Abstract
Infectious keratitis (IK) represents a significant global health concern, ranking as the fifth leading cause of blindness worldwide despite being largely preventable and treatable. Elderly populations are particularly susceptible due to age-related changes in immune response and corneal structure. However, research on IK in this demographic remains scarce. Age-related alterations such as increased permeability and reduced endothelial cell density further compound susceptibility to infection and hinder healing mechanisms. Additionally, inflammaging, characterized by chronic inflammation that develops with advanced age, disrupts the ocular immune balance, potentially exacerbating IK and other age-related eye diseases. Understanding these mechanisms is paramount for enhancing IK management, especially in elderly patients. This review comprehensively assesses risk factors, clinical characteristics, and management strategies for bacterial, viral, fungal, and acanthamoeba keratitis in the elderly population, offering crucial insights for effective intervention.

Abstract
Purpose To determine the demographic and microbiological profile involved in the causation of corneal ulcers in Eastern India during the COVID era. Method Patients presenting with corneal ulcers fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria were taken as the case. The study duration was from January 2021 to December 2021. Socio-demographic details and information about risk factors were noted. A detailed corneal examination followed by corneal scraping was performed for microbiological evaluation. Results In 1 year, 99 infective corneal ulcer patients were evaluated. Farmers (24.2%) were found to be maximally affected by corneal ulcers. The peak in cases was recorded from October to December (38.4%). Ocular trauma was the commonest risk factor (42.4%). The majority (80.8%) of patients were already on some topical antimicrobials. 22.2% of samples showed fungal filaments on KOH mount; 54.5% of these cases turned out to be culture-positive. 17.56% of KOH-negative samples turned out to be culture-positive (fungal). Overall, the culture positivity rate was 28.28% out of which fungal isolates were 89.28% and bacterial isolates were 10.72%. Fusarium species were identified as the most common organism contributing 42.85%, followed by Aspergillus fumigatus (14.28%). 10.72% of cases were culture positive for Pseudomonas aeuroginosa. Conclusion Trauma with the organic matter was the predominant cause of fungal keratitis. In this study, fungal keratitis was found to be more common. Fusarium was the most common isolate.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the direct healthcare cost of admission and examine the effects of cost drivers of treating presumed microbial keratitis (MK) at a tertiary referral hospital. Design Retrospective study. Methods A total of 741 patients who presented with MK were included. All information regarding costs was collected, and demographic data were employed for risk factor analysis. Results The total cost of treating MK over a 7-year period at Rajavithi Hospital was US$14,514,625.04, while the median cost was US$10,840.17 per patient (Q1-3, US$5866.56-24,172.28). The medical professional services were the highest cost category in terms of both total cost of treatment over 7 years and median cost per patient, accounting for US$6,474,718.43 and US$5235.20 (Q1-3, US$2582.79-10,474.24) respectively. In 2020, the total cost of treatment declined, corresponding with fewer hospitalized patients; however, the median cost per patient was the highest of all years, amounting to US$15,089.90 (Q1-3, US$8064.17-29102.50), while the median cost per patient from 2014 to 2019 was US$9969.96 (Q1-3, US$5177.98-21,942.68). Statistical significance was found in the median cost per patient in 2020 compared to the median cost per patient in 2014-2019 (p-value 0.019). Risk factors associated with the more expensive cost of treatment were longer length of stay (LOS); age more than 60 years old; readmission; diabetes mellitus (DM); hypertension; and heart disease. Conclusion There were several key factors impacting the direct healthcare costs of severe MK treatment. Medical professional services emerged as the most substantial cost category, while longer hospital stays, older age groups, readmission cases, and comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and heart disease were all linked to elevated treatment expenses. There were no statistically significant differences in the direct medical expenses during hospitalization associated with treating severe MK, whether the culture results were positive or negative, or regardless of the type of cultured organism utilized.

Abstract
Importance Neighborhood-level social risk factors may contribute to health disparities in microbial keratitis (MK) disease presentation. Understanding neighborhood-level factors may identify areas for revised health policies to address inequities that impact eye health. Objective To investigate if social risk factors were associated with presenting best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) for patients with MK. Design, Setting, and Participants This was a cross-sectional study of patients with a diagnosis of MK. Patients presenting to the University of Michigan with a diagnosis of MK between August 1, 2012, and February 28, 2021, were included in the study. Patient data were obtained from the University of Michigan electronic health record. Main Outcomes and Measures Individual-level characteristics (age, self-reported sex, self-reported race and ethnicity), presenting log of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) BCVA, and neighborhood-level factors, including measures on deprivation, inequity, housing burden, and transportation at the census block group, were obtained. Univariate associations of presenting BCVA (< 20/40 vs ≥20/40) with individual-level characteristics were assessed with 2-sample t, Wilcoxon, and χ2 tests. Logistic regression was used to test associations of neighborhood-level characteristics with the probability of presenting BCVA worse than 20/40 after adjustment for patient demographics. Results A total of 2990 patients with MK were identified and included in the study. Patients had a mean (SD) age of 48.6 (21.3) years, and 1723 were female (57.6%). Patients self-identified with the following race and ethnicity categories: 132 Asian (4.5%), 228 Black (7.8%), 99 Hispanic (3.5%), 2763 non-Hispanic (96.5%), 2463 White (84.4%), and 95 other (3.3%; included any race not previously listed). Presenting BCVA had a median (IQR) value of 0.40 (0.10-1.48) logMAR units (Snellen equivalent, 20/50 [20/25-20/600]), and 1508 of 2798 patients (53.9%) presented with BCVA worse than 20/40. Patients presenting with logMAR BCVA less than 20/40 were older than those who presented with 20/40 or higher (mean difference, 14.7 years; 95% CI, 13.3-16.1; P < .001). Furthermore, a larger percentage of male vs female sex patients presented with logMAR BCVA less than 20/40 (difference, 5.2%; 95% CI, 1.5-8.9; P = .04), as well as Black race (difference, 25.7%; 95% CI, 15.0%-36.5%;P < .001) and White race (difference, 22.6%; 95% CI, 13.9%-31.3%; P < .001) vs Asian race, and non-Hispanic vs Hispanic ethnicity (difference, 14.6%; 95% CI, 4.5%-24.8%; P = .04). After adjusting for age, self-reported sex, and self-reported race and ethnicity, worse Area Deprivation Index (odds ratio [OR], 1.30 per 10-unit increase; 95% CI, 1.25-1.35; P < .001), increased segregation (OR, 1.44 per 0.1-unit increase in Theil H index; 95% CI, 1.30-1.61; P < .001), higher percentage of households with no car (OR, 1.25 per 1 percentage point increase; 95% CI, 1.12-1.40; P = .001), and lower average number of cars per household (OR, 1.56 per 1 less car; 95% CI, 1.21-2.02; P = .003) were associated with increased odds of presenting BCVA worse than 20/40. Conclusion and Relevance Findings of this cross-sectional study suggest that in a sample of patients with MK, patient characteristics and where they live were associated with disease severity at presentation. These findings may inform future research on social risk factors and patients with MK.

Abstract
Infectious keratitis is a rare but potentially severe sight-threatening disease, associated with considerable societal burden, cost and morbidity. This review summarises the most recent evidence for the incidence, risk factors and impact of disease, all of which vary widely according to region, access to health care, socioeconomic and environmental factors, predisposing conditions and causative organisms. The frequency and societal impact of infectious keratitis are significantly higher in low-income countries. In non-viral infectious keratitis, bacterial causes predominate in most regions. Fungi, particularly linked with agricultural trauma, are more frequently associated with infectious keratitis in low-income regions, particularly in India and certain African countries. The disease impact is compounded by poverty and limited access to services and treatment. Early diagnosis, access to appropriate treatment, prophylaxis in ocular trauma, availability of eye protection, awareness of risk factors may be associated with reduced disease severity and vision loss. Evidence for the incidence and burden of disease is lacking in certain regions and well-designed epidemiological studies to identify independent risk factors for the disease and those associated with more severe outcomes may better identify causation and guide resource allocation and preventative strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acute bacterial conjunctivitis is an infection of the conjunctiva and is one of the most common ocular disorders in primary care. Antibiotics are generally prescribed on the basis that they may speed recovery, reduce persistence, and prevent keratitis. However, many cases of acute bacterial conjunctivitis are self-limited, resolving without antibiotic therapy. This Cochrane Review was first published in The Cochrane Library in 1999, then updated in 2006, 2012, and 2022. OBJECTIVES To assess the benefits and side effects of antibiotic therapy in the management of acute bacterial conjunctivitis. SEARCH METHODS We searched CENTRAL (which contains the Cochrane Eyes and Vision Group Trials Register) (The Cochrane Library 2022, Issue 5), MEDLINE (January 1950 to May 2022), Embase (January 1980 to May 2022), the metaRegister of Controlled Trials (mRCT) (www.controlled-trials.com), ClinicalTrials.gov (www. CLINICALTRIALS gov), and the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP) (www.who.int/ictrp/search/en). We did not use any date or language restrictions in the electronic searches for trials. We last searched the electronic databases in May 2022. SELECTION CRITERIA: We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in which any form of antibiotic treatment, with or without steroid, had been compared with placebo/vehicle in the management of acute bacterial conjunctivitis. This included topical and systemic antibiotic treatments. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS Two authors independently reviewed the titles and abstracts of identified studies. We assessed the full text of all potentially relevant studies and determined the included RCTs, which were further assessed for risk of bias using Cochrane methodology. We performed data extraction in a standardized manner and conducted random-effects meta-analyses using RevMan Web. MAIN RESULTS We included 21 eligible RCTs, 10 of which were newly identified in this update. A total of 8805 participants were randomized. All treatments were topical in the form of drops or ointment. The trials were heterogeneous in terms of their eligibility criteria, the nature of the intervention (antibiotic drug class, which included fluoroquinolones [FQs] and non-FQs; dosage frequency; duration of treatment), the outcomes assessed and the time points of assessment. We judged one trial to be of high risk of bias, four as low risk of bias, and the others as raising some concerns. Based on intention-to-treat (ITT) population, antibiotics likely improved clinical cure (resolution of clinical symptoms or signs) by 26% (RR 1.26, 95% CI 1.09 to 1.46; 5 trials, 1474 participants; moderate certainty) as compared with placebo. Subgroup analysis showed no differences by antibiotic class (P = 0.67) or treatment duration (P = 0.60). In the placebo group, 55.5% (408/735) of participants had spontaneous clinical resolution by days 4 to 9 versus 68.2% (504/739) of participants treated with an antibiotic. Based on modified ITT population, in which participants were analyzed after randomization on the basis of positive microbiological culture, antibiotics likely increased microbiological cure (RR 1.53, 95% CI 1.34 to 1.74; 10 trials, 2827 participants) compared with placebo at the end of therapy; there were no subgroup differences by drug class (P = 0.60). No study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of antibiotic treatment. Patients receiving antibiotics had a lower risk of treatment incompletion than those in the placebo group (RR 0.64, 95% CI 0.52 to 0.78; 13 trials, 5573 participants; moderate certainty) and were 27% less likely to have persistent clinical infection (RR 0.73, 95% CI 0.65 to 0.81; 19 trials, 5280 participants; moderate certainty). There was no evidence of serious systemic side effects reported in either the antibiotic or placebo group (very low certainty). When compared with placebo, FQs (RR 0.70, 95% CI 0.54 to 0.90) but not non-FQs (RR 4.05, 95% CI 1.36 to 12.00) may result in fewer participants with ocular side effects. However, the estimated effects were of very low certainty. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS The findings of this update suggest that the use of topical antibiotics is associated with a modestly improved chance of resolution in comparison to the use of placebo. Since no evidence of serious side effects was reported, use of antibiotics may therefore be considered to achieve better clinical and microbiologic efficacy than placebo. Increasing the proportion of participants with clinical cure or increasing the speed of recovery or both are important for individual return to work or school, allowing people to regain quality of life. Future studies may examine antiseptic treatments with topical antibiotics for reasons of cost and growing antibiotic resistance.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to predict visual acuity (VA) 90 days after presentation for patients with microbial keratitis (MK) from data at the initial clinical ophthalmic encounter. METHODS Patients with MK were identified in the electronic health record between August 2012 and February 2021. Random forest (RF) models were used to predict 90-day VA < 20/40 [visual impairment (VI)]. Predictors evaluated included age, sex, initial VA, and information documented in notes at presentation. Model diagnostics are reported with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for area under the curve (AUC), misclassification rate, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV). RESULTS One thousand seven hundred ninety-one patients were identified. The presenting logMAR VA was on average 0.86 (Snellen equivalent and standard deviation = 20/144 ± 12.6 lines) in the affected or worse eye, and 43.6% with VI. VI at 90-day follow-up was present in the affected eye or worse eye for 26.9% of patients. The RF model for predicting 90-day VI had an AUC of 95% (CI: 93%-97%) and a misclassification rate of 9% (7%-12%). The percent sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV were 86% (80%-91%), 92% (89%-95%), 81% (74%-86%), and 95% (92%-97%), respectively. Older age, worse presenting VA, and more mentions of "penetrating keratoplasty" and "bandage contact lens" were associated with increased probability of 90-day VI, whereas more mentions of "quiet" were associated with decreased probability of 90-day VI. CONCLUSIONS RF modeling yielded good sensitivity and specificity to predict VI at 90 days which could guide clinicians about the risk of poor vision outcomes for patients with MK.

Abstract
Ocular bacterial infections can lead to serious visual disability without proper treatment. Moxifloxacin (MOX) has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration as a monotherapy for ocular bacterial infections and is available commercially as an ophthalmic solution (0.5% w/v). However, precorneal retention, drainage, and low bioavailability remain the foremost challenges associated with current commercial eyedrops. With this study, we aimed to design a MOX-loaded nanoemulsion (NE; MOX-NE) with mucoadhesive agents (MOX-NEM) to sustain MOX release, as well as to overcome the potential drawbacks of the current commercial ophthalmic formulation. MOX-NE and MOX-NEM formulations were prepared by hot homogenization coupled with probe sonication technique and subsequently characterized. The lead formulations were further evaluated for in vitro release, ex vivo transcorneal permeation, sterilization, and antimicrobial efficacy studies. Commercial MOX ophthalmic solution was used as a control. The lead formulations showed the desired physicochemical properties and viscosity. All lead formulations showed sustained release profiles a period of more than 12 h. Filtered and autoclaved lead formulations were stable for one month (the last time point tested) under refrigeration and at room temperature. Ex vivo transcorneal permeation studies revealed a 2.1-fold improvement in MOX permeation of the lead MOX-NE formulation compared with Vigamox® eyedrops. However, MOX-NEM formulations showed similar flux and permeability coefficients to those of Vigamox® eyedrops. The lead formulations showed similar in vitro antibacterial activity as the commercial eyedrops and crude drug solution. Therefore, MOX-NE and MOX-NEM formulations could serve as effective delivery vehicles for MOX and could improve treatment outcomes in different ocular bacterial infections.

Abstract
Purpose: To compare the costs associated with medications and travel of patients with smear-proven bacterial keratitis and fungal keratitis in a tertiary care center in India. Methods: Retrospective analysis of case records of a cohort of patients who presented between April 2017 and March 2018 to a tertiary care center in India, with infectious keratitis who were smear-positive for bacteria or fungi, and whose costs of treatment and travel were supported by a philanthropic program. Results: In total, 672 case records of 177 smear-positive bacterial keratitis (BK) and 495 smear-positive fungal keratitis (FK) were included in the study. Further, 62% of BK and 75% of FK received more than one antimicrobial drug (P < 0.001). The mean total medication cost (INR) was significantly more in FK (959.1 ± 675.2) compared to BK (674.9 ± 463.7) (P < 0.0001). The mean medication cost (INR) per visit was also more for FK (201.1 ± 109.4) compared to BK (155.2 ± 84.1) (P < 0.0001). The mean total medication cost was significantly more for FK for both patients who healed with medical treatment (611.6 ± 395.6 for BK, 801.5 ± 599.9 for FK, P = 0.0005) and for patients who required TPK (953.7 ± 653.1 for BK, 1374.6 ± 701.5 for FK, P = 0.0023) compared to their respective counterparts in BK Conclusion: Patients with fungal keratitis incurred significantly more on medications compared to patients with bacterial keratitis irrespective of whether they had healed with successful medical treatment or required therapeutic keratoplasty. Prolonged duration of treatment and the high costs of antifungal medications account for the significant economic burden of fungal keratitis.

Abstract
Accuracy of medication data in electronic health records (EHRs) is crucial for patient care and research, but many studies have shown that medication lists frequently contain errors. In contrast, physicians often pay more attention to the clinical notes and record medication information in them. The medication information in notes may be used for medication reconciliation to improve the medication lists' accuracy. However, accurately extracting patient's current medications from free-text narratives is challenging. In this study, we first explored the discrepancies between medication documentation in medication lists and progress notes for glaucoma patients by manually reviewing patients' charts. Next, we developed and validated a named entity recognition model to identify current medication and adherence from progress notes. Lastly, a prototype tool for medication reconciliation using the developed model was demonstrated. In the future, the model has the potential to be incorporated into the EHR system to help with realtime medication reconciliation.

Abstract
PURPOSE Medication nonadherence is a ubiquitous problem. However, the adherence of patients to medications to manage corneal conditions is unknown. A prospective cohort study investigated the patterns of eye drop adherence among patients with corneal conditions. METHODS Patients older than or equal to 18 years taking prescription eye medications were recruited from an academic center's corneal clinic. Data collected included age, sex, total doses of eye medications, and category of primary corneal diagnosis. Participants completed adapted versions of the 12-question Adherence to Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS) and the 3-question Voils' Medication Adherence Scale (VMAS). Survey data were dichotomized as "adherent" and "nonadherent," and subscales reported for reasons of nonadherence. Logistic regression analyses were used to test associations with adherence. RESULTS A total of 199 participants were surveyed from February to March 2019 (95% response rate). Participants were aged 19 to 93 years with a mean age of 59 years (SD 17.8). The percent of participants considered nonadherent was 72% by the ARMS and 33% by the VMAS. Older age was associated with higher adherence by the ARMS (odds ratio = 1.48, 95% confidence interval, 1.14-1.93, P = 0.004) and by the VMAS (odds ratio = 1.24, confidence interval, 1.04-1.48, P = 0.012). Adherence was not significantly associated with race, sex, education, total doses of eye medications, or primary cornea diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS Medication adherence was lower than expected, particularly on the ARMS scale that asks more detailed questions. Clinicians should engage in conversations about adherence, especially with younger patients, if they are not seeing an expected clinical response.

Abstract
Bacterial keratitis continues to be one of the leading causes of corneal blindness in the developed as well as the developing world, despite swift progress since the dawn of the "anti-biotic era". Although, we are expeditiously developing our understanding about the different causative organisms and associated pathology leading to keratitis, extensive gaps in knowledge continue to dampen the efforts for early and accurate diagnosis, and management in these patients, resulting in poor clinical outcomes. The ability of the causative bacteria to subdue the therapeutic challenge stems from their large genome encoding complex regulatory networks, variety of unique virulence factors, and rapid secretion of tissue damaging proteases and toxins. In this review article, we have provided an overview of the established classical diagnostic techniques and therapeutics for keratitis caused by various bacteria. We have extensively reported our recent in-roads through novel tools for accurate diagnosis of mono- and poly-bacterial corneal infections. Furthermore, we outlined the recent progress by our group and others in understanding the sub-cellular genomic changes that lead to antibiotic resistance in these organisms. Finally, we discussed in detail, the novel therapies and drug delivery systems in development for the efficacious management of bacterial keratitis.

Abstract
Purpose To assess clinical applicability of automatic image analysis in microbial keratitis (MK) by evaluating the relationship between biomarker measurements on slit-lamp photography (SLP) and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA). Methods Seventy-six patients with MK with SLP images and same-day logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) BCVA were evaluated. MK biomarkers (stromal infiltrate, white blood cell infiltration, corneal edema, hypopyon, epithelial defect) were segmented manually by ophthalmologists and automatically by a novel, open-source, deep learning–based segmentation algorithm. Five measurements (presence, maximum width, total area, proportion of the corneal limbus area affected, centrality) were calculated. Correlations between the measurements and BCVA were calculated. An automatic regression model estimated BCVA from the measurements. Differences in performance between using manual and automatic measurements were evaluated using William's test (for correlation) and the paired-sample t-test (for absolute error). Results Measurements had high correlations of 0.86 (manual) and 0.84 (automatic) with true BCVA. Estimated BCVA had average (mean ± SD) absolute errors of 0.39 ± 0.27 logMAR (manual, median: 0.30) and 0.35 ± 0.28 logMAR (automatic, median: 0.30) and high correlations of 0.76 (manual) and 0.80 (automatic) with true BCVA. Differences between using manual and automatic measurements were not statistically significant for correlations of measurements with true BCVA (P = .66), absolute errors of estimated BCVA (P = .15), or correlations of estimated BCVA with true BCVA (P = .60). Conclusions The proposed algorithm measured MK biomarkers as accurately as ophthalmologists. Measurements were highly correlated with and estimative of visual acuity. Translational Relevance This study demonstrates the potential of developing fully automatic objective and standardized strategies to aid ophthalmologists in the clinical assessment of MK.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the burden of procedures, visits, and procedure costs in the management of microbial keratitis (MK). METHODS Medical records of patients from an academic hospital outpatient facility between December 2013 and May 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were included if they were older than the age of 18 years, recruited for study of likely MK, and not concurrently undergoing treatment for other acute eye conditions. For procedural costs, Medicare data for billing were obtained using the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Physician Fee Lookup tool. RESULTS A total of 68 patients were included for analysis. Patients were on average 51.3 years (SD = 19.5), 55.9% women (n = 38), and 89.7% White (n = 61). Per person, the average number of procedures was 2.9 (SD = 4.2). The average number of visits was 13.9 (SD = 9.2) over an average of 26.9 weeks (SD = 24.3). Age (P < 0.0001), positive Gram stain (P = 0.03), and mixed Gram stain (P = 0.002) were positively associated with the number of procedures. Age (P = 0.0003), fungal keratitis (P = 0.02), and mixed Gram stain (P = 0.01) were positively associated with the number of visits. Race was inversely associated with the number of procedures (P = 0.045) and visits (0.03). Patients with bacterial keratitis were more likely to have amniotic membrane grafts (P = 0.01) and tarsorrhaphies (P = 0.03) than fungal patients. Across all procedures performed for the management of MK, the mean cost per patient was $1788.7 (SD = $3324.62). CONCLUSIONS Patients incur many procedural costs and attend many visits during the management of MK. These findings emphasize the importance of patient-provider communication for frequent follow-up care and the potential need to perform procedures for disease management.

Algorithm Variability in Quantification of Epithelial Defect Size in Microbial Keratitis Images. Cornea 2021; 39:628-633. Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the sources of measurement variability when quantifying the morphology of microbial keratitis (MK) from slit-lamp photography (SLP) images using a semiautomated, image-analysis algorithm. METHODS Prospectively enrolled patients with MK underwent SLP to obtain images of their epithelial defects (ED). Eyes were stained with fluorescein and imaged multiple times under blue light, at low and high magnifications. A masked research assistant chose the 3 best images and annotated each 3 times to provide seed regions corresponding to ED and healthy cornea. The algorithm returned the ED area for each seeded image. Eyes without EDs and algorithm failures were excluded. Variance components were estimated with a random effects model and intraclass correlation coefficients estimated with intragrader reliability. RESULTS A total of 42 eyes from 42 MK participants were photographed. After excluding poor quality images, eyes with no EDs, and algorithm failures, 34 patients with 92 images and 274 seeds were analyzed. No significant differences in the average ED area were found between seedings or high- versus low-SLP magnifications (all P > 0.5, paired t tests). Minimal measurement variability was because of image (0.9%), magnification (0.2%), or seed (0.1%). Most variability was attributable to differences in ED sizes between patients (85.2%). 13.7% of variability was unexplained. Multiple iterations of the algorithm on the same image showed good consistency (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.98, 95% confidence interval, 0.97-0.99). CONCLUSIONS Image-analysis algorithms showed good reliability for measuring the ED area from SLP images. Most measurement variability was because of between-patient differences, not imaging settings or application of the algorithm by the user.
