Validation of publication of new names and new combinations previously effectively published outside the IJSEM

Paraliobacillus salinarum sp. nov., isolated from saline soil in Yingkou, China

A novel Gram-stain-positive, facultatively aerobic, slightly halophilic, endospore-forming bacterium, designated G6-18^T, was isolated from saline soil collected in Yingkou, Liaoning, PR China. Cells of strain G6-18^T grew at 10-37 °C (optimum, 30 °C), at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum, pH 8.0) and in the presence of 2-15 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 5 %). The strain could be clearly distinguished from the related species of the genus Paraliobacillus by its phylogenetic position and biochemical characteristics. It presented MK-7 as the major quinone and the dominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C_16 : 0, anteiso-C_15 : 0, C_16 : 0 and iso-C_14 : 0. The polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol as the major components. The G+C content of strain G6-18^T genome was 35.3 mol%. 16S rRNA analysis showed that strain G6-18^T had the highest similarity to Paraliobacillus ryukyuensis DSM 15140^T, reaching 97.0 %, followed by Paraliobacillus quinghaiensis CGMCC 1.6333^T with a value of 96.3 %. The average nucleotide identity values between strain G6-18^T and Paraliobacillus ryukyuensis DSM 15140^T, Paraliobacillus sedimins KCTC 33762^T, Paraliobacillus quinghaiensis CGMCC 1.6333^T and Paraliobacillus zengyii DSM 107811^T were 74.3, 72.0, 73.2 and 72.8 %, respectively, and the digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain G6-18^T and the neighbouring strains were 15.6, 13.8, 14.2 and 14.2 %, respectively. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic inferences, strain G6-18^T represents a novel species of the genus Paraliobacillus, for which the name Paraliobacillus salinarum sp. nov. (=CGMCC 1.12058^T=DSM 25428^T) is proposed.

Parageobacillus thermantarcticus, an Antarctic Cell Factory: From Crop Residue Valorization by Green Chemistry to Astrobiology Studies

Knowledge of Antarctic habitat biodiversity, both marine and terrestrial, has increased considerably in recent years, causing considerable development in the studies of life science related to Antarctica. In the Austral summer 1986–1987, a new thermophilic bacterium, Parageobacillus thermantarcticus strain M1 was isolated from geothermal soil of the crater of Mount Melbourne (74°22′ S, 164°40′ E) during the Italian Antarctic Expedition. In addition to the biotechnological potential due to the production of exopolysaccharides and thermostable enzymes, successful studies have demonstrated its use in the green chemistry for the transformation and valorization of residual biomass and its employment as a suitable microbial model for astrobiology studies. The recent acquisition of its genome sequence opens up new opportunities for the use of this versatile bacterium in still unexplored biotechnology sectors.

Genomic information of the arsenic-resistant bacterium Lysobacter arseniciresistens type strain ZS79(T) and comparison of Lysobacter draft genomes

Lysobacter arseniciresistens ZS79(T) is a highly arsenic-resistant,rod-shaped, motile, non-spore-forming, aerobic, Gram-negative bacterium. In this study, four Lysobacter type strains were sequenced and the genomic information of L. arseniciresistens ZS79(T) and the comparative genomics results of the Lysobacter strains were described. The draft genome sequence of the strain ZS79(T) consists of 3,086,721 bp and is distributed in 109 contigs. It has a G+C content of 69.5 % and contains 2,363 protein-coding genes including eight arsenic resistant genes.

Complete genome sequence of Truepera radiovictrix type strain (RQ-24)

Truepera radiovictrix Albuquerque et al. 2005 is the type species of the genus Truepera within the phylum “Deinococcus/Thermus”. T. radiovictrix is of special interest not only because of its isolated phylogenetic location in the order Deinococcales, but also because of its ability to grow under multiple extreme conditions in alkaline, moderately saline, and high temperature habitats. Of particular interest is the fact that, T. radiovictrix is also remarkably resistant to ionizing radiation, a feature it shares with members of the genus Deinococcus. This is the first completed genome sequence of a member of the family Trueperaceae and the fourth type strain genome sequence from a member of the order Deinococcales. The 3,260,398 bp long genome with its 2,994 protein-coding and 52 RNA genes consists of one circular chromosome and is a part of the Genomic Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea project.
