Abstract
Chemical control of Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) based on the use of insecticides is particularly challenging as the insect attacks ripening fruits shortly before harvest. An alternative strategy may rely on the use of yeasts as phagostimulants and baits, applied on canopy as attract-and-kill formulations. The aim of this research was to identify the most attractive among six yeast species for D. suzukii: Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Hanseniaspora uvarum, Clavispora santaluciae, Saccharomycopsis vini, Issatchenkia terricola, and Metschnikowia pulcherrima. The volatile profile of C. santaluciae was described for the first time. Behavioural experiments identified H. uvarum and S. vini as the most attractive yeasts. The characterization of yeast headspace volatiles using direct headspace (DHS) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME) revealed several strain-specific compounds. With DHS injection, 19 volatiles were characterised, while SPME revealed 71 compounds constituting the yeast headspace. Both analyses revealed terpenoids including β-ocimene, citronellol, (Z)-geraniol (nerol), and geranial as distinct constituents of S. vini. H. uvarum and S. vini were further investigated using closed-loop stripping analysis (CSLA) and electroantennography. Out of 14 compounds quantified by CSLA, ethyl acetate, isoamyl acetate, β-myrcene, benzaldehyde and linalool were detected by D. suzukii antennae and might generate the strong attractiveness of S. vini and H. uvarum. Our results highlight a strong attraction of D. suzukii to various yeasts associated with both the flies and their habitat and demonstrate how different sampling methods can impact the results of volatile compound characterization. It remains to be demonstrated whether the distinct attraction is based on special adaptations to certain yeasts and to what extent the metabolites causing attraction are interchangeable.

Abstract
Compared to agrochemicals, bioinoculants based on plant microbiomes are a sustainable option for increasing crop yields and soil fertility. From the Mexican maize landrace "Raza cónico" (red and blue varieties), we identified yeasts and evaluated in vitro their ability to promote plant growth. Auxin production was detected from yeast isolates and confirmed using Arabidopsis thaliana plants. Inoculation tests were performed on maize, and morphological parameters were measured. Eighty-seven yeast strains were obtained (50 from blue corn and 37 from red corn). These were associated with three families of Ascomycota (Dothideaceae, Debaryomycetaceae, and Metschnikowiaceae) and five families of Basidiomycota (Sporidiobolaceae, Filobasidiaceae, Piskurozymaceae, Tremellaceae, and Rhynchogastremataceae), and, in turn, distributed in 10 genera (Clavispora, Rhodotorula, Papiliotrema, Candida, Suhomyces, Soliccocozyma, Saitozyma Holtermaniella, Naganishia, and Aeurobasidium). We identified strains that solubilized phosphate and produced siderophores, proteases, pectinases, and cellulases but did not produce amylases. Solicoccozyma sp. RY31, C. lusitaniae Y11, R. glutinis Y23, and Naganishia sp. Y52 produced auxins from L-Trp (11.9-52 µg/mL) and root exudates (1.3-22.5 µg/mL). Furthermore, they stimulated the root development of A. thaliana. Inoculation of auxin-producing yeasts caused a 1.5-fold increase in maize plant height, fresh weight, and root length compared to uninoculated controls. Overall, maize landraces harbor plant growth-promoting yeasts and have the potential for use as agricultural biofertilizers.

Abstract
Species in the genus Clavispora have previously been reported primarily in the northeast and northwest regions of China; the species diversity of Clavispora in central China is not currently clear. In this study, phylogenetic inferences of Clavispora based on sequences of a single-locus (LSU D1/D2) and a two-locus (LSU D1/D2 and ITS) were conducted. Two new species isolated from rotting wood in central China, namely Clavispora xylosa sp. nov. and Clavispora paralusitaniae sp. nov., were delimited and proposed based on morphological and molecular evidence. Cl. xylosa was closely related to C. thailandica CBS 10610T, but with 11.5% divergence in the LSU D1/D2 domains and 11.5% divergence in the ITS regions. Cl. paralusitaniae was a sister to Cl. lusitaniae CBS 6936T from which it differs with 4.7% divergence in the LSU D1/D2 domains and 5.4% divergence in the ITS regions. Description of Cl. xylosa sp. nov. and Cl. paralusitaniae sp. nov. was also supported by morphological comparisons and genomic analyses between the two new species and their closest relatives, C. thailandica CBS 10610T and Cl. lusitaniae CBS 6936T. These results indicate a potentially great diversity of Clavispora spp. inhabiting rotting wood in central China, ripe for future discovery.

Abstract
Inflammation of the cornea is known as keratitis, and bacteria, fungi, protozoans, and viruses are the etiological agents of this disease. Delayed treatment of keratitis could result in loss of vision and, under certain severity conditions, the removal of an eye and its associated structures. In the current study, the ocular surface (conjunctiva and cornea) mycobiomes of individuals with bacterial keratitis were compared with the ocular mycobiome (conjunctiva) of healthy individuals, free of any ocular morbidity. Mycobiomes were generated through NGS approach using conjunctival swabs and corneal scrapings as the source of DNA from which ITS2 was amplified and sequenced, as a proxy to identify fungi. The results indicated significant changes in the alpha-diversity indices and in the abundance at the phylum and genera level. Hierarchical clustering using a heatmap showed that the mycobiomes were different. Furthermore, NMDS plots also differentiated the mycobiomes in the three cohorts, implying dysbiosis in the mycobiomes of the conjunctivae and corneal scrapings of bacterial keratitis individuals compared to control individuals. A preponderance of negative interactions in the hub genera in the conjunctival swabs of bacterial keratitis individuals compared to healthy controls further re-emphasized the differences in the mycobiomes. The dysbiotic changes at the genera level in conjunctivae and corneal scrapings of bacterial keratitis individuals are discussed with respect to their possible role in causing or exacerbating ocular surface inflammation. These results demonstrate dysbiosis in the ocular mycobiome in bacterial keratitis patients compared to healthy controls for the first time.

Analysis of the Fungi Community Variation during Rice Storage through High Throughput Sequencing. Processes (Basel) 2022. Abstract
Rice storage conditions include location, granary depth, storage time, temperature and atmosphere. The fungi community varies during storage, but how these communities change remains unexplored so far. This study collected rice samples from granaries in different horizontal and vertical directions and storage time over two years. High-throughput ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer) sequencing analysis revealed that Ascomycota (73.81%), Basidiomycota (6.56%) and Mucoromycota (9.42%) were the main Eumycota present during rice storage. The main fungi communities were Aspergillus sp., Fusarium sp., Rhizopus sp., Gibberella sp., Tilletia sp. and Penicillium sp. The contribution of storage time, horizontal orientation and vertical depth effect on fungi community relative abundance were 17.18%, 5.98% and 0.11%, respectively. Aspergillus sp. was the predominant Eubacterium during this process. The horizontal A was mainly occupied by Paraconiothyrium sp. and the location S, had Clavispora sp. Both of these varied dramatically during storage. Furthermore, Aspergillus sp., as a main mycotoxin producer, was the dominant fungi at vertical L1. This study comprehensively analyzed fungi community variation in horizontal and vertical directions to elucidate fungi community variation on rice during storage and to find the detrimental fungi. Therefore, it is important to improve granary ventilation systems and to ensure a uniform atmosphere to control fungi growth.

Abstract
Clavispora santaluciae was recently described as a novel non-Saccharomyces yeast species, isolated from grapes of Azores vineyards, a Portuguese archipelago with particular environmental conditions, and from Italian grapes infected with Drosophila suzukii. In the present work, the genome of five Clavispora santaluciae strains was sequenced, assembled, and annotated for the first time, using robust pipelines, and a combination of both long- and short-read sequencing platforms. Genome comparisons revealed specific differences between strains of Clavispora santaluciae reflecting their isolation in two separate ecological niches—Azorean and Italian vineyards—as well as mechanisms of adaptation to the intricate and arduous environmental features of the geographical location from which they were isolated. In particular, relevant differences were detected in the number of coding genes (shared and unique) and transposable elements, the amount and diversity of non-coding RNAs, and the enzymatic potential of each strain through the analysis of their CAZyome. A comparative study was also conducted between the Clavispora santaluciae genome and those of the remaining species of the Metschnikowiaceae family. Our phylogenetic and genomic analysis, comprising 126 yeast strains (alignment of 2362 common proteins) allowed the establishment of a robust phylogram of Metschnikowiaceae and detailed incongruencies to be clarified in the future.

Abstract
Non-Saccharomyces yeast species are nowadays recognized for their impact on wine´s chemical composition and sensorial properties. In addition, new interest has been given to the commercial exploitation of non-Saccharomyces starter cultures in the wine sector. However, over many years, these yeast species were considered sources of contamination in wine production and conservation, mainly due to the high levels of volatile acidity obtained. The present manuscript systematizes 80 years of literature describing non-Saccharomyces yeast species isolated from grapes and/or grape musts. A link between each reference, the accepted taxonomic name of each species and their geographical occurrence is presented, compiling information for 293 species, in a total of 231 citations. One major focus of this work relates to the isolation of non-Saccharomyces yeasts from grapevines usually ignored in most sampling studies, also as isolation from damaged grapes. These particular niches are sources of specific yeast species, which are not identified in most other explored environments. These yeasts have high potential to be explored for important and diversified biotechnological applications.
