Central calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumour in the posterior maxilla: a case report

Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor is a benign epithelial odontogenic tumor thought to originate from the stratum intermedium. Clear cell type, Langerhans cell/non-calcified type, and cystic/microcystic are the three recently recognized histological subtypes of CEOT in the 5th edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Head and Neck Tumors. Almost 350-400 cases of CEOT have been reported in literature, accounting for less than 1% of the reported cases of odontogenic tumors. We are reporting a case of Pindborg tumor of the maxilla with extension to the maxillary sinus, nasal cavity, and infraorbital margin, with an emphasis on radiographic and histopathologic presentation.

Mandibular Reconstruction Using Free Fibular Flap Graft Following Excision of Calcifying Epithelial Odontogenic Tumor

ABSTRACT

The calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (CEOT) is a rare benign odontogenic tumor, which usually presents with distension of affected tissues. Radiologically, the lesions are often associated with an unerupted tooth and may have spot calcification shadows. The authors report a case of a CEOT in a 48-year-old male involving the right mandibular jaw bone and mentum soft tissues. The authors performed hemimandibulectomy and enucleation followed by reconstruction of the mandible using a vascularized free fibular flap through a digital surgical technique in order to restore the patient's facial symmetry and prepare the area for functional restorations. The case illustrates who the free fibular flap graft can be used for satisfactory mandibular reconstruction and restoration of the morphology and functions.

Central Osteoma of Maxilla Associated with an Impacted Tooth: Report of a Rare Case with Literature Review

Osteomas are benign osteogenic neoplasms caused by proliferation of mature compact or cancellous bone. Clinically they may be classified as peripheral, central or extraskeletal. Osteomas usually involve the craniofacial region with mandible being the most common site. Central osteoma of the jaws is a very rare entity with only 13 cases reported in the literature till date of which only five cases occurred in the maxilla. Here we present a case of a large central osteoma of anterior maxilla associated with an impacted tooth, the first of its kind and a review of literature.
