Tracking Control of Self-Restructuring Systems: A Low-Complexity Neuroadaptive PID Approach With Guaranteed Performance

This article investigates the tracking control problem for a class of self-restructuring systems. Different from existing studies on systems with fixed structure, this work focuses on systems with varying structures, arising from, for instance, biological self-developing, unconsciously switching, or unexpected subsystem failure. As the resultant dynamic model is complicated and uncertain, any model-based control is too costly and seldom practical. Here, we explore a nonmodel-based low-complexity proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control. Unlike traditional PID with fixed gains, the proposed one is embedded with neural-network (NN)-based self-tuning adaptive gains, where the tuning strategy is analytically built upon system stability and performance specifications, such that transient behavior and steady-state performance are ensured. Both square and nonsquare systems are addressed by using the matrix decomposition technique. The benefits and feasibility of the proposed control method are also validated and confirmed by the simulations.

Event-Triggered Adaptive NN Tracking Control for MIMO Nonlinear Discrete-Time Systems

This article concentrates on the design of a novel event-based adaptive neural network (NN) control algorithm for a class of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) nonlinear discrete-time systems. A controller is designed through a novel recursive design procedure, under which the dependence on virtual controls is avoided and only system states are needed. The numbers of the event-triggered conditions and parameters updated online in each subsystem reduce to only one, which largely reduces the computation burden and simplifies the algorithm realization. In this case, radial basis function NNs (RBFNNs) are employed to approximate the control input. The semiglobal uniformly ultimate boundedness (SGUUB) of all the signals in the closed-loop system is guaranteed by the Lyapunov difference approach. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is validated by a simulation example.

Neural Adaptive Self-Triggered Control for Uncertain Nonlinear Systems With Input Hysteresis

The issue of neural adaptive self-triggered tracking control for uncertain nonlinear systems with input hysteresis is considered. Combining radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) and adaptive backstepping technique, an adaptive self-triggered tracking control approach is developed, where the next trigger instant is determined by the current information. Compared with the event-triggered control mechanism, its biggest advantage is that it does not need to continuously monitor the trigger condition of the system, which is convenient for physical realization. By the proposed controller, the hysteresis's effect can be compensated effectively and the tracking error can be bounded by an explicit function of design parameters. Simultaneously, all other signals in the closed-loop system can be remaining bounded. Finally, two examples are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Composite adaptive dynamic programming for missile interception systems with multiple constraints and less sensor requirement

The adaptive integrated guidance and control issue of missiles with less sensor requirement is investigated in the optimal stabilization problem of an uncertain nonlinear system subjected to state and input constraints. The nonlinear system with partially unmeasurable states is transformed into the non-strict feedback form, firstly. Then, an adaptive observer is designed to approximate the full states, where a disturbance estimator is incorporated to suppress the unmatched external disturbances. Next, by employing a Barrier Lyapunov Function (BLF) and an auxiliary system to tackle the multiple constraints, an adaptive feedforward controller is raised to reduce the stabilization issue of the nonlinear system in non-strict feedback form to the equivalent control problem of an affine nonlinear system. Subsequently, an optimal controller is derived by utilizing adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) theory. The system stability is rigorously proved by using Lyapunov theory. Finally, simulations are performed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

Neural Networks-Based Adaptive Finite-Time Fault-Tolerant Control for a Class of Strict-Feedback Switched Nonlinear Systems

This paper concentrates upon the problem of finite-time fault-tolerant control for a class of switched nonlinear systems in lower-triangular form under arbitrary switching signals. Both loss of effectiveness and bias fault in actuator are taken into account. The method developed extends the traditional finite-time convergence from nonswitched lower-triangular nonlinear systems to switched version by designing appropriate controller and adaptive laws. In contrast to the previous results, it is the first time to handle the fault tolerant problem for switched system while the finite-time stability is also necessary. Meanwhile, there exist unknown internal dynamics in the switched system, which are identified by the radial basis function neural networks. It is proved that under the presented control strategy, the system output tracks the reference signal in the sense of finite-time stability. Finally, an illustrative simulation on a resistor-capacitor-inductor circuit is proposed to further demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical result.

A Model-Based Recurrent Neural Network With Randomness for Efficient Control With Applications

Recently, Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) control schemes for redundant manipulators have been extensively studied. These control schemes demonstrate superior computational efficiency, control precision, and control robustness. However, they lack planning completeness. This paper explains why RNN control schemes suffer from the problem. Based on the analysis, this work presents a new random RNN control scheme, which 1) introduces randomness into RNN to address the planning completeness problem, 2) improves control precision with a new optimization target, 3) improves planning efficiency through learning from exploration. Theoretical analyses are used to prove the global stability, the planning completeness, and the computational complexity of the proposed method. Software simulation is provided to demonstrate the improved robustness against noise, the planning completeness and the improved planning efficiency of the proposed method over benchmark RNN control schemes. Real-world experiments are presented to demonstrate the application of the proposed method.
