Abstract
(1) Background: Obesity in the perimenopausal period is associated with hormonal changes, lifestyle, and environment. In obesity, elevated levels of IL-6 and TNF-α and reduced levels of adiponectin are observed, and the associated chronic inflammation favors the development of cardiometabolic diseases. Therefore, the aim of our study was to assess the relationship between selected measures of obesity (BMI, WC, RFM, VAI, WHtR) and parameters of chronic inflammation (CRP, TNF-α, IL-6) in perimenopausal women. (2) Methods: The study involved 172 perimenopausal women. The methods used in this study were diagnostic surveys, anthropometric measurements, blood pressure measurements, and venous blood sampling. (3) Results: Preliminary multivariate linear regression analysis showed that CRP moderately positively correlated with IL-6 (β = 0.25; p = 0.001) and weakly negatively correlated with adiponectin (β = -0.23; p = 0.002). Similar associations were noted in preliminary multivariate linear regression analysis adjusted for age, menopausal status, and smoking status. Preliminary multivariate linear regression analysis also showed that BMI positively correlated with IL-6 (β = 0.16; p = 0.033). VAI weakly positively correlated with CRP (β = 0.25; p = 0.001) and negatively correlated with adiponectin (β = -0.43; p = 0.000). (4) BMI, WC, RFM, VAI, and WHtR are clearly related to selected parameters of chronic inflammation. Our study suggests that each of the anthropometric variables provides distinct information on metabolic processes associated with inflammatory parameters.

Abstract
Menopause is an aging process and an important time equivalent to one-third of a woman's lifetime. Menopause significantly increases the risk of cardiometabolic diseases, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, non-alcoholic liver disease (NAFLD)/metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MFFLD), and metabolic syndrome (MetS). Women experience a variety of symptoms in the perimenopausal period, and these symptoms are distressing for most women. Many factors worsen a woman's menopausal experience, and controlling these factors may be a strategy to improve postmenopausal women's health. This review aimed to confirm the association between menopause and metabolic diseases (especially MetS), including pathophysiology, definition, prevalence, diagnosis, management, and prevention.

Abstract
The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) differs between various stages of the female lifespan. The aim of this review is to summarize current evidence on the association of NAFLD and circulating sex hormones and to explore the pathogenesis of NAFLD within the context of (1) sex hormone changes during the reproductive, post-reproductive female life and beyond and (2) the in vitro and in vivo evidence on pharmacological modulation in women on menopausal hormone treatment (MHT) or endocrine therapy after breast cancer. The fluctuation in estrogen concentrations, the relative androgen excess, and the age-related reduction in sex hormone-binding globulin are related to increased NAFLD risk. Moreover, the peri-menopausal changes in body composition and insulin resistance might contribute to the increased NAFLD risk. Whether MHT prevents or improves NAFLD in this population remains an open question. Studies in women with breast cancer treated with tamoxifen or non-steroidal aromatase inhibitors point to their adverse effects on NAFLD development, although a more pronounced effect of tamoxifen is reported. Future studies focusing on the underlying pathogenesis should identify subgroups with the highest risk of NAFLD development and progression into more aggressive forms, as well as elucidate the role of hormone therapies, such as MHT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Abdominal obesity is strongly associated with the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Early identification and intervention may reduce the risk. We aim to improve pediatric NAFLD screening by comparing discriminative performance of six abdominal obesity indicators. METHODS We measured anthropometric indicators (waist circumference [WC], waist-to-hip ratio [WHR], waist-to-height ratio [WHtR]), body composition indicators (trunk fat index [TFI], visceral fat area [VFA]), and endocrine indicator (visceral adiposity index [VAI]) among 1350 Chinese children aged 6-8 years. Using Spearman correlation, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and Logistic regression, we validated their ability to predict NAFLD. RESULTS All six indicators can predict NAFLD robustly, with area under the curve (AUC) values ranged from 0.69 to 0.96. TFI, WC, and VFA rank in the top three for the discriminative performance. TFI was the best predictor with AUC values of 0.94 (0.92-0.97) and 0.96 (0.92-0.99), corresponding to cut-off values of 1.83 and 2.31 kg/m2 for boys and girls, respectively. Boys with higher TFI (aOR = 13.8), VFA (aOR = 11.1), WHtR (aOR = 3.1), or VAI (aOR = 2.8), and girls with higher TFI (aOR = 21.0) or VFA (aOR = 17.5), were more likely to have NAFLD. CONCLUSION User-friendly body composition indicators like TFI can identify NAFLD and help prevent the progress of liver disease. TRIAL REGISTRATION Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR) ( www.chictr.org.cn/enIndex.aspx , No. ChiCTR2100044027); retrospectively registered on 6 March 2021. IMPACT Abdominal obesity increases the risk of pediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study compared the discriminative performance of multiple abdominal obesity indicators measured by different methods in terms of accuracy and fastidious cut-off values through a population-based child cohort. Our results provided solid evidence of abdominal obesity indicators as an optimal screening tool for pediatric NAFLD, with area under the curve (AUC) values ranged from 0.69 to 0.96. User-friendly body composition indicators like TFI show a greater application potential in helping physicians perform easy, reliable, and interpretable weight management to prevent the progress of liver damage.

Abstract
PURPOSE Aging is associated with significant changes in fat distribution and menopause may alter this process. This study aimed to investigate the longitudinal effect of menopause on changes in adiposity indices (AI). METHODS A total number of 3876 non-menopausal women, aged > 20 years, who participated in the Tehran Lipid and Glucose study, were selected for the present study. They were followed from 1998 to 2018 at a 3-year interval and their adiposity indices were measured. Throughout the study, participants were categorized into two groups according to their menopausal status as group 1): women who reached menopause and group 2): women who did not reach menopause. The generalized estimation equation (GEE) models were used to compare the trend of changes in AIs between these two groups. RESULTS At the end of the study, a total number of 1479 (38.2%) participants reached menopause. The odds of general obesity decreased by 5% (OR: 0.95, 95% CI: 0.90-0.99), and the odds of central obesity increased by 6% in group1 compared to group2 (OR: 1.06, 95% CI: 1.01-1.12). CONCLUSIONS Menopause alters the impact of aging on central fat distribution. Increasing awareness of the related risk in menopausal women and their healthcare professional may prevent adverse related outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype (HWP) has exhibited a strong association with metabolic syndrome, a condition closely linked with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, no study has investigated whether the HWP can accurately predict NAFLD among premenopausal and postmenopausal women or whether alternative anthropometric indexes could replace waist circumference (WC) in the HWP. We examined the power of phenotypes combining triglyceride (TG) levels with anthropometric indexes such as body mass index (BMI), WC, waist-to-hip ratio, waist-to-height ratio, and percent body fat, to detect NAFLD among premenopausal and postmenopausal women. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study of 1125 premenopausal women and 654 postmenopausal women who had received an annual health checkup. For all the participating women, we measured both anthropometric and biochemical indexes, such as serum lipid levels. NAFLD diagnoses were made on the basis of abdominal ultrasonography findings. The receiver operating characteristic curve and area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the indicators' ability to detect NAFLD. RESULTS Among the indicators of hepatic steatosis, the combined phenotypes of TG level (≥1.50 mmol/L) and BMI (≥24.0 kg/m2) exhibited the largest AUC (0.841, 95%confidence interval [CI] 0.812-0.871, P< 0.001) for premenopausal women, whereas WC alone exhibited the highest predictive potential (0.765, 95% CI 0.729-0.801, P< 0.001) for postmenopausal women. CONCLUSION Out of all the phenotypes combining a single anthropometric index with TG level or WC and TG level, the combination of TG level and BMI was the best indicator of NAFLD for premenopausal women. For screening NAFLD in postmenopausal women, WC alone was superior to all other indicators.
