Net zero supply chain performance and industry 4.0 technologies: Past review and present introspective analysis for future research directions

Interest in applying Industry 4.0 technologies in supply chain operations has increased significantly due to the urgent need to combat climate change and achieve net-zero emissions. This study aims to thoroughly comprehend how Industry 4.0 technologies affect the efficiency of net-zero supply chains. To do so, the study systematically reviews the existing research using 68 academic papers that are thematically analysed and classified by potentials associated with Industry 4.0 in the context of net zero supply chain performance. The findings of this systematic literature review highlight the multifaceted role of Industry 4.0 technologies in achieving net-zero supply chain performance. However, the study also identifies challenges related to policy, technology, economy, and markets to harness these technologies effectively. A conceptual framework is proposed to help organizations strategically leverage Industry 4.0 technologies for sustainable supply chain performance. By identifying knowledge gaps, the review provides a roadmap for future research to explore the complex dynamics at the intersection of Industry 4.0 and sustainability. Practically, the study offers valuable insights for supply chain managers and policymakers on the opportunities and challenges associated with adopting Industry 4.0 technologies for sustainable practices. With the goal of achieving net-zero supply chain performance, this paper emphasizes the importance of a holistic, integrated approach to technology adoption and sustainability strategies.

Dose blockchain-based agri-food supply chain guarantee the initial information authenticity? An evolutionary game perspective

Guarantee the initial information of the agri-food supply chain (AFSC) authenticity based on the blockchain is a complex problem. This paper develops an evolutionary game model of AFSC participants based on the blockchain and discusses the impacts of the key parameters on the dynamic evolution process of participants. To verify the theoretical results, simulation experiments and sensitivity analysis were conducted through Matlab 2022b. The study results show that: (1) Guaranteeing the initial information authenticity could become the common belief of all AFSC participants, with the scientific design of parameters; (2) Higher reward and synergistic effect, lower information cost and risk contribute to improving the probability of initial true information sharing. (3) when the default penalty is too severe, the enterprise will evolve into not sharing the initial true information. Finally, this study could provide some suggestions and countermeasures for the leading enterprise in the agricultural supply chain and local governments to guarantee initial information authenticity in China. That is the way to realize the sustainability of AFSC in the long run.

A critical analysis of the integration of blockchain and artificial intelligence for supply chain

The integration between blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) has gained a lot of attention in recent years, especially since such integration can improve security, efficiency, and productivity of applications in business environments characterised by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. In particular, supply chain is one of the areas that have been shown to benefit tremendously from blockchain and AI, by enhancing information and process resilience, enabling faster and more cost-efficient delivery of products, and augmenting products' traceability, among others. This paper performs a state-of-the-art review of blockchain and AI in the field of supply chains. More specifically, we sought to answer the following three principal questions: Q1-What are the current studies on the integration of blockchain and AI in supply chain?, Q2-What are the current blockchain and AI use cases in supply chain?, and Q3-What are the potential research directions for future studies involving the integration of blockchain and AI? The analysis performed in this paper has identified relevant research studies that have contributed both conceptually and empirically to the expansion and accumulation of intellectual wealth in the supply chain discipline through the integration of blockchain and AI.

Blockchain Technology for Oil and Gas: Implications and Adoption Framework Using Agile and Lean Supply Chains

Oil and gas (O&G) supply chain management (SCM) is complex because it deals with different geographic locations to manage demand and supply, transportation, inventory, and distribution. Blockchain technology has created an interesting research gap in the SCM domain, and this study is designed to describe the relevancy of blockchain technology for O&G SCM. SCM is based on agile and lean supply chains (SCs). Agile SC focuses on increasing flexibility and responsiveness to gain competitive advantages, and lean SC is based on eliminating waste and processes to improve firm performance. This study is an initial effort to propose a framework that suggests the implication of blockchain for O&G by providing an overview of O&G SCM. Data were collected from SC managers of O&G companies, and we analyzed the impact of agile and lean SCs on firm performance. The results indicate that agile SC is highly important for O&G industries in comparison to lean SC. This study proposes the key requirements of agile SC and how blockchain can uplift agile SC technology with state-of-the-art properties such as data-driven management, information sharing, data privacy, cyber-security, transparency, smart contracts, visibility, traceability, and reliability, which boost SC agility as well as firm performance.
