Abstract
Basal cell carcinosarcoma (BCCS) is a rare malignant biphasic tumor of the skin, composed of epithelial and mesenchymal components, and may be underdiagnosed. We sought to summarize the current understanding of BCCS including its reported history, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment. We also reappraise and present our recommendations of histological interpretation for its diagnosis and treatment. A systematic review of PubMed and EMBASE, from inception of databases to December 1, 2022, identified all reported cases of basal cell carcinosarcoma. A total of 34 reports containing 54 patients with basal cell carcinosarcoma were included. The neoplasm was most commonly associated in areas of sun-exposed skin and primarily affected the elderly. Diagnosis was made on histology specimens using H&E. To address underdiagnosis, additional immunohistochemical markers have been proposed due to unreliable phenotypic appearance in this poorly differentiated neoplasm. Treatment consists of excision of the tumor, typically with Mohs surgery, and is curative in most cases. There are limited treatment options for metastatic disease. There were limitations to this study as various immunohistochemical stains used on suspected BCCS without providing an explanation as to why certain markers were included and others were excluded. Continued efforts in characterizing this complex neoplasm are critical in establishing reliable and accurate diagnostic tests and accompanying treatment options, especially in cases of metastatic disease.

Abstract
p53, p63, and p73, the members of the p53 family of proteins, are structurally similar proteins that play central roles regulating cell cycle and apoptotic cell death. Alternative splicing at the carboxyl terminus and the utilization of different promoters further categorizes these proteins as having different isoforms for each. Among such isoforms, TA and ΔN versions of each protein serve as the pro and the anti-apoptotic proteins, respectively. Changes in the expression patterns of these isoforms are noted in many human cancers. Proteins of certain human herpesviruses, like Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), interact with p53 family members and alter their expressions in many malignancies. Upon infections in the B cells and epithelial cells, EBV expresses different lytic or latent proteins during viral replication and latency respectively to preserve viral copy number, chromosomal integrity and viral persistence inside the host. In this review, we have surveyed and summarised the interactions of EBV gene products, known so far, with the p53 family proteins. The interactions between P53 and EBV oncoproteins are observed in stomach cancer, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) of the head and neck, Nasopharyngeal Cancer (NPC), Gastric carcinoma (GC) and Burkitt's lymphoma (BL). EBV latent protein EBNA1, EBNA3C, LMP-1, and lytic proteins BZLF-1 can alter p53 expressions in many cancer cell lines. Interactions of p63 with EBNA-1, 2, 5, LMP-2A and BARF-1 have also been investigated in several cancers. Similarly, associations of p73 isoform with EBV latent proteins EBNA3C and LMP-1 have been reported. Methylation and single nucleotide polymorphisms in p53 have also been found to be correlated with EBV infection. Therefore, interactions and altered expression strategies of the isoforms of p53 family proteins in EBV associated cancers propose an important field for further molecular research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cutaneous carcinosarcoma is a rare biphasic tumor comprising malignant epithelial and heterologous mesenchymal elements. Data on the clinical and histopathologic characteristics of this tumor in Asian populations are not available. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical features of cutaneous carcinosarcoma in the Korean population. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the records of 11 patients with cutaneous carcinosarcoma who were diagnosed from 2006 to 2016. RESULTS The mean patient age at diagnosis was 71.5 years (range, 43-96 years) and there was a men predilection. The most common site of cutaneous carcinosarcoma was the head and neck (8/11, 72.7%). Histopathologically, most tumors showed a characteristic morphology consisting of two types of tumor cells, varied differentiated epithelial cells (such as basal or squamous cells) and spindle cells with transition zones between the two components. These two cell types also demonstrated variable immunohistochemical characteristics. CONCLUSION Although the number of cases in this study was limited, our results provide valuable insight into the clinical and histopathologic characteristics of cutaneous carcinosarcoma in the Korean population.

Abstract
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common form of nonmelanoma skin cancer after basal cell carcinoma and accounts for the majority of nonmelanoma skin cancer-related deaths. In 2017, the American Joint Committee on Cancer revised the staging guidelines of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma to reflect recent evidence concerning high-risk clinicopathologic features. This update reviews the literature on prognostic features and staging, including the eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer Staging Manual. A wide range of histopathologic variants of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma exists, several of which are associated with aggressive behavior. A review of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma variants, emphasizing diagnostic pitfalls, immuhistochemical findings and prognostic significance, is included. Of note, the eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer Staging Manual refers to squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck only.

Abstract
Sarcomatoid carcinoma is a biphasic neoplasm composed of highly complex, intimately admixed malignant epithelial and mesenchymal elements. We herein report a rare case of cutaneous metastasis of pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma that contains liposarcomatous, rhabdosarcomatous and chondrosarcomatous heterologous differentiation, and review relevant literatures to lead to a better understanding of this rare but highly aggressive tumor.

Abstract
Sarcomatoid eccrine porocarcinoma (SEP) is a very rare malignancy including epithelial and mesenchymal components exhibiting pleomorphic cells, nuclear hyperchromasia, and high mitotic activity in both elements. To date, only 6 cases of this uncommon neoplasm have been reported, corresponding to women over 70 years of age with ulcerated skin lesions. The authors describe the first sarcomatoid eccrine porocarcinoma in a 75-year-old male patient with a right hallux lesion, presenting a collision tumor with a mixed population of epithelial cells and a spindle cell angiosarcomatous mesenchymal component each expressing distinct and nonoverlapping morphologic and immunohistochemical features of epithelial and mesenchymal differentiation.

Abstract
p53 is an important tumor suppressor gene, which is stimulated by cellular stress like ionizing radiation, hypoxia, carcinogens, and oxidative stress. Upon activation, p53 leads to cell-cycle arrest and promotes DNA repair or induces apoptosis via several pathways. p63 and p73 are structural homologs of p53 that can act similarly to the protein and also hold functions distinct from p53. Today more than 40 different isoforms of the p53 family members are known. They result from transcription via different promoters and alternative splicing. Some isoforms have carcinogenic properties and mediate resistance to chemotherapy. Therefore, expression patterns of the p53 family genes can offer prognostic information in several malignant tumors. Furthermore, the p53 family constitutes a potential target for cancer therapy. Small molecules (e.g., Nutlins, RITA, PRIMA-1, and MIRA-1 among others) have been objects of intense research interest in recent years. They restore pro-apoptotic wild-type p53 function and were shown to break chemotherapeutic resistance. Due to p53 family interactions small molecules also influence p63 and p73 activity. Thus, the members of the p53 family are key players in the cellular stress response in cancer and are expected to grow in importance as therapeutic targets.

Abstract
A 91-year-old man presented with an ulcerated nodule on his left lower eyelid. The tumor showed an epithelial component composed of basaloid and clear cells and a stroma that contained many osteoclastic giant cells. Strong, diffuse expression for cytokeratin 17 and p63 was noted in the epithelial component, whereas no staining was present in the sarcomatoid stroma, suggesting that the osteoclast-rich stromal component represented an unusual benign stromal reaction to the carcinoma rather than a manifestation of carcinosarcoma. Further supporting this interpretation was the absence of mitotic figures and low Ki-67 proliferation index (of approximately 1%) in the stromal cells. We herein reported a case of unusual infiltrative basal cell carcinoma, accompanied by a clear cell carcinomatous features and concurrent benign osteoclastic stromal changes.

Abstract
Primary cutaneous carcinosarcoma is a rare biphenotypic neoplasm exhibiting both epithelial and sarcomatous elements. Even though its origin and biological aspects remain poorly understood, it has been postulated that this tumor may arise from progenitor cells, which subsequently differentiate into distinct tumor components. We have investigated the histological and immunohistochemical staining patterns of a cutaneous carcinosarcoma case, as well as its ultrastructural aspects. In addition, sarcomatous and epithelial tumor components were separated by laser capture microdissection and subjected to targeted, high-depth, next-generation sequencing of a 46-cancer gene panel to asses the gene mutational pattern amongst both components. There were transitional cells at the epithelial/mesenchymal transition that labeled with putative progenitor cell markers (K19, c-kit, CD34 and Bcl-2). There was shared reactivity to antibodies directed against the progenitor cell marker EpCAM (epithelial cell adhesion molecule) in both components. Ultrastructurally, individual cells were demonstrated to have overlapping features of epithelial and mesenchymal differentiation. The mutational analysis revealed point mutations in exon 5 of TP53, which were identical in both the epithelial and sarcomatous components, and which were concordant with p53 expression at a tissue level. The aforementioned histological, ultrastructural, immunohistochemical and mutational pattern is strongly suggestive of a common clonal origin to the distinct elements of this tumor.

Abstract
Epidemiological data indicate that intake of estrogens and isoflavones may be beneficial for the prevention of colorectal cancer (CRC). Based on this data, the aim of the study was to investigate estrogen receptor (ER) subtype-specific effects on intestinal homeostasis. Ovariectomized (OVX) female Wistar rats were either treated with 17β-estradiol (4 μg/kg body wt/day) (E2), an ERα-specific agonist (ALPHA) (10 μg/kg body wt/day), an ERβ-specific agonist (BETA) (100 μg/kg body wt/day) or genistein (GEN) (10 mg/kg body wt/day) for three weeks. Vehicle-treated OVX and SHAM animals and those cotreated with BETA and the pure antiestrogen Fulvestrant (ICI 182780) (100 μg/kg body wt/day and 3 mg/kg body wt/day) served as controls. GEN and BETA treatment but not E2 and ALPHA administration reduced proliferation in ileal and colonic mucosa cells. The rate of apoptosis in the small intestine and colon was increased by treatment with BETA and GEN, but not by E2. BETA induced antiproliferative and proapoptotic activity also in SHAM animals. The effects were antagonized by the pure antiestrogen Fulvestrant. Polymerase chain reaction gene array analysis revealed that BETA resulted in the downregulation of the oncogene transformation-related protein 63 (p63). Our data indicate that activation of the ERβ by specific ERβ agonists and GEN induces antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects in the intestinal tract. This observation can be taken as an indication that intake of GEN and specific ERβ agonists may protect the ileal and colonic epithelium from tumor development via modulation of tissue homeostasis.
