Abstract
PURPOSE To compare detection rates of microaneurysms (MAs) on high-speed megahertz optical coherence tomography angiography (MHz-OCTA), fluorescein angiography (FA) and colour fundus photography (CF) in patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR). METHODS For this exploratory cross-sectional study, MHz-OCTA data were acquired with a swept-source OCT prototype (A-scan rate: 1.7 MHz), and FA and CF imaging was performed using Optos® California. MA count was manually evaluated on en face MHz-OCTA/FA/CF images within an extended ETDRS grid. Detectability of MAs visible on FA images was evaluated on corresponding MHz-OCTA and CF images. MA distribution and leakage were correlated with detectability on OCTA and CF imaging. RESULTS 47 eyes with severe DR (n = 12) and proliferative DR (n = 35) were included. MHz-OCTA and CF imaging detected on average 56% and 36% of MAs, respectively. MHz-OCTA detection rate was significantly higher than CF (p < 0.01). The combination of MHz-OCTA and CF leads to an increased detection rate of 70%. There was no statistically significant association between leakage and MA detectability on OCTA (p = 0.13). For CF, the odds of detecting leaking MAs were significantly lower than non-leaking MAs (p = 0.012). Using MHz-OCTA, detection of MAs outside the ETDRS grid was less likely than MAs located within the ETDRS grid (outer ring, p < 0.01; inner ring, p = 0.028). No statistically significant difference between rings was observed for CF measurements. CONCLUSIONS More MAs were detected on MHz-OCTA than on CF imaging. Detection rate was lower for MAs located outside the macular region with MHz-OCTA and for leaking MAs with CF imaging. Combining both non-invasive modalities can improve MA detection.

Comparison of two ultra-widefield color-fundus imaging devices for visualization of retinal periphery and microvascular lesions in patients with early diabetic retinopathy. Sci Rep 2022; 12:17449. Abstract
Comparison of two ultra-widefield (UWF) color-fundus (CF) imaging devices in diabetic patients for visualization of retinal periphery and detection of early microvascular lesions. The total gradable areas (TGA) seen on non-mydriatic CF-images of two UWF-imaging devices (Optos Daytona P200T; Zeiss Clarus 700) were compared and differences in projected area measured. Retinal periphery outside the 7 standard fields (7SF) was divided into: F3 temporal, F4 superotemporal, F5 inferotemporal, F6 superonasal, F7 inferonasal. DR stage was evaluated in the 7SF and the TGA on images of both devices and compared using Cohens κ. 67 eyes of 67 patients (52.5 ± 15.3 years) were analysed. DR stages in the 7SF were no (n = 36 Optos, n = 35 Clarus), mild (n = 16 Optos, n = 17 Clarus), and moderate DR (n = 15). Optos depicted significantly more area in F3 (median [interquartile range]; 2.41% [1.06-4.11] vs 0% [0-0], P < 0.001) and Clarus in F7 (3.29% [0-7.69] vs 0% [0-3.27], P = 0.002). In 4 eyes DR-stage was higher using Optos due to peripheral lesions not seen on the Clarus. Interrater reliability of DR-stage on both devices was almost perfect in the 7SF (κ = 0.975) and the TGA (κ = 0.855). Reliability in detecting signs of early DR is high on both devices. Clarus allowed for better visualization of the inferonasal field, Optos of the temporal field.

Abstract
AIM To explore the influencing factors of diabetes type 2 patients with mild non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) in the Kailuan area of Tangshan, Hebei Province, China. METHODS In this non-interventional, retrospective study, 683 patients with type 2 diabetes were included in the Kailuan Diabetic Retinopathy Study involving participants with diabetes in the community-based longitudinal Kailuan Study. Based on the undilated ultra-wide field (200°; UWF) images and partial dilated digital fundus images, the diabetic retinopathy (DR) of the surveyed population was graded. Interobserver agreement was estimated by using Cohen's Kappa statistics. The main outcome indicators included gender, age, weight, height, body mass index, blood pressure, circumferences of neck, waist and hip, current smoking, levels of fasting plasma glucose (FPG), hypersensitive C-reactive protein, creatinine, and cholesterol, etc. According to different lesions' locations of patients with mild NPDR, logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and their 95%CIs of each risk factor. RESULTS The study group of 683 patients included 570 males and 113 females. The mean age of the patients was 62.18±9.41y. Compared with dilated fundus examinations, there was fair agreement with the level of DR identified on UWF images in 63.91% of eyes (k=0.369, 95%CI, 0.00-0.00). Detected by UWF images, there were 98 patients with mild NPDR having peripheral retinal lesions, 35 patients with mild NPDR having posterior lesions, 44 patients with mild NPDR whose lesions were detected both in and out the standard two fields area, and 336 patients with non obvious DR. Parameters that conferred a statistically significant increased risks for mild NPDR with having peripheral retinal lesions were neck circumstance (OR, 1.124; 95%CI, 1.044-1.211), and with posterior lesions were FPG (OR, 1.052; 95%CI, 1.007-1.099). CONCLUSION UWF is an effectiveness means of DR screening. Moreover, it is necessary to evaluate peripheral diabetic retinal lesions which can help to estimate the severity of DR. The phenomenon that nonuniform and inhomogeneous distribution of DR lesions has been found. And the influencing factors in mild NPDR are differing by different lesions' locations.

Abstract
Physiological and pathophysiological differences widely exist in paired organ systems. However, the molecular basis for these differences remains largely unknown. We previously reported that there exist differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) in the left and right kidneys of normal mice. Here, we identified the DEMs in the left and right eyes, lungs, and testes of normal mice via RNA sequencing. As a result, we identified 26 DEMs in eyes, with 23 higher and 3 lower in the left eyes compared with right eyes; 21 DEMs in lungs, with 15 higher and 6 lower in the left lungs compared with right lungs; and 54 DEMs in testes, with 6 higher and 48 lower in the left testes compared with right testes. Ten microRNAs (miRNAs) were further examined by quantitative PCR assays, and seven of these were confirmed. In addition, correlation analysis was performed between paired organ miRNA expressions and diverse body fluid miRNA expressions. Finally, we explored the functions and networks of DEMs and performed biological process and pathway enrichment analysis of target genes for DEMs, providing insights into the physiological and pathophysiological differences between the two entities of paired organs.
