Abstract
AIMS This review aims to assess the effect of comprehensive nursing care on liver cancer patients undergoing interventional therapy in China. METHODS In accordance with PRISMA guidelines, we reviewed randomized controlled trials and observational studies assessing the effect of comprehensive nursing care against standard care on liver cancer patients undergoing specific interventional therapies in China, including PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL and CINAHL till June 2023. Data synthesis was conducted using a random-effects model and reported as pooled odds ratio (OR) or mean difference (MD) or standardized mean differences (SMD). RESULTS Ten Chinese studies with 1682 participants were evaluated. Comprehensive nursing care significantly enhanced patient outcomes in liver cancer treatment. Quality of life improved markedly (OR: 0.16, 95% CI: 0.06-0.41). Notable reductions were observed in anxiety (MD: -8.96, 95% CI: -11.52 to -6.40) and depression (MD: -9.47, 95% CI: -11.79 to -7.14). Patients also experienced increased physical (SMD: 1.70, 95% CI: 1.15-2.25), social (SMD: 1.65, 95% CI: 1.14-2.16) and activity scores (SMD: 1.94, 95% CI: 1.49-2.39), alongside a decrease in post-treatment complications (OR: 0.28, 95% CI: 0.21-0.37), demonstrating the multifaceted benefits of comprehensive care. CONCLUSION Comprehensive nursing care may improve patient outcomes in liver cancer treatment, offering potential benefits in reducing the side effects of interventional therapy.

[PMID: 38577082 PMCID: PMC10989342 DOI: 10.4240/wjgs.v16.i3.833] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 11/23/2023] [Revised: 12/22/2023] [Accepted: 01/30/2024] [Indexed: 03/22/2024] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND Regarding the incidence of malignant tumors in China, the incidence of liver cancer ranks fourth, second only to lung, gastric, and esophageal cancers. The case fatality rate ranks third after lung and cervical cancer. In a previous study, the whole-process management model was applied to patients with breast cancer, which effectively reduced their negative emotions and improved treatment adherence and nursing satisfaction. AIM To explore Mental state and self-care ability in patients with liver cancer: effects of whole-process case management. METHODS In this single-center, randomized, controlled study, 60 randomly selected patients with liver cancer who had been admitted to our hospital from January 2021 to January 2022 were randomly divided into an observation group (n = 30), who received whole-process case management on the basis of routine nursing measures, and a control group (n = 30), who were given routine nursing measures. We compared differences between the two groups in terms of anxiety, depression, the level of hope, self-care ability, symptom distress, sleep quality, and quality of life. RESULTS Post-intervention, Hamilton anxiety scale, Hamilton depression scale, memory symptom assessment scale, and Pittsburgh sleep quality index scores in both groups were lower than those pre-intervention, and the observation group had lower scores than the control group (P < 0.05). Herth hope index, self-care ability assessment scale-revision in Chinese, and quality of life measurement scale for patients with liver cancer scores in both groups were higher than those pre-intervention, with higher scores in the observation group compared with the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Whole-process case management can effectively reduce anxiety and depression in patients with liver cancer, alleviate symptoms and problems, and improve the level of hope, self-care ability, sleep quality, and quality of life, as well as provide feasible nursing alternatives for patients with liver cancer.

Abstract
Interventional therapies including chemotherapies and radiotherapies are the most preferred treatment for liver cancer. However, these therapies have adverse effects. Therefore, careful care is required to relieve these adverse effects. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the quality of life, pain, anxiety, depression, adverse effects, and satisfaction of patients with liver cancer who received pre- and post-operative comprehensive nursing care against those of patients who received conventional nursing care. Patients with liver cancer who underwent surgeries and interventional therapies for liver cancer received pre- and post-operative comprehensive nursing care (CMN cohort, n = 105) or conventional nursing care (CNN cohort, n = 135), or did not receive any kind of nursing care (NNC cohort, n = 175). Before the non-treatment intervention(s) (BL), none of the patients had absent post-operative pain, all patients had mild or moderate anxiety and depression, and patients had ≤70 overall quality of life score. In the NNC cohort, a few of the patients reported being completely dissatisfied with overall personal satisfaction, and anxiety, depression, and overall the quality of life of patients were clinically worse during the follow-up period generally after completion of all doses of chemo radiotherapies (EL) as compared to BL. Hospital stays due to surgery, visual analog scale (VAS) score, Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale score, the Self-rating Depression Scale score, and rehospitalization due to any reason(s) in follow-up were fewer and overall quality of life score and overall personal satisfaction score were higher for patients of the CMN cohort than those of patients at BL and those of patients of the CNN and the NNC cohorts at EL (P < .05 for all). Fever, bleeding, urinary retention, gastrointestinal disturbance, and hepatic and renal impairments reported in patients of the NNC cohort. Fever, bleeding, and urinary retention reported in patients of the CNN cohort (P < .05 for all). Nursing non-treatment intervention(s) is necessary for liver cancer patients after surgery, in the follow-up, and between 2 doses of chemoradiotherapies. Pre- and post-operative comprehensive nursing care relieves postoperative pain, psychological burden and improves quality of life in the follow-up period in patients who underwent surgeries and interventional therapies for liver cancer (Level of Evidence: IV; Technical Efficacy: Stage 5).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE (1) A remote intervention with a positive impact on reducing anxiety and alcohol use. (2) Nursing as a protagonist of preventive care in mental health (3) A low-cost intervention that covers several population groups. (4) Telenursing in mental health as a care strategy during COVID-19. to investigate the effect of a remote intervention on anxiety symptoms and alcohol use in users of the Primary Health Care service. METHOD a quasi-experimental study conducted with 1,270 participants who answered the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-6. Of these, 1,033 interviewees scored for moderate/severe anxiety symptoms (STAI-6 > 3) and moderate/severe risk alcohol use (AUDIT-C > 3), and received the interventions via telephone calls with follow-up periods lasting seven and 180 days. For data analysis, a mixed-effects regression model was used. RESULTS the effect of the intervention performed was positive in reducing anxiety symptoms between T0 and T1 (µ=1.6, p<0.001) and in reducing the alcohol use pattern between T1 and T3 (µ=1.57, p<0.001). CONCLUSION the follow-up results suggest a positive effect of the intervention in reducing anxiety and the alcohol use pattern, which tends to be maintained over time. There is diverse evidence that the intervention proposed can be an alternative for preventive care in mental health, in situations where accessibility of the user or the professional is compromised.

Abstract
Postoperative rehabilitation of craniocerebral injury requires a long process and has many complications. In addition, patients with severe craniocerebral injury are usually accompanied by impaired nervous system function, which will affect the patients’ normal life and work in a period of time after surgery. Reasonable rehabilitation nursing plays an active role in restructuring central nervous system function and coordinating muscle and joint activities. Since the rehabilitation of cerebral trauma is a long process, how to ensure the patients to carry out limb and brain function as well as self-care ability and self-care skills according to the rehabilitation exercise plan and intervention measures formulated before discharge has aroused hot debate. This study analyzed the impact of out-of-hospital continuous nursing strategy applied to patients with mild cerebral trauma on their quality of life and self-efficacy level.

Abstract
Objective. To examine the efficacy of a complete nursing strategy during the perioperative phase for patients undergoing interventional treatment for hepatocellular cancer. Methods. Sixty patients who were diagnosed with liver cancer and underwent interventional therapy in our hospital between February 2019 and December 2021 were recruited in this trial. All study subjects were numbered according to the time when the patients first came to our hospital, and were equally divided into a comprehensive group and a conventional group based on the odd and even number of the last number, with 30 cases in each group. Those in the conventional group received conventional nursing care, whereas patients in the comprehensive group received comprehensive nursing care. Before and after the nursing intervention, the quality of life, pain, and patient satisfaction in both groups were compared. Results. The quality of survival scores, including physical, emotional, role, social, and cognitive function scores of patients in the comprehensive group, were significantly higher than those in the conventional group (
); there was no statistically significant difference in numeric rating scales (NRS) scores between the two groups compared before treatment (
). After treatment, the NRS scores of patients in the study group were significantly lower than those of patients in the control group (
); before the intervention, the difference between the emotional state scores of patients in the two groups was not significant and not statistically significant (
), while the emotional state of patients in both groups improved after the intervention, and the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) scores of patients in the comprehensive group were lower than those in the conventional group (
); the total incidence of adverse reactions in the comprehensive group (10.00%) was significantly lower than that in the conventional group (46.67%) (
); and the total satisfaction of patients in the comprehensive group (93.33%) was significantly higher than that of patients in the conventional group (73.33%) (
). Conclusion. The intervention of a comprehensive nursing approach in the perioperative period for patients with liver cancer is remarkable as it can relieve patients' psychological burden and pain, ensure a smooth operation, improve patients' postoperative quality of life, and also help to reduce the risk of postoperative adverse reactions, effectively enhancing patients’ satisfaction, and thus deserves to be promoted in clinical practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the difference in anxiety and mental health of patients with liver cirrhosis with different compensatory abilities, so as to provide comprehensive treatment measures such as individualized psychological support for patients. METHODS In this retrospective study, a total of 175 patients with liver cirrhosis admitted to the Department of Infectious Diseases, Fifth Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January to December 2019 were included and divided into a compensated group (n=77) and a decompensated group (n=98). The anxiety of patients was evaluated on the day of admission, one week after hospitalization, and the day of discharge using the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Psychological investigations were conducted on the two groups of patients with cirrhosis. RESULTS The SAS score of patients in the decompensated group was higher than that of the compensated group on the day of admission (48.62±6.35 vs. 37.68±8.94, F=20.313), one week after hospitalization (56.95±7.47 vs. 42.79±10.77, F=29.879), and on the day of discharge (42.95±7.85 vs. 36.43±9.29, F=7.110) (P<0.05). The SAS score of male patients in the decompensated group was higher than that of the compensated group on the day of admission (47.50±6.25 vs. 36.70±9.92, t=-4.112), one week after hospitalization (57.25±5.80 vs. 42.10±13.24, t=-4.538) and on the day of discharge (42.33±7.34 vs. 36.19±9.65, t=-2.162) (all P<0.05). The SAS score of 40-59 year-old patients of the decompensated group was higher than that of patients in the compensated group of the same age on the day of admission (51.80±6.26 vs. 36.84±8.57, t=-4.372), one week after hospitalization (60.6±7.06 vs. 42.94±10.33, t=-4.382), and on the day of discharge (48.60±4.16 vs. 37.32±10.23, t=-3.768) (P<0.05). The SAS score of female patients in the decompensated group was higher than that in the compensated group at one week after hospitalization (56.56±9.65 vs. 35.45±18.66, t=-4.617) (P<0.05). There was no difference in the SAS score between patients of different groups on the day of admission and the day of discharge (P>0.05). CONCLUSION The anxiety of patients with different compensatory abilities of the liver is adversely affected by the severity of their illness and the length of hospitalization. The anxiety of male patients in the decompensated group is more significant than that of patients in the compensated group, while no significant difference was observed in anxiety between female patients in the decompensated group and those in the compensated group on the day of admission and discharge. It is necessary to strengthen psychological intervention, optimize the treatment methods, and reduce the average hospital stay in decompensated patients.

Abstract
Objective. The incidence of cervical cancer is high, which seriously threatens the life and health of women. At present, there were few studies on the application of family-oriented enabling psychological nursing in patients with cervical cancer. So, the purpose of this study was to explore the effect of family-oriented enabling psychological nursing on posttraumatic stress and fear of recurrence in patients with cervical cancer. The clinical data of 236 patients with cervical cancer treated in our hospital from January 2020 to December 2021 was retrospectively analyzed. According to different nursing methods, they were assigned to convention group (105 cases accepted the conventional nursing) and psychology group (131 cases accepted the family-oriented enabling psychological nursing). The PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version (PCL-C) scores, Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form (FoP-Q-SF) scores, Cancer Rehabilitation Evaluation System-Short Form (CARES-SF) scores, and satisfaction rates of the two groups were compared. It turned out that the PCL-C score, FoP-Q-SF score, and CARES-SF score decreased in the psychology group and the convention group (P < 0.05) and the decreases of those three scores were more obvious in the psychology group. In comparison with the convention group, the nursing satisfaction rate of psychology group was higher (96.18% vs. 76.19%, P < 0.05). It could be concluded that family-oriented enabling psychological nursing had definite clinical application value in patients with cervical cancer, which could alleviate the symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder and reduce the fear of recurrence, stabilize the perioperative psychological state, facilitate treatment, and improve the quality of life and satisfaction rate of patients and was worthy of promotion and application.

METHOD 113 patients with acute coronary syndrome treated with percutaneous coronary intervention in our hospital from November 2016 to June 2019 were collected and randomly divided into group A and group B. Among them, 58 cases in group A were given routine nursing care, another 55 cases in group B were given evidence-based nursing on the basis of group A. The left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) and left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVEDD), VAS pain score index, anxiety and depression after nursing intervention were observed in groups A and B. The improvement of sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)), the incidence of adverse reactions, nursing satisfaction (with the total score of 10 points for each item, the higher score indicates the higher satisfaction), coronary self-management scale (CSMS) were recorded so as to evaluate self-management ability and quality of life after nursing. RESULTS After nursing, the indicators of heart function, VAS score, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, incidence of adverse reactions, nursing satisfaction, self-management score and quality of life in Group B showed better results compared with Group A (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Evidence-based nursing can alleviate anxiety and depression of patients with acute coronary syndrome during perioperative period of percutaneous coronary intervention and improve the quality of life.
