Abstract
BACKGROUND Advancing health equity requires innovative patient education approaches for adapting English-language evidence-based interventions (EBIs) to resonate with multicultural, multilingual audiences. OBJECTIVE Examine the benefit, functionality, and practical considerations of transcreation (translation + cultural adaptation) as a critical and salient learner-centric process for developing a Spanish-language intervention (photonovella + video): Un examen sencillo para un colon saludable (A simple test for a healthy colon). PATIENT/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT We involved patients/community members in a participatory reflective process, from problem identification to intervention design, development, delivery, and impact measurement. METHODS A community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach involving formative research plus systematic iterative pretesting and learner verification checks augmented by a community advisory board guided the transcreation processes. RESULTS Data collected using a learner-centric approach effectively produced a new Spanish-language EBI and substantiated the value of co-learner/co-design methods. Learner-centric methods identified cultural nuances that were treated as knowledge and integrated into the intervention materials and study design. Pilot testing of the intervention among Latinos receiving care at community clinics demonstrated improved initial colorectal cancer screening uptake, awareness, and perceived susceptibility. DISCUSSION Inherent in the transcreation process was learner involvement that informed essential modification and adaptation of the materials. The transcreation methods led to the development of a culturally salient intervention that maintained theoretical integrity and message intent as well as behavioral activation. Findings have broad implications for the creation and transfer of EBIs to new audiences for greater adoption, engagement, and 'reach' of interventions. PRACTICAL VALUE Transcreation aligns with a growing paradigm shift in health communication science that brings to light the beneficial effect that construction and application of cultural knowledge has on patient education toward health equity.

Abstract
By seeking answers to ontological and epistemological questions, nursing scholars explored the foundations of nursing and articulated the meaning of nursing science from various philosophical perspectives. This ongoing search for advancement and development of nursing aligns with the concept of "normal science" by Thomas Kuhn. Kuhn's science influenced nursing knowledge, resulting in the development of nursing metaparadigm and paradigms. Despite this influence, Kuhn's science's relevance for nursing science received a little scrutinization. This article presents a critical analysis of Kuhn's science and its influence on and relevance for nursing discipline and suggests implications for nursing knowledge development.

Abstract
Health care facilities are implementing analytics platforms as a way to document quality of care. However, few gap analyses exist on platforms specifically designed for patients treated in the Operating Room, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). As part of a quality improvement effort, we undertook a gap analysis of an existing analytics platform within the Veterans Healthcare Administration. The objectives were to identify themes associated with 1) current clinical use cases and stakeholder needs; 2) information flow and pain points; and 3) recommendations for future analytics development. Methods consisted of semi-structured interviews in 2 phases with a diverse set (n = 9) of support personnel and end users from five facilities across a Veterans Integrated Service Network. Phase 1 identified underlying needs and previous experiences with the analytics platform across various roles and operational responsibilities. Phase 2 validated preliminary feedback, lessons learned, and recommendations for improvement. Emerging themes suggested that the existing system met a small pool of national reporting requirements. However, pain points were identified with accessing data in several information system silos and performing multiple manual validation steps of data content. Notable recommendations included enhancing systems integration to create "one-stop shopping" for data, and developing a capability to perform trends analysis. Our gap analysis suggests that analytics platforms designed for surgical and ICU patients should employ approaches similar to those being used for primary care patients.

Abstract
This article discusses the lessons learned by an interdisciplinary team in a large metropolitan specialty hospital during the implementation of the Code Aorta protocol for aortic emergencies and the subsequent application of technological enhancements to improve data transfer. Aortic dissections require rapid diagnosis and surgical treatment; thus, in order to optimize patient outcomes, clinicians must be accessible, data must be readily available, and proper prompts and notifications must be made to alert and ready teams. An interdisciplinary team reviewed our hospital's processes and architecture of systems to define how we provide care during aortic emergencies. Based on this insight into patient flow, we ultimately developed a Code Aorta protocol to streamline provision of care during aortic emergencies. This process focused on protocol development, human-technology interfaces, and outcome-oriented metrics. The team also aimed to heighten awareness of the emergent process and to understand relevant outcomes data. After introduction of the Code Aorta protocol, a 78% reduction was achieved in time-to-treatment from the previous year's average time. In addition, the average length of stay was reduced by 2.4 days (18%). The team's efforts focused on clinical communication, aiming to link technology to maximize clinical efficiency. The initial results of our Code Aorta protocol show promise that continual refinement of patient care processes during aortic emergencies will improve outcomes for patients suffering aortic dissection.

Abstract
AIM A discussion on how informatics knowledge and competencies can enable nursing to instantiate transition to integrated models of care. BACKGROUND Costs of traditional models of care are no longer sustainable consequent to the spiralling incidence and costs of chronic illness. The international community looks towards technology-enabled solutions to support a shift towards integrated patient-centred models of care. DESIGN Discussion paper. DATA SOURCES A search of the literature was performed dating from 2000-2015 and a purposeful data sample based on relevance to building the discussion was included. DISCUSSION The holistic perspective of nursing knowledge can support and advance integrated healthcare models. Informatics skills are key for the profession to play a leadership role in design, implementation and operation of next generation health care. However, evidence suggests that nursing engagement with informatics strategic development for healthcare provision is currently variable. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING A statistically significant need exists to progress health care towards integrated models of care. Strategic and tactical plans that are robustly pragmatic with nursing insights and expertise are an essential component to achieve effective healthcare provision. To avoid exclusion in the discourse dominated by management and technology experts, nursing leaders must develop and actively promote the advancement of nursing informatics skills. For knowledge in nursing practice to flourish in contemporary health care, nurse leaders will need to incorporate informatics for optimal translation and interpretation. CONCLUSION Defined nursing leadership roles informed by informatics are essential to generate concrete solutions sustaining nursing practice in integrated care models.

In this department, Drs Murphy, Wilson, and Newhouse highlight hot topics in nursing outcomes, research, and evidence-based practice relevant to the nurse administrator. The goal is to discuss the practical implications for nurse leaders in diverse healthcare settings. Content includes evidence-based projects and decision making, locating measurement tools for quality improvement and safety projects, using outcome measures to evaluate quality, practice implications of administrative research, and exemplars of projects that demonstrate innovative approaches to organizational problems. In this article, the authors will describe data analytics and explore the potential for data analytics in meaningful use implementation to enhance executive decision making.
