Abstract
The non-adiabatic quantum dynamics of the H + H2 + → H2 + H+ charge transfer reactions, and some isotopic variants, is studied with an accurate wave packet method. A recently developed 3 × 3 diabatic potential model is used, which is based on very accurate ab initio calculations and includes the long-range interactions for ground and excited states. It is found that for initial H2 +(v = 0), the quasi-degenerate H2(v' = 4) non-reactive charge transfer product is enhanced, producing an increase in the reaction probability and cross section. It becomes the dominant channel from collision energies above 0.2 eV, producing a ratio between v' = 4 and the rest of v's, which that increase up to 1 eV. The H + H2 + → H2 + + H exchange reaction channel is nearly negligible, while the reactive and non-reactive charge transfer reaction channels are of the same order, except that corresponding to H2(v' = 4), and the two charge transfer processes compete below 0.2 eV. This enhancement is expected to play an important vibrational and isotopic effect that needs to be evaluated. For the three proton case, the problem of the permutation symmetry is discussed when using reactant Jacobi coordinates.

Abstract
The molecular ion H(3)(+) is the simplest polyatomic and poly-electronic molecular system, and its spectrum constitutes an important benchmark for which precise answers can be obtained ab initio from the equations of quantum mechanics. Significant progress in the computation of the ro-vibrational spectrum of H(3)(+) is discussed. A new, global potential energy surface (PES) based on ab initio points computed with an average accuracy of 0.01 cm(-1) relative to the non-relativistic limit has recently been constructed. An analytical representation of these points is provided, exhibiting a standard deviation of 0.097 cm(-1). Problems with earlier fits are discussed. The new PES is used for the computation of transition frequencies. Recently measured lines at visible wavelengths combined with previously determined infrared ro-vibrational data show that an accuracy of the order of 0.1 cm(-1) is achieved by these computations. In order to achieve this degree of accuracy, relativistic, adiabatic and non-adiabatic effects must be properly accounted for. The accuracy of these calculations facilitates the reassignment of some measured lines, further reducing the standard deviation between experiment and theory.

Abstract
The first high resolution spectroscopic data for jet cooled H2DO+ are reported, specifically via infrared laser direct absorption in the OH stretching region with a slit supersonic jet discharge source. Transitions sampling upper (0-) and lower (0+) tunneling states for both symmetric (nu1+ <-- 0+, nu1- <-- 0-, and nu1- <-- 0+) and antisymmetric (nu3+ <-- 0+ and nu3- <-- 0-) OH stretching bands are observed, where +/- refers to wave function reflection symmetry with respect to the planar umbrella mode transition state. The spectra can be well fitted to a Watson asymmetric top Hamiltonian, revealing band origins and rotational constants for benchmark comparison with high-level ab initio theory. Of particular importance are detection and assignment of the relatively weak band (nu1- <-- 0+) that crosses the inversion tunneling gap, which is optically forbidden in H3O+ or D3O+, but weakly allowed in H2DO+ by lowering of the tunneling transition state symmetry from D(3h) to C(2v). In conjunction with other H2DO+ bands, this permits determination of the tunneling splittings to within spectroscopic precision for each of the ground [40.518(10) cm(-1)], nu1 = 1 [32.666(6) cm(-1)], and nu3 = 1 [25.399(11) cm(-1)] states. A one-dimensional zero-point energy corrected potential along the tunneling coordinate is constructed from high-level ab initio CCSD(T) calculations (AVnZ, n = 3,4,5) and extrapolated to the complete basis set limit to extract tunneling splittings via a vibrationally adiabatic treatment. Perturbative scaling of the potential to match splittings for all four isotopomers permits an experimental estimate of DeltaV0 = 652.9(6) cm(-1) for the tunneling barrier, in good agreement with full six-dimensional ab initio results of Rajamaki, Miani, and Halonen (RMH) [J. Chem. Phys. 118, 10929 (2003)]. (DeltaV0 (RMH) = 650 cm(-1)). The 30%-50% decrease in tunneling splitting observed upon nu1 and nu3 vibrational excitations arises from an increase in OH stretch frequencies at the planar transition state, highlighting the transition between sp2 and sp3 hybridizations of the OHD bonds as a function of inversion bending angle.

Abstract
Fourier transform emission spectra of D2O vapor were recorded at a temperature of 1500 degrees C in the wavenumber range 380-1880 cm(-1). 15 346 lines were measured, of which the majority were identified as belonging to D2O. The spectrum was analyzed using variational nuclear motion calculations based on spectroscopically determined potential-energy surfaces. Initial assignments were made using a potential surface obtained by fitting a high accuracy ab initio potential. The new assignments were used to refine the potential surface, resulting in additional assignments. A total of 6400 D2O transitions were assigned and 2144 new D2O energy levels were obtained. Transitions involving the 4nu2 and 5nu2 bending states, with band origins of 4589.30 (+/-0.02) and 5679.6 (+/-0.1) cm(-1), respectively, were assigned for the first time.

Abstract
A large experimental spectroscopic data set sensitive to the cubic anharmonic potential energy surface (PES) of methyl fluoride has been compiled from the literature for six symmetric and asymmetric top isotopomers of methyl fluoride: 12CH3F, 13CH3FF, 12CD3F, 13CD3F, 12CHD2F and 12CH2DF. This empirical data set has been used to critically assess the best available literature ab initio cubic force field and various 'improved' theoretical force fields. A perturbation-resonance approach to the calculation of the observables from the force constants has been utilized and existing PESs were found to reproduce the data poorly. The careful treatment required for the correct theoretical reproduction of empirical spectroscopic constants arising from highly correlated least-squares fits to the original data is discussed. A new fit to the data has been performed (optimising 19 of the 38 cubic force constants) resulting in a much improved PES. The latter has been used to predict currently unknown spectroscopic constants for the least well-characterised isotopomer 12CH2DF. The prospects for a future empirical determination of the complete cubic force field of methyl fluoride are discussed and new data most likely to yield new information on the PES identified.

Abstract
The infrared spectrum of hot water observed in a sunspot has been assigned. The high temperature of the sunspot (3200 K) gave rise to a highly congested pure rotational spectrum in the 10-micrometer region that involved energy levels at least halfway to dissociation. Traditional spectroscopy, based on perturbation theory, is inadequate for this problem. Instead, accurate variational solutions of the vibration-rotation Schrödinger equation were used to make assignments, revealing unexpected features, including rotational difference bands and fewer degeneracies than anticipated. These results indicate that a shift away from perturbation theory to first principles calculations is necessary in order to assign spectra of hot polyatomic molecules such as water.
