Quantifying Dynamical Coherence with Dynamical Entanglement

Observation of Non-Markovian Evolution of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Steering

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering is a type of characteristic nonlocal correlation and provides an important resource in quantum information tasks, especially in view of its asymmetric property. Although plenty of works on EPR steering have been reported, the study of non-Markovian evolution of EPR steering, in which the interactions between the quantum system and surrounding environment are taken into consideration, still lacks intuitive experimental evidence. Here, we experimentally observe the non-Markovian evolution of EPR steering including its sudden death and revival processes, during which the degree of memory effect plays a key role in the recovery of steering. Additionally, a strict unsteerable feature is sufficiently verified during the non-Markovian evolution within multisetting measurements. This Letter, revealing the whole evolution of EPR steering under the non-Markovian process, provides incisive insight into the applications of EPR steering in quantum open systems.

Coherence as a Resource for Shor's Algorithm

Shor's factoring algorithm provides a superpolynomial speedup over all known classical factoring algorithms. Here, we address the question of which quantum properties fuel this advantage. We investigate a sequential variant of Shor's algorithm with a fixed overall structure and identify the role of coherence for this algorithm quantitatively. We analyze this protocol in the framework of dynamical resource theories, which capture the resource character of operations that can create and detect coherence. This allows us to derive a lower and an upper bound on the success probability of the protocol, which depend on rigorously defined measures of coherence as a dynamical resource. We compare these bounds with the classical limit of the protocol and conclude that within the fixed structure that we consider, coherence is the quantum resource that determines its performance by bounding the success probability from below and above. Therefore, we shine new light on the fundamental role of coherence in quantum computation.

Experimental quantification of dynamical coherence via entangling two qubits

Coherence and entanglement are both the fundamental properties which quantify the degree of nonclassicality possessed in a quantum state. Recently coherence and entanglement are considered as a dynamical resource where the nonclassicality is strongly related to the amount of the static resources which can be generated in a quantum process. In [Phys. Rev. Lett.125, 130401 (2020)10.1103/PhysRevLett.125.130401], for the first time, the authors study the interconvertability of these two kinds of dynamical resources. Here, we demonstrate this resource conversion in an all optical setup, and successfully observe the dynamical resource conversion. The experimental observation prove the ability of manipulating dynamical resource within current quantum photonic technologies.

One-Shot Manipulation of Dynamical Quantum Resources

We develop a unified framework to characterize one-shot transformations of dynamical quantum resources in terms of resource quantifiers, establishing universal conditions for exact and approximate transformations in general resource theories. Our framework encompasses all dynamical resources represented as quantum channels, including those with a specific structure-such as boxes, assemblages, and measurements-thus immediately applying in a vast range of physical settings. For the particularly important manipulation tasks of distillation and dilution, we show that our conditions become necessary and sufficient for broad classes of important theories, enabling an exact characterization of these tasks and establishing a precise connection between operational problems and resource monotones based on entropic divergences. We exemplify our results by considering explicit applications to quantum communication, where we obtain exact expressions for one-shot quantum capacity and simulation cost assisted by no-signaling, separability-preserving, and positive partial transpose-preserving codes; as well as to nonlocality, contextuality, and measurement incompatibility, where we present operational applications of a number of relevant resource measures.
