Abstract
In bosonic gases at thermal equilibrium, an external quadratic drive can induce a Bose-Einstein condensation described by the Ising transition, as a consequence of the explicitly broken U(1) phase rotation symmetry down to Z_{2}. However, in physical realizations such as exciton polaritons and nonlinear photonic lattices, thermal equilibrium is lost and the state is rather determined by a balance between losses and external drive. A fundamental question is then how nonequilibrium fluctuations affect this transition. Here, we show that in a two-dimensional driven-dissipative Bose system the Ising phase is suppressed and replaced by a nonequilibrium phase featuring Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) physics. Its emergence is rooted in a U(1)-symmetry restoration mechanism enabled by the strong fluctuations in reduced dimensionality. Moreover, we show that the presence of the quadratic drive term enhances the visibility of the KPZ scaling, compared to two-dimensional U(1)-symmetric gases, where it has remained so far elusive.

Abstract
The thermal rounding of the depinning transition of an elastic interface sliding on a washboard potential is studied through analytic arguments and very accurate numerical simulations. We confirm the standard view that well below the depinning threshold the average velocity can be calculated considering thermally activated nucleation of defects. However, we find that the straightforward extension of this analysis to near or above the depinning threshold does not fully describe the physics of the thermally assisted motion. In particular, we find that exactly at the depinning point the average velocity does not follow a pure power law of the temperature as naively expected by the analogy with standard phase transitions but presents subtle logarithmic corrections. We explain the physical mechanisms behind these corrections and argue that they are nonpeculiar collective effects which may also apply to the case of interfaces sliding on uncorrelated disordered landscapes.

Abstract
Effects of scale coupling between mesoscopic slowly varying envelopes of liquid-solid profile and the underlying microscopic crystalline structure are studied in the phase-field-crystal (PFC) model. Such scale coupling leads to nonadiabatic corrections to the PFC amplitude equations, the effect of which increases strongly with decreasing system temperature below the melting point. This nonadiabatic amplitude representation is further coarse-grained for the derivation of effective sharp-interface equations of motion in the limit of small but finite interface thickness. We identify a generalized form of the Gibbs-Thomson relation with the incorporation of coupling and pinning effects of the crystalline lattice structure. This generalized interface equation can be reduced to the form of a driven sine-Gordon equation with Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) nonlinearity, and can be combined with two other dynamic equations in the sharp interface limit obeying the conservation condition of atomic number density in a liquid-solid system. A sample application to the study of crystal layer growth is given, and the corresponding analytic solutions showing lattice pinning and depinning effects and two distinct modes of continuous vs nucleated growth are presented. We also identify the universal scaling behaviors governing the properties of pinning strength, surface tension, interface kinetic coefficient, and activation energy of atomic layer growth, which accommodate all range of liquid-solid interface thicknesses and different material elastic moduli.
