Abstract
This study delves into the dynamics of parenting styles and their impact on the cognitive and social-affective development of children within diverse family populations, contextualized within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Drawing from a sample population comprising families from various socio-economic backgrounds and cultural contexts, the research explores the nuanced interactions between parenting approaches-ranging from authoritarian/permissive to democratic-and children's developmental trajectories. By examining families with different numbers of children, this study elucidates the differential effects of parenting styles on cognitive adaptability and social-emotional skills across varying family structures. Democratic parenting emerges as a critical factor in promoting children's well-being, equitable access to education, and the fostering of peaceful societies, aligning with SDGs 3, 4, and 16. Furthermore, the research addresses disparities in child development outcomes, shedding light on issues of gender equality (SDG 5) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10) within the context of family dynamics. Through a comprehensive analysis of diverse family populations, this study underscores the significance of inclusive and nurturing parenting practices in advancing sustainable development objectives, advocating for collaborative efforts (SDG 17) to support families in fostering optimal child development outcomes for all.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Development of children born very preterm (VPT) is evaluated using the Bayley Scales of Infant Development. Early Bayley scores may not predict later outcomes. We studied whether VPT Bayley trajectories in the early years predicted school readiness better than single assessments. METHODS We prospectively evaluated 53 VPT at 4-5 years using standardized measures of school readiness, including the domains of cognition, early mathematical and literacy abilities, and motor skills. Predictors were Bayley-III scores obtained 1-5 times/child between 6 and 35 months. Linear mixed models (LMM) with random effects extracted estimated random effect for slope (change in Bayley score/1 year) and fixed+random effect sum for the intercept (initial Bayley score) for each participant, to then evaluate 4-5-year outcomes prediction. RESULTS Variability of individual trajectories prevailed across developmental domains. For the initial LMM, adding Bayley change to models with only initial score improved model fits for several Bayley-III domains. Models containing estimates for initial Bayley scores and Bayley change explained significantly more variability in school readiness scores (21-63%) than either variable alone. CONCLUSION Neurodevelopmental follow-up of VPT is more relevant to school readiness when children are assessed multiple times in the first 3 years. Neonatal intervention research could use early trajectories rather than single timepoints as outcomes. IMPACT This study is the first to examine individual Bayley scores and trajectories to predict school readiness of formerly preterm children at 4-5 years. Modeling demonstrated extreme variability of individual trajectories compared to the group's average trajectories. Models containing initial Bayley scores and Bayley change over time explained more variability in preschool readiness than either variable alone. Using the Bayley to predict future school readiness is enhanced by administration across multiple follow-up visits and inclusion of change across the first 3 years. Follow-up care models and clinical trial design for neonatal interventions may benefit from a trajectory-based approach to outcomes evaluation.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Sleep impacts the quality of life and is associated with cardiometabolic and neurocognitive outcomes. Little is known about the sleep of preterm-born children at preschool age. We, therefore, studied sleep and 24-hour rhythms of preschool children born very preterm compared with full-term children. METHODS This was a prospective cohort study comparing sleep quality and quantity of children born very preterm (gestational age [GA] < 30 weeks) with full-term children at the (corrected) age of 3 years, using (1) 2 parent-reported questionnaires (Brief Infant Sleep Questionnaire and The Munich Chronotype Questionnaire) and (2) at least 3 days of triaxial wrist actigraphy combined with sleep diary. We performed regression analyses with adjustment for sex (corrected), age, and birth weight standard deviation (SD) score. RESULTS Ninety-seven very-preterm-born (median GA 27+5; interquartile range 26 + 3;29 + 0 weeks) and 92 full-term children (GA 39 + 3; 38 + 4;40 + 4 weeks) were included. Sleep problems and other reported sleep parameters were not different between groups. As measured with actigraphy, sleep and 24-hour rhythm were similar between groups, except for very-preterm born children waking up 21 minutes (4;38) minutes later than full-term children (adjusted P = .001). CONCLUSIONS Based on parent reports and actigraphy, very-preterm-born children sleep quite similar to full-term controls at the corrected age of 3 years. Reported sleep problems were not different between groups. Actigraphy data suggest that preterm-born children may wake up later than children born full term. Further studies are needed to explore how sleep relates to cardiometabolic and neurodevelopmental outcomes after preterm birth and whether early interventions are useful to optimize 24-hour rhythm and sleep. Abstract
This review highlights the current state of evidence on interventions whose primary purpose is to change parenting style in parents of preterm, and other-high risk, infants. To date, interventions for parents of preterm infants are heterogeneous with variability in intervention timing, measured outcomes, program components, and cost. Most interventions target parental responsivity/sensitivity. Most reported outcomes are short-term, measured at age less than 2 years. The few studies that report later child outcomes in prekindergarten/school-aged children are encouraging, overall indicating improved cognition and behavior in the children of parents who received a parenting style intervention.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To define parenting/social characteristics associated with better-than-expected cognitive and motor outcomes in preschoolers at similar perinatal biological risk-level including various gestational ages at birth (GA) and perinatal complications. STUDY DESIGN Prospective cohort study (n = 87) of children at four years, median GA 29 weeks (IQR 26, 38). Assessments included Differential Ability Scales, Movement Assessment Battery, parenting styles, and social risk scores. Perinatal risk factors were weighted based on regression models for each outcome; individual calculated risk scores became predictors to extract standardized residuals from the mean (>1 SD above mean = better-than-expected). Mixed-effect regressions examined associations between positive adaptation and parenting/social factors. RESULT Perinatal risk scores explained 21-53% outcome variability. Children across all GA displayed positive adaptation. Children of parents with higher authoritarian scores had higher odds of better-than-expected outcomes (OR 1.17, p = 0.0002). CONCLUSION Parental structure may promote positive adaptation at preschool age in children with perinatal risk factors for poor development, including extreme prematurity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The importance of breastfeeding for both maternal and infant health is well established. However, it remains the case that only a small percentage of infants are breastfed after the first six months of life. Maternal negative breastfeeding attitudes are associated with a reduced likelihood of breastfeeding an infant, but they are a malleable target for practitioner interventions. By adjusting perceptions, and therefore behaviours within the population, maternal and infant health outcomes may be improved. As such, it is important to understand whether certain types of mother might feel more negatively about breastfeeding. Here. we investigated the relationships between parenting styles, personality traits, and breastfeeding attitudes. In addition, we aimed to address the interrelated nature of parenting styles by identifying 'types' of mother who may feel more negatively about breastfeeding. DESIGN A cross-sectional survey was used in order to measure parenting styles, personality traits, and attitudes to breastfeeding. PARTICIPANTS A sample of 1,347 mothers (age M = 31.4 years, SD = 7.4 years) participated. Recruitment took place through online mother and baby groups based predominantly in the United Kingdom. RESULTS More permissive and less uninvolved mothers felt positively about breastfeeding, but limited associations between personality factors and breastfeeding attitudes were found. We applied a cluster analytical approach to investigate whether there were particular 'types' of mothers in our sample, and if these showed systematic differences. Our analyses revealed two profiles, best described as 'high nurturance' (high scoring on authoritative and permissive) and 'low nurturance' (low scoring on these dimensions). These two types of mother showed significant differences along all four parenting styles, and our 'high nurturance' type was more conscientious and emotionally stable, and felt more positively about breastfeeding. CONCLUSIONS Parenting styles were associated with breastfeeding attitudes. Through identifying an underlying nurturance dimension that best explains differences in parenting styles across mothers, we provide a potential avenue to improving breastfeeding attitudes. By focussing on 'low nurturance' mothers in particular, professionals may be able to provide interventions to improve breastfeeding attitudes and, as a result, address low rates of breastfeeding in the UK.
