Abstract
Social media have emerged as a promising communication channel for promoting breastfeeding among a new generation of mothers. Yet, there is no published study reporting the effects of a large-scale social media intervention on key breastfeeding-related perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors. As a component of its breastfeeding promotion campaign, the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program implemented a 12-month intervention using Facebook and Instagram and subsequently evaluated the outcomes by surveying WIC-participating women (N = 832) twice, immediately before and after the intervention. Based on their level of exposure to the intervention messages, the women were retrospectively classified into two groups, resulting in a two-group (no-low exposure vs. medium-high exposure) quasi-experiment. Women in the medium-high exposure group, in comparison with women in the no-low exposure group, exhibited higher campaign awareness (p < .001), visits to the campaign website (p < .001), and engagement with the website content (p < .001). They also reported more positive breastfeeding attitudes (M = 17.26 vs. M = 16.51, p < .05), self-efficacy (M = 54.48 vs. M = 49.94, p < .01), and social support (M = 27.37 vs. M = 25.11, p < .001). But they did not differ from women in the no-low exposure group in breastfeeding initiation (p > .05) and duration (p > .05). In conclusion, a social media-based intervention resulted in more positive breastfeeding attitudes, higher self-efficacy, and higher perceived social support. Future studies need to investigate the optimal level of intervention message dosage that prompts significant behavioral changes.

Abstract
The progress and development of society in every sense is possible by raising healthy individuals. To do so, it is necessary to ensure the physical and mental development of children in a healthy way. There are many variables that affect the physical and mental development of children. These variables are affected by individual factors, social structure, social interactions and cultural values. In addition, when these factors interact with each other, their effect on behavior and well-being may increase. Undoubtedly, one of the primary factors negatively affecting a child's physical and psychological development is the adverse economic conditions and hardships experienced by his/her family and consequently, by the child. Increasing poverty hinders children's access to resources, and thus negatively affects their mental health as well as their physical development. Furthermore, positive economic conditions pave the way for an improved environment, better nutrition, higher-quality education, elevated social status, more friends, reduced feelings of loneliness, and increased social support and trust and all of these positively contribute to psychological well-being. Therefore, based on the conviction that early interventions can be protective and screening is needed to determine the proper intervention, this study aims to investigate the relationship between psychological well-being, loneliness, social support and social trust, all of which affect the psychological health of children living in economically disadvantaged families. To this end, answers to the following questions were sought. Is there a significant relationship between the loneliness, social support, social trust and psychological well-being of the children from low-income families? Do the feelings of loneliness, social support and social trust of the children from low-income families significantly predict their psychological well-being?

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite evidence that loneliness increases during times of transition, and that the incidence of loneliness is highest in young adults, loneliness during pregnancy and new parenthood has not been developed as a program of research. Because loneliness research has primarily focused on older adults and other high-risk populations, the concept of loneliness and its effects on this population are not well understood, leaving a gap in our understanding of the psychosocial needs and health risks of loneliness on pregnant people and new parents. A scoping review has been completed in order to map and synthesize the literature on loneliness experienced during pregnancy and the first 5 years of parenthood prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS To address the aim of this review, a wide net was cast in order to detect experiences of perinatal or parental loneliness and/or instances where loneliness was measured in this population. Among the inclusion criteria were loneliness in people who were pregnant, who were parents in the postpartum period, or who had children aged 5 years or younger. A search for literature was conducted in December 2020 using nine databases: MEDLINE (Ovid), EMBASE (Elsevier), SCOPUS (Elsevier), Cochrane Library including CENTRAL (Wiley), CINAHL (Ebscohost), PsycINFO (Ebscohost), Dissertations & Theses Global (ProQuest) and Sociological Abstracts (ProQuest), and the Web of Science Core Collection (Clarivate). RESULTS Perinatal and parental loneliness studies are limited and have rarely been targeted and developed through a program of research. Loneliness inquiry in this population was frequently studied in relation to other concepts of interest (e.g., postpartum depression). Alternatively, the importance of loneliness emerged from study participants as relevant to the research topic during qualitative inquiry. Across studies, the prevalence of loneliness ranged from 32 to 100%. Loneliness was commonly experienced alongside parenting difficulties, with parents feeling as though they were alone in their struggles. CONCLUSIONS As loneliness has been called a sensitive indicator of mental wellbeing, we believe screening will help healthcare professionals identify common difficulties and early signs of depression experienced during pregnancy and parenthood. Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effectiveness of a midwife-family provided social support programme (MFPSS programme) for first-time adolescent mothers on preventing postpartum depression (PPD) at 3-month postpartum. BACKGROUND Adolescent mothers with lack of social support are a high-risk group for increasing the development of PPD. Interventions designed to promote social support and provided to mothers following childbirth have a more effective role in preventing PPD. DESIGN The Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) guidelines for a single-blinded randomised controlled trial were conducted. METHODS Forty-two adolescent mothers were randomly assigned to 4-week MFPSS programme plus routine care (n = 21) and routine care only (n = 21). PPD was measured using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), rates and severity at baseline, post-test, 6-week and 3-month postpartum follow-ups. Repeated measures ANOVA and Cohen's d were used to analyse the data. RESULTS At the last follow-up, 20 (95.24%) participants remained in each group. Data were analysed based on 40 adolescent mothers. After the intervention, the mean EPDS scores in the intervention group were significantly lower than the same scores in the control group at post-test, 6-week and 3-month postpartum follow-ups. Similarly, the rates and severity of PPD in the intervention group were also lower than the control group at post-test, 6-week and 3-month postpartum follow-ups. CONCLUSION Psychosocial support interventions designed to incorporate support from midwives and family members is an effective intervention for preventing PPD in first-time adolescent mothers and the preventive effect is sustained for up to 3-month postpartum. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Midwives or nurses could apply the MFPSS programme to nursing care for adolescent mothers and family members by adding health information about PPD and promoting social support. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION The trial was registered with Thai Clinical Trials Registry (TCTR). The trial registration number is TCTR 20190206004.

Abstract
AIM This paper aims to discuss social networking sites as potentially salutogenic, culturally relevant extensions to maternity care provision for adolescent mothers. BACKGROUND Studies report that online networking may enhance social capital, a concept linked to enhanced well-being, particularly for marginalized individuals. Improving outcomes for adolescent mothers is an ongoing global strategy; thus, this paper has relevance for all professionals involved in their care. DESIGN This is a discussion paper. DATA SOURCES This paper draws on the authors' research and is supported by literature and theory. Key terms and Boolean operators were used to identifiy English-language papers published in January 1995 to January 2019 in nine databases and Google Scholar databases. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING Despite limited evidence specific to adolescent mothers, contextual studies suggest that social networking sites may enhance well-being. Nurses and midwives need to understand adolescent mothers' use of online networks to aid development of innovative, health-enhancing care strategies using adolescent-familiar modalities. CONCLUSION This paper highlights the need for further research regarding the value of professional engagement in online networks to enhance an adolescent's transition to motherhood.

Abstract
Experiencing violence has been associated with negative health outcomes. The objectives of this study were to determine whether experiencing violence is associated increased support service needs and suboptimal general health indicators. In addition, we explore the relationship between these and perceived social support among a select sample of urban predominantly male adults in Baltimore City. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 187 adults being seen in one of seven urban partner agencies participating in a parent HIV prevention and treatment demonstration project. Associations were examined using a multivariable logistic regression model, adjusting for the clinic site at which the client was being seen as well as age and gender identity. There was a significant amount of violence experienced by this population; 131 (72%) reported having seen someone be physically assaulted, and 89 (49%) had been physically assaulted without a weapon. Direct victimization from violence was associated with a threefold increased odds of needing housing and mental health/substance use services. Exposure to violence was associated with a threefold increase in needing housing and mental health/substance use services, and with sub-optimal health status. Perceived social support was associated with 30% decreased reports of experiencing violence. In conclusion, our select sample of urban adults report having experienced high rates of violence, and this is associated with increased support service needs as well as suboptimal perceived health status. Incorporating care for the effects of experiencing violence as well as social service needs are important in optimizing the health of urban populations.

Abstract
Introduction: The United States is experiencing a maternal-child health (MCH) crisis including racial inequalities in mortality. This study explored the roles of lay experts who provide information and support to women of childbearing age (i.e., Wise Women) and cultural norms for sharing MCH information and support in an urban, predominantly African American community. Methodology: This qualitative community-engaged study (N = 49) of social networks utilized a semistructured guide and brainstorming activities with eight focus groups (three community leader, three community women, and two Wise Women). Results: Although several sources of MCH information and support were noted, Wise Women were the most frequently reported culturally normative sources. Emergent themes included positive affirmations for informal exchange of MCH information among women and roadblocks to MCH information exchange and support. Discussion: Results suggest a need for culturally relevant interventions that would strengthen lines of communication and social connectedness among African American women.

Abstract
New mothers actively adapt to new demands and challenges in the mothering role but some may find this adjustment difficult and distressing, depending on their perceptions and resources. Previous research on maternal distress is primarily concentrated on needs of mothers with depression but nonpathological approaches of viewing difficulties in early parenting should be explored. A secondary analysis of a descriptive, qualitative study was completed on new, low-income mothers in early parenthood to determine how maternal distress influences mothers' transition to becoming a mother and to validate the use of the Maternal Distress Concept in the clinical setting. Findings reveal new mothers experience maternal distress on various levels: stress, adaptation, functioning, and connecting. Implications for practice and education are discussed.

Abstract
Background Early motherhood is one of the most important issues in developing countries. Adolescent mothers are not sufficiently prepared to accept the maternal role. How to achieve success in the maternal role should be studied. Objective To explore the experiences of Iranian adolescent mothers about the maternal role. Methods This qualitative study was conducted through a conventional content analysis approach from March to December 2016. Face to face in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 Iranian teenage mothers in Kerman province, Iran. Participants were selected purposefully and with maximum variation of the age of the first birth, child's age, place of residence and financial status. Data collection continued until data saturation and MAXQDA software was utilized to analyze the collected data. Results Data analysis resulted in the extraction of the two main categories including optimizing the process of the maternal experience (use of maximum individual capabilities, planning and management of conditions, efforts to acquire maternal competency, and reliance on spirituality) and supporters for the acceptance of the maternal role (social support, professional services of health care providers, time lapse, care history). Conclusion Early motherhood is not merely an unpleasant experience; if appropriate strategies and facilitators are used, it can have positive consequences. Health care providers should provide satisfactory services in care, education and support with adequate knowledge of adolescent characteristics. Opportunities in the community should also be directed to support this vulnerable group.

Abstract
Children born to teen mothers may experience less responsive and supportive parenting and are at heightened risk for a range of social, developmental, and health issues. There is literature to support the positive impact of grandmothers on teen parents and their children. However, what if the teen's mother is also limited in her parenting capacities? How do parenting capacities across these two generations of mothers affect the developing child? In this ongoing study we are examining two important aspects of parenting capacities, attachment quality and executive functioning, in teen mothers (TM) and their biological, co- residing mothers or grandmothers (GM or GGM). Both are essential components of effective parenting, but little is known about their impact on young children's development when raised by two generations of parents. In a cross- sectional, descriptive design, a convenience sample of 50 TM/GM dyads with children 1 to 3 years old is being recruited from two urban teen-tot clinics. Participants complete a paper-and-pencil measure of attachment quality and a computerized measure of multiple aspects of executive function (working memory, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility). A standardized maternal report measure is used to assess child developmental status. The biggest challenges of the study thus far include recruitment and transience of the study population. Progress to date and experiences from recruitment and data collection are discussed, as well as successful strategies to address challenges.
