Abstract
Modifying the carrier interface is a promising method to improve the microenvironment of immobilized enzymes and enhance their activity and stability. In this work, using proline as amino acid, magnetic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were modified with an amino-acid-based ionic liquid (AAIL) with two hydroxyl groups followed by adsorption of porcine pancreatic lipase (PPL). The activity recovery of the prepared immobilized lipase (MMOF-AAIL/PPL) was up to 162 % higher than that of MMOF-PPL (70.8 %). The Michaelis constant of MMOF-AAIL/PPL was 0.0742 mM lower than that of MMOF-PPL, but the catalytic efficiency was 0.0223 min-1 which was higher than MMOF-PPL. Furthermore, MMOF-AAIL/PPL maintained 85.6 % residual activity after stored for 40 days and its residual activity was 71.9 % while that for MMOF-PPL was 58.8 % after incubated in 6 M urea for 2 h. Particularly, after ten consecutive cycles, the residual activity of MMOF-AAIL/PPL still reached 84.4 %. In addition, the magnetic properties of the support facilitate the separation process which improves the utilization efficiency of immobilized enzymes.

Abstract
One Health closely integrates healthy farming, human medicine, and environmental ecology. Due to the ecotoxicity and risk of transmission of drug resistance, veterinary medicines (VMs) are regarded as emerging environmental pollutants. To reduce or mitigate the environmental risk of VMs, developing friendly, safe, and effective removal technologies is an important means of environmental remediation for VMs. Many previous studies have proved that biodegradation has significant advantages in removing VMs, and biodegradation based on enzyme catalysis presents higher operability and specificity. This review focused on biodegradation strategies of environmental pollutants and reviewed the enzymatic degradation of VMs including antimicrobial drugs, insecticides, and disinfectants. We reviewed the sources and catalytic mechanisms of peroxidase, laccase, and organophosphorus hydrolases, and summarized the latest research status of immobilization methods and bioengineering techniques in improving the performance of degrading enzymes. The mechanism of enzymatic degradation for VMs was elucidated in the current research. Suggestions and prospects for researching and developing enzymatic degradation of VMs were also put forward. This review will offer new ideas for the biodegradation of VMs and have a guide significance for the risk mitigation and detoxification of VMs in the environment.

Abstract
The use of free pectinases as clarification biocatalysts constitutes a well-established practice in the large-scale production of various types of wines. However, when in the form of free enzymes, the recovery and reusability of pectinases is difficult if not impossible. To address these limitations, the present study focuses on the noncovalent adsorption immobilization of a commercial pectinolytic preparation onto highly porous polyamide 6 (PA6) microparticles, both with and without magnetic properties, prepared via activated anionic polymerization. The two pectinase complexes resulting after immobilization underwent comparative activity and kinetic studies, contrasting them with the free enzyme preparation. In comparison with the free enzyme, the PA6-immobilized pectinase complexes exhibited more than double the specific activity toward the pectin substrate. They displayed a slightly higher affinity to the substrate while acting as faster catalysts that were more resistant to inhibition. Furthermore, the immobilized complexes were applied in the clarification process of industrial rosé must, whereby they demonstrated accelerated performance as compared with the free enzyme. Moreover, the PA6-immobilized pectinase biocatalysts offered the potential for three consecutive cycles of reuse, achieving complete rosé must clarification within relevant timeframes in the range of 3-36 h. All these results suggest the potential industrial application of the pectinases noncovalently immobilized upon PA6 microparticles.

Abstract
Laccase from Aspergillus sp. (LC) was immobilized on functionalized silica hierarchical (microporous-macroporous) MFI zeolite (ZMFI). The obtained immobilized biocatalyst (LC#ZMFI) was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms, solid-state NMR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirming the chemical anchoring of the enzyme to the zeolitic support. The optimal pH, kinetic parameters (KM and Vmax), specific activity, as well as both storage and operational stability of LC#ZMFI were determined. The LC#ZMFI KM and Vmax values amount to 10.3 µM and 0.74 µmol·mg-1 min-1, respectively. The dependence of specific activity on the pH for free and immobilized LC was investigated in the pH range of 2-7, The highest specific activity was obtained at pH = 3 for both free LC and LC#ZMFI. LC#ZMFI retained up to 50 % and 30 % of its original activity after storage of 21 and 30 days, respectively. Immobilization of laccase on hierarchical silica MFI zeolite allows to carry out the reaction under acidic pH values without affecting the support structure.

Abstract
Against the backdrop of towering ecological health implications of estrogen pollution and the inefficacies associated with cost-intensive treatment techniques, this study recorded the earliest attempt of developing an inexpensive bacterial laccase-based biocatalysts for biodegradation of EDCs (Endocrine disrupting compounds), particularly estrogens. First, a central composite design was used to investigate the interactive effects of pH (6.0–8.0), inoculum size (100–500 U/mL), and copper (Cu) (25–75 mg/L) on laccase activity and estrogen degradation respectively. Thereafter, biocatalysts was synthesized comprising laccase and glass beads or silver impregnated clay granules (SICG), which was further used to treat estrogen infused aquatic matrices under different reaction conditions. Maximum laccase activities and estrogen removal for the two tested laccases were 620 U/mL (85.8–92.9%) and 689.8 U/mL (86.8–94.6%) for Lysinibacillus sp. BP1 and Lysinibacillus sp. BP2, respectively, within 72 h, under conditions of optimal inoculum size and/or Cu concentration. Apart from a higher estrogen removal rate compared to free laccased, the biocatalysts were more resistant to temperature, pH and other environmental perturbations, and had enhanced storage ability and reusability. In comparison to clay, beads had a higher potential for recyclability and were more stable under certain experimental factors such as pH, reuse, and temperature, as well as storage conditions. Immobilized enzymes were able to remove 100% of E2, as well as over 90% of E1 and EE2, in 24 h, indicating that they could be scaled up to benchtop bioreactor levels.

Abstract
Nowadays, ecofriendly, low-cost, and sustainable alternatives techniques have been focused on the effective removal of hazardous pollutants from the water streams. In this context, enzyme immobilization seems to be of specific interest to several researchers to develop novel, effective, greener, and hybrid strategies for the removal of toxic contaminants. Immobilization is a biotechnological tool, anchoring the enzymes on support material to enhance the stability and retain the structural conformation of enzymes for catalysis. Recyclability and reusability are the main merits of immobilized enzymes over free enzymes. Studies showed that immobilized enzyme laccase can be used up to 7 cycles with 66% efficiency, peroxidase can be recycled to 2 cycles with 50% efficiency, and also cellulase to 3 cycles with 91% efficiency. In this review, basic concepts of immobilization, different immobilization techniques, and carriers used for immobilization are summarized. In addition to that, the potential of immobilized enzymes as the bioremediation agents for the effective degradation of pollutants from the contaminated zone and the impact of different operating parameters are summarized in-depth. Further, this review provides future trends and challenges that have to be solved shortly for enhancing the potential of immobilized systems for large-scale industrial wastewater treatment.

Abstract
AbstractCellulases are a group of enzymes, which catalyse different steps of cellulose hydrolysis, and are broadly used in industry as unpurified mixtures of several enzymes. The total activity of cellulase is defined as the ability of the enzyme to produce glucose, which is the final product of cellulose hydrolysis, and is expressed in cellulase units. However, common strategies for the determination of the cellulolytic activity of industrial cellulase preparations are based on the assessment of different steps of cellulose hydrolysis, and the results obtained with different methods are not similar. The aim of the present study was to develop an assay for the determination of cellulase activity that relies on the amperometric determination of the final product of cellulose hydrolysis glucose. The assay conditions were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM) combined with Box-Behnken design. The detection limit of the proposed method was 1.71 ± 0.06 U. We compared the results of the amperometric method with the ones obtained with the spectrophotometric method and viscosimetry in a commercial cellulose preparation.

Abstract
Enzymes play vital roles in all organisms. The enzymatic process is progressively at its peak, mainly for producing biochemical products with a higher value. The immobilization of enzymes can sometimes tremendously improve the outcome of biocatalytic processes, making the product(s) relatively pure and economical. Carrier-free immobilized enzymes can increase the yield of the product and the stability of the enzyme in biocatalysis. Immobilized enzymes are easier to purify. Due to these varied advantages, researchers are tempted to explore carrier-free methods used for the immobilization of enzymes. In this review article, we have discussed various aspects of enzyme immobilization, approaches followed to design a process used for immobilization of an enzyme and the advantages and disadvantages of various common processes used for enzyme immobilization.

Abstract
The unstable proteins in white wine cause haze in bottles of white wine, degrading its quality. Thaumatins and chitinases are grape pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins that remain stable during vinification but can precipitate at high temperatures after bottling. The white wine protein stabilization process can prevent haze by removing these unstable proteins. Traditionally, bentonite is used to remove these proteins; however, it is labor-intensive, generates wine losses, affects wine quality, and harms the environment. More efficient protein stabilization technologies should be based on a better understanding of the main factors and mechanisms underlying protein precipitation. This review focuses on recent developments regarding the instability and removal of white wine proteins, which could be helpful to design more economical and environmentally friendly protein stabilization methods that better preserve the products´ quality.

Abstract
Enzymes are the highly efficient biocatalyst in modern biotechnological industries. Due to the fragile property exposed to the external stimulus, the application of enzymes is highly limited. The immobilized enzyme by polymer has become a research hotspot to empower enzymes with more extraordinary properties and broader usage. Compared with free enzyme, polymer immobilized enzymes improve thermal and operational stability in harsh environments, such as extreme pH, temperature and concentration. Furthermore, good reusability is also highly expected. The first part of this study reviews the three primary immobilization methods: physical adsorption, covalent binding and entrapment, with their advantages and drawbacks. The second part of this paper includes some polymer applications and their derivatives in the immobilization of enzymes.

Encapsulation of Combi-CLEAs of Glycosidases in Alginate Beads and Polyvinyl Alcohol for Wine Aroma Enhancement. Catalysts 2021. Abstract
The aromatic expression of wines can be enhanced by the addition of specific glycosidases, although their poor stability remains a limitation. Coimmobilization of glycosidases as cross-linked enzyme aggregates (combi-CLEAs) offers a simple solution yielding highly stable biocatalysts. Nevertheless, the small particle size of combi-CLEAs hinders their recovery, preventing their industrial application. Encapsulation of combi-CLEAs of glycosidases in alginate beads and in polyvinyl alcohol is proposed as a solution. Combi-CLEAS of β-d-glucosidase and α-l-arabinofuranosidase were prepared and encapsulated. The effects of combi-CLEA loading and particle size on the expressed specific activity (IU/gbiocatalyst) of the biocatalysts were evaluated. Best results were obtained with 2.6 mm diameter polyvinyl alcohol particles at a loading of 60 mgcombi-CLEA/gpolyvinyl alcohol, exhibiting activities of 1.9 and 1.0 IU/gbiocatalyst for β-d-glucosidase and α-l-arabinofuranosidase, respectively. Afterwards, the stability of the biocatalysts was tested in white wine. All the encapsulated biocatalysts retained full activity after 140 incubation days, outperforming both free enzymes and nonencapsulated combi-CLEAs. Nevertheless, the alginate-encapsulated biocatalysts showed a brittle consistency, making recovery unfeasible. Conversely, the polyvinyl-encapsulated biocatalyst remained intact throughout the assay. The encapsulation of combi-CLEAs in polyvinyl alcohol proved to be a simple methodology that allows their recovery and reuse to harness their full catalytic potential.

Abstract
Increasing attention has been recently paid to the development of nanocomposite materials for food application as new tool to enhance the mechanical and thermal properties of polymers. In this study, novel chitosan-clay nanocomposite films were produced as carriers for the covalent immobilization of papain, by using a fixed amount of chitosan (1% w/v) and a food-grade activated montmorillonite (Optigel, OPT) or a high-purity unmodified montmorillonite (SMP), in four different weight percentages with respect to chitosan (i.e., 20, 30, 50, 70% w/w). Both nanoclays (OPT and SMP) improved the mechanical properties of the obtained nanocomposites, and the OPT films showed the highest Young modulus and mechanical resistance (σmax). The nanocomposites were used as carriers for the covalent immobilization of papain, which was preliminarily characterized in model wine towards a synthetic substrate, showing the highest efficiency in the release of the reaction product when it was bound on OPT-30 and OPT-50 films. Finally, the latter biocatalyst (papain on OPT-50 film) was applied for the protein stabilization of two different unfined white wines, and it efficiently reduced both the haze potential and the protein content.
