Abstract
The influence of YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) superconductor layer (S-layer) with a varying thickness d YBCO = 20-50 nm on the magnetic coupling between two La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 (LCMO) ferromagnet layers (F-layer, thickness d LCMO = 50 nm) in F/S/F heterostructures (HSs) was investigated by measuring global magnetization (M) in a temperature (T) range = 2-300 K and a magnetic field (H) range = 0-10 kOe. All the HSs were superconducting with the critical temperature (T C) decreasing from = 78 to 36 K with decrease in d YBCO, whereas the ferromagnetic ordering temperature T M = 250 K did not change much. Systematically measured M-H loops of all HSs at both T > T C and T < T C show three main results (a) the two step magnetic reversal above T C converts into a four step reversal below T C in HSs with d YBCO ⩾ 30 nm, (b) the magnitude and magnetic field corresponding to the additional two switching steps show characteristic evolution with T and d YBCO; and (c) the HS with d YBCO = 20 nm shows radically different behaviour, where the two step magnetic reversal above T C continues to persist below T C and converts into a single step reversal at T [Formula: see text] T C. The first two results indicate magnetostatic coupling between the magnetic domains and the vortices across the two F/S interfaces resulting in reversal dynamics different from that deep within the LCMO layers. Whereas, the result 'c' reveals indirect exchange coupling between LCMO layers through the superconducting YBCO layer, which is a clear experimental evidence of coexistence of ferromagnetism and superconductivity in nm scale F/S/F HSs expected theoretically by Sa de Melo (2003 Physica C 387 17-25).

Superconductor to Mott insulator transition in YBa2Cu3O7/LaCaMnO3 heterostructures. Sci Rep 2016; 6:33184. Abstract
The superconductor-to-insulator transition (SIT) induced by means such as external magnetic fields, disorder or spatial confinement is a vivid illustration of a quantum phase transition dramatically affecting the superconducting order parameter. In pursuit of a new realization of the SIT by interfacial charge transfer, we developed extremely thin superlattices composed of high Tc superconductor YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) and colossal magnetoresistance ferromagnet La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 (LCMO). By using linearly polarized resonant X-ray absorption spectroscopy and magnetic circular dichroism, combined with hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, we derived a complete picture of the interfacial carrier doping in cuprate and manganite atomic layers, leading to the transition from superconducting to an unusual Mott insulating state emerging with the increase of LCMO layer thickness. In addition, contrary to the common perception that only transition metal ions may respond to the charge transfer process, we found that charge is also actively compensated by rare-earth and alkaline-earth metal ions of the interface. Such deterministic control of Tc by pure electronic doping without any hindering effects of chemical substitution is another promising route to disentangle the role of disorder on the pseudo-gap and charge density wave phases of underdoped cuprates.

Abstract
The design of artificial vortex pinning landscapes is a major goal toward large scale applications of cuprate superconductors. Although disordered nanometric inclusions have shown to modify their vortex phase diagram and to produce enhancements of the critical current ( MacManus-Driscoll , J. L. ; Foltyn , S. R. ; Jia , Q. X. ; Wang , H. ; Serquis , A. ; Civale , L. ; Maiorov , B. ; Hawley , M. E. ; Maley , M. P. ; Peterson , D. E. Nat. Mater. 2004 , 3 , 439 - 443 and Yamada , Y. ; Takahashi , K. ; Kobayashi , H. ; Konishi , M. ; Watanabe , T. ; Ibi , A. ; Muroga , T. ; Miyata , S. ; Kato , T. ; Hirayama , T. ; Shiohara , Y. Appl. Phys. Lett. 2005 , 87 , 1 - 3 ), the effect of ordered oxide nanostructures remains essentially unexplored. This is due to the very small nanostructure size imposed by the short coherence length, and to the technological difficulties in the nanofabrication process. Yet, the novel phenomena occurring at oxide interfaces open a wide spectrum of technological opportunities to interplay with the superconductivity in cuprates. Here, we show that the unusual long-range suppression of the superconductivity occurring at the interface between manganites and cuprates affects vortex nucleation and provides a novel vortex pinning mechanism. In particular, we show evidence of commensurate pinning in YBCO films with ordered arrays of LCMO ferromagnetic nanodots. Vortex pinning results from the proximity induced reduction of the condensation energy at the vicinity of the magnetic nanodots, and yields an enhanced friction between the nanodot array and the moving vortex lattice in the liquid phase. This result shows that all-oxide ordered nanostructures constitute a powerful, new route for the artificial manipulation of vortex matter in cuprates.

Abstract
Here we study the electronic properties of cuprate-manganite interfaces. By means of atomic resolution electron microscopy and spectroscopy, we produce a subnanometer scale map of the transition metal oxidation state profile across the interface between the high Tc superconductor YBa2Cu3O7-δ and the colossal magnetoresistance compound (La,Ca)MnO3. A net transfer of electrons from manganite to cuprate with a peculiar nonmonotonic charge profile is observed. Model calculations rationalize the profile in terms of the competition between standard charge transfer tendencies (due to band mismatch), strong chemical bonding effects across the interface, and Cu substitution into the Mn lattice, with different characteristic length scales.

Abstract
We report a strong effect of interface-induced magnetization on the transport properties of magnetic tunnel junctions consisting of ferromagnetic manganite La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 and insulating cuprate PrBa2Cu3O7. Contrary to the typically observed steady increase of the tunnel magnetoresistance with decreasing temperature, this system exhibits a sudden anomalous decrease at low temperatures. Interestingly, this anomalous behavior can be attributed to the competition between the positive spin polarization of the manganite contacts and the negative spin-filter effect from the interface-induced Cu magnetization.

Abstract
We present a study of the proximity effect between a ferromagnet and a paramagnetic metal of varying disorder. Thin beryllium films are deposited onto a 5 nm thick layer of the ferromagnetic insulator EuS. This bilayer arrangement induces an exchange field, H(ex), of a few tesla in low-resistance Be films with sheet resistance R≪R(Q), where R(Q)=h/e2 is the quantum resistance. We show that H(ex) survives in very high-resistance films and, in fact, appears to be relatively insensitive to the Be disorder. We exploit this fact to produce a giant low-field magnetoresistance in the correlated-insulator phase of Be films with R≫R(Q).
