MRI and FDG PET/CT Findings of Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma of the Prostate

18 F-FDG PET/CT Imaging of Prostatic Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma

ABSTRACT

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma of the prostate is a rare malignant vasogenic tumor. We report a case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma of the prostate in a 65-year-old man with lymph nodes and lung metastases on 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging. The patient presented with symptoms of frequent and urgent urination. On 18 F-FDG PET/CT, intense FDG uptake was observed in the prostate mass along with multiple FDG-avid lesions involving the lung and lymph nodes. Histopathological examination confirmed epithelioid hemangioendothelioma in both the prostate mass and lung nodule.

18F-FDG PET/CT Imaging of Prostate Stromal Tumor of Uncertain Malignant Potential

ABSTRACT

A 79-year-old man presented with dysuria and increased serum prostate-specific antigen level (21 ng/mL). MRI revealed bulky prostate enlargement but was inconclusive in revealing neoplastic lesions. Nevertheless, because of high clinical suspicion for neoplasm, transrectal biopsy revealed stromal tumor of uncertain malignant potential mixed with foci of low-grade primitive prostate stromal sarcoma. 18F-FDG PET/CT showed high FDG uptake consistent with neoplasm in the lower part of the hypertrophic prostate gland and focal areas of elevated FDG uptake, consistent with metastases in the spine, ribs, and femur.

Prostatic stromal sarcoma: A case report and literature review

RATIONALE

prostatic stromal sarcoma is a very rare malignant tumor that accounts for <0.1% of prostate malignancy. PATIENT CONCERNS:: we reported a 49-year-old man presented with dysuria and hematuria, whose computed tomography examination showed an enlarged prostate gland with an irregular shape. DIAGNOSES:: the diagnosis was confirmed on the basis of imaging manifestations and histopathological findings which were proved as prostatic stromal sarcoma.

INTERVENTIONS

The patient underwent radical prostatectomy OUTCOMES:: his postoperative condition was good.

Soft-Tissue Sarcomas: An Update for Radiologists Based on the Revised 2013 World Health Organization Classification

OBJECTIVE

Soft-tissue sarcomas are a diverse group of malignancies, and our rapidly improving understanding of their molecular pathogenesis and treatment is leading to better clinical outcomes. The revised 2013 World Health Organization (WHO) classification of soft-tissue sarcomas introduced several important changes. We provide a comprehensive overview of the relevant changes for radiologists.

CONCLUSION

Rapid advances in the understanding of the pathogenesis and molecular biology of soft-tissue sarcomas led to major revisions in the 2013 WHO classification. To provide optimal multidisciplinary patient care, radiologists must remain up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of soft-tissue sarcomas to best correlate the histologic and imaging features of the various types of tumors and understand the unique patterns of treatment response and disease recurrence.

Metastatic Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma Infiltrating Sigmoid Colon: A Case Diagnosed With the Help of 18F-FDG PET/CT

Metastatic malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) in the colon is extremely rare, although MFH is one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas in adults. We report the case of a 45-year-old woman with metastatic MFH in the sigmoid colon, descending colon, and right lung with FDG PET/CT findings.

Metastatic Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma in the Stomach: Imaging With 18F-FDG PET/CT

Metastatic malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) in the stomach is extremely rare. We report a 73-year-old man with MFH in the left popliteal fossa that metastasized to the stomach. Whole-body F-FDG PET/CT showed abnormal tracer uptakes in the stomach, which was subsequently confirmed as metastatic MFH.

Value of FDG PET/CT in Patient Management and Outcome of Skeletal and Soft Tissue Sarcomas

Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-PET/computed tomography (CT) has been increasingly used in bone and soft tissue sarcomas and provides advantages in the initial tumor staging, tumor grading, therapy assessment, and recurrence detection. FDG-PET/CT metabolic parameters are reliable predictors of survival in sarcomas and could be implemented in risk stratification models along with other prognostic factors in these patients.
