Local-field-correction effects on the electron response functions and on the electrical conductivity in a hydrogen plasma

Structural characteristics of strongly coupled ions in a dense quantum plasma

The structural properties of strongly coupled ions in dense plasmas with moderately to strongly degenerate electrons are investigated in the framework of the one-component plasma model of ions interacting through a screened pair interaction potential. Special focus is put on the description of the electronic screening in the Singwi-Tosi-Land-Sjölander (STLS) approximation. Different cross-checks and analyses using ion potentials obtained from ground-state quantum Monte Carlo data, the random phase approximation (RPA), and existing analytical models are presented for the computation of the structural properties, such as the pair distribution and the static structure factor, of strongly coupled ions. The results are highly sensitive to the features of the screened pair interaction potential. This effect is particularly visible in the static structure factor. The applicability range of the screened potential computed from STLS is identified in terms of density and temperature of the electrons. It is demonstrated that at r_{s}>1, where r_{s} is the ratio of the mean interelectronic distance to the Bohr radius, electronic correlations beyond RPA have a nonnegligible effect on the structural properties. Additionally, the applicability of the hypernetted chain approximation for the calculation of the structural properties using the screened pair interaction potential is analyzed employing the effective coupling parameter approach.

Quasiparticle parametrization of mean fields, Galilei invariance, and universal conserving response functions

The general possible form of mean-field parametrization in a running frame in terms of current, energy, and density functionals is examined under the restrictions of Galilean invariance. It is found that only two density-dependent parameters remain which are usually condensed in a position-dependent effective mass and the self-energy formed by current and mass. The position-dependent mass induces a position-dependent local current, which is identified for different nonlinear frames. In a second step the response to an external perturbation and relaxation towards a local equilibrium is investigated. The response function is found to be universal in the sense that the actual parametrization of the local equilibrium does not matter and is eliminated from the theory due to the conservation laws. The explicit form of the response with respect to density, momentum, and energy is derived. The compressibility sum rule as well as the sum rule by first- and third-order frequency moments are proved analytically to be fulfilled simultaneously. The results are presented for Bose or Fermi systems in one, two, and three dimensions.

Dynamic properties of one-component strongly coupled plasmas: the sum-rule approach

The dynamic characteristics of strongly coupled one-component plasmas are studied within the moment approach. Our results on the dynamic structure factor and the dynamic local-field correction satisfy the sum rules and other exact relations automatically. A quantitative agreement is obtained with numerous simulation data on the plasma dynamic properties, including the dispersion and decay of collective modes. Our approach allows us to correct and complement the results previously found with other treatments.
