Abstract
ABSTRACT The concurrence of Hodgkin lymphoma and papillary thyroid carcinoma is a rare clinical event. Two women presented with a painless mass in the neck that was suspected malignancy by ultrasonography. Both cases shown in the 18 F-FDG PET/CT images demonstrated multiple foci of increased FDG uptake in the neck, mimicking thyroid carcinoma with contralateral cervical lymph node metastases. Unexpectedly, the postoperative pathologies confirmed the thyroid lesion of papillary carcinoma and contralateral cervical lymph nodes of classical Hodgkin lymphoma.

Abstract
Background The incidence of thyroid cancer is on the rise worldwide, with childhood exposure to radiation being the sole acknowledged catalyst for its emergence. Nonetheless, numerous other factors that may pose risks are awaiting thorough examination and validation. This retrospective study aims to explore the malignancies linked to thyroid cancer and contrast the survival rates of those afflicted with a solitary tumor versus those with multiple primary neoplasms (MPN). Methods This retrospective study examined data from King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), Jordan. Among 563 patients diagnosed with thyroid cancer, 30 patients had thyroid malignancy as part of MPN. For a 1:3 propensity score-matched analysis, 90 patients with only a primary thyroid malignancy were also enrolled. Results Hematologic and breast malignancies were among the most frequent observed cancers alongside thyroid neoplasm. Patients who had MPN were diagnosed at older age, had higher body mass index and presented with higher thyroglobulin antibody levels (p < 0.05 for each). Additionally, MPN patient displayed a stronger family history for cancers (p= 0.002). A median follow-up duration of 135 months unveiled that MPN patients faced a worse 5-year survival compared to their counterparts with a singular neoplasm (87% vs 100% respectively; p < 0.01). However, no distinction emerged in the 5-year event-free survival between these two groups. Conclusion MPN correlates with a significantly altered survival outcome of thyroid cancer patients. The diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma at an older age, accompanied by elevated initial thyroglobulin antibody levels and a notable familial predisposition, may raise concerns about the potential occurrence of synchronous or metachronous tumors.

Abstract
The flurry of publications devoted to the functions of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) published in the last decade leaves no doubt about the exceptional importance of lncRNAs in various areas including tumor biology. However, contribution of lncRNAs to the early stages of oncogenesis remains poorly understood. In this study we explored a new role for lncRNAs: stimulation of specific chromosomal rearrangements upon DNA damage. We demonstrated that lncRNA CASTL1 (ENSG00000269945) stimulates the formation of the CCDC6-RET inversion (RET/PTC1) in human thyroid cells subjected to radiation or chemical DNA damage. Facilitation of chromosomal rearrangement requires lncRNA to contain regions complementary to the introns of both CCDC6 and RET genes as deletion of these regions deprives CASTL1 of the ability to stimulate the gene fusion. We found that CASTL1 expression is elevated in tumors with CCDC6-RET fusion which is the most frequent rearrangement in papillary thyroid carcinoma. Our results open a new venue for the studies of early oncogenesis in various tumor types, especially those associated with physical or chemical DNA damage.

Abstract
Occurrences of lymphoma and differentiated thyroid cancer are rare. Usually, involvement of the thyroid gland is seen as a part of extranodal involvement or as a part of radiation-induced malignant transformation in previously treated lymphoma patients. The incidence of synchronous hematological malignancy with differentiated thyroid cancer is 7%. The synchronous occurrence of differentiated thyroid cancer and lymphoma poses a significant diagnostic and treatment dilemma. Here we report a case series of four patients with lymphoma and differentiated thyroid cancer. All four patients had lymphoma treated first followed by definitive management of thyroid malignancy.
