Abstract
OBJECTIVE To develop an appropriate Chinese version of the CLEFT-Q through translation and cultural adaptation and to evaluate its reliability and validity. DESIGN The English CLEFT-Q was translated into Chinese following the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research guidelines, including cognitive debriefing interviews, and its reliability and validity were assessed. PARTICIPANTS Patients (N = 246) were mostly in active orthodontic treatment, had a mean age of 14.7 ± 4.4 years, 29% were female, and were born with isolated cleft lip ± alveolus (12%), cleft palate (1%), or cleft lip and palate (87%). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The Chinese CLEFT-Q, including 13 subscales covering Appearance, Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL), and Facial Function. Criterion validity instruments included the Negative Physical Self, Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Scale of Positive and Negative Experience. RESULTS The wording of 67 items was adapted in the final translation. The internal consistency of the Chinese version of the CLEFT-Q was high based on Cronbach's alphas of 0.85 to 0.98 and split-half reliability of 0.85 to 0.92. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses yielded three factors, which demonstrated construct validity by broadly matching the structure of the original CLEFT-Q. The Appearance and HRQOL dimensions had weak to moderate correlations (r = -0.35 to 0.67) with the corresponding instruments for criterion validity. CONCLUSIONS The Chinese version of the CLEFT-Q is a patient-reported outcome measure that can reflect the quality of life of Chinese patients with cleft lip and/or palate with good reliability and validity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to determine if children born with cleft lip and/or palate are at increased risk of psychological and peer difficulties, and if so, which difficulties they develop. METHODS EMBASE, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO were searched for English language studies published between January 2005 and January 2022 which investigated the psychological outcomes and peer function of children with nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate. Outcomes included internalizing problems, such as anxiety and depression, externalizing problems, such as hyperactivity, conduct disorders, self-concept including self-image and self-esteem, peer problems, resilience, coping, and overall psychological function. A risk of bias assessment was performed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Random effects models were used in the meta-analysis to compare the outcomes for children born with a cleft and those without. RESULTS In total 41 studies met inclusion criteria, with 9 included in the meta-analysis. Children born with a cleft appear to have similar psychological outcomes compared to normative controls when using the strengths and difficulties questionnaire. There are some minor differences between self-report and parent report, with parents generally reporting that their child with a cleft has increased emotional, conduct, and hyperactivity problems. The small differences between the study cohort and control cohorts are unlikely to imply any differences on a clinical level. CONCLUSIONS Overall psychological outcomes appear to be similar between children born with a cleft and the nonaffected population, however, some symptoms such as anxiety and depression appear higher in children with cleft lip and/or palate.

Abstract
The effect of preaxial polydactyly of the foot on health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) has not been investigated in current literature. To improve counseling, we investigated HR-QoL in this patient group. A patient-control study was performed with children with preaxial polydactyly ( n = 20), adults with preaxial polydactyly ( n = 15), children with postaxial polydactyly ( n = 15) and healthy controls ( n = 62). The primary outcome was the difference in the foot-specific quality of life (FS-QoL) between children with preaxial polydactyly and adults with preaxial polydactyly, children with postaxial polydactyly and controls, using the Oxford Ankle and Foot Questionnaire (OxAFQ-c) and five foot-specific visual analogue scales (VAS). The secondary outcome was the difference in general HR-QoL, using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). Outcomes were compared with the Mann-Whitney-U test. Comparison between children with preaxial polydactyly and healthy controls and postaxial polydactyly showed worse outcomes in all OxAFQ-c domains. The foot-specific VAS score was significantly worse in children with preaxial polydactyly compared to postaxial polydactyly and controls. Only the PedsQL physical domain showed a lower outcome in children with preaxial polydactyly than in postaxial polydactyly and controls. Children and adults with preaxial polydactyly scored the same in all domains. The OxAFQ-c and the PedsQL physical domain showed significantly worse outcomes in children with preaxial polydactyly compared with healthy controls and postaxial polydactyly. However, large variation was observed, suggesting large differences between patients. In children and adults, the foot and scar appearance seems to be the biggest problem, while diminished foot function seems less of an issue.

Abstract
(1) Objective: To investigate the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and self-esteem (SE) of a population with cleft lip and/or palate (CLP) and to compare it with a non-affected control cohort. (2) Materials and methods: This study comprised 91 CLP patients and a control group of 790 individuals, seeking orthodontic treatment. OHRQoL and SE were assessed by the Child’s Perception Questionnaire (CPQ) and the Dutch adaptation of the Harter’s Self-Perception Profile for Adolescents. Treatment need and self-perception of oral aesthetic were assessed using the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) and the Oral Aesthetic Subjective Impact Scale (OASIS). Patients’ expectations and motivation for treatment were also scored. Linear models were used for statistical comparisons between groups. (3) Results: The cleft group scored higher in all domains of the CPQ, OASIS, IOTN and regarding SE for the domains of scholastic competence, athletic competence, physical appearance and behavioral conduct. The cleft group was not only more motivated and expected less discomfort during treatment but also had higher expectations for the treatment outcome. (4) Conclusions: The OHRQoL of CLP patients is strongly correlated with the presence of an oral cleft, while SE remains a personal resource not influenced by the malocclusion or medical condition.

Abstract
Objectives This study aimed to examine Oral Health‐related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) among patients with cleft lip with or without palate (CLP) at their final scheduled follow‐up visit at the age of 18 years. Another aim was to investigate the motivation to attend multiple follow‐up appointments and the satisfaction with care given by the cleft team using inductive qualitative analysis. Methods This cross‐sectional study was conducted among the cohort of children born with CLP who had undergone treatment at the Oulu University Hospital Cleft Lip and Palate Centre, in northern Finland since 1995. OHRQoL was assessed using the validated Finnish version of the short form of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP‐14). In addition to the OHIP‐14, two open‐ended questions were also included. These questions investigated the experience of each participant concerning their motivation to attend the Oulu University Hospital Cleft Lip and Palate Centre to receive complex treatments, and their satisfaction with care provided by the cleft team. Results were presented as proportions, means, and SD. Inductive content analysis method was performed for analysis of the open‐ended questions. Results A total of 63 patients with CLP participated in this study. More than half of the participants had cleft palate. More than half of the participants reported an impact on OHRQoL (OHIP‐14 score ≥ 3). All the participants with bilateral cleft lip and palate, three fourths of the participants with unilateral cleft lip and palate, and half of the participants with cleft palate reported impact on OHRQoL. Inductive content analysis showed that one fourth of the participants reported a good outcome as a motivation to attend cleft center despite of complex procedures. All the participants reported their appreciation of the cleft team. Conclusions Despite the comprehensive treatment received by the patients born with a CLP, they still experienced lower OHRQoL, especially physical pain and psychological discomfort were more pronounced. However, good outcome, support, and oral health care being a normal routine were the motivating factors to attend a long and demanding oral health care regimen.
