Abstract
Time-of-flight mass spectrometry was used to investigate fragmentation and energy transfer processes in water by C ions at the distal part of the Bragg peak. Measurements of the positive ion fragments from ionization, electron capture, electron loss, transfer-loss and loss-ionization channels have allowed us for the first time (a) to obtain a quantitative determination of the energy lost by C ions in water and (b) to show that total water fragment ion production has a much flatter profile with projectile energy than would be expected if the water radical formation was assumed to follow the energy-loss profile obtained from available stopping power models.

Abstract
We have used a cold ( T<<1 mK), laser-cooled target of Na atoms confined in a magneto-optical trap to study electron capture processes during highly charged ion-sodium atom collisions at keV energies. Momentum distributions of target ions were determined by employing time-of-flight and position sensitive detection of the Na ions, produced during the collisions and extracted by a weak electric field. In this way impact parameter sensitive information about multielectron capture processes is obtained.

Abstract
We report on the first experiment that measures simultaneously the full momentum vector of recoil ions and projectile energy loss and scattering angle in ion-atom collisions. We studied multiple ionization in the collisions of 0.83-MeV/u O7+ with Ne. Recoil ions ( Ne(q+), q = 1-8) were detected in coincidence with single capture to O6+. The results give the first experimental evidence for the increase of the average electron energy with increasing recoil charge state q. The average ejection angle shows a dramatic decrease with q. Results are compared with n-electron classical trajectory Monte Carlo calculations.
