Quasi-Hyperbolically Symmetric γ-Metric

We carry out a systematic study on the motion of test particles in the region inner to the naked singularity of a quasi-hyperbolically symmetric γ-metric. The geodesic equations are written and analyzed in detail. The obtained results are contrasted with the corresponding results obtained for the axially symmetric γ-metric and the hyperbolically symmetric black hole. As in this latter case, it is found that test particles experience a repulsive force within the horizon (naked singularity), which prevents them from reaching the center. However, in the present case, this behavior is affected by the parameter γ which measures the departure from the hyperbolical symmetry. These results are obtained for radially moving particles as well as for particles moving in the θ-r subspace. The possible relevance of these results in the explanation of extragalactic jets is revealed.

The Shadows of Regular Black Holes with Asymptotic Minkowski Cores

We investigate the shadows cast by a sort of new regular black hole which are characterized by an asymptotic Minkowski core and sub-Planckian curvature. First, we extend the metric with spherical symmetry to the one of rotating Kerr-like black holes and derive the null geodesics with a circular orbit near the horizon of the black hole. Then, we plot the shadows of black holes with different values for the deviation parameter. It is found that the size of the shadow shrinks with the increase in the deviation parameter, while the shape of the shadow becomes more deformed. In particular, by comparing with the shadow a Bardeen black hole and Hayward black hole with the same parameter values, we find that, in general, the shadows of black holes with Minkowski cores have larger deformations than those with de Sitter cores, which potentially provides a strategy to distinguish these two sorts of regular black holes with different cores by astronomical observation in the future.

Shadow and Weak Deflection Angle of a Black Hole in Nonlocal Gravity

Black hole shadow and gravitational lensing play important roles in testing gravitational theories in the strong field regime. As the first-order modifications from quantum gravity, the nonlocality can be manifested by black hole shadow and gravitational lensing. For example, the nonlocal parameter introduced by nonlocality will affect the shape and size of the black hole shadow, and also affect the deflection angle of light rays. In this paper, we mainly investigate the effects of the nonlocality on the black hole shadow and the gravitational lensing for two types of rotating black holes in nonlocal gravity. It is found that the size of the black hole shadow decreases with the nonlocal parameter since the nonlocality weakens the gravitational constant, and the shape of the shadow becomes more deformed with the increase in the nonlocal parameter. However, if the rotation parameter is small, the shape of the shadow is almost a circle even though the nonlocal parameter approaches its maximum. The energy emission rate in both models is also studied. The results show that there is a peak for each curve and the peak decreases and shifts to the low frequency with the increase in the nonlocal parameter. In addition, we also explore the shadow of both types of black holes surrounded by a nonmagnetized pressureless plasma which satisfies the separability condition. It is found that the plasma has a frequency-dependent dispersive effect on the size and shape of the black hole shadow. For the gravitational lensing, we find that the nonlocal parameter of model A makes a positive contribution to the deflection angle, which can be compared with the contribution of the rotation parameter, while the nonlocal parameter of model B makes a negative contribution which can be ignored. These results may be helpful for probing nonlocal gravity in future observations.

Bound Orbits and Epicyclic Motions around Renormalization Group Improved Schwarzschild Black Holes

We study timelike particles’ bound orbits around renormalization group improved Schwarzschild black holes (RGISBHs), which originate from renormalization group improvement of the Einstein–Hilbert action by using the running Newton constant. By considering the secular periastron precession for the timelike particles orbiting around RGISBHs, we found that it is not feasible to distinguish such black holes from Schwarzschild ones in the weak gravitational field. However, in the strong gravitational field, periodic orbits for the particles are investigated by employing a taxonomy. This suggests that the variation of the parameters in RGISBHs can change the taxonomy. This leads to a transition from periodic motion around Schwarzschild black holes to a quasi-periodic motion around these black holes. After that, the epicyclic motions of charged particles around RGISBHs immersed in an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field are taken into account with respect to the observed twin peak quasi-periodic oscillations’ frequencies. The epicyclic motions of charged particles around such black holes in the external magnetic field can give one possible explanation for the 3:2 resonance in three low-mass X-ray binaries. Our results might provide some hints to distinguish RGISBHs from the classical black holes by using periodic orbits and epicyclic motions around the strong gravitational field.

Equatorial and Polar Quasinormal Modes and Quasiperiodic Oscillations of Quantum Deformed Kerr Black Hole

In this paper, we focus on the relation between quasinormal modes (QNMs) and a rotating black hole shadow. As a specific example, we consider the quantum deformed Kerr black hole obtained via Newman–Janis–Azreg-Aïnou algorithm. In particular, using the geometric-optics correspondence between the parameters of a QNMs and the conserved quantities along geodesics, we show that, in the eikonal limit, the real part of QNMs is related to the Keplerian frequency for equatorial orbits. To this end, we explore the typical shadow radius for the viewing angles, θ0=π/2, and obtained an interesting relation in the case of viewing angle θ0=0 (or equivalently θ0=π). Furthermore we have computed the corresponding equatorial and polar modes and the thermodynamical stability of the quantum deformed Kerr black hole. We also investigate other astrophysical applications such as the quasiperiodic oscillations and the motion of S2 star to constrain the quantum deforming parameter.

Testing Loop Quantum Gravity from Observational Consequences of Nonsingular Rotating Black Holes

The lack of rotating black hole models, which are typically found in nature, in loop quantum gravity (LQG) substantially hinders the progress of testing LQG from observations. Starting with a nonrotating LQG black hole as a seed metric, we construct a rotating spacetime using the revised Newman-Janis algorithm. The rotating solution is nonsingular everywhere and it reduces to the Kerr black hole asymptotically. In different regions of the parameter space, the solution describes (1) a wormhole without event horizon (which, we show, is almost ruled out by observations), (2) a black hole with a spacelike transition surface inside the event horizon, or (3) a black hole with a timelike transition region inside the inner horizon. It is shown how fundamental parameters of LQG can be constrained by the observational implications of the shadow cast by this object. The causal structure of our solution depends crucially only on the spacelike transition surface of the nonrotating seed metric, while being agnostic about specific details of the latter, and therefore captures universal features of an effective rotating, nonsingular black hole in LQG.
