Abstract
This paper considers the development and evolution of the short-form 6 dimensions (SF-6D), a generic preference-weighted measure consisting of a health classification with accompanying value set that was developed from one of the widest used health related quality of life measures, the SF-36 health survey. This enabled health state utility values to be directly generated from SF-36 and SF-12 data for a range of purposes, including to produce quality adjusted life years for use in economic evaluation of healthcare interventions across a range of different conditions and treatments. This paper considers the rationale for the development of the measure, the development process, performance and how the SF-6D has evolved since its conception. This includes the development of an updated version, SF-6D version 2 (SF-6Dv2), which was generated to deal with some criticisms of the first version, and now includes a standalone version for inclusion in studies without relying on use of SF-36 or SF-12. Valuation methods have also evolved, from standard gamble in-person interviews to online discrete choice experiment surveys. International work related to the SF-6Dv1 and SF-6Dv2 is considered. We also consider recommendations for use, highlighting key psychometric evidence and reimbursement agency recommendations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Health-related Quality of Life (HRQOL) and its relation with functional vision is understudied in cerebral visual impairment (CVI). AIMS Characterising HRQOL, comparing child self- and parent proxy-reports, and exploring relations with functional vision. METHODS AND PROCEDURES Seventy-three children with CVI (n females = 33; n males = 40; Mean performance age = 7y2m) were included. HRQOL was measured with Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) child self- and parent proxy-reports and compared using Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Risk for impaired HRQOL was evaluated using cut-off scores. Parents scored functional vision using the Insight Questions Inventory and the Flemish CVI Questionnaire. OUTCOMES AND RESULTS 61 % (self-reported) or 66 % of children (proxy-reported) were at-risk for impaired total HRQOL. Ratings were correlated (rs = 0.305; p = 0.013); however, children rated higher total HRQOL compared to parent-proxy (r = 0.382; p = 0.002). The Insight Questions Inventory and the PedsQL proxy-report were correlated (rp = -0.454; p < 0.001), the Flemish CVI Questionnaire was negligibly correlated (rp = -0.244; p = 0.041). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS HRQOL is reduced in CVI, and both child and parent perspectives are crucial. HRQOL and functional vision are intricately related, and impairment in one negatively affects the other.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a common cause of visual impairment and blindness in the elderly with globally increasing prevalence. Vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor (anti-VEGF) treatment has improved visual prognosis of nAMD, but continuous treatment may cause anxiety and stress, although increase in visual acuity (VA) may also have positive effects on patients' quality of life. The health care burden due to frequent treatment and monitoring is apparent, but the effect of anti-VEGF treatment on patients' quality of life is not fully understood. We evaluated the overall impact of nAMD and its treatment on newly diagnosed patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in real-world setting. METHODS The present prospective cohort study included newly diagnosed nAMD patients treated with anti-VEGF injections at Oulu University Hospital during 2019-2020. Data included parameters from comprehensive ophthalmic examination and fundus imaging, age at diagnosis, sex, comorbidities, visual acuity, and frequency of anti-VEGF injections. HRQoL was assessed by 15D questionnaire at diagnosis, 6 months, and 12 months. RESULTS 95 nAMD patients were included. They were 78 ± 8 years old, 56 (59%) were female, and 74 (78%) had more than one comorbidity. The patients received 8 ± 3 anti-VEGF-injections. Visual acuity (VA) improved from 56 ± 18 to 61 ± 24 Early treatment diabetic retinopathy study (ETDRS) letters in 12 months. VA improved > 5 ETDRS letters in 45 (47%), remained stable in 30 (32%) and decreased > 5 letters in 17 (18%) eyes. The mean total 15D score reflecting overall HRQoL decreased from 0.850 ± 0.104 to 0.834 ± 0.103 in 12 months. Decreased HRQoL was associated with baseline best-corrected VA (BCVA) ≥ 70 ETDRS letters (p = 0.023) and more than one comorbidity (p = 0.034). HRQoL regarding visual function increased from 0.765 ± 0.194 to 0.789 ± 0.184 during the 12-month follow-up. CONCLUSIONS In real world setting, HRQoL regarding visual function improved in anti-VEGF-treated nAMD patients during the first 12 months after the diagnosis and treatment initiation. Good baseline VA or several comorbidities were associated with decreased overall HRQoL during the follow-up. Despite the effectiveness of anti-VEGF treatment on visual function, several other aspects affecting elderly patients' everyday life should be considered when nAMD treatment is implemented.

Abstract
Ocular drug delivery is challenging due to the presence of tissue barriers and clearance mechanisms. Most widely used topical formulations need frequent application because of poor permeability, short retention, and low bioavailability. Invasive intraocular injections and implants that deliver drugs at the target site are associated with infections, inflammation, and even vision loss post-use. These gaps can be addressed by a delivery platform that can efficiently deliver drug with minimal tissue damage. Microneedles were introduced as a delivery platform for overcoming dermal barriers with minimal tissue damage. After the successful clinical transition of microneedles in the transdermal drug delivery, they are now being extensively studied for ocular applications. The attributes of minimally invasive application and the capability to deliver a wide range of therapeutics make microneedles an attractive candidate for ocular drug delivery. The current manuscript provides a detailed overview of the recent advancements in the field of microneedles for ocular use. This paper reviews research focusing on polymeric microneedles and their pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical properties. A brief discussion about their clinical translation and regulatory concerns is also covered. The multitude of research articles supports the fact that microneedles are a potential, minimally invasive drug delivery platform for ophthalmic use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Undetected vision problems are common in school children, and a prevalence of up to 40% has previously been reported. Uncorrected vision and lack of optimal eye wear can have a significant impact on almost all aspects of everyday life, such as development and learning, academic performance, pain and discomfort, and quality of life. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between uncorrected vision problems, educational outcomes, and musculoskeletal pain symptoms. METHODS A total of 152 school children (15.1 ± 0.8 years, mean ± SD; 40% males) were included in the study. All participants were recruited from a free-of-charge school vision testing program in Kathmandu, Nepal. Academic grades were collected from the school records of the participants' nationwide final grade examinations. A questionnaire was used to record the use of digital devices, screen time, and associated symptoms, including musculoskeletal pain (Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scales). RESULTS A total of 61 children (40%) had uncorrected vision, with a cycloplegic refraction of SER - 0.53 ± 0.52 (mean ± SD). Children with uncorrected vision had significantly more third division grades (26 vs. 9%, p = 0.004) and shoulder pain in general/during screen use (66 vs. 43/40%, p = 0.008/0.003; 2.1/1.9 vs. 1.1/1.0 mean pain score, p = 0.002/0.001) compared with children with normal vision. Sex based subanalyses showed that only girls with uncorrected vision had more third division grades (25 vs. 4%, p = 0.006), and only boys with uncorrected vision had more shoulder pain in general/during screen use (76 vs. 28/31%, p < 0.001; 2.2/2.4 vs. 0.7 mean pain score, p < 0.001), compared with children with normal vision. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study showed that even small refractive errors may impact educational outcomes and musculoskeletal pain in adolescents. Most of the participating children had low myopia, easily corrected with glasses. This suggests that regular eye examinations are important in school children, and there is a need for raised awareness among parents, and school- and healthcare personnel.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW As the management of ophthalmic and sinus disease advances, it is important to stay abreast of all current management options. This involves knowledge of adjacent anatomy and disease processes, and collaboration between multiple specialties. The authors provide a review of relevant ophthalmic and oculoplastic topics for the rhinologist. RECENT FINDINGS The scope and surgical skills of oculoplastic and rhinologist specialists have grown in conjunction with medical and technological advancements. Familiarity with the presentations of sinus disease in the orbit can decrease the time to disease recognition, and improve morbidity and mortality. Collaborative approaches provide improved access to areas of interest throughout the orbit and sinuses. Multiportal, transorbital, and endoscopic techniques can improve patient morbidity and mortality compared to conventional open approaches. Familiarity with all medical and surgical treatment options can help tailor treatments to patients' needs. SUMMARY Multidisciplinary approaches to sinus and orbit disease and the incorporation of new surgical technologies can improve patient options and outcomes.

Abstract
Purpose To assess the effect of visual impairment (VI), its severity, and ocular diseases on vision-related and health-related quality of life (QoL) in Jordan. Patients and Methods A comparative, cross-sectional, hospital-based study was conducted among a group of 278 patients with VI aged ≥ 18 years, and age and sex-matched control group of 278 individuals with no VI. An interviewer administered the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI VFQ-25) and the Medical Outcomes Study 12-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) to all participants. Results All the mean VFQ-25 subscales scores, physical component scale (PCS) and the mental component scale (MCS) of the SF-12 were significantly lower in patients with VI compared to controls with no VI. The VFQ-25 subscales (except general health and ocular pain), PCS, and MCS scores significantly decreased with more severity of VI. In the adjusted multivariate analysis, lower level of education (p=0.013), male sex (p=0.016), and the presence of cerebrovascular disease (p=0.019) were significantly associated with lower VFQ-25 composite scores in visually impaired patients compared to controls. Ocular disease duration of >5 years and progressive VI were significantly associated with lower VFQ-25 composite scores (p= 0.026 and p<0.001) respectively, in patients with VI. Glaucoma had a significantly larger reduction in mean scores of all the VFQ-25 subscales, and the PCS of the SF-12 compared to all other ocular diseases. Conclusion Both VI and increasing severity of impairment were associated with reduced vision-related and health-related quality of life in adult Jordanians. Glaucoma patients and less educated people were particularly affected. Routine assessment of QoL in visually impaired patients and improving referral protocols to vision rehabilitation services is recommended to improve the QoL in those patients.
