Abstract
The achiral organic radical dinitrophenyl nitronyl nitroxide crystallizes in two enantiomorphs, both being chiral tetragonal space groups that are mirror images of each other. Muon-spin rotation experiments have been performed to study the magnetic properties of these crystals and demonstrate that long-range magnetic order is established below a temperature of 1.10(1) K. Two oscillatory components are detected in the muon data, which show two different temperature dependences.

Abstract
Two barium copper phosphates, BaCu2(PO4)2(H2O) (1) and Ba2Cu(HPO4)(PO4)(OH) (2), were synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions. The Cu cation in 1 adopts a CuO4(H2O) square pyramidal coordination configuration, forming alternating chains along the b axis through alternative corner and edge sharing, while the geometry of the Cu center in 2 is a CuO4(OH)2 octahedron which further connects each other by edge sharing to constitute uniform chains along the b axis. Magnetic behaviors of both compounds were analyzed by susceptibility, magnetization and heat capacity measurements. The dominant intrachain couplings are antiferromagnetic in 1 with a long-range ordering at 14 K and ferromagnetic in 2 without long-range ordering above 2 K. The first principles calculations indicate that the intrachain ferromagnetic couplings in 2 originate from Cu(1)-O(7)H-Cu(1) dpσ correlation superexchanges. The susceptibility data of compounds 1 and 2 are fitted by using suitable antiferromagnetic chain and ferromagnetic chain models, respectively. In addition, we report the results of the infrared and thermal measurements of both the compounds.

Abstract
The crystal structure of isostructural SrCuV(2)O(7) and BaCuV(2)O(7) consists of one-dimensional (1D) zigzag chains of Cu atoms with next-nearest-neighbor interaction. The main intrachain interaction was found to be ferromagnetic and estimated at 4.6 K (Hamiltonian H approximately -2J). SrCuV(2)O(7) and BaCuV(2)O(7) are new examples in the scanty family of 1D ferromagnets. Isothermal magnetization measurements at 0.08 K and specific heat data showed that MCuV(2)O(7) exhibits antiferromagnetic long-range ordering at T(N) = 1.36 K for SrCuV(2)O(7) and T(N) = 1.47 K for BaCuV(2)O(7). Spin-flop transitions were observed in the antiferromagnetic state at 0.08 K near 0.5 kOe in SrCuV(2)O(7) and 2 kOe in BaCuV(2)O(7). In air, SrCuV(2)O(7) and BaCuV(2)O(7) melted incongruently above 983 and 1018 K, respectively.

Abstract
The X-ray crystal structure and magnetic properties of a molecular crystal consisting of 1,5-dimethyl-3-(2-pyridyl)-6-oxoverdazyl radical and hydroquinone (pyvd:hq) are presented. The structure contains a two-dimensional network of hydrogen bonds involving the hydroquinones and the pyridine ring of the pyvd radical. The radicals adopt an unusual head-over-tail (antiparallel) pi-stacked array perpendicular to the hydrogen-bonded planes. The variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data can be modeled using a one-dimensional antiferromagnetic chain model, with J = -58 cm(-1). The strength of the magnetic coupling is very unusual because there are no close intermolecular radical-radical contacts to provide conventional pathways for magnetic interactions. A pathway for coupling is proposed involving the mediation of magnetic exchange interactions between radical centers by the pyridine rings. Density functional calculations on the pyvd radical, as well as aggregates thereof based on the X-ray structure, have been employed in attempts to understand the possible mechanisms by which the strong magnetic interactions are achieved.
