Abstract
Meniere's disease (MD) is a severe inner ear condition known by debilitating symptoms, including spontaneous vertigo, fluctuating and progressive hearing loss, tinnitus, and aural fullness or pressure within the affected ear. Prosper Meniere first described the origins of MD in the 1860s, but its underlying mechanisms remain largely elusive today. Nevertheless, researchers have identified a key histopathological feature called Endolymphatic Hydrops (ELH), which refers to the excessive buildup of endolymph fluid in the membranous labyrinth of the inner ear. The exact root of ELH is not fully understood. Still, it is believed to involve several biological and bioenvironmental etiological factors such as genetics, autoimmunity, infection, trauma, allergy, and new theories, such as saccular otoconia blocking the endolymphatic duct and sac. Regarding treatment, there are no reliable and definitive cures for MD. Most therapies focus on managing symptoms and improving the overall quality of patients' life. To make significant advancements in addressing MD, it is crucial to gain a fundamental understanding of the disease process, laying the groundwork for more effective therapeutic approaches. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the pathophysiology of MD with a focus on old and recent theories. Current treatment strategies and future translational approaches (with low-level evidence but promising results) related to MD are also discussed, including patents, drug delivery, and nanotechnology, that may provide future benefits to patients suffering from MD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Among older adults, depressive symptoms increase with each chronic illness; however, specific disease-related stressors (e.g., pain) and contextual moderators (interpersonal, sociocultural, temporal) of this relationship remain understudied. We explored disease-related stressors associated with depressive symptoms and moderating effects of contextual factors on this relationship, guided by a social ecological framework. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Adults ≥62 years with multimorbidity (n = 366) completed validated scales assessing diagnoses, disease-related stressors (pain intensity, subjective cognitive function, physical function, somatic symptoms), and depressive symptoms. Moderators included age, expectations regarding aging, perceived social support, and difficulty affording medications. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. RESULTS Participants were 62-88 years old, with several comorbidities (M = 3.5; range: 2-9). As hypothesized, disease-related stressors were associated with depressive symptoms (b = 0.64, SE = 0.04, p < .001). The effect of disease-related stressors on depressive symptoms was greater among those reporting low social support (B = 0.70, SE = 0.06, p < .001) than for those reporting high social support (B = 0.46, SE = 0.06, p < .001). The negative effect of disease-related stressors on depressive symptoms was stronger for those with poorer expectations of aging (B = 0.68, SE = 0.07, p < .001), compared to those with more positive expectations (B = 0.47, SE = 0.06, p < .001). Age and difficulties affording medications were not significant moderators. DISCUSSION AND IMPLICATIONS Garnering social support and addressing low expectations for aging may prevent the detrimental effect of multimorbidity on mental health.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Dizziness is a common disorder, particularly among the elderly population. Aim of this paper was to revise the current concepts surrounding the relationship between dizziness, psychological disorders and cognitive decline. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION This is a PRISMA-compliant systematic review, including observational studies in people with dizziness. Database inception, Medline/Cochrane/Embase/Web of Science/Scopus/NHS evidence were searched until October 30, 2019. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS Overall 22 studies, and 65,730 participants were included. Eleven studies were cross-sectional, 7 cross-sectional controlled, 2 prospective case-control, 1 retrospective case series, and 1 cohort study. The persistence of vestibular impairment (for 6 months or more) was correlated to the presence of psychological disorders affecting patient's Quality of Life and causing social anxiety, particularly in some conditions such as Ménière's disease. Interestingly, vestibular loss has been also correlated to cognitive impairment, with certain vestibular dysfunctions reported to be more prevalent in cognitive impaired individuals. CONCLUSIONS The current literature suggests that there is an association between vestibular function, psychological disorders and cognitive functions. The findings from this review could be useful in informing on the need for a multidimensional diagnostic and rehabilitative programs for patients with dizziness. More studies could explore the role of counseling or behavioral therapy with an aim to reduce the perceived dizziness-related disability.

Abstract
Background In recent years, there has been an increasing number of publications on Meniere's disease. However, there are no bibliometric research on Meniere's disease. The purpose of this study was to find the focus and trends of Meniere's disease research through bibliometric approach. Methods Publications related to Meniere's disease in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) from 2002 to 2021 were collected. The bibliometric approach was used to estimate the searched data. Research foci of the studies were identified using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software. Results A total of 1,987 articles meet the inclusion criteria and are included in the study. In the past 20 years, the number of Meniere's disease publications is gradually increasing, especially in the past 3 years. The country with the largest contribution to Meniere's disease research is the United States, followed by Europe and Japan. High-frequency keywords included Meniere's disease, endolymphaic hydrops, vertigo, meniere-disease, inner ear, dizziness, symptoms, hearing, diagnosis, and tentamicin. The analyses of keyword burst direction indicate that evoked myogenic potential, MRI, and committee are emerging research hotspots. Conclusion This study provides an objective, systematic, and comprehensive analysis of Meniere's disease-related literature. In addition, we find a dramatic increase in studies in this field over the past 3 years. Evoked myogenic potentials and MRI may become the research hotspots of Meniere's disease in future. This study will help otolaryngologists, neurologists, and audiologists to clarify the research direction and potential hotspots of Meniere's disease and further help clinicians improve patients' prognosis.

Abstract
Purpose To contrast the quality of life (QoL) impairment and depression scores of patients suffering from different vestibular disorders. Methods 301 patients were examined due to vertiginous complaints at the Neurotology Centre of the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of Semmelweis University. These patients completed the Hungarian version of the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised questionnaires. Results According to neurotological examination, the distribution of the different diagnoses was as follows: Menière’s disease (n = 101), central vestibular disorders (n = 67), BPPV (n = 47), vestibular neuritis (n = 39), other unilateral peripheral vestibulopathy (n = 18), PPPD (Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness) (n = 16), vestibular migraine (n = 8), and vestibular Schwannoma (n = 5). The results of the DHI questionnaire have indicated worsened QoL in 86.4%, out of which 33.6% was defined as severe. The Beck scale has shown depressive symptoms in 42.3% of the cases, with severe symptoms in 6.3%. Significantly higher total DHI and Beck scale results were observed in patients with central vestibular disorders, vestibular migraine, PPPD and peripheral vestibulopathy, contrasted to the results of the other four diagnosis groups. The onset of the symptoms did not significantly affect the severity of QoL worsening and depression symptoms. Conclusion In this study, the QoL of vertiginous patients was worse in general, with the occurrence of depression symptoms. A difference was observed in the case of the values of patients with different vestibular disorders, indicating the importance of different factors, e.g., central vestibular compensation, behavioural strategies and psychological factors.

Abstract
Background: Vertigo and dizziness are common in community-dwelling people and can be treated in specialized multidisciplinary settings. To develop tailored interventions, however, we have to explore risk factors for favorable and unfavorable outcomes. Methods: We prospectively investigated patients with chronic vertigo and dizziness subjected to our 5-day multimodal and interdisciplinary day care treatment in the Center for Vertigo and Dizziness of Jena University Hospital, Germany. The Vertigo Severity Scale (VSS), the Body Sensations Questionnaire (BSQ), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Agoraphobic Cognitions Questionnaire (ACQ), the Mobility Inventory (MI), and the burden and intensity of dizziness (using a visual analogue scale) were assessed at baseline (n = 754) and after 6 months (n = 444). In addition, 14 Likert-scaled questions were used to quantify the change in personal attitude and behavior towards the complaints after 6 months. Results: Dizziness-related burden and intensity improved with a large effect size. The largest improvement was seen in the attitudes towards dizziness, the understanding of somatic causes, and the perceived ability to influence dizziness. However, the ability to work and to carry out professional activity was improved to a lesser extent. The overall improvement of dizziness was associated with the absence of a depressive mood, a short duration of vertigo, a lower VSS, a lower perceived intensity of vertigo, and distinct vertigo diagnoses, namely Meniere’s disease, vestibular migraine, vestibular neuritis, vestibular paroxysmia, and vestibular schwannoma. Worsening of dizziness/vertigo was associated with depressive symptoms, permanent vertigo, distinct vertigo diagnoses (central vertigo, multisensory deficit), and a higher perceived burden due to vertigo. Conclusion: The six-month outcome of patients with dizziness presented to a specialized outpatient clinic appears to be favorable. Nevertheless, people with the abovementioned risk factors at baseline have less benefit and probably need adapted and tailored vertigo interventions to improve long-term outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The current moment is characterised by deep-rooted uncertainties, such as climate change and COVID-19. Uncertainty has been reported to be associated with negative mental health outcomes, such as stress and anxiety. However, no comprehensive review on the association between uncertainty and mental health exists. AIM The aim of the current scoping review was to systematically explore and describe the literature on the link between uncertainty and mental health. METHODS A scoping review was undertaken following guidelines by Arksey and O'Malley (2005). RESULTS One hundred and one papers addressing the association between uncertainty and mental health were identified. Most were cross-sectional studies (67%) conducted in the fields of medicine or nursing (59%), in high-income countries, among adult populations (74%), and in medical settings. Substantial heterogeneity was identified in the measurements of uncertainty and mental health. Most studies (79%) reported a positive association between uncertainty and mental health problems. CONCLUSIONS Research is needed in more diverse contexts and populations. More robust designs are required to provide insight into the directionality and strength of the association between uncertainty and mental health. Few studies reported how individuals coped with uncertainty. Future studies should address the identified gaps and investigate interventions to address uncertainty and its determinants.

Abstract
There is a reciprocal relationship between vestibular and neuropsychological disorders. People with vertigo and dizziness are at higher risk of various psychiatric disorders, particularly anxiety, depression, and panic disorder. On the other hand, people with mood disorders are at higher risk of experiencing vertigo and dizziness. Vestibular information plays a crucial role in cognitive processes, especially visuo-spatial abilities. Consequently, vestibular disorders (both peripheral and central) often result in visuo-spatial deficits. In addition, lesions of the cortical and subcortical components of the vestibular system result in disorders of higher vestibular function, such as hemispatial neglect, pusher syndrome, and topographagnosia.

Abstract
: The relationship between Menière's disease and endolymphatic hydrops is ambiguous. On the one hand, the existence of cases of endolymphatic hydrops lacking the classic symptoms of Menière's disease has prompted the assertion that endolymphatic hydrops alone is insufficient to cause symptoms and drives the hypothesis that endolymphatic hydrops is a mere epiphenomenon. Yet, on the other hand, there is considerable evidence suggesting a relationship between the mechanical pressure effects of endolymphatic hydrops and resultant disordered auditory physiology and symptomatology. A critical appraisal of this topic is undertaken, including a review of key histopathologic data chiefly responsible for the epiphenomenon hypothesis. Overall, a case is made that A) the preponderance of available evidence suggests endolymphatic hydrops is likely responsible for some of the auditory symptoms of Menière's disease, particularly those that can be modulated by mechanical manipulation of the basilar membrane and cochlear microphonic; B) Menière's disease can be reasonably considered part of a larger spectrum of hydropic inner ear disease that also includes some cases that lack vertigo. C) The relationship with endolymphatic hydrops sufficiently robust to consider its presence a hallmark defining feature of Menière's disease and a sensible target for diagnostic detection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify presence and nature of Third-Party Disability experienced by Significant Others (SOs) of people with ongoing vestibular symptoms using the World Health Organisation International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (WHO-ICF) framework. DESIGN Qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted and analysed by mapping transcripts to the WHO-ICF framework. STUDY SAMPLE Ten SOs of people with ongoing vestibular symptoms were interviewed. Maximum variation sampling was used. RESULTS Data mapped to 5 codes in the body functions component of the ICF, highlighting psychological impact on the SO and a broad range of negative emotions; 28 codes in the activities and participations component, showing impaired ability across several areas of the SO's life including social life, communication, general tasks and maintaining domestic balance; and 19 codes in the environmental factors component, highlighting the importance of supportive relationships and functioning health systems. CONCLUSIONS Third-Party Disability was identified, including psychological impacts on the SO, interruption to their daily lives and increased domestic responsibility. Health professionals may lessen disability by encouraging support networks and practicing family-centred care.

In order to better understand disability and anxiety in patients with vertigo, in the present study we aimed to investigate the correlation between disability and anxiety in four different types of diseases causing vertigo. Moreover, the difference between the observed disabilities in these etiologies of vertigo was studied. Materials and methods In this analytic cross-sectional design, 130 patients (52 male, 78 female; age range: 18-75 years) with dizziness/vertigo who were referred to our balance clinic participated. All patients underwent a detailed diagnostic procedure including neurological, clinical, and otological evaluations. Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were used to assess handicap and anxiety, respectively. Results There were no significant differences in "total DHI" and DHI subcomponent scores among different study populations (p>0.05). In terms of the BAI score, the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test indicated no significant differences among the four groups (p=0.158). Our results exhibited a significant positive correlation between the BAI and "total DHI" and "DHI subcomponents" values. Conclusion The degree of disability and anxiety is not different between patients with Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), Meniere's disease (MD), unilateral weakness (UW), and central causes. The significant positive correlation between the BAI and "total DHI" and "DHI subcomponents" values shows that the possibility of anxiety in patients with vertigo should not be ignored.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to understand and describe the experiences of patients with Meniere disease. METHODS Data were collected from February 19, 2019, to February 5, 2020, through individual in-depth interviews with 13 Meniere patients. Verbatim transcripts were analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological analysis. RESULTS The experiences of patients with Meniere disease were clustered into the following four themes from 22 meaning units: 1) Complex unfamiliar symptoms that shatter both balance of the body and peace of the heart; 2) A disease that health professionals and medical treatment cannot cure; 3) Suffering hardships that cannot be understood by non-Meniere's sufferers; and 4) Making daily efforts to become healthier. Meniere's symptoms are life-shattering and depressing because they are neither visible nor easily curable. Over time, as they accepted the reality of living with the disease, the participants would shift their focus from complete symptomatic cure to leading a healthy and more balanced life. CONCLUSION This study shows that Meniere disease has a pervasive impact on all aspects of the patients' lives. Patients are prone to experiencing restrictions in their social functioning and activities. They also experience psychosocial problems due to the unseen nature of their symptoms. This study elucidates the experiences of Meniere patients and the need for nursing intervention to help improve their quality of life and ability to self-manage. Lastly, this study shows the need for a coordinated interdisciplinary approach to raising public awareness of the disease.

The underlying etiology of MD is not completely clear, yet it has been associated with inner ear fluid volume increases, culminating in episodic ear symptoms (vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus, and aural fullness). Physical examination findings are often unremarkable, and audiometric testing may or may not show low- to midfrequency sensorineural hearing loss. Imaging, if performed, is also typically normal. The goals of MD treatment are to prevent or reduce vertigo severity and frequency; relieve or prevent hearing loss, tinnitus, and aural fullness; and improve quality of life. Treatment approaches to MD are many, and approaches typically include modifications of lifestyle factors (eg, diet) and medical, surgical, or a combination of therapies. PURPOSE The primary purpose of this clinical practice guideline is to improve the quality of the diagnostic workup and treatment outcomes of MD. To achieve this purpose, the goals of this guideline are to use the best available published scientific and/or clinical evidence to enhance diagnostic accuracy and appropriate therapeutic interventions (medical and surgical) while reducing unindicated diagnostic testing and/or imaging.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to delineate the causal relationship between Ménière's disease and depression. DESIGN Two longitudinal follow-up studies. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The 2002-2013 Korean National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort was used. In study I, Ménière's disease patients were 1:4 matched with the control I group for age group, sex, income group and region of residence, and the occurrence of depression was observed. In study II, the depression patients were 1:4 matched with the control II group for the same variables, and the occurrence of Ménière's disease was observed. The stratified Cox proportional hazard model was used. Subgroup analyses were performed according to age and sex. RESULTS In study I, 6.9% (420/6044) of the Ménière's disease patients and 3.7% (885/24 176) of the control I participants experienced depression. The adjusted hazard ratio (HR) of Ménière's disease for depression was 1.94 (95% confidence intervals [CI] = 1.73-2.18, P < .001). In study II, 1.6% (490/31 649) of the depression patients and 1.0% (1240/126 596) of the control II participants were diagnosed with Ménière's disease. The adjusted HR of depression for Ménière's disease was 1.58 (95% CI = 1.43-1.76, P < .001). All age and sex subgroups demonstrated higher HRs of Ménière's disease for depression (study I) and depression for Ménière's disease (study II). CONCLUSION Ménière's disease patients showed an increased likelihood of depression. Conversely, depression patients showed an elevated likelihood of Ménière's disease.

Abstract
AbstractBackgroundMénière's disease is a debilitating chronic peripheral vestibular disorder associated with psychiatric co-morbidities, notably depression.MethodsDatabase searches were performed to identify studies that assessed depression in Ménière's disease. Metrics used to diagnose depression were extracted, along with the prevalence of depression in each study.ResultsFifteen studies from 8 different countries reported on 6587 patients. The weighted average age was 55.3 years (range, 21–88 years). Depression was measured by eight different scales, with Zung's Self-Rating Depression Scale used most often. A weighted proportion of 45.9 per cent of patients (confidence interval = 28.9–63.3) were depressed. Weighted averages (± standard deviations) of Beck's Depression Inventory and the Illness Behavior Questionnaire – Dysphoria were 8.5 ± 7.9 and 2.4 ± 1.7, respectively.ConclusionThe prevalence of depression in patients with Ménière's disease is nearly 50 per cent. Treating otolaryngologists should have a low threshold to screen and refer appropriately. Identifying and treating depression should allow for improvement of overall quality of life in patients with Ménière's disease.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Ménière's Disease (MD) is a chronic, non-life threatening inner ear disease, with attacks of disabling vertigo, progressive hearing loss, and tinnitus as the major symptoms. All three symptoms, separately or in combination, cause great distress and have a considerable impact on the quality of life of the patients. The aims of this study were to develop a disease-specific quality of life survey for patients with MD and to analyze the relationships between the audiovestibular findings and the survey. MATERIALS AND METHODS Following Ear-Nose-Throat examination and audiovestibular tests, the Dokuz Eylül University Meniere's Disease Disability Scale (DEU-MDDS) and Turkish version of the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI-T) were administered to 93 patients with definite MD. Reliability and validity analyses of the scale were performed. RESULTS There were 45 (48.4%) male and 48 (51.6%) female patients and the mean age was 48.9±12.1 years. Cronbach's alpha was 0.92 and intraclass correlation coefficients of the DEU-MMDS were significant (p<0.001). Results of the Goodness of Fit Statistics showed that the expression levels of the items were high and the correlation coefficients of each item with the scale were sufficient. There was a statistically significant correlation between DHI-T scores and MDDS. DEU-MDDS was not related to the vestibular tests, age or gender (p>0.05). CONCLUSION The MDDS is a valid and reliable scale as a disease-specific quality of life questionnaire for patients with MD.

Abstract
Purpose: To explore the meanings of Ménière's disease from the perspective of people living with this condition and to understand what was considered significant and important in participants' everyday lives.Materials and methods: Four women with Ménière's disease participated in face-to-face semi-structured interviews. Accounts were recorded, transcribed, and analysed using an iterative process integral to Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis.Results: Three interconnected themes were identified. "You have no control whatsoever" conveys participants' perceptions of vertigo as having a disruptive and ongoing impact on physical and psychosocial function in everyday life. "Ménière's takes away your life completely" describes Ménière's as impinging on participants' most meaningful activities and relationships, and as restricting their ability to live their lives on their own terms. "You get on with life" recounts participants' efforts to refashion their lives whilst living with this condition and manage its most harmful effects. The psychosocial impact of living with Ménière's disease and its relevance to rehabilitation is discussed.Conclusions: Ménière's disease has an enduring physical and psychosocial impact. Clinicians who acknowledge and respond to an individual's subjective experience of their condition may be key to their engagement in therapy. Service users should have a voice in health service design and delivery.Implications for rehabilitationMénière's disease is a long-term disabling condition that not only impacts on physical and psychosocial functioning but also restricts quality of life through stigmatisation.Fear of triggering an attack of vertigo may prevent people with Ménière's disease from engaging with rehabilitation.Therapists who adopt a biopsychosocial approach and who recognise patients' efforts to control their symptoms as a positive form of resistance may be better equipped to empathetically support patients to engage in new activities that may be vital to improving their lives.

Abstract
Despite the frequent observation that vertigo and dizziness (VD) disorders may trigger or exacerbate secondary psychiatric comorbidities, there is limited understanding of the mechanisms underlying this development. To address this gap, we investigated whether symptom-related fears and cognitions as indicated by questionnaire-based measures are mediators of the longitudinal effect of VD symptoms on anxiety and depression after 1 year. We analyzed data from a large study with patients of a treatment center specialized in vertigo (N = 210). Simple and multiple parallel mediation models strengthened our hypothesis that fear of bodily sensations and cognitions about these symptoms play a mediating role in the relationship between VD symptoms and psychopathology at follow-up after baseline scores of the outcome were controlled for. Results are discussed within a cognitive theory framework and point to the potential benefits of interventions that modify symptom-related beliefs and fears via cognitive psychotherapy in this therapeutically underserved population.

Abstract
Meniere's disease (MD) is a disorder of the inner ear that causes vertigo attacks, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus and aural fullness. The aetiology of MD is multifactorial. A characteristic sign of MD is endolymphatic hydrops (EH), a disorder in which excessive endolymph accumulates in the inner ear and causes damage to the ganglion cells. In most patients, the clinical symptoms of MD present after considerable accumulation of endolymph has occurred. However, some patients develop symptoms in the early stages of EH. The reason for the variability in the symptomatology is unknown and the relationship between EH and the clinical symptoms of MD requires further study. The diagnosis of MD is based on clinical symptoms but can be complemented with functional inner ear tests, including audiometry, vestibular-evoked myogenic potential testing, caloric testing, electrocochleography or head impulse tests. MRI has been optimized to directly visualize EH in the cochlea, vestibule and semicircular canals, and its use is shifting from the research setting to the clinic. The management of MD is mainly aimed at the relief of acute attacks of vertigo and the prevention of recurrent attacks. Therapeutic options are based on empirical evidence and include the management of risk factors and a conservative approach as the first line of treatment. When medical treatment is unable to suppress vertigo attacks, intratympanic gentamicin therapy or endolymphatic sac decompression surgery is usually considered. Abstract
Menière's disease (MD) is a chronic multifactorial disorder of the inner ear characterized by episodic vestibular symptoms associated with sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus, and aural pressure. Epidemiologic and genomic evidence supports a genetic susceptibility with multiple biochemical pathways involved, including the endocrine system, innate immune response, and autonomic nervous system. Allergens, infectious agents, vascular events, or genetic factors could modify inner-ear homeostasis and trigger MD. The diagnosis of MD is based on clinical criteria and requires the observation of an episodic vertigo syndrome associated with low- to medium-frequency sensorineural hearing loss and fluctuating aural symptoms (hearing loss, tinnitus, and/or fullness) in the affected ear. Headache is also found during the attacks and bilateral involvement is found in 25-40% of cases. Audiologic and vestibular assessment is recommended to monitor the clinical course. The treatment of MD is symptomatic to obtain relief of vestibular episodes and preventive to limit hearing loss progression. Treatment options include sodium restriction, betahistine, intratympanic gentamicin, or steroids and eventually surgery, such as cochlear implantation.

Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging enhances the clinical diagnosis of Menière's disease. This is accomplished by in vivo detection of endolymphatic hydrops, which are graded using different semi-quantitative grading systems. We evaluated an established, semi-quantitative endolymphatic hydrops score and with a quantitative method for volumetric assessment of the endolymphatic size. 11 patients with Menière's disease and 2 healthy subjects underwent high resolution endolymphatic hydrops 3 Tesla MRI with highly T2 weighted FLAIR and T2DRIVE sequences. The degree of endolymphatic hydrops was rated semi-quantitatively and compared to the results of 3D-volumetry. Moreover, the grade of endolymphatic hydrops was correlated with pure tone audiometry. Semi-quantitative grading and volumetric evaluation of the endolymphatic hydrops are in accordance (r = 0.92) and the grade of endolymphatic hydrops correlates with pure tone audiometry. Patients with a sickness duration of ≥ 30 months showed a significant higher total labyrinth fluid volume (p = 0.03). Fast, semi-quantitative evaluation of endolymphatic hydrops is highly reliable compared to quantitative/volumetric assessment. Endolymphatic space is significantly higher in patients with longer sickness duration.

Abstract
Mal de Debarquement Syndrome is a neurological disorder of motion perception, triggered by external motion. This study aimed to determine the importance of psychosocial factors in relation to depression and quality of life in Mal de Debarquement Syndrome. A total of 66 participants with self-reported Mal de Debarquement Syndrome completed quality-of-life, symptom severity, stigma, depression, and illness intrusiveness measurements in this naturalistic correlational study. Mal de Debarquement Syndrome was associated with high levels of depression and illness intrusiveness. Illness intrusiveness mediated between stigma and quality of life; also the level of stigma moderated the effect of illness intrusiveness on quality of life. Targeted interventions aimed at alleviating psychological distress may improve quality of life in Mal de Debarquement Syndrome.
