Abstract
Pancreatic rest/ectopic pancreas is a rare condition. An 82-year-old male presented with abdominal pain and was found to have an antral nodule on esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). An endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) was done and the nodule was resected. Histology showed ectopic pancreatic tissue with pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia, PanIN-1 (low-grade dysplasia). This case highlights the importance of considering pancreatic rest as a differential in patients who present with a gastric sub-epithelial lesion and the associated finding of PanIN-1 highlights the importance of resecting such heterogeneous appearing lesions given the potential risk of progressing to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA).

Abstract
BACKGROUND The diagnosis of type 2 autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is dependent on typical radiologic imaging and the presence of the granulocytic epithelial lesion (GEL), which is characterized by ductal neutrophilic infiltration with or without neutrophilic acinar infiltration. METHODS We evaluated GEL and related clinicopathologic factors in 165 resected heterotopic pancreata (HPs) [57 gastric (35%), 56 duodenal (34%), 30 omental (18%), and 22 jejunal (13%)] and 29 matched orthotopic pancreata routinely examined during surgery. RESULTS GEL was noted in 8% (13/165) of HPs, including ductal epithelial (6/13, 46%) and intraluminal (8/13, 62%) neutrophilic infiltrations. However, there was no GEL in orthotopic pancreata. Abdominal pain was observed in 6 (46%) patients with GEL-positive HPs. GEL was more commonly observed in HPs having symptoms (p = 0.029), a larger size (p = 0.028), and an infiltrative growth pattern (p = 0.006). In addition, periductal lymphoplasmacytic infiltration and fibrosis (both p < 0.001), interstitial fibrosis (p = 0.017), acinar neutrophilic infiltration (p = 0.032), venulitis (p = 0.050), acinar ductal metaplasia (ADM; p = 0.040), and pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia/intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (PanIN/IPMN; p < 0.001) were more commonly seen in HPs with GEL than in those without GEL. Inflammatory bowel disease was present only in one patient with GEL-negative HP. CONCLUSIONS GELs are detected in a subset of HPs without clinical evidence of AIP. Therefore, for the diagnosis of AIP, GEL should be carefully interpreted with the context of other histologic, clinical, and radiologic findings.

Abstract
Background Ectopic pancreas (EP) is defined as pancreatic tissue that lacks anatomical or vascular communication with the normal body of the pancreas. Despite improvements in diagnostic endoscopy and imaging studies, differentiating ectopic pancreatic tissue from gastric submucosal diseases remains a challenge. Case presentation Here, we present a case of a 44-year-old woman with severe epigastric pain. Initially, gastric lymphangioma was highly suspected due to a well-demarcated protruding mass with a large size that occurred in the submucosal layer of the gastric antrum and appeared as a cystic lesion. The final correct diagnosis of gastric EP was made during surgery. Conclusion Gastric EP with serous oligocystic adenoma appearing as a giant gastric cyst is extremely rare. The difficulty of making an accurate diagnosis and differential diagnosis is highlighted, which may provide additional clinical experience for the diagnosis of EP with serous oligocystic adenoma in the stomach.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pancreatic rest (PR) is an ectopic pancreatic lesion that is usually found incidentally on endoscopy or surgery. While most lesions do not have clinical significance, some patients are symptomatic and rarely, PR can predispose to malignancy. With the growing popularity of bariatric surgery, it has been unclear how to manage PR found on screening endoscopies, prior to bariatric surgery. Through review of the current literature, we propose an algorithm for clinicians to evaluate and manage PR found on screening endoscopies prior to bariatric surgery. METHODS We performed a literature search in PubMed pertaining to PR, clinical characteristics, risk of malignant transformation, endoscopic characteristics, histological descriptions, and resection techniques. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), we found 33 published articles from 2001 to 2019, including case reports, case series, retrospective cohorts, and a review paper. RESULTS PR is commonly found incidentally in the gastric antrum. Larger lesions have a higher risk of being symptomatic or predisposing to malignant transformation. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) can assist in the diagnosis of PR and guide resection technique. Certain histological characteristics, such as Heinrich class, grading of neoplasia, and genetic alterations, can determine malignancy risk of PR. Resection technique, either endoscopically or surgically, should be based on lesion size, depth of wall invasion, and the endoscopists' level of skill in endoscopic resection. CONCLUSIONS Proper evaluation and treatment of PR should be considered because of the risk for symptoms and malignant transformation. Symptomatic lesions and those at risk for malignant transformation should be considered for resection. EUS can guide the diagnosis and type of resection, either endoscopically through EMR or ESD or surgically through sleeve gastrectomy or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB).

Abstract
Pancreatic heterotopia most commonly occurs in the upper gastrointestinal tract, but can occur in other sites, including Meckel's diverticulum. When multiple histologic elements of the pancreatic tissue (acini, ducts, and endocrine cells) are present, the diagnosis is typically straightforward. In this article, we report a rare case of pure endocrine pancreatic heterotopia involving a Meckel's diverticulum, a potential mimic of a well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor. Several features were useful in making the distinction, including lack of desmoplasia and mass forming lesion, and immunohistochemical staining in a physiological pattern similar to that of islets of Langerhans. It is important for pathologists to be aware of this entity and its features to avoid misdiagnosis of a neuroendocrine tumor.

Abstract
Heterotopic pancreas is the presence of pancreatic tissue outside its normal location. It can develop similar pathological conditions that develop in the normal pancreas, including adenocarcinoma and its precursor lesions. Due to the rarity of the condition, the diagnosis can be challenging, and treatment is not well established. We present a 47-year-old female patient referred for endoscopic resection of a 2 cm polyp in the second part of her duodenum. Complete endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) was performed, with pathology revealing low-grade pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) in heterotopic pancreatic tissue. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of heterotopic pancreas with low-grade PanIN in the duodenum to be incidentally diagnosed and treated with EMR.

Heterotopic Pancreas of the Gastrointestinal Tract and Associated Precursor and Cancerous Lesions: Systematic Pathologic Studies of 165 Cases. Am J Surg Pathol 2017; 41:833-848. Abstract
Heterotopic pancreas (HP) can be detected by accompanying symptoms or incidentally during gastrointestinal (GI) tract tumor resection. We compared clinicopathologic features among 165 resected HPs (57 gastric [35%], 56 duodenal [34%], 30 omental [18%], and 22 jejunal [13%]). Symptomatic HPs (79/135 GI tract wall HPs, 59%) were larger (P=0.05), more common in younger patients and in a gastric location (both P<0.001), and more frequently associated with lymphoid cuffs (P=0.03) than incidentally found HPs. Gastric/jejunal HPs were more frequently symptomatic (P<0.001), deeply located (P=0.03), and associated with lymphoid cuffs (P=0.008) and pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia/intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (PanIN/IPMN; P=0.001) than duodenal HPs. HP was frequently associated with acinar-ductal metaplasias (117/135 GI tract wall HPs, 87%) and PanINs/IPMNs (68/135, 50%); those with PanINs/IPMNs were larger (P<0.001), more frequently located in stomach (P=0.001), had deeper wall involvement (P=0.03), and more often showed infiltrative growth (P<0.001) and lymphoid cuffs (P=0.02). Four HPs containing PanINs abutted adenocarcinomas, all expressing wild-type KRAS and intact SMAD4/DPC4 expression. Thus, symptomatic HP is associated with younger age, larger size, gastric location, and lymphoid cuffs. HPs containing PanINs/IPMNs (usually low grade) are larger and more common in stomach, have deeper wall location, and show infiltrative growth and lymphoid cuffs. Adenocarcinomas are rarely observed adjacent to HPs with PanINs/IPMNs. KRAS mutational and SMAD4/DPC4 immunohistochemical studies can discriminate between adenocarcinoma derived from HP and concurrent adenocarcinoma with HP.

Abstract
Heterotopic pancreatic parenchyma recapitulates the normal pancreas in extrapancreatic locations and, on rare occasions, can even give rise to pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The genetic signatures of pancreatic adenocarcinoma and its precursor lesions are well characterized. We explored the genetic alterations in precursor lesions (intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms [IPMN], pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia [PanIN]) in patients with pancreatic heterotopias but without concomitant pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas. This allowed us to determine whether the stereotypical dysplasia--infiltrating carcinoma sequence also occurs in these extrapancreatic foci. Seven cases of heterotopic pancreas with ductal precursor lesions were identified. These included 2 IPMNs with focal high-grade dysplasia and 5 PanINs with low- to moderate-grade dysplasia (PanIN grades 1-2). Neoplastic epithelium was microdissected and genomic DNA was extracted. Sequencing of commonly mutated hotspots (KRAS, TP53, CDKN2A, SMAD4, BRAF, and GNAS) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and its precursor lesions was performed. Both IPMNs were found to have KRAS codon 12 mutations. The identification of KRAS mutations suggests a genetic pathway shared with IPMN of the pancreas. No mutations were identified in our heterotopic PanINs. One of the possible mechanisms for the development of dysplasia in these lesions is field effect. At the time of these resections, there was no clinical or pathologic evidence of a prior or concomitant pancreatic lesion. However, a clinically undetectable lesion is theoretically possible. Therefore, although a field effect cannot be excluded, there was no evidence for it in this study.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The annular pancreas is a congenital anomaly in which pancreatic tissue partially or completely surrounds the second portion of the duodenum. Its often located above of papilla of Vater (85%), rarely below (15%). This pancreatic tissue is often easily dissociable to the duodenum but there is same cases where it the tissue is into the muscolaris wall of the duodenum. MATERIAL AND METHODS We describe three case of annular pancreas hospitalized in our facility between January 2004 and January 2009. There were 2 male 65 and 69 years old respectively and 1 female of 60 years old, presented complaining of repeated episodes of mild epigastric pain. Laboratory tests (including tumor markers), a direct abdomen X-ray with enema, EGDS and total body CT scan were performed to study to better define the diagnosis. EUS showed the presence of tissue infiltrating the muscle layer all around the first part of duodenum. Biopsies performed found the presence of pancreatic tissue with focal areas of adenocarcinoma. Subtotal gastrectomy with Roux was performed. The histological examinations shows an annular pancreas of D1 with multiple focal area of adenocarcinoma. (T1aN0M0). RESULTS We performed a follow up at 5 years. One patients died after 36 months for cardiovascular hit. Two patients, one male and one female, was 5-years disease-free. DISCUSSION Annular pancreas is an uncommon congenital anomaly which usually presents itself in infants and newborn. Rarely it can present in late adult life with wide range of clinical severities thereby making its diagnosis difficult. Pre-operative diagnosis is often difficult. CT scan can illustrate the pancreatic tissue encircling the duodenum. ERCP and MRCP are useful in outlining the annular pancreatic duct. Surgery still remains necessary to confirm diagnosis and bypassing the obstructed segment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ectopic pancreatic tissue is relatively uncommon, and is characterized as pancreatic tissue with no contact with the normal pancreas, and with its own ductal system and blood supply. It is usually asymptomatic, and can be incidentally diagnosed by conventional imaging studies. METHOD A 69-year-old woman with a prior history of bilateral breast carcinoma presented with ectopic pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) that was identified incidentally in the small bowel during an oncological resection of a synchronous primary pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and renal cell carcinoma. RESULTS The patient underwent subtotal pancreatectomy with splenectomy, regional lymphadenectomy, radical left nephrectomy, and small bowel resection with primary anastomosis of ectopic PanIN-2. She had an uneventful hospitalization and was discharged home on postoperative day 7. CONCLUSIONS The occurrence of ectopic PanIN is extremely unusual with only few cases previously reported in the literature. The need for negative margins after surgical resection of ectopic PanIN lesions remains controversial.

Abstract
Over the past few years there have been substantial advances in our knowledge of premalignant lesions of the pancreas. Given the dismal prognosis of untreated pancreatic cancer, and the small proportion of patients who are operative candidates, an understanding of these premalignant lesions is essential for the development of strategies for early diagnosis and prevention. The 2010 WHO classification has added new entities, including intraductal tubular papillary neoplasms (ITPNs), and clarified the nomenclature and grading of previously recognised precursor lesions of pancreatic adenocarcinoma, such as intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs), mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCNs) and pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN). In particular, there has been an upsurge of interest in the natural history of IPMN, driven partly by improvements in imaging modalities and the consequent apparent increase in their incidence, and partly by recognition that subtypes based on location or histological appearance define groups with significantly different behaviours. In mid 2012 revised international guidelines for the classification and management of IPMNs and MCNs were published, although in several respects these guidelines represent a consensus view rather than being evidence-based. In recent years major advances in molecular technologies, including whole-exome sequencing, have significantly enhanced our knowledge of pancreatic premalignancy and have identified potentially highly specific diagnostic biomarkers such as mutations in GNAS and RNF43 that could be used to pre-operatively assess pancreatic cysts.

Abstract
AIMS Immature squamous metaplasia of the pancreatic duct (ISMPD) can be difficult to differentiate from an intraductal carcinoma of the pancreas (ICP), and little is known about the pathological nature of ISMPD. The aim of this study was to analyse 20 ISMPD and 10 ICP tissue samples. METHODS AND RESULTS ISMPD shares some characteristics with ICP. Seven of 20 ISMPD samples were covered by a layer of pancreatic duct epithelium, whereas this was not seen in the ICP samples. Immunohistochemistry of ISMPD revealed positivity for p63 (100%), cytokeratin 5/6 (95%), cytokeratin 7 (95%), cytokeratin 20 (10%), and MUC-1 (95%), and the samples were negative for p53, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and bcl-2. In contrast, ICP was positive for p63 (40%), p53 (10%), cytokeratin 7 (90%), cytokeratin 20 (20%), CEA (30%), and MUC-1 (80%), and negative for cytokeratin 5/6. However, in 84% (16) of the ISMPD samples, cytokeratin 7 was expressed only by an epithelial layer at the apical surface; this expression pattern was not found in any of the 10 ICP samples. The mean Ki67 labelling index was 1.0% in ISMPD and 18.5% in ICP. CONCLUSIONS Our study suggests that immunohistochemical staining for cytokeratin 5/6 and Ki67 constitutes the best combination for differentiating ISMPD from ICP.

Abstract
Profiling experiments in whole tissue biopsies have linked altered expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) to different types of cancer, including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Emerging evidence indicates that altered miRNA expression can occur in different cellular compartments (cancer and non-cancer cells) in tumor lesions, and thus it is important to ascertain which specific cell type expresses a particulars miRNA in PDAC tissues. Here, we describe a highly sensitive fluorescence-based ISH method to visualize miRNA accumulation within individual cells in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections using 5' and 3' terminally fluorescein-labeled locked nucleic acid (LNA)-modified probes. We describe a multicolor ISH/IHC method based on sequential rounds of horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-mediated tyramide signal amplification (TSA) reactions with different in-house synthesized fluorochrome-conjugated substrates that enable co-detection of miRNAs, abundant noncoding RNAs and protein markers for signal quantification, and cell type co-localization studies in FFPE pancreatic tissue sections from clinical specimens and mouse models of PDAC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With less than a 5% survival rate pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is almost uniformly lethal. In order to make a significant impact on survival of patients with this malignancy, it is necessary to diagnose the disease early, when curative surgery is still possible. Detailed knowledge of the natural history of the disease and molecular events leading to its progression is therefore critical. METHODS AND FINDINGS We have analysed the precursor lesions, PanINs, from prophylactic pancreatectomy specimens of patients from four different kindreds with high risk of familial pancreatic cancer who were treated for histologically proven PanIN-2/3. Thus, the material was procured before pancreatic cancer has developed, rather than from PanINs in a tissue field that already contains cancer. Genome-wide transcriptional profiling using such unique specimens was performed. Bulk frozen sections displaying the most extensive but not microdissected PanIN-2/3 lesions were used in order to obtain the holistic view of both the precursor lesions and their microenvironment. A panel of 76 commonly dysregulated genes that underlie neoplastic progression from normal pancreas to PanINs and PDAC were identified. In addition to shared genes some differences between the PanINs of individual families as well as between the PanINs and PDACs were also seen. This was particularly pronounced in the stromal and immune responses. CONCLUSIONS Our comprehensive analysis of precursor lesions without the invasive component provides the definitive molecular proof that PanIN lesions beget cancer from a molecular standpoint. We demonstrate the need for accumulation of transcriptomic changes during the progression of PanIN to PDAC, both in the epithelium and in the surrounding stroma. An identified 76-gene signature of PDAC progression presents a rich candidate pool for the development of early diagnostic and/or surveillance markers as well as potential novel preventive/therapeutic targets for both familial and sporadic pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Abstract
Heterotopic pancreas is mostly found incidentally, and adenocarcinoma arising from heterotopic pancreas appears to be extremely rare. A case of a 46-year-old woman with adenocarcinoma arising from intrahepatic heterotopic pancreas is reported herein. Computed tomography demonstrated a mass located in the bile duct of the left hepatic lobe. Pathological examination revealed a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma arising from intrahepatic heterotopic pancreas with nerve infiltration. This may be the first reported case of adenocarcinoma arising from intrahepatic heterotopic pancreas.

Abstract
OBJETIVO: Analisar as características clínico-patológicas do tecido pancreático heterotópico em órgãos digestivos abdominais. MÉTODOS: Realizamos estudo retrospectivo analisando 18 portadores de pâncreas heterotópico diagnosticados histologicamente. Seus dados clínicos e histopatológicos foram revistos. O tecido pancreático heterotópico foi classificado em três modelos histológicos: tipo I constituído por três componentes do pâncreas normal (ácinos, ductos e ilhotas), tipo II com dois componentes e tipo três com somente um componente. RESULTADOS: A média de idade foi de 52,7 anos, variando de 34 a 73 anos, com nove homens e nove mulheres. Sintomas foram observados em somente quatro doentes, sendo suas lesôes diagnosticadas por gastroscopia. Os 14 restantes eram assintomáticos e suas anomalias descobertas acidentalmente. A maioria das lesões situava-se no trato superior: sete (38,9%) no estômago, seis (33,3%) no duodeno e três (16,6%) no jejuno. A heterotopia localizou-se preferencialmente na submucosa (83,3%), mas também foi observada na muscular própria e na sub-serosa. Em sete (38,9%) espécimes todos os componentes pancreáticos foram constatados (tipo I), em oito (44,4%) estavam presentes glândulas exócrinas e ductos excretores (tipo II) e em três (16,7%) somente o tecido exócrino foi observado (tipo III). CONCLUSÃO: A heterotopia pancreática é rara. Doentes com ectopia pancreática diagnosticadas pelo estudo patológico, assintomáticos ou com sintomas discretos devem permanecer em observação. As lesões detectadas acidentalmente durante procedimentos cirúrgicos necessitam ser removidas por procedimentos conservadores.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a predisposing disease for pancreatic carcinoma (PC), however, precise molecular mechanisms of cancer development in the background of CP are ill defined. METHODS A total of 443 laser-microdissected pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasias (PanINs), acinar-ductal metaplasia (ADM), and normal ducts from 21 patients with CP were analyzed for loss of heterozygosity (LOH) and immunohistochemical protein expression of p53, p16, and DPC4. Pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasias were analyzed for mutations in p53, p16, and Ki-ras genes by ABI sequencing. Aneuploidy was determined by fluorescence in situ hybridization with probes for chromosomes 3, 7, 8, and 17. RESULTS Loss of heterozygosity rate in PanIN-1 and ADM was between 1.7% (p53) and 5.8% (p16). In PanIN-3, p53 protein overexpression and loss of expression for p16 and DPC4 protein were seen. Heterozygous mutations of p53 and p16 without LOH were found in PanIN-1A and ADM, whereas homozygous mutations were found in PanIN-3. Aneuploidy increased from PanIN-1A to PanIN-3. Ki-ras mutations were discovered first in PanIN-1. CONCLUSIONS Heterozygous mutations of p53- and p16 genes together with chromosomal instability occur early in CP and are clonally expanded, but final inactivation mostly by LOH happens later in pancreatic carcinogenesis. Determination of aneuploidy in pancreatic juice may be of value for early detection and risk assessment in patients with long-standing CP.

Abstract
Pancreatic heterotopia has been described at several abdominal and intrathoracic locations, most commonly in the stomach and upper part of the small intestine. Its occurrence in the rectum is unusual, and malignant transformation in the rectum has not been reported. We report a case of ductal adenocarcinoma arising in a rectal pancreatic heterotopia in a 42-year-old woman with delayed local recurrence. The tumor was composed of well to moderately differentiated ductal adenocarcinoma infiltrating through the full thickness of the anorectal wall with extension into the vaginal septum. A focus of ectopic pancreas consisting of exocrine acini and small ducts adjacent to the tumor with some ducts showing mild to severe dysplasia reminiscent of pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia was also observed. Although our literature search found 31 documented reports of tumors arising in the heterotopic pancreas, the present case is the first case of ductal adenocarcinoma arising in a focus of pancreatic heterotopia in the rectum.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pancreatic cancer has a high mortality rate because it is usually diagnosed when metastasis have already occurred (microscopic and gross disease). Ezrin plays important roles in cell motility, invasion and tumor progression, and it is especially crucial for metastasis. However, its function in pancreatic cancer remains elusive. METHODS AND RESULTS We found that ezrin overexpression promoted cell protrusion, microvillus formation, anchorage-independent growth, motility and invasion in a pancreatic cancer cell line, MiaPaCa-2, whereas ezrin silencing resulted in the opposite effects. Ezrin overexpression also increased the number of metastatic foci (6/8 vs. 1/8) in a spontaneous metastasis nude mouse model. Furthermore, ezrin overexpression activated Erk1/2 in MiaPaCa-2 cells, which might be partially related to the alteration of cell morphology and invasion. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that ezrin was overexpressed in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) (91.4%) and precancerous lesions, i.e. the tubular complexes in chronic pancreatitis (CP) and pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasm (PanIN) (85.7% and 97.1%, respectively), compared to normal pancreatic tissues (0%). Ezrin was also expressed in intercalated ducts adjacent to the adenocarcinoma, which has been considered to be the origin of ducts and acini, as well as the starting point of pancreatic ductal carcinoma development. CONCLUSIONS We propose that ezrin might play functional roles in modulating morphology, growth, motility and invasion of pancreatic cancer cells, and that the Erk1/2 pathway may be involved in these roles. Moreover, ezrin may participate in the early events of PDAC development and may promote its progression to the advanced stage.

Abstract
Protein ubiquitination by E3 ubiquitin ligases plays an important role in cancer development. In this study, we provide experimental evidence that a RING-finger-containing protein RNF13 is an ER/Golgi membrane-associated E3 ubiquitin ligase and its RING finger domain is required for the ubiquitin ligase activity. Immunohistochemical analysis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and paracancerous normal tissues from 72 patients documented RNF13 over-expression in 30 tumor samples (41.7%, 30/72), and its expression was significantly associated with histological grading (P = 0.024). In addition, RNF13 was detected in precancerous lesions: tubular complexes in chronic pancreatitis (CP) and pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) (79.3%, 23/29 and 62.8%, 22/35, respectively). Moreover, RNF13 staining was significantly correlated with Tenascin-C expression (P = 0.004) in PDAC samples, further supporting the role of RNF13 in cancer progression. Over-expression of wild type but not RING domain-mutant RNF13 in pancreatic MiaPaca-2 cancer cells increased invasive potential and gelatinolytic activity by matrix metalloproteinase-9. Taken together, these findings reveal that RNF13 is a novel E3 ubiquitin ligase involved in pancreatic carcinogenesis; ubiquitin-mediated modification of proteins by RNF13 may participate in pancreatic cancer development.

It is often an incidental finding and can be found at different sites in the gastrointestinal tract. It may become clinically evident when complicated by pathologic changes such as inflammation, bleeding, obstruction, and malignant transformation. In this report, a 40 years old woman with epigastric pain due to ectopic pancreatic tissue in the stomach is described. The difficulty of making an accurate diagnosis is highlighted. The patient has remained free of symptoms since she underwent wedge resection of the lesion three years ago. Frozen sections may help in deciding the extent of resection intraoperatively. Although ectopic pancreas is rare, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a submucosal gastric tumour.
