Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study analysed the spatial and temporal patterns of cervical cancer incidence in Addis Ababa from 2012 to 2021. DESIGN An ecological study was conducted from 1 September to 30 November 2023 to examine the spatiotemporal trends of cervical cancer incidence. SETTING The research was conducted in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. PARTICIPANTS Included were all patients with clinically and/or histopathologically confirmed diagnoses of cervical cancer. DATA ANALYSIS The study employed advanced analytical tools including R programming, Quantum Geographic Information System V.3.36.0, GeoDa V.1.2.2 and System for Automated Geoscientific Analyses GIS V.9.3.2. Techniques such as Bayesian empirical testing with a block weighting matrix for hotspot identification, Global Moran's I for spatial autocorrelation, nearest neighbour imputation and universal Kriging interpolation were used to manage data gaps. Joinpoint trend analysis and direct age-standardised incidence rate (ASIR) using the Segi's World standard population was applied to compare trends across subcities. A statistical significance threshold was set at p<0.05. RESULTS Between 2012 and 2021, a total of 2435 new cervical cancer cases were recorded in the Addis Ababa City Population-based Cancer Registry, with significant spatial clustering observed in Nifas Silk Lafto, Bole, Kirkos as well as parts of Gulele and Yeka sub cities (z score>1.96) in 2018. The citywide age-standardised incidence rate varied from 19 to 26 cases per 100 000 women-years during 2013 and 2016, respectively. Subcity trends varied significantly, with increases and decreases noted in Akaki Kality and Kolfe Keraniyo over different periods while Bole subcity showed modest increase at 4.2% APC (95% CI: 0.6% to 7.9%; p=0.026). CONCLUSION The study highlights substantial fluctuations in ASIR and significant geographic disparities in cervical cancer throughout Addis Ababa. To address these challenges, the implementation of school-based human papillomavirus vaccination programmes, alongside targeted interventions, active campaigns and sustained surveillance, is critical. These strategies are essential to effectively reduce the cervical cancer burden and improve health outcomes in the community.

Abstract
Despite the success of humorous messages in various health interventions, its role in promoting physical activity (PA) remains understudied. This study addresses this gap by investigating the effectiveness of humorous messages in a 2-week smartphone-based intervention aimed at promoting walking behavior, particularly amongst cognitively fatigued individuals. Female participants (n = 57; Mage = 32.00; SD = 4.385) received humorous, nonhumorous, or a mix of both messages (in the form of memes) via a study-specific application, with cognitive fatigue measured daily. Panel linear regression models revealed a significant positive interaction between cognitive fatigue and message type. Our results suggest that the resilience of humorous messages to cognitive fatigue and their potential as motivational tools position them as a more robust choice for promoting PA. Importantly, when cognitively fatigued individuals received humorous messages, their walking behaviors showed no significant change, in contrast to the detrimental impact of nonhumorous messages on exercise. Recognizing the differential effects of cognitive fatigue on message effectiveness and considering the potential of humorous messages as motivational tools offers a valuable perspective for tailoring interventions to individual states.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical cancer, albeit preventable, is the second-most deadly gynecological cancer in developing nations. Little is known about cervical cancer among Bangladeshi women. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of cervical cancer screening and demographic correlates to identify potential variabilities in screening rates among different demographic groups and regions. METHODS This study used secondary data from the WHO STEPS 2018 Survey. We used Bayesian regression to perform the bivariate analyses between the outcome and each explanatory factor, as it generates more acceptable results and improves parameter estimates. The top-ranked socio-demographic factors were identified using a two-step cluster analysis. This method determines the relevance of predictor variables and automatically establishes the number of clusters. RESULTS The prevalence of Bangladeshi women who had ever been screened for cervical cancer was 6.2%. In the adjusted model, women with the following socio-demographic factors had a higher likelihood of developing cervical cancer: being 18-29 years old (AOR = 3.3, 95% CI: 0.24, 15.27) or 45-59 years old (AOR = 2.8, 95% CI: 1.22, 6.0), currently married (AOR = 2.3, 95% CI: 1.36, 3.70), and employed (AOR = 2.4, 95% CI: 1.40, 4.06). Women in the Barisal division were found to have higher odds of being screened for cervical cancer (AOR = 21, 95% CI: 0.66, 121.97). Cluster analysis found residence status predisposes women to cervical cancer screening. CONCLUSION There is a significant potential for substantial reductions in the burden of cervical cancer in Bangladesh by strengthening the application of cervical cancer screening. Future studies should examine how socioeconomic status, culture, and healthcare access affect cervical cancer screening trends for different divisions in Bangladesh. An independent national cancer registry is urgently needed to evaluate screening trends and outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effects of physical activity on the development of different types of cancers have not been comprehensively studied. This nationwide, population-based cohort study investigated the effects of leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) on the development of different types of cancer in Taiwanese adults. A total of 67,890 adult participants (≥ 18 y old) from five rounds (2001, 2005, 2009, 2013, and 2017) of the Taiwan National Health Interview Survey were included. LTPA was measured as the metabolic equivalent of task (MET) expenditure per week and was classified as inactive (< 1 MET-h), low (1-7.49 MET-h), or high (≥ 7.5 MET-h). The LTPA and other covariates were collected through in-person interviews at baseline. New-onset cancer was ascertained from histopathological reports. The Fine-Gray sub-distribution method, with death as a competing risk, was used to determine the impact of LTPA on incident cancer risk. RESULTS During the 844,337 person-years of follow-up, 4,435 individuals developed cancer. Compared to inactive adults, individuals engaging in high levels of LTPA (≥ 7.5 MET-h/week) were significantly associated with a reduced risk of developing cancer (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] = 0.93; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.87-0.99). However, those with low levels of LTPA (1-7.49 MET-h/week) did not exhibit a significant association with a reduced risk of developing cancer (aHR = 1.00; 95% CI = 0.92-1.10). When considering specific types of cancers, participants with high levels of LTPA (≥ 7.5 MET-h/week) had a significantly lower risk of developing bladder cancer (aHR = 0.68; 95% CI = 0.47-0.99), cervical cancer (aHR = 0.48; 95% CI = 0.24-0.95), and thyroid cancer (aHR = 0.64; 95% CI = 0.44-0.93). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that high LTPA (≥ 7.5 MET-h/week) is significantly associated with a low risk of incident bladder, cervical, and thyroid cancers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to explore the association between occupational exposure to diesel exhaust (DE) and gynaecological and breast cancers. METHODS A systematic review was performed to identify cohort studies reporting results on the association between occupational exposure to DE and risk of gynaecological and breast cancers. STROBE guidelines and PECOS criteria were followed. We identified 6 studies for breast cancer (BC), 4 for cervical cancer (CC), 4 for endometrial cancer (EC) and 7 for ovarian cancer (OC). Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted on the relationship between DE exposure and BC, CC, EC, and OC risk; 95% confidence intervals (CI) and prediction intervals (PI) were reported. We investigated between-study heterogeneity and potential publication bias using Egger's test. RESULTS No associations were observed between occupational DE exposure and risk of BC [RR=0.93; CI: 0.77-1.13; PI:0.50-1.73, I2=80.31%], EC [RR=0.89; CI: 0.75-1.05; PI:0.61-1.30, I2=0.78%], and OC [RR=1.08; CI: 0.89-1.32, PI: 0.76-1.56, I2=11.87%]. A weak association was observed for CC [RR=1.41; CI: 1.17-1.17; PI:0.85-2.30, I2=6.44%]. No between-study heterogeneity or publication bias was detected. CONCLUSIONS This study identified an association between DE exposure and CC, which was not adjusted for potential confounders. No evidence of an association was found with BC, EC, and OC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study was to determine the prevalence of HPV in non-vaccinated women from East China, and the association between prestored smartphone monitored physical activity and the risk of human papillomaviruses (HPV) infection and cervical cancer. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed medical records of unvaccinated women received first-time cervical HPV screening in the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences between March 2018 and December 2019. HPV genotyping was examined by the GenoArray. Physical activity defined by any movements at speeds of 0.5-2 m/s was obtained from smartphones. We collected prestored physical activity data for 6 months prior to the HPV screening. Logistic regression models were applied to determine the association between physical activity and the risk of HPV infection and cervical cancer. RESULTS A total of 11,730 women were initially included. Women with cervical cancer had significantly higher prevalence of infection with any high-risk (HR) HPV, or with individual HPV16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52 and 58. Among them, 896 controls and 289 cervical cancer women had information of smartphone monitored physical activity. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that more daily physical activity time (or distance) was a protective factor for infection with any HR HPV, or infection with HPV16, but not other individual HPVs. Increased age, less physical activity time (or distance), and infection with any HR HPV (16, 18, 31, 52 and 58) were associated with a significantly increased risk of cervical cancer. In contrast, obesity was not associated with risk of HPV infection and cervical cancer. CONCLUSION The high prevalence of HPV infection in unvaccinated women highlights the importance of prevention. More daily physical activity time (or distance) may help to reduce the risk of HPV infection and cervical cancer. Smartphone monitoring is an effective tool for recording physical activity.<br />.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Physical activity is associated with improved cancer outcomes; however, it is unclear which patients may benefit most from increased physical activity. We evaluated whether associations between meeting the American Cancer Society (ACS) physical activity recommendations and psychosocial outcomes in gynecologic cancer survivors varied by type of treatments received. METHODS We recruited English-speaking adult gynecologic cancer patients from an academic gynecologic oncology practice to participate in a prospective cohort study. Participants completed a survey at study entry regarding their psychosocial health-including distress, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and quality of life (QoL)-and physical activity. Multivariate linear regression models for each psychosocial outcome tested for interactions between physical activity and each effect modifier (receipt of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or minimally invasive surgery), adjusted for age, pain, body mass index, primary cancer diagnosis, cancer stage, time since diagnosis, and annual household income. RESULTS Among a total of 362 participants, 213 (59%) met ACS physical activity recommendations. We found evidence of interactions between physical activity and receipt of chemotherapy for depression, anxiety, and QoL scores; those who had received chemotherapy had a stronger association between physical activity and these psychosocial outcomes, compared to those who had not. We found no evidence of interactions between physical activity and receipt of radiation therapy or minimally invasive surgery for any of the outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Gynecologic cancer survivors who received chemotherapy had significant associations between psychosocial health and physical activity, suggesting they may derive greatest benefit from prescribed exercise.

Abstract
Cervical cancer is one of the most prevalent malignant neoplasms worldwide. We investigated whether leisure-time physical activity is sufficient to decrease the cervical neoplasia risk and provide suggested guidance of metabolic equivalents of task–hours per week (MET-h/week) spent on leisure-time physical activity to prevent cervical neoplasia. Ultimately, 433 participants, including 126 participants with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia I or higher disease (≥CIN 1) and 307 healthy controls, were recruited. All participants completed a standardized questionnaire about leisure-time physical activity engagement (MET-h/week) and a general health questionnaire and had cervical specimens taken to detect human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. CIN 1 staging was identified from the specimens. Participants with physical activity of ≥3.75 MET-h/week had a significantly lower CIN risk compared to those with physical activity of <3.75 MET-h/week (p = 0.01). However, among participants with HPV infection or smokers, the minimal requirement of leisure-time physical actively to lessen the CIN risk was ≥7.5 MET-h/week. Lifetime leisure-time physical activity of ≥0.12 MET-h/week–year also significantly decreased the CIN risk, but women with HPV infection needed ≥13.2 MET-h/week–year to protect them from a CIN risk. We concluded that regular leisure-time physical activity of ≥7.5 MET-h/week and sustained lifetime leisure-time physical activity ≥13.2 MET-h/week–year are vital factors for protecting women against cervical neoplasia risk.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the association between pre-diagnostic recreational physical inactivity (RPI) and pancreatic cancer (PC) mortality. METHODS This analysis included 107 patients seen at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center diagnosed with PC between 1989 and 1998. Cox proportional hazards models were used to determine hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for PC mortality associated with self-reported pre-diagnostic RPI. Models were adjusted for known prognostic factors, including age, sex, stage at diagnosis, smoking status, and body mass index (BMI). Results were also stratified by sex, BMI, smoking status, histology, and treatment status. RESULTS We observed a significant association between RPI and PC mortality in all patients (HR = 1.72, 95% CI = 1.06-2.79), as well as among overweight or obese patients (HR = 2.74, 95% 95% CI = 1.42-5.29), females (HR = 2.63; 95% CI, 1.08-6.39), and non-smokers (HR = 1.72; 95% CI, 1.02-2.89). CONCLUSION These results suggest that RPI prior to PC diagnosis is associated with a higher risk of death. Future studies with larger sample sizes are needed to explore whether this association varies across tumor histology.

Abstract
Several studies have reported that diet’s inflammatory potential is related to chronic diseases such as cancer, but its relationship with cervical cancer risk has not been studied yet. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII®) and cervical cancer risk among Korean women. This study consisted of 764 cases with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)1, 2, 3, or cervical cancer, and 729 controls from six gynecologic oncology clinics in South Korea. The DII was computed using a validated semiquantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Odds ratios and 95% CI were calculated using multinomial logistic regression. Higher DII scores were associated with higher cervical carcinogenesis risk. A significant association was observed between the DII and risk among CIN2/3 [Odds Ratio (OR) = 3.14; 95% Confidence Intervals (CI) = 1.57–6.29] and cervical cancer patients (OR = 1.98; 95% CI = 1.01–3.88). Among Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)-positive women, a significant association was found between DII and cervical carcinoma risk with CIN2/3 (OR = 5.65; 95% CI = 1.38–23.2). Moreover, women with CIN2/3 and cervical cancer showed a significant association with proinflammatory diet in people without of physical activity (OR = 3.79; 95% CI = 1.81–7.93). These findings suggest that high intake of proinflammatory diets is associated with increased risk of cervical carcinogenesis among women with CIN2/3. Further evaluation in future studies to confirm this association is warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although physical activity is a well-established risk factor for several cancer types, studies evaluating its association with lymphoma have yielded inconclusive results. In such cases where physical activity is not clearly associated with cancer risk in a dose-dependent manner, investigators have begun examining physical inactivity as an independent exposure of interest. METHODS Associations of self-reported, lifetime physical inactivity with risk of developing Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) were evaluated in a hospital-based case control study using data from the Patient Epidemiology Data System at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Participants included 87 patients with HL and 236 patients with NHL as well as 348 and 952 cancer-free controls, respectively. Multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models were fit to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) estimating the association between physical inactivity and lymphoma risk. RESULTS We observed significant, positive associations between lifetime recreational physical inactivity and risk of both HL (OR = 1.90, 95% CI: 1.15-3.15) and NHL (OR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.01-1.82). CONCLUSIONS The current analysis provides evidence for a positive association between physical inactivity and risk of both HL and NHL. These results add to a growing body of research suggesting that lifetime physical inactivity may be an important independent, modifiable behavioral risk factor for cancer.

Abstract
Despite mounting epidemiological evidence suggesting an inverse association between recreational physical activity and cancer risk, evidence associated with head and neck cancer is scant. We conducted a case-control analysis to examine the associations of lifetime physical inactivity with the risk of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). We utilized data from the Patient Epidemiology Data System at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI). Participants included 246 patients with HNSCC and 504 cancer-free controls who received medical services at RPCI between 1990 and 1998. Participants were considered physically inactive if they did not participate in any regular, weekly recreational physical activity throughout their lifetime, prior to diagnosis. Multivariate logistic regression models were utilized to estimate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) representing the association between lifetime physical inactivity and HNSCC risk. We observed a significant positive association between recreational physical inactivity and HNSCC risk (OR = 2.73, 95% CI 1.87-3.99, p < 0.001). In subgroup analyses by body mass index (BMI) (underweight/normal-weight: OR = 3.40, 95% CI 1.89-6.12, p < 0.001; overweight/obese: OR = 2.40, 95% CI 1.43-4.02, p < 0.001) and smoking status (former smoker: OR = 3.12, 95% CI 1.89-5.14, p < 0.001; never smoker: OR = 2.71, 95% CI 1.21-6.05, p = 0.020; current smoker: OR = 1.61, 95% CI 0.66-3.95, p = 0.300), significant positive associations were also observed. Results of the current analyses suggest that lifetime physical inactivity associates with HNSCC independent of BMI. In addition, physical inactivity may be a modifiable risk factor among never smokers. These data add to the growing body of evidence suggesting that physical inactivity may be an independent risk factor for cancer.
