Abstract
Sr2IrO4 with strong spin-orbit coupling and Hubbard repulsion (U) hosts Mott insulating states. The similar crystal structure and magnetic and electronic properties, particularly the d-wave gap observed in Sr2IrO4 enhanced the analogies to the cuprate high-Tc superconductor, La2CuO4. The incomplete analogy was due to the lack of broken inversion symmetry phases observed in Sr2IrO4. Here, under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions, we report a noncentrosymmetric Sr2IrO4. The crystal structure and its noncentrosymmetric character were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy. The magnetic characterization confirms the Ir4+ with S = 1/2 at low temperature in Sr2IrO4 with magnetic ordering occurring at around 86 K, where a larger moment is observed than the ambient pressure Sr2IrO4. Moreover, the resistivity measurement shows three-dimensional Mott variable-range hopping (VRH) existed in the system. This noncentrosymmetric Sr2IrO4 phase appears to be a unique material that offers a further understanding of high-Tc superconductivity.

Abstract
Superconductors with exotic physical properties are critical to current and future technology. In this review, we highlight several important superconducting families and focus on their crystal structure, chemical bonding, and superconductivity correlations. We connect superconducting materials with chemical bonding interactions based on their structure-property relationships, elucidating our empirically chemical approaches and other methods used in the discovery of new superconductors. Furthermore, we provide some technical strategies to synthesize superconductors and basic but important characterization for chemists needed when reporting new superconductors. In the end, we share our thoughts on how to make new superconductors and where chemists can work on in the superconductivity field. This review is written using chemical terms, with a focus on providing some chemically intuitive thoughts on superconducting materials design.

Abstract
In the cuprates, carrier doping of the Mott insulating parent state is necessary to realize superconductivity as well as a number of other exotic states involving charge or spin density waves. Cation substitution is the primary method for doping carriers into these compounds, and is the only known method for electron doping in these materials. Here, we report electron doping without cation substitution in epitaxially stabilized thin films of La_{2}CuO_{4} grown via molecular-beam epitaxy. We use angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to directly measure their electronic structure and conclusively determine that these compounds are electron doped with a carrier concentration of 0.09±0.02 e^{-}/Cu. We propose that intrinsic defects, most likely oxygen vacancies, are the sources of doped electrons in these materials. Our results suggest a new approach to electron doping in the cuprates, one which could lead to a more detailed experimental understanding of their properties.

Abstract
ABSTRACTWe have investigated the structure and composition of La2CuO4 (both pure and Sr-doped) and Nd(Ba2−xNdx)Cu3O7 using powder neutron diffraction. In La2−xSrxCuO4, Tc reacnes its maximum at x=0.15, after which vacancies are introduced in the 2D planes and superconductivity is destroyed. Superconductivity in La2CuO4 is not bulk. No evidence for nonstoichlometry in this material can be observed. In the Nd(Ba2−xNdx)Cu3O7 system, Tc is a complex function of oxygen ordering and electronic effects.
