Abstract
INTRODUCTION Facial aging has long been an area of focus in esthetic surgery. It is the consequence of physiologic and environmental factors, with a trend toward non-surgical modalities. Although volume augmentation has long been a focus of non-surgical facial rejuvenation, there is emerging interest in the use of biostimulators to induce physiologic changes in the skin. This article aimed to provide an overview of this class of therapies. METHODS A systematic review regarding the clinical use of biostimulatory agents including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) in facial rejuvenation was performed using PubMed databases. The protocol was developed following the preferred reporting for items for systematic reviews-protocols guidelines. Included studies matched predetermined criteria according to the employed intervention and outcomes. RESULTS The systematic review was performed in September 2023, with the primary search yielding 464 articles. Abstract review resulted in 73 articles of potential relevance. Comprehensive review of the articles and manual reference checks were performed, independently, by 2 authors. This yielded a total of 45 articles that met the inclusion criteria. CONCLUSIONS There is an increasing role for non-surgical modalities in facial rejuvenation. Biostimulatory agents may be used as an alternative, or act as an adjunct, to other non-surgical modalities. These agents induce physiologic changes that mitigate facial aging. There is limited, quantifiable data, which fully illustrate the effect in these products. Although these agents are known to illicit inflammatory changes, more controlled studies are needed to better elucidate the biostimulatory capacity of such non-surgical treatments.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is recognized as a safe and effective therapy for regenerative skin healing and rejuvenation, utilizing autologous blood enriched with various growth factors. This review aims to assess the efficacy of PRP treatments for skin rejuvenation. METHODS Keywords such as "platelet-rich plasma," "rejuvenation," "skin aging," and "wrinkles" were queried on Ovid, PubMed, and MEDLINE to identify pertinent studies on PRP treatment for skin rejuvenation. RESULTS Analysis revealed that PRP treatment led to significant enhancements in multiple facial parameters after one to three sessions. Improvements were noted in skin pore size, texture, wrinkle reduction, pigmented spots, collagen density, hyaluronic acid levels, and protection against ultraviolet damage. Combining PRP with hyaluronic acid demonstrated a synergistic effect, particularly enhancing skin elasticity in patients with lower body mass index and firmness in individuals aged 50s and 60s. Incorporating both physical and biometric data for assessment proved superior to relying solely on physical observations for evaluating subtle skin quality and structural changes. CONCLUSION This study underscores the efficacy of PRP monotherapy for skin rejuvenation and emphasizes the necessity of standardizing PRP preparation protocols in future investigations. Heightened awareness and advancements in technology have contributed to the emergence of higher-quality, less biased studies supporting PRP as a reliable and safe therapeutic option for skin rejuvenation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The concept of "skin boosters" has evolved, marking a shift from traditional uses of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers primarily for augmenting skin volume to a more diverse application aimed at improving dermal conditions. Restylane Vital and other HA fillers have been repurposed to combat skin aging and wrinkles by delivering HA directly to the dermis. OBJECTIVES This review aims to define the term "skin booster" and to discuss the various components that constitute skin boosters. It seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of the different ingredients used in skin boosters, their roles, and their impact on enhancing dermal conditions. METHODS A comprehensive review was conducted, focusing on representative skin booster ingredients. The approach involved analyzing the different elements used in skin boosters and their specific roles in enhancing dermal improvement. RESULTS The findings indicate that skin boosters, encompassing a range of ingredients, are effective in improving the condition of the skin's dermis. The review identifies key ingredients in skin boosters and their specific benefits, including hydration, elasticity improvement, and wrinkle reduction. CONCLUSIONS Skin boosters represent a significant development in dermatological treatments, offering diverse benefits beyond traditional HA fillers. This review provides valuable insights into the constituents of skin boosters and their effectiveness, aiding readers in making informed decisions about these treatments. The potential of skin boosters in dermatological practice is considerable, warranting further research and application.

Abstract
The skin's recognised functions may undergo physiological alterations due to ageing, manifesting as varying degrees of facial wrinkles, diminished tautness, density, and volume. Additionally, these functions can be disrupted (patho)physiologically through various physical and chemical injuries, including surgical trauma, accidents, or chronic conditions like ulcers associated with diabetes mellitus, venous insufficiency, or obesity. Advancements in therapeutic interventions that boost the skin's innate regenerative abilities could significantly enhance patient care protocols. The application of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is widely recognized for its aesthetic and functional benefits to the skin. Yet, the endorsement of PRP's advantages often borders on the dogmatic, with its efficacy commonly ascribed solely to the activation of fibroblasts by the factors contained within platelet granules. PRP therapy is a cornerstone of regenerative medicine which involves the autologous delivery of conditioned plasma enriched by platelets. This is achieved by centrifugation, removing erythrocytes while retaining platelets and their granules. Despite its widespread use, the precise sequences of cellular activation, the specific cellular players, and the molecular machinery that drive PRP-facilitated healing are still enigmatic. There is still a paucity of definitive and robust studies elucidating these mechanisms. In recent years, telocytes (TCs)-a unique dermal cell population-have shown promising potential for tissue regeneration in various organs, including the dermis. TCs' participation in neo-angiogenesis, akin to that attributed to PRP, and their role in tissue remodelling and repair processes within the interstitia of several organs (including the dermis), offer intriguing insights. Their potential to contribute to, or possibly orchestrate, the skin regeneration process following PRP treatment has elicited considerable interest. Therefore, pursuing a comprehensive understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms at work, particularly those involving TCs, their temporal involvement in structural recovery following injury, and the interconnected biological events in skin wound healing and regeneration represents a compelling field of study.

Abstract
Facial aging is characterized by progressive macroscopic, histological, and molecular changes. Due to its regenerative and rejuvenating properties, the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a facial antiaging agent has gained popularity over the last decade. In order to gather and evaluate the latest evidence focusing on the effect of PRP on facial skin rejuvenating, a search through MEDLINE (PubMed) using relevant keywords, inclusion, and exclusion criteria was performed. A total of 539 articles were initially retrieved, and from those, 16 were included in the review. Treatment protocols comprised the use of PRP both in monotherapy and in combination with other substances and by means of direct injection or topical application following skin permeation. The selected studies presented high variability regarding PRP preparation methods, administration protocols, and results assessment. In most studies, PRP seemed to improve to some degree the signs of facial aging, such has wrinkles, skin quality, and pigmentation, accompanied by significant histological and molecular responses. Optimizing treatment protocols should be the next step in assessing the full potential of PRP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, minimally invasive and non-invasive rejuvenation methods have been welcomed. PRP has been used widely for skin rejuvenation, but there are few studies on PRP for lip rejuvenation. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to investigate the preliminary effects of PRP for lip rejuvenation. METHODS Between October 2018 and April 2023, 15 participants with lip aging (1 male, 14 females; range 27-58 years) were treated with PRP. The follow-up time was 3 to 24months. After 3 to 6 times treatments, beauty seekers and experienced physicians jointly evaluated effectiveness of treatment. The assessment included improvements in the colour, wrinkles, and skin texture of the lips before and after treatment. RESULTS According to the beauty seekers and Surgeons 'evaluation, the aging characteristics of the lips of the 15 beauty seekers have been improved to varying degrees. The most obvious improvement was that the color of the lips which became more vivid. There was no swelling, bruising, scar hyperplasia and other complications. A participant was evaluated using the VISIA skin detector. The patient's lip color and discoloration improved after treatment. Of the 15 participants treated. 3 participants experienced mild pain or discomfort during the injection process. There was no swelling, bruising, scar hyperplasia and other complications. CONCLUSION The results of this study revealed promising evidence of PRP as an effective option on lip rejuvenation. However, large, multi-center, controlled, long term, pilot studies are required to confirm the preliminary results of our study.

Abstract
Options for nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatment have increased significantly in both availability and popularity over the past two decades. However, there remains a paucity of clinical practice guidelines and evidence-based recommendations for these procedures. The purpose of this article is to assess the presence of current high-level research for various methods of nonsurgical facial rejuvenation using the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine. Botulinum toxin injections remain the best-studied method, with several randomized controlled trials guiding recommendations for safety and efficacy. Several studies on injectable fillers document complications and recommendations to avoid these, but sample sizes are small and many are noncomparative. Deoxycholic acid has been well examined and Food and Drug Administration approved to address submental fat but has not been studied in other areas of the face. Although chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, energy-based facial rejuvenation, microneedling, and platelet-rich plasma have a variety of facial rejuvenation applications with minimal side effect profiles, there is significant variability with treatment protocols, outcomes measures, and randomized controlled trials with extended follow-up to develop clinical practice guidelines.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the safety and efficacy of platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections as a therapeutic modality for mild to moderate erectile dysfunction. METHODS A placebo-controlled study of 100 cases with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction. Participants were allocated to 2 groups; the PRP group received 3 injections (3 mL each corpus) and the interval between injections was 15 days, while the Placebo (Saline) group received 6 mL saline injected intracavernous. Postinjection follow-up lasted 6 months. RESULTS Compared to the placebo group, the PRP group demonstrated a significant improvement at the 1 and 3 months follow-up that slightly dropped at the 6 months follow-up (P <.001). The improvement was evident in the duplex parameters, International Index of Erectile Function Erectile Function (IIEF-EF), SEP Q2, and 3. At 1-month post-treatment follow-up (76%) patients in the PRP group had an improved IIEF-EF as they attained a minimal clinically important difference compared to (18%) in the saline group. At the 3-months post-treatment follow-up, (72%) patients achieved a minimal clinically important difference in the PRP group vs (16%) in saline group then dropped to (70%) in the PRP group vs (16%) in saline group at the 6-months post-treatment follow up. Patients' overall and intercourse satisfaction levels were higher in the PRP group than the placebo group as demonstrated with the higher IIEF score Q6, 7, 8, and IIEF score Q13, 14 respectively with the maximum improvement reported at the 3 months follow-up. No reports of plaque formation, subcutaneous bruising, or any other major side effects among participants. CONCLUSION PRP is a safe and promising method for the improvement of mild to moderate erectile dysfunction.

Abstract
Autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) are promising therapeutic agents in facial rejuvenation since they are a great source of cytokines, growth factors and other biologically active substances. Obtained from the patient’s blood, they have the advantages of reducing immunological reactions, making the procedure safer, well tolerated, with minimal adverse effects and lower cost. Currently, they are used for facial rejuvenation both in combination with microneedling and in mesotherapy techniques, as well as to treat facial acne scars, melasma and wounds after laser ablative treatments. This review summarizes current knowledge on the use of APCs, ranging from basic concepts related to their composition and mechanisms of action to up-to-date information on their clinical efficacy.

Abstract
Background The “Inflammation Theory of Ageing” identifies pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidative damage as one cause of cellular and mitochondrial deterioration and aging. Cell-free blood cell secretome (BCS) also known as autologous conditioned serum (ACS) has shown anti-inflammatory and regenerative mode of action in musculoskeletal disorders and radicular compression. Aim To confirm that BCS can improve signs of skin aging from a previous study in a multi-center setting. Methods Prospective, one-armed, multi-center interventional therapeutic study. Ninety-five women with skin firmness loss were treated with four intra-dermal injection sessions in both cheeks at 0, 2, 4 and 6 weeks. BCS was processed with Exokine® medical device according to manufacturer’s instructions. Primary endpoints were cutometric R0 and R3 at 12 and 24 weeks. GAIS, FACE-QTM, Patient Attractivity Self-Assessment and safety were evaluated. Results Mean skin firmness (R0) improved significantly from baseline 0.40 mm to 0.38 mm at week 12 and to 0.36 mm at week 24. Mean skin tiring (R3) improved significantly from baseline 0.45 mm to 0.42 mm at week 12 and to 0.40 at week 24. FACE-QTM “Satisfaction with Skin” significantly improved from baseline to weeks 12, 24 and 48. So did “Satisfaction with Facial Appearance” and “Psychological and Social Function”. “Satisfaction with Decision” and “Satisfaction with Outcome” were stable at week 24 and 48. At week 48 patients assessed their age 1.68 years younger vs Baseline. FACE-QTM aging appraisal improves from Baseline 52.94 to 65.23 at week 48. GAIS, by both physicians and patients, confirm improvement of skin. Conclusion For up to 48 weeks four intra-dermal injections with cell-free BCS increase facial skin firmness and resilience to tiring and patients’ satisfaction with their facial appearance and skin. Patients perceive their face as younger. BCS has the ability to sustainably rejuvenate facial skin safely. Study Registration Registration on German clinical trials register: DRKS00013014.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Regenerative aesthetics is an emerging branch of regenerative medicine with therapies aimed at recapturing youthful structure and function using the body's own systems. OBJECTIVE To introduce the field of regenerative aesthetics, and to explore themes and evidence surrounding current and emerging therapies in the field. MATERIALS AND METHODS A review of the literature was performed for each of the 3 pillars of regeneration; namely, stem cells, biochemical cues, and scaffolds. RESULTS Herein, we provide an overview of the field of regenerative aesthetics, a discussion surrounding the 3 pillars of regeneration, and an overview of the evidence supporting current and emerging therapeutic modalities that could play a pivotal role in the future of aesthetic treatments. CONCLUSION An enhanced understanding of this field can serve to further enhance our awareness about the regenerative effects of therapies we already offer, in addition to providing inspiration for future innovation.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) rejuvenation's efficacy has been reported by numerous uncontrolled clinical case studies of inconsistent quality rather than large randomized and placebo-controlled trials. It was suggested that PRP could be considered as a valid anti-aging and rejuvenation treatment modality. The current literature review summarizes available evidence so far described in the literature with special critical attention to higher quality comparative studies published over the last 10 years. The few studies that could be retrieved and included in this review documented less favorable results. So far, there is no international consensus on clinical PRP use for esthetic rejuvenation. Whether a mix of growth factors does in fact generate a clinically significant more youthful look and whether PRP injections result in comparable or better rejuvenation than what can be expected from other simpler non-surgical modalities. Abstract
Purpose Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a promising noninvasive technique for facial rejuvenation. This systematic literature review aims to appraise the nature and quality of published evidence evaluating the effectiveness and safety of PRP in facial rejuvenation. Patients and Methods A systematic literature review was conducted with the search string “Platelet-rich plasma AND Facial rejuvenation” in PubMed and Embase. Clinical studies evaluating the outcomes after PRP-based facial rejuvenation either as monotherapy or in combination with other treatment modalities were included. Studies evaluating wound-healing properties of PRP were excluded. The outcomes included both patient-reported and physician-assessed outcomes. Nonstatistical synthesis of evidence was performed by qualitative assessment. The results are reported by the Synthesis Without Meta-analysis (SWiM) reporting standard. Results A total of 36 studies that included a total of 3172 patients were considered for the evidence synthesis. The number of patients in the included studies ranging from 11 to 2005 with a median of 27.5 patients that reflects the challenges in clinically assessing the aesthetic outcomes after PRP-based facial rejuvenation. Among the 36 studies, 17 were observational studies and 18 were interventional studies with 1 being case report PRP was evaluated either alone or in combination with hyaluronic acid, lipofilling, micro-needling technique, and laser-based interventions. Among the studies, 1 study reported the enhanced platelet concentrate in a fibrin matrix to be relatively safe and effective with a maximum benefit observed at 12 weeks suggesting the platelet-rich fibrin matrix may provide desired aesthetic outcomes and it requires further studies to substantiate. Conclusion The results suggest very limited clinical evidence, and further clinical studies are warranted to establish the effectiveness of PRP in facial rejuvenation. Furthermore, a consensus for end points used for establishing clinical utility in patients requiring facial rejuvenation is warranted.

Abstract
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is defined as the inability to achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. Available treatments for ED provide only symptomatic relief, which is for the most part temporary. Regenerative therapies such as Low Intensity Shockwave, Platelet-Rich Plasma, and Stem Cell therapy can potentially provide a "cure" for ED by reversing the underlying pathology of ED rather than just treating the symptoms. Low Intensity Shockwave therapy is the most evidence based at this point and is thought to act by improving penile blood flow, repairing previous nerve damage, and activating stem cells. Stem Cell therapy takes advantage of the self-replicative potential of stem cells to create new corporal tissue, but also to recruit host cells and angiogenic factors to stimulate endogenous repair. Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy uses concentrated growth factors that already exist within the bloodstream to repair damaged nerves and increase penile blood flow. The use of combination restorative therapy may provide an additive or synergistic benefit greater than any one therapy alone because of its overlapping mechanisms of action on the penis but is a topic that remains to be studied.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Periorbital skin is the thinnest. That is why, it is the easiest to wrinkle and the most challenging to rejuvenate. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as well as plasma gel have been used for skin rejuvenation and considered relatively safe and effective. METHODS This split-face study was conducted on forty female patients seeking periorbital rejuvenation where PRP was injected in the right (Rt) side and plasma gel in the left (Lt) side, two treatment sessions 4 weeks apart (week 0 and week 4). Patients were followed up 2 weeks after each treatment session (week 2 and week 6) as well as 12 weeks after the last session (week 16) using both subjective [physician assessment through Global Aesthetic Improvement score (GAIS) and patient's satisfaction (Likert scale)] and objective [Antera 3D camera] assessment methods. RESULTS Both modalities yielded a significant improvement of periorbital wrinkles after the 2nd session, with significantly better results on the plasma gel injected side; however, the improvement achieved through both modalities could not be maintained for the following 3 months. Besides, objective assessment could not prove any improvement in periorbital hyperpigmentation. CONCLUSION Two sessions of both PRP and plasma gel are effective for periorbital rejuvenation, with plasma gel showing significantly better results. However, improvement was not maintained for 3 months.

Abstract
Ultraviolet B (UVB) is one of the most common exogenous factors in skin aging, especially photoaging. Once a large amount of UVB accumulates within a short period of time, skin tissue can become inflamed. It has also been found in clinics that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can promote wound repair; therefore, the aim of this study was to identify the mechanism by which PRP repairs UVB-induced skin photodamage. We used PRP of Sprague-Dawley rats with the two-spin technique in the established acute UVB radiation photodamage model and harvested the corresponding skin after 1, 7, and 28 d. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was used to observe tissue inflammation. We found that PRP reduces inflammation in the early stages of UVB-induced acute skin damage, and then promotes the proliferation of collagen in the middle and late stages. Moreover, PRP can stimulate Act A and M1 polarization in the early stage, while inhibiting activin A (Act A) and inducing M2 polarization in the middle and late stages. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that PRP plays an important regulatory role in helping reduce UVB-induced acute skin tissue inflammation by adjusting macrophage polarization, which alleviates skin inflammation and stimulates collagen regeneration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of intradermal injections of modified hyaluronic acid (mHA) and combined injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and mHA (HA-PRP) on clinical and functional parameters in women with second-degree photoaging. METHODS Seventy-six healthy female participants diagnosed with second degree of skin photoaging were involved in two interventional study groups. The first group was treated with "bio-reparative" method (mHA) and the second group with "combined HA-PRP therapy". Additionally, 20 practically healthy women, with the first degree of photoaging according to Glogau classification, constituted the control group. Parameters of facial skin were evaluated in all groups before and after the injections. The patients in both interventional groups were compared based on skin therapy outcomes, using corneometry, sebumetry, cutometry, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and skin pH assessments. A post-interventional analysis was conducted to evaluate the level of satisfaction in physicians and study participants in accordance with GAIS. Intragroup and between-group analysis for the selected parameters was performed. RESULTS Compared with the control group, the combined therapy group did not show significant difference in parameters (p > 0.05) and the scores were significantly improved compared to mHA group (p < 0.001). Control and HA-PRP-treated groups were different only in sebumetry scores (SigDev = 2.1%). Significant difference was observed in the GAIS scores for patients between the interventional groups (p = 4.03297E-11 and 3.4093E-09, respectively). CONCLUSION Implementation of combined therapy is significantly effective compared to the mHA therapy alone. The higher efficacy is derived from significant recovery of functional parameters and GAIS survey results.

Abstract
Introduction Skin quality is an important component of human attractiveness. To date, there are no standardized criteria for good skin quality. To establish a consensus for good skin quality parameters and measurement and treatment options, a virtual skin quality advisory board consisting of a global panel of highly experienced aesthetic dermatologists/aesthetic physicians was convened. Methods A total of 10 dermatologists/aesthetic physicians served on the advisory board. A modified version of the Delphi method was used to arrive at consensus. Members accessed an online platform to review statements on skin quality criteria from their peers, including treatment and measurement options, and voted to indicate whether they agreed or disagreed. Statements that did not have agreement were modified and the members voted again. Consensus was defined as: strong consensus = greater than 95% agreement; consensus = 75% to 95% agreement; majority consent = 50% to 75% agreement; no consensus = less than 50% agreement. Results There was strong consensus that good skin quality is defined as healthy, youthful in appearance (appearing younger than a person's chronological age), undamaged skin and that skin quality can be described across all ethnicities by four emergent perceptual categories (EPCs): skin tone evenness, skin surface evenness, skin firmness, and skin glow. The EPCs can be affected by multiple tissue layers (ie, skin surface quality can stem from and be impacted by deep structures or tissues). This means that topical approaches may not be sufficient. Instead, improving skin quality EPCs can require a multilayer treatment strategy. Conclusion This global advisory board established strong consensus that skin quality can be described by four EPCs, which can help clinicians determine the appropriate treatment option(s) and the tissue or skin layer(s) to address. Skin quality is important to human health and wellbeing and patients' perception for the need for aesthetic treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many therapeutic options are currently available for facial skin rejuvenation, but little evidence exists about the efficacy of combining such procedures. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess and investigate the synergistic effect of hyaluronic acid (HA) and autologous platelet-rich plasma (a-PRP) injections on facial skin rejuvenation. METHODS For this randomized controlled prospective study, 93 eligible patients were enrolled and randomized into 3 intervention groups to undergo a series of 3 treatment sessions with either a-PRP, HA, or a mixture of a-PRP and HA (Cellular Matrix; Regen Lab) injected into facial cheeks. RESULTS A total of 93 patients were included. Treatment with Cellular Matrix led to a very significant improvement in the overall facial appearance compared with treatment with a-PRP or HA alone (P < 0.0001). Participants treated with Cellular Matrix showed a 20%, 24%, and 17% increase in FACE-Q score at 1, 3, and 6 months posttreatment, respectively. For the HA group, the improvement in FACE-Q score was 12%, 11%, and 6% at 1, 3, and 6 months posttreatment, respectively, whereas for the a-PRP group the improvement was 9%, 11%, and 8% at 1, 3, and 6 months posttreatment, respectively. Biophysical measurements showed significantly improved skin elasticity for the Cellular Matrix group compared with the groups receiving a-PRP or HA alone. No serious adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS Combining a-PRP and HA seems to be a promising treatment for facial rejuvenation with a highly significant improvement in facial appearance and skin elasticity compared with a-PRP or HA alone. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Striae distensae (SD) appear clinically as parallel striae, lying perpendicular to the tension lines of the skin. SD evolve into two clinical phases, an initial inflammatory phase in which they are called "striae rubrae" (SR) and a chronic phase in which they are called striae albae (SA). Fibroblasts seem to play a key role in the pathogenesis of stretch marks. This study was aimed at describing and analyzing stretch marks-derived fibroblasts (SMF), the differences between SR- and SA-derived fibroblasts (SRF, SAF), testing two treatments in vitro (sodium ascorbate and PrP) on SAF. MATERIAL AND METHODS To characterize the SMF, the expression of alpha smooth muscle actin (alpha SMA) was investigated. Type I collagen expression was measured in SAF, before and after adding different PrP concentrations and sodium ascorbate in the culture medium. Results were processed through statistical analysis models using the Student's t-test. RESULTS A significant increase in alpha SMA (P <0.001) was observed in SRF. SAF treated with PrP and sodium ascorbate showed a resumption of their metabolic activity by an increase in collagen type I production and cell proliferation. After 24 h of incubation with PrP 1% and PrP 5% + sodium ascorbate, cell viability was increased by 140% and 151% and by 156 and 178% after 48 h, respectively, compared to the control. CONCLUSION Our study shows that a biologically mediated improvement in SMF metabolic activity is possible. Our promising results require further trials to be able to confirm the reproducibility of this combined treatment, particularly in vivo. Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of platelet-rich plasma has emerged as one of the most desired nonsurgical treatments for facial rejuvenation and hair restoration. It has grown to encompass a wide variety of applications within the field of plastic surgery, including its use in combination with microneedling, laser, and fat-grafting procedures. METHODS In this article, the authors aim to (1) describe the preparation process of platelet-rich plasma; (2) discuss the proposed science behind platelet-rich plasma with regard to its evolving role in hair restoration and facial rejuvenation; and (3) highlight the recent literature examining its widespread use. RESULTS Based on the available literature, there is a therapeutic advantage to the use of platelet-rich plasma as a single treatment modality for alopecia and skin rejuvenation and in combination with laser skin treatment and fat grafting. There is, however, a considerable amount of variability in the processing, preparation, and treatment modalities. CONCLUSIONS Despite a lack of standardized protocols for platelet-rich plasma preparation and a scarcity of large-scale studies with long-term follow-up, there is convincing evidence with objective measurement modalities that display positive outcomes after treatment for skin rejuvenation, hair regrowth, wound healing, and fat graft take.

Abstract
Growth factors (GFs) play a vital role in cell proliferation, migration, differentiation and angiogenesis. Autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) which contain high levels of GFs make them especially suitable for periodontal regeneration and facial rejuvenation. The main generations of APCs presented are platelet-rich plasma (PRP), platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and concentrated growth factor (CGF) techniques. The purpose of this review is to provide the clinician with an overview of APCs' evolution over the past decade in order to give reliable and useful information to be used in clinical work. This review summarizes the most interesting and novel articles published between 1997 and 2020. Electronic and manual searches were conducted in the following databases: Pubmed, Scopus, Cochrane Library and Embase. The following keywords were used: growth factors, VEGF, TGF-b1, PRP, PRF, CGF and periodontal regeneration and/or facial rejuvenation. A total of 73 articles were finally included. The review then addresses the uses of the three different techniques in the two disciplines, as well as the advantages and limitations of each technique. Overall, PRP is mainly used in cases of hard and soft tissue procedures, while PRF is used in gingival recession and the treatment of furcation and intrabony defects; CGF is mainly used in bone regeneration.

Abstract
Intradermal injection of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical cosmetic therapy to rejuvenate the periorbital area pathologies of wrinkles, periorbital hyperpigmentation (POH), and photoaging. The past decade has seen the adoption of this novel therapy around the world. This is the first systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating PRP treatment of periorbital pathologies. This is a PRISMA compliant review that includes a comprehensive search of the databases Cochrane Library, Ovid Medline, Ovid Embase, and clinicaltrials.gov. The search was performed in June 2019 to obtain all peer-reviewed articles published in English that describe the application of PRP to periorbital pathologies. A meta-analysis of patient satisfaction was performed for randomized controlled trials. Nineteen studies treating 455 patients (95% female, age range 28-60) were included. Studies were categorized based on reported outcomes: wrinkles (11 studies), POH (7 studies), and photoaging (6 studies). Patients were treated a mean of 3 times (range 1-8) in mean intervals of 23 days (range 14-56 days). Follow-up averaged 3 months (range 1-6 months). Meta-analysis of 3 randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) shows that patients treated with PRP have increased satisfaction above controls of saline, platelet-poor plasma, mesotherapy, and as an adjunct to laser therapy (overall effect p = 0.001, heterogeneity I2 = 64%). PRP treatment of periorbital area pathologies results in histologic improvements of photoaging, subjective satisfaction score increases, and blind evaluator assessments of rejuvenated skin appearance. Future studies are needed to address limitations of the current literature and should include long-term follow-up, delineation of the POH etiology that is treated, RCTs with low risk of bias, and be absent conflicts of interest or industry sponsors.Trial registration: Prospero Systematic Review Registration ID: CRD42019135968.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel in the treatment of refractory pressure injuries and its effect on wound healing time and quality of life of patients. METHODS A random number table method was used to group 102 patients with refractory pressure injuries into either a control group (CG) (51 cases) receiving negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) or a study group (SG) (51 cases) receiving NPWT+PRP gel. RESULTS The total efficacy rate in the SG (92.16%) was higher than that in the CG (76.47%) (p<0.05). The SG exhibited lower visual analog scale (VAS) scores and pressure ulcer scale for healing (PUSH) scores, smaller wound sizes and depths, and shorter wound healing times than the CG after 21 days of treatment (p<0.05). After 6 months of treatment, the SG scored higher than the CG on the psychological, physiological, social functions, and daily activity domains on the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) scale (p<0.05). The incidence of postoperative complications in the SG (13.73%) was not significantly different from that of the CG (7.84%) (p>0.05). CONCLUSION In the treatment of refractory pressure injuries, PRP gel can accelerate wound healing, reduce wound pain, shorten the treatment cycle, regulate tissue inhibitor matrix metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) levels and the expression of specific proteins in granulation tissue, reduce the levels of the inflammatory factors interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and improve the quality of life of patients without increasing complications.

Abstract
Adipose-derived stem cell (ADSC)-based therapeutic strategies are in fast-pace advancement in wound treatment due to their availability and the ability to self-renew, undergo multilineage differentiation and self-renewal. Existing studies have successfully explored ADSCs to facilitate scar-free healing of small wounds, but whether the healing of large-area wounds that exhibit over 50% of skin tissue loss in the entire body could be achieved remains controversial. This study sought to review the mechanism of physiological wound healing, and discuss the roles played by chemokines, biological factors and biomaterial scaffolds. The possibility of applying ADSC-conditioned medium or ADSC-released exosomes as 'off-the-shelf' tissue engineering products, integrated with biomaterial scaffolds to facilitate wound healing, was analyzed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an increasingly popular treatment modality for various dermatologic conditions, but there are limitations in both the published literature and clinician knowledge. OBJECTIVE To create a high-yield, in-depth analysis of PRP in procedural dermatology by reviewing available data on its role in hair restoration, soft-tissue remodeling, resurfacing, and rejuvenation; identifying practice gaps and controversies; and making suggestions for future research that will establish dermatologists as pioneers of regenerative medicine. MATERIALS AND METHODS A two-part systematic review and expert analysis of publications before October 2018. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION Most studies on PRP report favorable outcomes with the strongest level of evidence existing for androgenetic alopecia followed by postprocedure wound healing, scar revision, striae, rejuvenation, and dermal filling. There is a dearth of large randomized controlled trials, considerable heterogeneity in the variables studied, and lack of specificity in the preparatory protocols, which may influence clinical outcomes. Future investigations should use consistent nomenclature, find ideal solution parameters for each cutaneous indication, determine significant outcome metrics, and follow double-blinded, randomized, controlled methodologies. Addressing these deficiencies will take sound scientific inquiry but ultimately has the potential to benefit the authors' specialty greatly.

Abstract
Vitiligo is the most common depigmentation disorder of the skin. Currently, its therapy focuses on the halting of the immune response and stimulation of the regenerative processes, leading to the restoration of normal melanocyte function. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) represents a safe and cheap regenerative therapy option, as it delivers a wide spectrum of native growth factors, cytokines and other bioactive molecules. The aim of this study was to develop a simple delivery system to prolong the effects of the bioactive molecules released from platelets. The surface of electrospun and centrifugally spun poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) fibrous scaffolds was functionalized with various concentrations of platelets; the influence of the morphology of the scaffolds and the concentration of the released platelet-derived bioactive molecules on melanocytes, was then assessed. An almost two-fold increase in the amount of the released bioactive molecules was detected on the centrifugally spun vs. electrospun scaffolds, and a sustained 14-day release of the bioactive molecules was demonstrated. A strong concentration-dependent response of melanocyte to the bioactive molecules was observed; higher concentrations of bioactive molecules resulted in improved metabolic activity and proliferation of melanocytes. This simple system improves melanocyte viability, offers on-site preparation and is suitable for prolonged topical PRP administration.

Abstract
Background This paper presents the possibilities of pretreatment instrumental diagnosis for assessing the condition of various facial skin areas. Aim Tests which aimed at determining the firmness and elasticity of facial skin were conducted. Methods Analysis of skin parameters in selected facial areas in adults over a wide age range was performed using the Cutometer Dual MPA 580 probe. Parameters R0, R2, R5, R7, R8, and R9 were analyzed. Results The following results were obtained: R0 (0.20‐0.33) mm; R2 (0.66‐0.82) a.u.; R5 (0.60‐0.92) a.u.; R7 (0.37‐0.52) a.u.; R8 (0.10‐0.27) mm; and R9 (0.03‐0.05) mm. The R0 parameter showed no statistically significant correlation between skin firmness and age. On the basis of the other parameters, it can be concluded that skin elasticity and an ability to return to its original shape around the eyes, on the cheeks and around the lips, are greater in younger patients than in older groups. There were no statistically significant differences within each age group between the right and left sides of the face. Conclusion Skin firmness described by the R0 parameter is constant in the studied groups and independent of age. Skin elasticity, and an ability to return to its original shape around the eyes, on the cheeks and around the lips, is greater in younger patients. The aging process simultaneously affects the entire facial skin.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The periorbital region is among the first areas to be affected by the process of aging, which is influenced by genetic and constitutional factors. As the region plays an important role in overall facial appearance, rejuvenation of the area has immense cosmetic benefit and various treatment modalities have been used to achieve the same. AIMS This article reviews commonly used non-surgical and minimally invasive modalities for periorbital rejuvenation. METHODS The literature research considered published journal articles (clinical trials or scientific reviews). Studies were identified by searching electronic databases (MEDLINE and PubMed) and reference lists of respective articles. Only articles available in English were considered for this review. RESULTS Autologous platelet rich plasma (PRP) is increasingly used in dermatology for skin and hair conditions. The use of PRP is rapidly growing in popularity as a modality to achieve skin rejuvenation. The mechanism by which PRP leads to skin rejuvenation is by increasing the dermal fibroblast proliferation, expression of matrix metalloproteinase and collagen synthesis. CONCLUSION The evidence discussed in this article indicates the increasing importance of minimally invasive modalities in periorbital rejuvenation and a promising role for PRP as solo therapy or in multimodality regimens.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained popularity in facial plastic surgery because of its role in wound healing. PRP, having a higher concentration of platelets, allows for greater release of growth factors and biologically active proteins, which in turn activates the wound-healing cascade stimulating neoangiogenesis and collagen production. One of the most popular uses for PRP is for facial skin rejuvenation in the form of dermal injections and topical application during microneedling. The promising nature of PRP makes using it for injection and/or in conjunction with microneedling a good addition to any practice that deals with skin rejuvenation.

Abstract
Importance There remains little experimental evidence and no randomized clinical trial to date to confirm the benefit of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for facial rejuvenation. Objective To investigate whether PRP injection improves the visual appearance, including texture and color, of photodamaged facial skin. Design, Setting, and Participants In this randomized clinical trial, participants and raters were masked to groupings. The setting was an academic-based, urban outpatient dermatology practice in Chicago, Illinois. Participants were adults aged 18 to 70 years with bilateral cheek rhytids of Glogau class II or greater. The duration of the study was August 21, 2012, to February 16, 2016. Interventions Each participant received 3 mL intradermal injections of PRP to one cheek and sterile normal saline to the contralateral cheek. Main Outcomes and Measures Primary outcomes were photoaging scores (with subscores for fine lines, mottled pigmentation, roughness, and sallowness) as rated by 2 masked dermatologists. Secondary outcomes included participant self-assessment scores of improvement on a 5-point scale (worsening, no change, mild improvement, moderate improvement, or significant improvement), participant overall satisfaction scores on a 4-point scale (not satisfied, slightly satisfied, moderately satisfied, or very satisfied), and participant-reported or investigator-observed adverse events. Results Of 27 enrolled participants, 19 (mean [SD] age, 46.37 [10.88] years; 17 female) were analyzed. Reported adverse events, which were not associated with the study agent, included redness (n = 18), swelling (n = 16), bruising (n = 14), pruritus (n = 1), skin scaling (n = 1), and dryness of skin (n = 1). No participants reported any adverse events at 12 months. Mean (SD) photoaging scores rated by 2 dermatologists showed no significant difference between PRP and normal saline for fine lines (baseline, 1.00 [0.75] vs 1.05 [0.78]; 2 weeks, 0.95 [0.71] vs 0.95 [0.71]; 3 months, 0.95 [0.71] vs 0.95 [0.71]; 6 months, 0.95 [0.71] vs 0.95 [0.71]), mottled pigmentation (baseline, 1.21 [0.53] vs 1.21 [0.54]; 2 weeks, 1.16 [0.60] vs 1.16 [0.60]; 3 months, 1.00 [0.47] vs 1.11 [0.46]; 6 months, 1.16 [0.69] vs 1.16 [0.69]), skin roughness (baseline, 0.47 [0.61] vs 0.47 [0.61]; 2 weeks, 0.47 [0.61] vs 0.47 [0.61]; 3 months, 0.47 [0.61] vs 0.47 [0.61]; 6 months, 0.37 [0.60] vs 0.37 [0.68]), and skin sallowness (baseline, 1.11 [0.88] vs 1.11 [0.88]; 2 weeks, 0.95 [0.85] vs 0.95 [0.85]; 3 months, 0.58 [0.61] vs 0.58 [0.61]; 6 months, 0.37 [0.68] vs 0.37 [0.68]). At 6 months after a single treatment, participants rated the PRP-treated side as significantly more improved compared with normal saline for texture (mean [SD] self-assessment score, 2.00 [1.20] vs 1.21 [0.54]; P = .02) and wrinkles (mean [SD] self-assessment score, 1.74 [0.99] vs 1.21 [0.54]; P = .03). Conclusions and Relevance Masked participants noted that both fine and coarse texture improved significantly more with a single treatment of PRP than with normal saline. Both participants and raters found PRP to be nominally but not significantly superior to normal saline. Trial Registration ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01372566.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In recent years, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a promising autologous biological treatment modality for the use in aesthetic and regenerative medicine. PRP is a high concentration of platelets derived from whole blood which is isolated by centrifugation to separate and concentrate platelet-containing plasma from red blood cells. PRP comprises hundreds of bioactive proteins, including growth factors, peptides, and cytokines that stimulate healing of skin and soft tissues. Attractive features of PRP are the extended release of various growth and differentiation factors from activated platelets, tissue regenerative, and healing capabilities, as well as the lack of problems associated with immunogenicity. Because of the unique biological features of this whole blood-derived biological agent, multiple clinical uses for PRP exist for aesthetic and regenerative medicine. EVIDENCE ACQUISITIONS A comprehensive review of the literature regarding the use of platelet-rich plasma in aesthetic and regenerative medicine was performed. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS Therapeutic applications of PRP including several methods for its clinical deployment in conditions related to aesthetic and regenerative medicine including wound healing, skin and facial rejuvenation, hair restoration, hand rejuvenation, breast augmentation, and musculoskeletal regeneration were reviewed. CONCLUSION PRP treatment has shown itself as a bright future for a safe and efficient cosmetic intervention. However, more studies are needed to better our understanding of limitations and benefits in clinical phases associated with the aesthetic use of PRP. Abstract
Nowadays autologous fibroblast application for skin repair presents an important clinical interest. In most cases, in vitro skin cell culture is mandatory. However, cell expansion using xenogeneic or allogenic culture media presents some disadvantages, such as the risk of infection transmission or slow cell expansion. In this study, we investigated an autologous culture system to expand human skin fibroblast cells in vitro with the patient's own platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Human dermal fibroblasts were isolated from patients undergoing abdominoplasty, and blood was collected to prepare nonactivated PRP using the CuteCell™ PRP medical device. Cultures were followed up to 7 days using a medium supplemented with either fetal bovine serum (FBS) or PRP. Fibroblasts cultured in medium supplemented with PRP showed dose-dependently significantly higher proliferation rates (up to 7.7 times with 20% of PRP) and initiated a faster migration in the in vitro wound healing assay compared with FBS, while chromosomal stability was maintained. At high concentrations, PRP changed fibroblast morphology, inducing cytoskeleton rearrangement and an increase of alpha-smooth muscle actin and vimentin expression. Our findings show that autologous PRP is an efficient and cost-effective supplement for fibroblast culture, and should be considered as a safe alternative to xenogeneic/allogenic blood derivatives for in vitro cell expansion. Impact Statement Autologous dermal fibroblast graft is an important therapy in skin defect repair, but in vitro skin cell culture is mandatory in most cases. However, cell expansion using xenogeneic/allogenic culture media presents some disadvantages, such as the risk of infection transmission. We demonstrated that an autologous culture system with the patient's own platelet-rich plasma is an efficient, cost-effective, and safe supplement for fibroblast culture. As it respects the good manufacturing practices and regulatory agencies standards, it should be considered as a potent alternative and substitute to xenogeneic or allogenic blood derivatives for the validation of future clinical protocols using in vitro cell expansion.

Abstract
Introduction: The goal of our prospective study was to assess the efficacy of the topical Platelet-rich plasma on reducing superficial perioral wrinkles and restoring the dermal matrix. Materials and methods: 50 women with moderate to severe perioral wrinkles were treated on the perioral area by a single session of fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing plus intradermal injection of prp. 25 patients (group 1) applied topically prp twice a day for 12 weeks as post laser treatment. 25 (group 2) applied gentamicin and betamethasone twice a day for the first 7 days and then hyaluronic acid gel for the following 12 weeks. Results: In group 1, moisture (p < 0.001), amount of collagen fiber (p < 0.001) skin elasticity (p < 0.001), PSAl (p < 0.001) and SSAl (p < 0.001) improved significantly. In group 2 all the parameters investigated improved but did not reach significant difference. Discussion: Our medical device with a plasma-like formulation is able to maintain prp active for a period of 7 days so patients are able to apply topically growth factors at home. Conclusions: Our prospective study proves that the use of topical prp reduces superficial perioral wrinkles and restore dermal matrix when used at home for 12 weeks.

Aim: Based on the classical principles, to determine the optimal conditions for centrifugation, PRP harvesing (platelet-rich plasma). To conduct a quantitative assessment of the substrate obtained under different conditions of centrifugation.
Materials and methods. Based on the basic principles of obtaining platelet-rich plasma (PRP) by centrifuging in containers with an anticoagulant followed by phase separation to obtain the final substrate, the efficiency of the technique under the conditions of single and double centrifugation as well as under different conditions of acceleration and centrifugation was evaluated.
Blood for follow-up was collected from 20 healthy volunteers (11 men, 9 women) average 25.3±4.1 in syringes of LuerLock design with ACD-A anticoagulant solution, and centrifuged. Centrifugation was carried out under controlled conditions using a centrifuge with rotating bowls of the rotor. Centrifugation was performed at an acceleration of 100-400g in time intervals up to 20 minutes. Activation of the substrate was performed with calcium chloride solution.
Quantitative evaluation of platelets of whole blood and the final substrate of PRP was carried out with a semi-automatic analyzer.
Results. The obtained results demonstrate the maximum level of harvesting efficiency when performing double centrifugation in the 150g×15 min+250g×10 min mode. Subject to this centrifugation protocol, it is possible to obtain a substrate that complies with the standardized requirements for PRP.
The maximum level of an increase in the number of platelets in the substrate in comparison with whole blood is determined at the level of ×4.36 with concentration (volume reduction) x5 in comparison with the volume of whole blood.
Conclusions. This study demonstrated the advantage of double centrifuging modes over single modes.
According to the results of the study, it was possible to determine the conditions for an optimal double-centrifugation mode (acceleration and duration), which allows us to achieve the most efficient concentration of the substrate.

Abstract
As a promising alternative to traditional treatment, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is being used to encourage hair growth through the release of growth factors and cytokines. In addition to hair restoration, PRP’s multifactorial capabilities can also be used to treat aging skin, facial scarring, and acne. The purpose of this review is to critically examine the success of PRP in the field of dermatology, with specific attention to the role of PRP in hair restoration. Where possible, meta-analyses were used to evaluate the efficacy of PRP. In androgenetic alopecia (AGA) patients, 3 monthly PRP injections (1 session administered every month for 3 months) exhibited greater efficacy over placebo as measured by change in total hair density (hair/cm2) over the treatment period (mean difference: 25.61, 95% CI: 4.45 to 46.77; P = .02). The studies included in the meta-analysis used a half-head design, which may have influenced the results because of the effects PRP can induce. Controlled studies suggest that 2 to 4 sessions of PRP combined with traditional therapies and procedures can help minimize acne scarring and facial burns, improve aesthetic results, and decrease recovery time. However, data for these indications are lacking and are less robust in design. In conclusion, to achieve an improvement in hair restoration in patients with mild AGA, 3 initial monthly PRP injections should be given. Only upon completion of rigorous, randomized, controlled studies can standardized and effective PRP protocols for treating dermatology conditions such as acne scarring, facial burns, and aging skin be determined.

Abstract
BACKGROUND During skin aging, a degeneration of connective tissue and decrease in hyaluronic acid polymers occur. Since platelet-rich plasma (PRP) contains growth factors and various cytokines, it was hypothesized that it could play a role in fibroblast activation and type I collagen expression in human fibroblasts. OBJECTIVES This study was performed to assess the efficacy of autologous PRP injections for facial skin rejuvenation, measured by biometric instrumental evaluations and patient-reported outcomes. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients signed an informed consent form. The EmCyte PurePRP® system technology was used to produce neutrophil-poor PurePRP. The efficacy of the procedures was assessed by biometric parameters, and a patient outcome a self-assessment questionnaire on each visit and at 6-month follow-up. RESULTS Eleven volunteers were included in the study, receiving 3 PurePRP® treatments. A significant decrease in brown spot counts and area (P < 0.05) was seen after 3 months. Wrinkle count and volume were significantly reduced (P < 0.05 for total wrinkle appearance). Skin firmness parameters were significantly improved. Skin redness was significantly improved after 169 days post-therapy for both the nasolabial and malar areas. A decrease in SLEB thickness was already noted at 2 months after the first injection, with an increase in SLEB density (P < 0.05 for both parameters), without affecting subcutaneous fat thickness. Self-assessment at 6-month follow-up revealed an average satisfaction score of >90%. CONCLUSIONS A series of 3 PurePRP injections at 6-month follow-up resulted in significant skin rejuvenation as demonstrated by biometric parameters and confirmed by patient self-assessment score.

Abstract
Platelet preparations, including platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin matrix, have been used to improve wound healing, recovery time, and cosmetic outcomes for facial rejuvenation. Bioactive growth factors released from platelets are the putative agents in producing a reparative tissue reaction in the treated area. Different methods of processing the patients' blood will yield different types of platelet preparations with different components and properties, and it is important to understand these differences and their potential implications. More robust studies are necessary to better understand the nuances of these preparations and their optimal use.

Abstract
Background Treatment of the lower eyelid region to rejuvenate the skin or treat actinic elastosis often proves difficult. Established treatment options, such as hyaluronic acid injections, botulinum toxin injections, microneedling, skin resurfacing (microdermabrasion, chemical peel (exfoliation), laser treatment), as well as blepharoplasties and autologous fat transfers, can be associated with significant risks and increased patient burden. Furthermore, they may not be effective for treating the signs of skin aging or actinic elastosis, including dark rings under the eyes, a lack of volume and cutis laxa. A minimally invasive treatment approach which visibly improves the above-mentioned conditions and which involves minimal risk and patient burden would be a desirable alternative. Materials & methods Twenty patients were treated a total of three times at monthly intervals with PRP (platelet-rich plasma). The patients were examined on the days of treatment and one month after the third injection. The PRP was obtained directly prior to treatment using the Arthrex ACP double syringe at the point of care. The injections (2 ml PRP per side) were administered laterally using 27 G 38 mm cannulas. Accurate photographic documentation and skin elasticity measurements using a cutometer were performed to objectify the subjective assessments from the patient and practitioner questionnaires. Results A progressive improvement in the esthetic outcome and a high level of patient satisfaction were determined. The cutometer measurements showed a statistically significant higher level of skin firmness (due to increased collagen production) and a statistically significant increase in skin elasticity (thanks to increased elastin production). Other than the anticipated visible swelling directly after the PRP injection, no other undesirable side effects or complications occurred. The typical burning sensation during the injection had not been reported. Conclusion The results indicate that a series of PRP injections in the lower eyelid region is a safe, efficient, virtually pain-free, simple and rapid treatment option for an area with otherwise limited treatment alternatives.
