Hierarchical Hashing Learning for Image Set Classification

With the development of video network, image set classification (ISC) has received a lot of attention and can be used for various practical applications, such as video based recognition, action recognition, and so on. Although the existing ISC methods have obtained promising performance, they often have extreme high complexity. Due to the superiority in storage space and complexity cost, learning to hash becomes a powerful solution scheme. However, existing hashing methods often ignore complex structural information and hierarchical semantics of the original features. They usually adopt a single-layer hashing strategy to transform high-dimensional data into short-length binary codes in one step. This sudden drop of dimension could result in the loss of advantageous discriminative information. In addition, they do not take full advantage of intrinsic semantic knowledge from whole gallery sets. To tackle these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel Hierarchical Hashing Learning (HHL) for ISC. Specifically, a coarse-to-fine hierarchical hashing scheme is proposed that utilizes a two-layer hash function to gradually refine the beneficial discriminative information in a layer-wise fashion. Besides, to alleviate the effects of redundant and corrupted features, we impose the ℓ_2,1 norm on the layer-wise hash function. Moreover, we adopt a bidirectional semantic representation with the orthogonal constraint to keep intrinsic semantic information of all samples in whole image sets adequately. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate HHL acquires significant improvements in accuracy and running time. We will release the demo code on https://github.com/sunyuan-cs.

Wearable Device-Based Intelligent Patrol Inspection System Design and Implementation

The traditional on-site operation of power stations includes inspection and maintenance. However, it heavily relies on experience for maintenance. Most on-site operation and maintenance data are text records. On the one hand, the data processing is tedious for experience to affect the safe on-site operation. On the other hand, we usually cannot give full consideration to the value of maintenance experience, so that the corresponding efficiency is very low. Therefore, this paper proposes a wearable device based remote and intelligent patrol inspection system that uses the cloud video transmission mode of both public and private clouds to realize the video connection between the power stations and the remote diagnosis center and uses the wearable devices for real experience. In this way, the authors can simulate real operation guidance and safety supervision, etc. so as to realize the remote management patrol operations, improve the fault detection efficiency, and improve equipment reliability.

Spatial-contextual variational autoencoder with attention correction for anomaly detection in retinal OCT images

Anomaly detection refers to leveraging only normal data to train a model for identifying unseen abnormal cases, which is extensively studied in various fields. Most previous methods are based on reconstruction models, and use anomaly score calculated by the reconstruction error as the metric to tackle anomaly detection. However, these methods just employ single constraint on latent space to construct reconstruction model, resulting in limited performance in anomaly detection. To address this problem, we propose a Spatial-Contextual Variational Autoencoder with Attention Correction for anomaly detection in retinal OCT images. Specifically, we first propose a self-supervised segmentation network to extract retinal regions, which can effectively eliminate interference of background regions. Next, by introducing both multi-dimensional and one-dimensional latent space, our proposed framework can then learn the spatial and contextual manifolds of normal images, which is conducive to enlarging the difference between reconstruction errors of normal images and those of abnormal ones. Furthermore, an ablation-based method is proposed to localize anomalous regions by computing the importance of feature maps, which is used to correct anomaly score calculated by reconstruction error. Finally, a novel anomaly score is constructed to separate the abnormal images from the normal ones. Extensive experiments on two retinal OCT datasets are conducted to evaluate our proposed method, and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.
