Primary Precursor B-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma of the Ovary: Case Report and Review of the Literature:

An Extranodal Site of Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma Presenting as Ovarian Cancer

Due to its uncommon nature, primary ovarian lymphoma has no clinical particularities and can be confused with other ovarian cancers. It poses a twofold diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. An anatomopathological and immunohistochemical study is the crucial step in the diagnosis. Our case was a 55-year-old woman diagnosed with an Ann Arbor stage II E ovarian non-Hodgkin's lymphoma who initially presented with a painful pelvic mass. This case reflects the major role of an immunohistochemical study in the diagnosis workup, leading to the appropriate management of such rare tumors.

Unexpected Rare Association of Secondary Breast, Thyroid, and Ovarian Lymphomas in a Female Patient with Burkitt Lymphoma: PET-CT Findings

We report the case of a 15-year-old female, followed for Burkitt lymphoma with initial ovarian presentation. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) with 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose ( 18 F-FDG) performed to evaluate initial extension assessment showed an unexpected association with secondary breast, thyroid, and ovarian lymphomas. To our knowledge, this association is very rare, unusual, and these extranodal presentations have been reported in literature as a separate case report. Authors highlight performance of PET-CT with 18 F-FDG to determinate the secondary origin of this multiglandular involvement, to establish a lesional map of the whole body, and to contribute to the therapeutic decision.

Torquated large ovarian lymphoma as a cause of acute abdomen: a case report of diffuse large B-cell ovarian lymphoma with a germinal center B-cell-like phenotype

BACKGROUND

Ovarian lymphoma is a rare neoplasm and most commonly represents secondary ovarian involvement in overt systemic disease, usually of the non-Hodgkin's type.

AIM

To report a case of acute abdomen caused by torquated large ovarian lymphoma.

CASE REPORT

We report the case of 65-year-old patient admitted to our hospital with signs and symptoms of acute abdomen. Findings were suggestive of left ovary torsion due to the neoplasm. After detorsion, mobilization, and adhesiolysis, a bilateral adnexectomy was performed. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis of the left ovarian tumor was performed and diagnosis of diffuse large B‑cell lymphoma (DLBCL) with a GCB (germinal center B‑cell-like) phenotype was made. Additional bone marrow biopsy and imaging techniques excluded other sites of involvement, confirming diagnosis of primary ovarian DLBCL.

CONCLUSION

The prognosis of ovarian lymphomas may be poorer than for other lymphomas because of late diagnosis. The best treatment option appears to be systemic chemotherapy.

Lymphoblastic Lymphoma Presenting as Bilateral Ovarian Mass in an Adolescent Girl

BACKGROUND

Lymphomas rarely involve the genital tract and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) presenting as ovarian tumor is rare. Precursor B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma arising from the ovary is extremely rare and to our knowledge, only 5 cases have been reported in the literature.

CASE

A 15-year-old girl presented with bilateral ovarian masses, which, on biopsy proved to be precursor B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma. She was treated with a Berlin-Frankfurt-Munster 90 protocol and she is alive in complete remission for more than 10 years.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

NHL of the ovary should also be considered as a differential diagnosis in adolescent and young adults with ovarian masses. Attempt to make a preoperative diagnosis is crucial because ovarian NHL responds well to chemotherapy and has a good prognosis.

Primary Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma of the Ovary - A Case Report

The ovarian lymphoma is rare. Lymphoma presenting as an ovarian mass with initial manifestation is even rarer. We report a case of primary Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL) of left ovary in a 52-year-old female presented with distension of abdomen and lower abdominal back pain. USG and CT-scan imaging suggested provisional diagnosis of ovarian tumour. The diagnosis of malignant lymphoma was made by histopathological examination of the excised tissue along with immunohistochemistry by using LCA, CD20, cytokeratin & CD3. The tumour was classified as diffuse large B cell lymphoma. Rarity of this lesion warrants its mention.

Primary ovarian non-Hodgkin lymphoma: Diagnosis of two cases on fine needle aspiration cytology

Lymphoma of the female genital tract is a rare condition. Involvement of the ovary by non- Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is usually secondary to systemic disease and primary ovarian lymphomas are unusual. In most cases, the diagnosis is not suspected initially and is confirmed only after detailed histopathological evaluation. We describe two cases of primary ovarian NHL which were diagnosed on fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). One of the patients was a 40 years old female who presented with abdominal distension and lump. She was found to have bilateral adnexal masses on ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) scan. A USG guided fine needle aspiration of the ovarian masses was performed, following which a diagnosis of primary ovarian diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was established. The second patient was a 14 years old female who presented with pelvic lump, which was lobulated and mildly enhancing on contrast enhanced CT. A diagnosis of high grade NHL of ovaries was made on cytology. Subsequently, the lymphoma was characterized as Burkitt's on histopathological examination. Both the patients were started on R-CHOP chemotherapy regimen. FNAC serves as an extremely useful minimally invasive procedure for the diagnosis of ovarian lymphomas and early institution of appropriate chemotherapeutic regimens.

Five cases of non-hodgkin B-cell lymphoma of the ovary

The involvement of the ovary in lymphomatous process is rare. Such an involvement may occur in 2 ways, primary or secondary. We report 5 cases of ovarian non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, with 3 of which primarily arising in the ovaries. Ovarian lymphoma can mimic more frequently occurring tumors including advanced epithelial carcinoma and radical surgery may be performed instead of a biopsy. The immunophenotypic and clinicopathologic features exhibited in this small series are described to call attention to early diagnosis and treatment of ovarian lymphoma. All patients were diagnosed as having DLBCL after ovary biopsy. Different treatment modalities were used and prognosis of the patients was reported.

Natural history of primary precursor B lymphoblastic lymphoma of the ovary: report of a rare case

The involvement of the ovaries in lymphomatous processes is a relatively rare phenomenon. Secondary involvement as a part of systemic disease is common as compared to de novo primary lymphoma. Mostly, primary ovarian lymphomas are diffuse large B cell type, whereas the precursor lymphoblastic lymphomas are extremely rare and only four cases have been reported previously. We herein describe a case of primary precursor B lymphoblastic lymphoma involving both ovaries in a 28-year-old woman which was detected incidentally and spread into the blood after 7 months; consequently she succumbed to the disease.

Ovarian lymphoma

The involvement of the ovary in lymphomatous processes is rare. Such an involvement can occur in 2 ways, either primary or secondary, which usually presents with abdominal or pelvic complaints. We present a case of secondary involvement of the ovary with occult extra-ovarian nodal disease and discuss the histogenesis of ovarian lymphomas with criteria for diagnosis and differential diagnosis.
