Renormalization group as a Koopman operator

Koopman operator theory is shown to be directly related to the renormalization group. This observation allows us, with no assumption of translational invariance, to compute the critical exponents η and δ, as well as ratios of critical exponents, of classical spin systems from single observables alone. This broadens the types of problems that the renormalization group framework can be applied to and establish universality classes of. In addition, this connection may allow for a new, data-driven way in which to find the renormalization group fixed point(s), and their relevant and irrelevant directions.

Ising spin glasses in two dimensions: Universality and nonuniversality

Following numerous earlier studies, extensive simulations and analyses were made on the continuous interaction distribution Gaussian model and the discrete bimodal interaction distribution Ising spin glass (ISG) models in two dimensions [Lundow and Campbell, Phys. Rev. E 93, 022119 (2016)1539-375510.1103/PhysRevE.93.022119]. Here we further analyze the bimodal and Gaussian data together with data on two other continuous interaction distribution two-dimensional ISG models, the uniform and the Laplacian models, and three other discrete interaction distribution models, a diluted bimodal model, an "antidiluted" model, and a more exotic symmetric Poisson model. Comparisons between the three continuous distribution models show that not only do they share the same exponent η≡0 but that to within the present numerical precision they share the same critical exponent ν also, and so lie in a single universality class. On the other hand the critical exponents of the four discrete distribution models are not the same as those of the continuous distributions, and the present data strongly indicate that they differ from one discrete distribution model to another. This is evidence that discrete distribution ISG models in two dimensions have nonzero values of the critical exponent η and do not lie in a single universality class.

How hot? Systematic convergence of the replica exchange method using multiple reservoirs

We have devised a systematic approach to converge a replica exchange molecular dynamics simulation by dividing the full temperature range into a series of higher temperature reservoirs and a finite number of lower temperature subreplicas. A defined highest temperature reservoir of equilibrium conformations is used to help converge a lower but still hot temperature subreplica, which in turn serves as the high-temperature reservoir for the next set of lower temperature subreplicas. The process is continued until an optimal temperature reservoir is reached to converge the simulation at the target temperature. This gradual convergence of subreplicas allows for better and faster convergence at the temperature of interest and all intermediate temperatures for thermodynamic analysis, as well as optimizing the use of multiple processors. We illustrate the overall effectiveness of our multiple reservoir replica exchange strategy by comparing sampling and computational efficiency with respect to replica exchange, as well as comparing methods when converging the structural ensemble of the disordered Abeta(21-30) peptide simulated with explicit water by comparing calculated Rotating Overhauser Effect Spectroscopy intensities to experimentally measured values.
