3,3'-Di-tert-butyl-1,1'-[1,3-phenyl-enebis(methyl-ene)]diurea

3,3'-Bis(quinolin-8-yl)-1,1'-[4,4'-methyl-enebis(4,1-phenyl-ene)]diurea

The title compound, C(33)H(26)N(6)O(2), contains two 3-(quinolin-8-yl)urea groups linked to a diphenyl-methane. The asymmetric unit contains two mol-ecules, A and B. Each quinoline plane is essentially parallel to the attached urea unit [dihedral angles = 8.97 (18) and 8.81 (19) in molecule A and 18.47 (18) and 4.09 (19)° in molecule B]. The two benzene rings are twisted, making dihedral angles of 81.36 (8)° in A and 87.20 (9)° in B. The molecular structures are stabilized by intramolecular N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds. In the crystal, each urea O atom is involved in two N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating two inter-penetrating three-dimensional sets of mol-ecules.

Binding and selectivity aspects of an expanded azamacrocycle for anions

An expanded azamacrocycle L, containing four secondary and two tertiary amines was synthesized, and its binding ability towards chloride, bromide, iodide, sulfate, nitrate and perchlorate were determined by (1)H NMR titrations in D(2)O at pH 1.7. The results suggest that the ligand is capable of forming a complex with each of the anions examined, showing the selectivity for sulfate in water. X-ray diffraction analysis of the perchlorate complex of L suggests that the ligand is tetraprotonated and is involved in interacting anions from both sides forming a ditopic complex with strong NH···O bonds. In the packing diagram, the macrocycles and external perchlorates are alternatively linked though hydrogen bonding to form a 1D chain.

Tris[2-(2-thienyl-methyl-amino)-eth-yl]ammonium triiodide

In the title compound, C₂₁H₃₃N₄S₃³⁺·3I⁻, three secondary amines are protonated, while the central amine remains unprotonated. One thio­phene is disordered with an occupancy ratio of 0.868 (6)/0.132 (6). Each protonated amine is involved in N—H⋯I hydrogen-bonding inter­actions with the iodide anions.

Tris(2-benzamido-eth-yl)ammonium tetra-fluoro-borate

In the title compound, C(27)H(31)N(4)O(3) (+)·BF(4) (-), the central N atom is protonated. The three arms form a pocket and one amidic O atom accepts an inter-molecular hydrogen bond with the protonated amine. The tetra-fluoro-borate anion is outside the cavity and is hydrogen bonded to one amide N atom. Adjacent organic cations are connected by a pair of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a chain.
