In the crystal of the title polymeric compound, [CdBr₂(C₁₂H₁₂N₂)]_n, the Cd^II cation is located on a twofold rotation axis and is six-coordinated in a distorted octa­hedral geometry formed by two N atoms from the 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligand and by four bridging Br⁻ anions. The bridging function of the Br⁻ anions leads to a polymeric chain running along the c axis. Weak C—H⋯π inter­actions observed between adjacent chains are effective in the stabilization of the three-dimensional packing.

In the title compound, [VClO(C₁₂H₁₂N₂)₂]Cl·C₂H₅OH·H₂O, the V^IV atom is six-coordinated in a distorted octa­hedral geometry by four N atoms from two 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligands, one O atom and one Cl atom. In the crystal, O—H⋯Cl, C—H⋯O and C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and π–π contacts between the pyridine rings [centroid–centroid distances = 3.7236 (17) and 3.6026 (19) Å] stabilize the structure. Intra­molecular C—H⋯O and C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds are also present.

Trichlorido(4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine-κ(2)N,N')(methanol-κO)indium(III) methanol monosolvate

In the title compound, [InCl₃(C₁₂H₁₂N₂)(CH₃OH)]·CH₃OH, the In^III atom is six-coordinated in a distorted octa­hedral geometry by two N atoms from a chelating 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligand, one O atom from a methanol mol­ecule and three Cl atoms. In the crystal, inter­molecular O—H⋯O and O—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds link the complex and solvent methanol mol­ecules. Intra­molecular C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds are also present in the complex.

Dibromido(4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine-κ(2)N,N')(dimethyl sulfoxide-κO)cadmium

In the title compound, [CdBr(2)(C(12)H(12)N(2))(C(2)H(6)OS)], the Cd(II) atom is five-coordinated in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry by two N atoms from one 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (DMBP) ligand, one O atom from a dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) ligand and two Br atoms. A weak intra-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bond occurs between the DMBP and DMSO ligands. π-π stacking between pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.682 (3) and 3.598 (3) Å] is observed in the crystal.

Aqua-(4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine-κN,N')(nitrato-κO)(nitrato-κO,O')zinc

In the title compound, [Zn(NO₃)₂(C₁₂H₁₂N₂)(H₂O)], the Zn^II atom is six-coordinated in a distorted octa­hedral geometry by two N atoms from a chelating 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligand, one water O atom, one O atom from a monodentate nitrate anion and two O atoms from a chelating nitrate anion. In the crystal, there are aromatic π–π contacts between the pyridine rings [centroid–centroid distances = 3.9577 (13) Å] and inter­molecular O—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

(4,4'-Dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine-κN,N')(dimethyl sulfoxide-κO)diiodidozinc(II)

In the title compound, [ZnI₂(C₁₂H₁₂N₂)(C₂H₆OS)], the Zn^II ion is coordinated by two N atoms from a 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligand, one O atom from a dimethyl sulfoxide mol­ecule and two I atoms in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. Intra­molecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and inter­molecular π–π stacking inter­actions between the pyridine rings [centroid–centroid distances = 3.637 (4) and 3.818 (4) Å] are present in the crystal structure.

Dibromido(4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine-κN,N')zinc(II)

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [ZnBr₂(C₁₂H₁₂N₂)], contains two half-mol­ecules; both are completed by crystallographic twofold axes running through the Zn^II atoms which are coordinated by an N,N′-bidentate 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligand and two Br⁻ ions, resulting in distorted ZnN₂Br₂ tetra­hedral coordination geometries. In the crystal, C—H⋯Br inter­actions link the mol­ecules.

In the mol-ecule of the title compound, [HgBr(2)(C(14)H(12)N(2))], the Hg(II) atom is four-coordinated in a distorted tetra-hedral configuration by two N atoms from a 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligand and by two Br atoms. In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains along the b axis. In the crystal structure, inter­molecular N—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds link the mol­ecules into centrosymmetric dimers. There is a π–π contact between the pyridine rings [centroid–centroid distance = 3.896 (5) Å].

There is a π–π contact between the pyridine rings [centroid–centroid distance = 3.9758 (5) Å].
