment.

Abstract
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) can be treated with bracing or surgery, which may affect patient's physical activity (PA). However, there are limited objective assessments of PA in patients with AIS. This study aims to compare the outcome of spinal bracing vs. surgery in patients with AIS based on a device that measured daily PA. In total 24 patients with AIS participated, including 12 patients treated with bracing and 12 with spinal surgery. Daily PA was measured throughout 4 consecutive days using four tri-axial accelerometers and patient-reported functional status was reported using the SRS-22 questionnaire. The participants were assessed both before the treatment and after treatment at a 12-month follow-up. Patients with AIS had no significant change in their PA levels at the 12-month follow-up after surgical correction. On the contrary, patients with AIS following a year-long bracing treatment had significantly reduced time spent active ( P = 0.04) with an average reduction in walking steps by 2137 steps/day ( P = 0.005). There was no significant difference in function, pain, self-image and mental health domains following both treatments, as reported by the SRS-22. There was a significant improvement in satisfaction for both treatment groups ( P ≤ 0.02). Significantly reduced PA and increased sedentary time are reported in patients with AIS following bracing treatment. An objective PA assessment is recommended to track the effect of scoliosis treatment on PA. Patients with AIS should be actively encouraged to achieve and maintain their recommended daily PA levels irrespective of the type of treatment. Level of evidence: Level II.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Psychosocial interventions can improve teenagers' self-esteem, mental health and bracing compliance. There is a need to compile available evidence of psychosocial care in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. This systematic review aimed to identify and evaluate the effects of existing interventional studies of psychosocial care for the adolescent idiopathic scoliosis population. METHODS A comprehensive search of relevant literature published from the inception to March 2023 was conducted using nine databases. A google scholar search was performed on 1 July 2023, to update the searching results. Two reviewers independently assessed the methodological quality and extracted details of the included studies. Given the heterogeneity of the selected articles, the findings were synthesized narratively without conducting a meta-analysis. RESULTS Four randomized controlled trials reported in six articles involving 385 teenagers were included. The interventions appeared acceptable with high recruitment rates and low dropout rates reported. Psychosocial interventions had shown significant positive effects on postoperative pain, engagement in daily and social activities as well as brace use, coping abilities and anxiety. CONCLUSION Psychosocial interventions are generally feasible and acceptable among the adolescent idiopathic scoliosis population and have produced positive effects on a variety of physical and psychosocial outcomes. Study findings need to be interpreted with caution due to the limited number of available articles and the methodological concerns of the reviewed articles. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS Well-designed clinical trials are warranted in people from cultural backgrounds to develop and implement effective psychosocial interventions for teenagers with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, not only for those at the post-surgery stage but also for those receiving conservative treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The posture control deficit is one important dysfunction in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients, which is related to the development of the disease. However, it is not apparent whether AIS could affect static sitting posture control in late adolescence. OBJECTIVE This study aims to compare static sitting posture control in idiopathic scoliosis freshmen with normal peers to reveal possible differences in posture stability between them during writing tasks. METHODS In total, there were 10 AIS patients and 11 normal college students chosen for the writing task test. Data on the distribution of gluteal pressure during sitting were gathered. The comparison between these two groups was made using the independent sample t-test. RESULTS The total excursion (TE) of the center of pressure (COP) of the AIS group considerably increased in comparison with the control group (CON) (p = 0.029). The AIS group's average COP velocity in the anteroposterior (AP) direction was significantly higher than the CON group (p = 0.048). The peak gluteal pressure on the right side was significantly higher in the AIS group than in the CON group (p = 0.039). The right gluteal contact area dynamic variation was significantly higher in the AIS group compared to the CON group (p = 0.025). CONCLUSIONS AIS patients showed increased gluteal pressure and lower sitting posture stability during writing tasks.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of the Milwaukee brace and thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO) on head to pelvis sagittal alignment in adolescents with Scheuermann's kyphosis (SK). A total of 52 adolescents with SK who were under brace treatment were studied. They underwent biplanar radiography of the head to pelvis (EOS Imaging, Paris, France) before and 6 months after the beginning of bracing. We measured T1 slope, neck tilt (NT), cervical sagittal vertical axis (cSVA), thoracic inlet angle (TIA), C0-C2 lordosis, C2-C7 lordosis, thoracic kyphosis (TK), lumbar lordosis (LL), pelvic incidence (PI), pelvic tilt (PT), sacral slope (SS), sagittal vertical axis (SVA) and T1 spinopelvic inclination (T1SPi). There were no significant differences in baseline values of TIA, PT, SS, PI, SVA, TK, cSVA, NT and T1 slope between the two groups (p > 0.05). There were significant differences between the baseline and final measurements of T1 slope, cSVA, TK, LL, T1SPi and TIA in both groups (p < 0.05). The results imply that brace treatment can significantly affect head to pelvis sagittal parameters of adolescents with SK. However, there are no significant differences in the values of head to pelvis sagittal parameters when comparing short-term effect of TLSO and the Milwaukee brace.

INTRODUCTION Content validity is the most important measurement property for any patient-reported outcome measure (PROM). It being the extent that the PROM measures important concepts that are relevant to the population of interest. Adolescent with idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the most common spinal deformity in paediatric populations, with the Scoliosis Research Society questionnaire-22 revised (SRS-22r) a commonly used PROMof quality of life. In the absence of existing evidence, a content validity study for SRS-22r is needed to confirm its suitability for AIS. Thus, this study aims to investigate the content validity of SRS-22r for AIS. A secondary aim is to explore healthcare professional (HCP) perspectives of the barriers and facilitators to using outcome measures in AIS. METHODS AND ANALYSIS Qualitative study reported according to COnsolidated criteria for Reporting Qualitative Studies. A purposive sample of AIS (n=10-15, Cobb angle >25°, aged 10-18 years) will be recruited for online semi-structured interviews. A convenience sample (n=10-12) of HCP with clinical and/or research experience in AIS will be recruited for a focus group discussion. Topic guides and age-relevant documents are informed by existing evidence and developed using a framework of concept elicitation and cognitive debriefing. Audio-recordings will be transcribed verbatim, coded, analysed and synthesised using interpretive phenomenology analysis. Themes that generated from the analysis will be used as codes that will then be mapped to the SRS-22r contents. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The Health Research Authority and Health and Care Research Wales approval have been granted (IRAS 289888). Study findings will be disseminated through publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations.
