Analysis of Hyperspectral Data to Develop an Approach for Document Images

Hyperspectral data analysis is being utilized as an effective and compelling tool for image processing, providing unprecedented levels of information and insights for various applications. In this manuscript, we have compiled and presented a comprehensive overview of recent advances in hyperspectral data analysis that can provide assistance for the development of customized techniques for hyperspectral document images. We review the fundamental concepts of hyperspectral imaging, discuss various techniques for data acquisition, and examine state-of-the-art approaches to the preprocessing, feature extraction, and classification of hyperspectral data by taking into consideration the complexities of document images. We also explore the possibility of utilizing hyperspectral imaging for addressing critical challenges in document analysis, including document forgery, ink age estimation, and text extraction from degraded or damaged documents. Finally, we discuss the current limitations of hyperspectral imaging and identify future research directions in this rapidly evolving field. Our review provides a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners working on document image processing and highlights the potential of hyperspectral imaging for addressing complex challenges in this domain.

Fault Detection for Semi-Markov Switching Systems in the Presence of Positivity Constraints

The fault detection issue is investigated for complex stochastic delayed systems in the presence of positivity constraints and semi-Markov switching parameters. By choosing a mode-dependent fault detection filter (FDF) as a residual generator, the corresponding fault detection is formulated as a positive [Formula: see text] filter problem. Attention is focused on the design of a mode-dependent FDF to minimize the error between the residual signal and the fault signal. The designed FDF features good sensitivity of the faults and robustness against the external disturbances. Subsequently, by means of the linear copositive Lyapunov functional (LCLF), stochastic stability is proposed to satisfy an expected [Formula: see text]-gain performance. Some solvability conditions for the desired mode-dependent FDF are established with the help of a linear programming approach. Finally, an application example of a data communication network model is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical findings.

Time-Driven Adaptive Control of Switched Systems With Application to Electro-Hydraulic Unit

This article focuses on the H_∞ adaptive tracking problem of uncertain switched systems. A key point of the study is to set up a multiple piecewise Lyapunov function framework which provides an effective tool for designing an adaptive switching controller consisting of a state-feedback and time-driven switching signal and a time-driven adaptive law. The proposed switching signal guarantees the solvability of the H_∞ adaptive tracking problem for uncertain switched systems. Significantly, it provides plenty of adjusting time for the adaptive tracking control strategy to damp the transient caused by switching and avoids frequent switching. A novel time-driven adaptive switching controller is established such that the tracking error asymptotically converges to zero and all the signals in the error dynamic system are bounded under an achieved disturbance attenuation level. The solvability criterion ensuring an H_∞ adaptive tracking performance is established for the uncertain switched systems, where the solvability of the H_∞ adaptive tracking problem for individual subsystems is not required. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the electro-hydraulic unit.

Control Design With Optimization for Fuzzy Steering-by-Wire System Based on Nash Game Theory

In this article, we apply a high-order control to a dynamical system with uncertainty. There are two characteristics. First, the uncertain part, which is time-varying but bounded, is described in a fuzzy aspect. Specifically, the uncertainty lies within a fuzzy set and the bound is regarded as a fuzzy number. Second, the systems are uniformly bounded and uniformly ultimately bounded with a deterministic controller based on the Lyapunov theory. To obtain better system performance and lower control input, we apply the noncooperative game theory to optimize the parameters by establishing a Nash game. Then, the D-operation is proposed for the uncertainty related to fuzzy numbers. Finally, we perform the numerical simulations of the steering-by-wire system for verification.

Quantized Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Control for Persistent Dwell-Time Switched Nonlinear Systems With Singular Perturbations

This article investigates the problem of quantized fuzzy control for discrete-time switched nonlinear singularly perturbed systems, where the singularly perturbed parameter (SPP) is employed to represent the degree of separation between the fast and slow states. Taking a full account of features in such switched nonlinear systems, the persistent dwell-time switching rule, the technique of singular perturbation and the interval type-2 Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model are introduced. Then, by means of constructing SPP-dependent multiple Lyapunov-like functions, some sufficient conditions with the ability to ensure the stability and an expected H_∞ performance of the closed-loop system are deduced. Afterward, through solving a convex optimization problem, the gains of the controller are obtained. Finally, the correctness of the proposed method and the effectiveness of the designed controller are demonstrated by an explained example.

Relaxed Observer-Based H∞-Control for Markov Jump Fuzzy Systems with Incomplete Transition Probabilities and Sensor Failures

This paper is concerned with linear matrix inequality conditions to design observer-based H∞-controllers for discrete-time Markov jump fuzzy systems with regard to incomplete transition probabilities and sensor failures. Since some system states involved in fuzzy premise variables are immeasurable or under sensor failures, the observer-based fuzzy controller does not share the same fuzzy basic functions with plants, leading to a mismatch phenomenon. Our work contributes a new single-step LMI method for synthesizing the observer-based controller of the Markov jump fuzzy system in the presence of sensor failures with regard to the mismatched phenomenon. The non-convex H∞-stabilization conditions induced by the output-feedback scheme are firstly formulated in terms of multiple-parameterized linear matrix inequalities (PLMIs). Secondly, by assuming that the differences of fuzzy basic functions between the controller and plant are bounded, the multi-PLMI-based conditions are cast into linear matrix inequalities standing for tractable conditions. The designed observer-based controller guarantees the stochastic stability of the closed-loop system and less conservative results compared to existing works in three numerical examples.

Practical Stabilization of Networked Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Systems via Improved Jensen Inequalities

This work addresses the problem of aperiodically sampled control for the networked Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems, where the aperiodically sampled input is generated by a periodic sampler and an event-triggered mechanism (ETM). The purpose of ETM is used to reduce the computational and communication burdens. For guaranteeing controller robustness, the practical stability of T-S fuzzy systems is considered by using the Lyapunov method and linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. As one of the most powerful inequalities for deriving stability criteria using LMIs, Jensen's inequality has recently been improved by various authors for the stability analysis of delayed systems. However, these results are conservative to obtain lower bounds for integrals with an exponential term. Inspired by this, improved integral inequalities are derived in this work, and they are applied to obtain practical stability criteria for aperiodically sampled control. Finally, a numerical example on flight control of a helicopter is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained practical stability criteria. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the improved Jensen inequalities on the exponential stability criteria is illustrated by numerical comparisons.

Dissipative Asynchronous T-S Fuzzy Control For Singular Semi-Markovian Jump Systems

This article addresses the problems of the dissipative asynchronous Takagi-Sugeno-Kong fuzzy control for a kind of singular semi-Markov jump system. An adjustable quantized approach is presented to deal with the uncertainties, nonlinear disturbance, actuator faults, and time-varying delay of the system. To deal with the problem of the nonsynchronous between system modes and controller modes, an asynchronous method is utilized. Then, a novel asynchronous sliding-mode controller is designed with an output measurement quantizer that is adaptive to the actuator faults and has good performance in practical applications. By solving the linear matrix inequalities, the sufficient conditions are obtained to guarantee the closed system stochastically admissible and strictly (Q,R,S)-α- dissipative and ensure the reachability of the sliding-mode surface. Finally, two numerical examples and comparisons are provided to illustrate the effectiveness and the priority of the proposed technique.

An active disturbance rejection sensorless control strategy based on sliding mode observer for marine current turbine

Marine current energy attracts much attention as a source of inexhaustible green energy. However, marine current turbines operate in a very harsh underwater environment, making it difficult to operate and maintain mechanical sensors. Therefore, the application of a sensorless control strategy is fully justified to improve the reliability of system electrical energy production. In this paper, an active disturbance rejection sensorless control strategy based on compensation sliding mode observer is proposed for the marine current turbine system. The proposed control method consists of two parts. The first part is to design an active disturbance rejection controller for the marine current turbine that will improve the system's anti-interference abilities. The second part proposes a time-delay compensation sliding mode observer based on the Smith predictor to conduct real-time delay compensation of the system. The entire system is ensured to be globally stable through the Lyapunov approach analysis. The proposed control strategy is verified by simulation, which can not only effectively suppress the lumped disturbance and eliminate the system time-delay, but also improve the power extraction capability of the system.

Event-triggered observer-based H∞ sliding mode control of nonlinear systems

The problem of sliding mode control for a class of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model-based nonlinear one-sided Lipschitz systems is investigated in the paper. Due to the state components are not available, a state observer is designed based on an event-triggering mechanism. Meanwhile, the output measurements transmitted through the communication channels suffer from signal delays. Based on the estimated state, an integral sliding surface is proposed. Then, the sliding mode dynamics is obtained by virtue of equivalent control principle. Further, by constructing appropriate sliding mode controller, the finite-time reachability of predefined sliding surface is surely guaranteed. Moreover, the stability with an H_∞ performance analysis of sliding mode dynamics is undertaken via Lyapunov function theory and the criteria are established in terms of LMI. Finally, numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

H∞ Tracking Control of Uncertain Markovian Hybrid Switching Systems: A Fuzzy Switching Dynamic Adaptive Control Approach

This article investigates the H_∞ stochastic tracking control problem for uncertain fuzzy Markovian hybrid switching systems by using a fuzzy switching dynamic adaptive control approach. The long and the short is to construct multiple piecewise stochastic Lyapunov functions which provide an effective tool for designing hybrid switching law and fuzzy switching dynamic adaptive law. A hybrid switching law, including both stochastic switching and deterministic switching, is designed to represent more general switching scenarios, which can improve the H_∞ adaptive tracking performance through offering a running time before stochastic switching for the adaptive control strategy to work well. A fuzzy switching dynamic adaptive control technique is developed such that all signals of the tracking error equation are bounded, and the system state trajectory tracks the reference model state trajectory under a disturbance attenuation level as closely as possible. Finally, an application study verifies the effectiveness of the acquired methods.

Bumpless Transfer H∞ Anti-Disturbance Control of Switching Markovian LPV Systems Under the Hybrid Switching

This article focuses on the bumpless transfer H_∞ anti-disturbance control problem for switching Markovian LPV systems under a hybrid switching law. A parameter-dependent multiple piecewise disturbance observer-based bumpless transfer control strategy is put forward to reject multiple disturbances and reduce switching bumps. First, a hybrid switching law making full use of determinacy and randomness is proposed to improve the bumpless transfer anti-disturbance level by introducing a fixed dwell time in random switching. Second, a generalized bumpless transfer anti-disturbance specification is given to describe the switching quality at the switching points of switching Markovian LPV systems. Third, a solvability condition is established for the bumpless transfer H_∞ anti-disturbance control problem, and a parameter-dependent multiple piecewise disturbance observer-based bumpless transfer controller is designed. Finally, an application example has been supplied to demonstrate the availability of the developed method.

Improved AET Robust Control for Networked T-S Fuzzy Systems With Asynchronous Constraints

This article proposes a novel improved adaptive event-triggered (AET) control algorithm for networked Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with asynchronous constraints. First, taking the limited bandwidth of the network into consideration, an improved AET mechanism is proposed to save the communication resource. Superior to the existing event-triggered mechanism, the improved AET scheme introduces two adjusting parameters, which further contribute to the economization of the communication resource. Second, with consideration of asynchronous premise variables, a reconstructed approach is applied to synchronize the time scales of membership functions of the fuzzy system and the fuzzy controller. Third, to derive a less conservative sufficient condition for the controller design, a new augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional with event-triggered information and triple integral terms is constructed. Meanwhile, by applying a Bessel-Legendre inequality and extended reciprocally convex matrix inequality together, a new control algorithm is derived with less conservatism. Finally, simulations on a cart-damper-spring system are implemented to evaluate and verify the performance and advantages of the proposed algorithm.

Discrete-Time Takagi-Sugeno Stabilization Approach Applied in Autonomous Vehicles

This paper deals with a new robust control design for autonomous vehicles. The goal is to perform lane-keeping under various constraints, mainly unknown curvature and lateral wind force. To reach this goal, a new formulation of Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC) law is given. The quadratic Lyapunov stability and stabilization conditions of the discrete-time Takagi–Sugeno (T-S) model representing the autonomous vehicles are discussed. Sufficient design conditions expressed in terms of strict Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) extracted from the linearization of the Bilinear Matrix Inequalities (BMIs) are proposed. An illustrative example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Further Study on Stabilization for Continuous-Time Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Systems With Time Delay

In the recently published paper, a switching method has been proposed to deal with the time derivative of the membership functions and less conservative results can be obtained due to this method; however, this method is based on the assumption that the switching times are finite. In this article, this method is further studied and the average dwell-time (ADT) switching technique is applied to ensure the stability if there is no such assumption. In addition, an algorithm is proposed to find the switching controller gains. The final simulation demonstrates the effectiveness of the developed new results.

Dynamic Event-Triggered Control for Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Systems Under Fading Channel

This article is to tackle the event-based state-feedback control problem for interval type-2 (IT2) fuzzy systems subject to the fading channel. For saving communication resources, a dynamic event-triggered (ET) mechanism is utilized to decide the data transmission from sensors to the controller. A time-varying random process is employed to characterize the fading phenomenon in the unpredictable communication network. By considering the effect of channel fading, a nonparallel distribution compensation (non-PDC) IT2 fuzzy controller is synthesized and its number of rules and membership functions (MFs) can be freely selected. As a consequence, the closed-loop fuzzy system possesses imperfectly matched MFs. By taking the global membership boundary information into stability analysis, the membership-function-dependent analysis method is employed to handle these imperfectly matched MFs and to obtain relaxed criteria. Besides, sufficient criteria are obtained so that the resulting closed-loop IT2 fuzzy system can achieve stochastic stability despite fading measurements. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by a mass-spring-damper system and a numerical example.

Large-Angle Velocity-Free Attitude Tracking Control of Satellites: An Observer-Free Framework

The challenging problem on the design of a large-angle attitude tracking controller for rigid satellites without angular velocity measurements is investigated in this article. An efficient and practical angular velocity-free control strategy with a simple, yet efficient structure is proposed. The attitude tracking maneuver is accomplished with the desired attitude pointing accuracy ensured despite disturbances. Compared with the existing observer-based velocity-free schemes, no observer is embedded into the control scheme. The developed approach can be implemented online and in real time. It does not require expensive online computation, enabling its convenient application to practical large-angle attitude tracking maneuvers. The presented control solution is numerically and experimentally validated on a rigid satellite testbed.

Barrier Lyapunov Function-Based Adaptive Fault-Tolerant Control for a Class of Strict-Feedback Stochastic Nonlinear Systems

This article investigates the adaptive fuzzy fault-tolerant control problem for a class of strict-feedback stochastic nonlinear systems with quantized input signal. A hysteretic quantizer is utilized to avoid chattering caused by quantized input signals. The fuzzy-logic systems are utilized to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions and also to construct the fuzzy state observer, which is used to estimate the immeasurable state vector. The actuator faults considered in this article are loss of effectiveness and lock-in-place faults. By using the Lyapunov stability theory, the closed-loop stochastic nonlinear system is guaranteed to be stable in probability, and all the signals of the closed-loop system are bounded in probability in the presence of quantized input and actuator faults. Finally, a simulation example is given to verify the validity of the proposed control strategy.

Finite-Time L2-Gain Asynchronous Control for Continuous-Time Positive Hidden Markov Jump Systems via T-S Fuzzy Model Approach

This article investigates the finite-time asynchronous control problem for continuous-time positive hidden Markov jump systems (HMJSs) by using the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model method. Different from the existing methods, the Markov jump systems under consideration are considered with the hidden Markov model in the continuous-time case, that is, the Markov model consists of the hidden state and the observed state. We aim to derive a suitable controller that depends on the observation mode which makes the closed-loop fuzzy HMJSs be stochastically finite-time bounded and positive, and fulfill the given L₂ performance index. Applying the stochastic Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (SLKF) methods, we establish sufficient conditions to obtain the finite-time state-feedback controller. Finally, a Lotka-Volterra population model is used to show the feasibility and validity of the main results.

Further Study on Observer Design for Continuous-Time Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Model With Unknown Premise Variables via Average Dwell Time

This article further studies the problem of observer design for the continuous-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy system with unmeasurable premise variables. A membership function-dependent Lyapunov function is designed to obtain the observer-based controller. Different from the existing results, a switching method is proposed to deal with the time derivative of membership functions. Several problems such as, too many parameters, and the small local stabilization region in the existing papers are solved by applying the switching method. In addition, two algorithms are designed to obtain the controller gains and observer gains. In the end, two examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Adaptive Neural Output-Feedback Controller Design of Switched Nonlower Triangular Nonlinear Systems With Time Delays

In this article, we study the issue of adaptive neural output-feedback controller design for a class of uncertain switched time-delay nonlinear systems with nonlower triangular structure. The prominent contribution of this article is that the delay-dependent stability criterion of nonswitched nonlinear systems is successfully extended to that of switched nonlower triangular nonlinear systems. The design algorithm is listed as follows. First, a switched state observer is designed such that the error dynamic system can be generated. Second, neural networks, adaptive backstepping technique, and variable separation method are, respectively, applied to construct a common controller for all subsystems, in which the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals are deliberately constructed such that the average dwell-time scheme can be employed to guarantee the stability and performance of the closed-loop system, despite the existence of time delays. Third, the stability analysis process confirms in detail that all the variables of the closed-loop system are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, simulation study is given to show the validity of the proposed control approach.

Dissipative Filtering for Switched Fuzzy Systems With Missing Measurements

This paper investigates the dissipative filtering problem for a class of discrete-time switched fuzzy systems with missing measurements. The fuzzy plant under consideration incorporates characteristics of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems and switched systems simultaneously. The occurrence of missing measurements is described by a stochastic variable that satisfies the Bernoulli binary distribution, which characterizes the effect of data loss in information transmission between the plant and the filter. Utilizing the Lyapunov function technique, sufficient conditions are developed to ensure that the resultant filtering error system is exponentially stable and strictly dissipative. Two simulation examples are presented to illustrate the validity of the proposed method.
