In the zwitterionic zinc title complex, [ZnCl₂(C₁₄H₂₀N₂O₂)], the Zn^II ion is four-coordinated in a distorted tetra­hedral geometry. The Schiff base ligand employs its phenolate O and imine N atoms to coordinate the metal atom in a bidentate mode. Two Cl atoms complete the tetra­hedral coordination environment. In the crystal, a pair of N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect the mol­ecules into a centrosymmetric dimer. C—H⋯O, C—H⋯Cl and C—H⋯π inter­actions are also observed.

The structure of the title complex, [ZnCl₂(C₁₂H₁₈N₂O₂)], contains a zwitterionic Schiff base ligand. The complex adopts a distorted tetra­hedral coordination geometry around the metal centre with the Schiff base ligand coordinated in a bidentate fashion via the imine N and phenolate O atoms. In the crystal, inter­molecular N—H⋯O and C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds link the mol­ecules into chains parallel to the c-glide planes.
