Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Radix Salviae miltiorrhizae, also known as Danshen in Chinese, effectively activates the blood and resolves stasis. Total salvianolic acids (SA) is the main active ingredient of Danshen, and related preparations, such as salvianolate injection are commonly used clinically to treat myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI). However, the potential targets and key active ingredients of SA have not been sufficiently investigated. AIM OF THE STUDY This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of action of SA in treating MIRI. MATERIALS AND METHODS Network pharmacology and molecular docking techniques were used to predict SA targets against MIRI. The key acting pathway of SA were validated by performing experiments in a rat MIRI model. RESULTS Twenty potential ingredients and 54 targets of SA in treating MIRI were identified. Ingredient-target-pathway network analysis revealed that salvianolic acid B and rosmarinic acid had the highest degree value. Pathway enrichment analysis showed that SA may regulate MIRI through the IL-17 signaling pathway, and this result was confirmed in the rat MIRI experiment. CONCLUSION The results of this study indicate that SA may protect MIRI by regulating the IL-17 pathway.

Abstract
Myofibroblasts activation intensively contributes to cardiac fibrosis with undefined mechanism. Salvianolic acid A (SAA) is a phenolic component derived from Salvia miltiorrhiza with antifibrotic potency. This study aimed to interrogate the inhibitory effects and underlying mechanism of SAA on myofibroblasts activation and cardiac fibrosis. Antifibrotic effects of SAA were evaluated in mouse myocardial infarction (MI) model and in vitro myofibroblasts activation model. Metabolic regulatory effects and mechanism of SAA were determined using bioenergetic analysis and cross-validated by multiple metabolic inhibitors and siRNA or plasmid targeting Ldha. Finally, Akt/GSK-3β-related upstream regulatory mechanisms were investigated by immunoblot, q-PCR, and cross-validated by specific inhibitors. SAA inhibited cardiac fibroblasts-to-myofibroblasts transition, suppressed collage matrix proteins expression, and effectively attenuated MI-induced collagen deposition and cardiac fibrosis. SAA attenuated myofibroblasts activation and cardiac fibrosis by inhibiting LDHA-driven abnormal aerobic glycolysis. Mechanistically, SAA inhibited Akt/GSK-3β axis and downregulated HIF-1α expression by promoting its degradation via a noncanonical route, and therefore restrained HIF-1α-triggered Ldha gene expression. SAA is an effective component for treating cardiac fibrosis by diminishing LDHA-driven glycolysis during myofibroblasts activation. Targeting metabolism of myofibroblasts might occupy a potential therapeutic strategy for cardiac fibrosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of Sodium tanshinone ⅡA sulfonate injection (STS) in the treatment of unstable angina pectoris (UAP). METHODS CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, CBM, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Embase were searched by computer. The research covers the clinical randomized controlled trials of STS in the treatment of unstable angina pectoris published from the establishment of the library to January 31, 2023. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data and evaluated the risk of research bias, and then conducted meta-analysis with RevMan5.3 software. RESULTS A total of 37 randomized controlled trials were included, involving 3926 patients in total. Meta analysis results showed that, compared with conventional western medicine alone, STS combined with conventional western medicine could reduce the frequency (SMD = -2.61, 95%CI[-4.27, -0.96], P = 0.002) and duration (SMD = -4.01, 95%CI[-6.18, -1.84], P = 0.0003) of angina pectoris, improve ECG efficacy (OR = 3.61, 95%CI[2.79, 4.68], P<0.00001) and clinical symptom efficacy (OR = 4.02, 95%CI[3.32, 4.87], P<0.00001), reduce TG(SMD = -0.60, 95%CI[-1.04, -0.16], P = 0.008), TC(SMD = -3.86, 95%CI[-6.37, -1.34], P = 0.003), and LDL-C(SMD = -1.54, 95%CI[-2.67, -0.42], P = 0.007), decrease plasma viscosity(SMD = -1.02, 95%CI[-1.58, -0.47], P<0.0003), whole blood low shear viscosity(SMD = -0.85, 95%CI[-1.21, -0.49], P<0.00001), whole blood high shear viscosity(SMD = -0.82, 95%CI[-1.44, -0.20], P = 0.009), and erythrocyte aggregation index(SMD = -1.00, 95%CI[-1.75, -0.25], P = 0.009), and bring down CRP(SMD = -1.39, 95%CI[-1.91, -0.86], P<0.00001). The incidence of adverse reactions in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group (OR = 2.26, 95%CI[1.06, 4.85], P = 0.04). Neither of the two groups suffered from abnormal liver and kidney function during the study process. CONCLUSION STS combined with routine treatment has a definite clinical efficacy and certain safety in the treatment of UAP, but it needs to be further confirmed by high-quality and low-bias randomized controlled trials in the future.

Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is closely associated with periarticular osteopenia and leads to a high risk of generalized osteoporosis. Although glucocorticoid (GC) treatment ameliorates joint degradation and manages inflammation in RA, GC application may induce further bone quality deterioration in RA patients. Current treatments for RA lack relevant strategies for the prevention and treatment of osteopenia in RA. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether salvianolate treatment ameliorated osteopenia in prednisone-treated RA rats. Lewis rats with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) were administered prednisone (PDN) or PDN plus salvianolate (PDN+Sal) treatment for 90 days. The effects of Sal were investigated in PDN-treated CIA rats. To further evaluate the effects of Sal under inflammatory conditions, we investigated the effects of Sal treatment on the TNF-α-induced inflammatory response in MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts. Bone histomorphometry, bone mineral density (BMD), bone biomechanical properties, micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR and western blot analyses were performed to evaluate the effects of Sal. The results demonstrated that RA induced bone loss and bone quality deterioration, with high bone turnover in CIA rats. PDN+Sal treatment significantly increased BMD and trabecular/cortical bone mass, suppressed inflammation, and improved bone biomechanical properties compared to CIA control and PDN treatment. PDN+Sal treatment significantly suppressed bone resorption and the RANKL and RANKL/OPG ratios compared to PDN. PDN+Sal and PDN treatment significantly inhibited TNF-α by 82 and 83%, respectively, and both suppressed inflammation in CIA rats. However, there was no significant difference between PDN+Sal and PDN treatment alone in regard to bone formation parameters or the management of inflammation and arthropathy. Sal significantly increased Osterix, OPN, and Col1a1 while decreasing RANKL, TRAF6, and TRAIL gene in TNF-α-induced MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts. Sal significantly increased Osterix, OPN and RUNX2 while decreasing NF-κB, TRAF6 and IL-1β protein in TNF-α-induced MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts. The results suggested that salvianolate treatment ameliorated osteopenia and improved bone quality in prednisone-treated RA rats, and the potential mechanism may be related to the regulation of the RANKL/RANK/OPG signaling pathway, TRAIL-TRAF6-NFκB signal axis, and downregulation of inflammatory cytokines. Salvianolate could be used as a promising supplemental therapeutic strategy to ameliorate osteopenia and improve bone quality in GC-treated RA patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore clinical efficacy of acanthopanax injection for the treatment of acute cerebral infarction and its effect on the changes in endothelin-1 (ET-1), flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) and nitric oxide (NO) levels. METHODS A total of 120 patients with acute cerebral infarction were selected for prospective study. The patients with conventional treatment regimen were the control group while the observation group was treated acanthopanax injection in addition to the treatment given to the control group. Both groups contained 60 patients. After 14 days of treatment, we observed the clinical effects and measured ET-1, NO, FMD, serum C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS), Mini-mental state examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) in both groups. RESULTS The total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P=0.020). The improvement of ET-1, FMD, NO, CRP, TNF-α and IL-6 in the observation group was superior to that of the control group (P<0.05). The scores of NIHSS, MMSE and MoCA in the observation group were better than those of the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION The treatment of acute cerebral infarction with acanthopanax injection may enhance the clinical efficacy, improve vascular endothelial function, reduce inflammation and nerve damage, and improve cognitive function.

Abstract
Salvianolic acid B is the main active ingredient in salvianolate injection, which is produced by extracting danshen, the most commonly used Chinese herbal medicine for cardiovascular treatment. Clinically, salvianolate injection and aspirin are commonly combined to treat coronary heart diseases in patients with stable angina. To support clinical studies on drug-drug interactions (DDIs) between salvianolate injection and aspirin, a rapid and sensitive UPLC-MS/MS method for the simultaneous determination of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), its metabolite salicylic acid, and salvianolic acid B in human plasma was developed. The analytes and internal standard were extracted from the acidified plasma by liquid-liquid extraction with ethyl acetate and then separated by gradient elution with acetonitrile/0.5% formic acid in water on a C18 column. Salvianolic acid B, acetylsalicylic acid, and salicylic acid were quantified in multiple-reaction monitoring mode with negative ion electrospray ionization. The method was fully validated according to the current regulatory guidance for bioanalysis. Calibration curves in the range 5–6000 ng/mL, all with correlation coefficients greater than 0.99, were established using linear regression models for salvianolic acid B and acetylsalicylic acid and a quadratic model for salicylic acid. The validated method was successfully used to measure salvianolic acid B, acetylsalicylic acid, and salicylic acid concentrations in human plasma samples from 16 patients to observe the pharmacokinetic changes caused by DDIs.

Abstract
Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen), as an important traditional Chinese medicinal plant, has been used in China for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases for hundreds of years. Salvianolic acids (salvianolic acid A and salvianolic acid B) as the most abundant water-soluble component extracted from Salvia miltiorrhiza have attracted more and more attention from cardiovascular scientists due to its comprehensive cardiovascular actions. In vivo and in vitro studies have rendered salvianolic acid an excellent drug candidate for the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. In this review, we surveyed the protective effects of salvianolic acid A and salvianolic acid B against cardiovascular diseases and the pharmacological basis, providing a strong scientific rationale for elucidating the important role of Salvia miltiorrhiza in cardiovascular therapy. More importantly, we also hope to provide new inspiration and perspectives on the development and innovation of small-molecule cardiovascular drugs based on salvianolic acid.

Abstract
Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience in many diseases and is often caused by intense or damaging stimuli. Pain negatively affects the quality of life and increases high health expenditures. Drugs with analgesic properties are commonly used to relieve pain, but these Western medications could be overwhelmed by side effects including tolerance and addiction. Herbal medicines may provide alternative measures for pain management. In this review paper, after introduction of Chinese medicine theory and treatment modality, emphasis is placed on the application of Chinese herbs and herbal formulations in pain management. Three of the most commonly used herbs, i.e., Corydalis yanhusuo, Ligusticum chuanxiong, and Aconitum carmichaeli, are reviewed. Subsequently, using this ancient medical remedy, Chinese herbal formulation in treating common medical conditions associated with pain, such as headache/migraine, chest pain, abdominal pain, low back pain, neuropathic pain, osteoarthritis, and cancer pain, is presented. Chinese herbal medicines could be considered as a complementary and integrative approach in the modern armamentarium in combating pain.

Abstract
Danshen, the dried root of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge, is a common medicinal herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which has been used for the treatment of a number of diseases for thousands of years. More than 2000 years ago, the Chinese early pharmacy monograph "Shennong Materia Medica" recorded that Danshen could be used for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, cardiovascular diseases, certain gynecological diseases, etc. Since then, Danshen has been widely used clinically in many different prescriptions for many different diseases, especially for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Nowadays, many pharmacological studies about the water-soluble components from Danshen have been reported, especially salvianolic acids. It turned out that salvianolic acids showed strong anti-lipid peroxidation and anti-thrombic activities, and among them, SalAA and SalAB were the most potent. This review focused on the achievements in research of salvianolic acids regarding their bioactivities and pharmacological effects. These studies not only shed light on the water-soluble active components of Danshen and their mechanisms at the molecular level, but also provided theoretical information for the development of new medicines from Danshen for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, inflammatory diseases, metabolic diseases, etc.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A growing number of studies suggest that Gualou Xiebai Banxia (GLXBBX) decoction, a well-known Chinese herbal formula, has beneficial effects on eliminating angina pectoris symptoms and improving condition of stable angina pectoris (SAP) patients. However, whether this treatment is effective and safe for SAP or not, evidence supporting the effectiveness and safety of this treatment is still incomplete. Besides, there is lack of systematic review to assess the detailed situation (including risk of bias and methodology) of current related clinical studies. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of GLXBBX in treating SAP. METHODS The major databases (MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Scientific Journals Database (VIP) Database, Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM), Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed), and Wanfang Database) were searched from inception to March 2019. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of GLXBBX alone or combined with conventional drugs against conventional drugs for SAP were identified. Two assessors reviewed each trial independently. The methodological quality of the eligible studies was evaluated according to the Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias. Both the data extraction and the literature quality screening evaluation were conducted independently by 2 researchers. RESULT Totally 17 clinical RCTs were included in this study, involving 1676 patients. Due to the high probability of bias of the included studies, it was inappropriate to undertake a meta-analysis. Thus, we only conducted a systematic review and mainly discussed the methodology and limitation of the included studies. CONCLUSION Although the current evidence prompted that GLXBBX might benefit SAP patients in improvement of angina pectoris, ECG, and blood lipid on a certain extent, this systematic review revealed no definite conclusion about the application of GLXBBX for SAP due to the poor methodological quality, high risk of bias, and inadequate reporting on clinical data. More rigorous, multicenter, sufficient-sample, and double-blind randomized clinical trials are warranted.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical characteristics and biomarkers in patients with coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMVD) and to compare them with patients with obstructive coronary artery disease (OCAD). Methods We conducted a single-center, hospital-based, observational, descriptive, comparative, clinical study of 40 patients, including 20 patients with CMVD and 20 with OCAD. We assessed laboratory biomarkers (low-density lipoprotein [LDL], high-density lipoprotein [HDL], red blood cell distribution width [RDW], brain natriuretic protein [BNP], troponin I), and PET/CT coronary flow reserve was performed. Results The mean coronary flow reserve (CFR) in patients with CMVD was 1.96±0.55. Mean low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were significantly higher in the CMVD subgroup (2.53±0.63 mmol/L) compared with the OCAD subgroup (1.76±0.97 mmol/L). Logistic regression analysis identified LDL-C as a predictor for the development of CMVD (odds ratio, 5.24). Conclusion It is difficult to differentiate between OCAD and CMVD based on the patient’s medical history, clinical characteristics, and coronary angiography results. Further investigations may be needed to allow an accurate diagnosis. CFR measurements based on non-invasive positron emission tomography/computed tomography may aid the diagnosis of CMVD. We also identified LDL-C as a predictor for the development of CMVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Compound danshen dripping pills (CDDP) and trimetazidine (TMZ) are commonly used in the treatment of unstable angina pectoris (UAP). Currently, the combination of CDDP and TMZ has been widely used for UAP. However, the clinical evidence CDDP combined with TMZ for treating UAP is not sufficient. METHODS We searched for randomized controlled trials testing CDDP combined with TMZ for the treatment of UAP in Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure database, VIP database, Chinese Biological and Medicine database, Wangfang database, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. Extracted data are analyzed using Review Manager 5.3 software. The quality evaluation, forest plots and funnel plots will be conducted by RevMan5.3 software. Moreover, subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis will also be completed by RevMan5.3. RESULTS This systematic review will provide powerful clinical evidence of combination CDDP and TMZ for treating UAP. CONCLUSIONS This systematic review will be provided up-to-date clinical evidence to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of CDDP combined with TMZ for the treatment of parents with UAP.Registration Number: PROSPERO CRD42019143100.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Shexiang Baoxin Pills (SBP) is widely used for the treatment of unstable angina pectoris (UAP) in China. However, the clinical evidence on the efficacy of SBP for the treatment of UAP is not well concluded. METHODS Seven electronic databases will be searched for eligible studies: MEDLINE, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, Wanfang database, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure database, VIP database, and Chinese Biological and Medicine database. Data of included studies will be extracted, and quality will be evaluated. Data synthesis will be performed using RevMan software. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis will also be carried out. Publication bias will be evaluated using funnel plot if included studies are sufficient. RESULTS This systemic review and meta-analysis will provide synthesized result of clinical efficacy of SBP for the treatment of UAP. CONCLUSIONS This systemic review and meta-analysis will provide high-quality evidence on the clinical efficacy of SBP for the treatment of UAP. REGISTRATION PEROSPERO CRD42019124668.

Abstract
Bioactive chemical constitutes from the root of Salvia miltiorrhiza classified in two major groups, viz., liposoluble tanshinones and water-soluble phenolics. Tanshinone IIA is a major lipid-soluble compound having promising health benefits. The in vivo and in vitro studies showed that the tanshinone IIA and salvianolate have a wide range of cardiovascular and other pharmacological effects, including antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, endothelial protective, myocardial protective, anticoagulation, vasodilation, and anti-atherosclerosis, as well as significantly help to reduce proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells. In addition, some of the clinical studies reported that the S. miltiorrhiza preparations in combination with Western medicine were more effective for treatment of various cardiovascular diseases including angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and pulmonary heart diseases. In this review, we demonstrated the potential applications of S. miltiorrhiza, including pharmacological effects of salvianolate, tanshinone IIA, and its water-soluble derivative, like sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate. Moreover, we also provided details about the clinical applications of S. miltiorrhiza preparations in controlling the cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Stable angina pectoris (SAP) is one of the most common symptoms of coronary heart disease. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has been used to treat SAP increasingly due to its less side effects. The subject of this study is to explore the effectiveness and safety of Gualou Xiebai Banxia (GLXBBX) decoction as a kind of CHM for SAP. METHODS A systematic literature search for articles up to June 2018 will be performed in following electronic databases: PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journals Database, Chinese Biomedical Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed), and Wanfang Database. Inclusion criteria are randomized controlled trials of modified GLXBBX decoction applied on patients with SAP. The primary outcome measures will be coronary heart disease-related clinical evaluation (frequency of acute attack angina, severity of angina pectoris, electrocardiographic changes, and amount of nitroglycerin) and adverse events. RevMan 5.3 software will be used for data synthesis, sensitivity analysis, metaregression, subgroup analysis, and risk of bias assessment. A funnel plot will be developed to evaluate reporting bias and Egger tests will be used to assess funnel plot symmetries. We will use the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system to assess the quality of evidence. RESULTS This systematic review study will provide an evidence of GLXBBX decoction for SAP. CONCLUSION The study will give an explicit evidence to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of GLXBBX decoction for SAP. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION This systematic review does not require ethics approval and will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD 42018094538.

It is, therefore, important to conduct cost-consequence analysis to demonstrate whether salvianolate injection is associated with outcome improvement and cost containment. The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the cost-consequence of salvianolate injection for the treatment of coronary heart disease by combining salvianolate injection with conventional treatment from a societal perspective. Methods We retrospectively studied hospitalized patients with CHD from August 2011 to December 2015 by using electronic medical record database. Patients who received salvianolate injection combined with conventional treatment were selected as exposed group, while those who received conventional treatment alone were selected as unexposed group. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was used to balance the characteristics of patients. After PSM, we evaluated hospital stay, total nitrates dosage, total medical costs, and subcategories costs. Patients with chronic ischemic heart disease were analyzed as a highly selected subcohort. Results For the overall group, hospital stay was significantly decreased by 2.9 days (P < 0.05) and total nitrates dosage was significantly decreased by 172.4 mg (P < 0.05) in exposed group; cost savings of pharmacy cost, examination cost, laboratory cost, operation cost and treatment was observed as significant (at P < 0.05); and the additional expenditure of Chinese patent drug (1174.9 CNY) was less than the saving of total medical costs (2636.4 CNY). For chronic ischemic heart disease subcohort, compared with unexposed group, significant decreases were also found in hospital stay and total nitrates dosage (P < 0.05); cost savings were significant (P < 0.05) for exposed group in terms of total medical costs (4339.5 CNY) and subcategories costs (including pharmacy cost, examination cost, operation cost and treatment cost); and the additional expenditure of Chinese patent drug (1189.3 CNY) was less than the saving of total medical costs. Conclusion Compared with conventional treatment for the treatment of CHD, combination of salvianolate injection and conventional treatment was associated with a reduction in hospital stay and total nitrates dosage. The acquisition cost of Chinese patent drug (including salvianolate injection) was offset by a higher reduction in total medical costs, especially for chronic ischemic heart disease. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess whether an adjunctive therapy of Sodium Tanshinone II A Sulfonate Injection (STS) is effective and safe in improving clinical outcomes in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS A literature search was conducted through PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Knowledge Infrastructure Databases (CNKI), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (SinoMed), Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database (VIP) and Wanfang Database up to August 2017. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing STS with placebo or no additional treatments on the basis of standard conventional medicine therapies were included. The outcomes were all-cause mortality, major acute cardiovascular events (MACEs), cardiac function and inflammatory factors. The risk of bias assessment according to the Cochrane Handbook was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the included trials. Revman 5.3 software was used for data analyses. RESULTS A total of 22 RCTs involving 1,873 participants were included. All of the trials used STS as adjunctive treatment to standard conventional medicine therapy. Due to the poor quality of methodologies of most trials, only limited evidence showed that a combination of STS with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or thrombolytic therapy (TT) might be more effective on reduction of all cause death rate than TT alone [risk ratio (RR) 0.25, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.07 to 0.87] or PCI alone (RR 0.42, 95% CI 0.04 to 4.36). The results of 6 trials comparing STS plus TT with TT alone showed that the addition of STS significantly reduced the incidence of cardiac shock (RR 0.35, 95% CI 0.14 to 0.86), heart failure (RR 0.41, 95% CI 0.20 to 0.83) and arrhythmia (RR 0.21, 95% CI 0.12 to 0.46). STS combined with TT also showed a superior effect on cardiac function and inflammatory factor. No severe adverse event was reported related to STS. CONCLUSIONS As an adjunctive therapy, STS combined with standard conventional medicine seems to be more effective on all-cause mortality or MACEs than conventional medicine treatment alone with less side effects. However, we cannot make a firm conclusion due to low quality of inclusion trials. Well-designed trials with high methodological quality are needed to validate the effect of STS for CHD patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chinese herbal injections (CHIs) have been commonly used in the treatment of unstable angina pectoris (UAP) in China. However, there is no consensus or evidence on how to select CHIs for patients with UAP. The choice often depends on the personal experience or preference of clinician. This study aims to compare the effect of different CHIs for UAP using Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA). METHODS A systematic search will be conducted in PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Data from inception to February 2018. We will include randomized controlled trials (RCT) regarding CHIs in the treatment of UAP. Quality of included RCTs will be assessed according to the Cochrane Handbook 5.1.0. A Bayesian NMA will be performed with WinBUGS 14 to compare the efficacy of different CHIs. GRADE will be used to assess the quality of evidence. RESULTS The results of this NMA will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. CONCLUSION Our study will generate evidence for CHIs in the treatment of UAP and help clinicians make more accurate therapeutic schedule. In addition, it might provide suggestions for Chinese medicine clinical practice or guideline.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to explore the related metabolic biomarkers and to observe the effects of Yangxin Decoction (YXD) on plasma metabolism of patients with unstable angina (UA). METHODS In total, 10 patients with UA (intervention group) and 10 healthy participants (control group) were recruited for this study from January 2009 to December 2010. Plasma samples from both groups were analyzed using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Principle component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares (PLS) were used to explore the correlations between metabolic markers in patients with UA. RESULTS The LC-MS results indicated that the serum levels of 5 potential metabolic markers, namely, ceramide, glycocholic acid, allocholic acid, lithocholic acid, and leukotriene (LT) B4, were significantly higher in the intervention group than those in the control group. CONCLUSION The results of this study demonstrated potential metabolic markers that can be used to distinguish and diagnose patients with UA.
