Abstract
Developing inexpensive and efficient catalysts for biomass hydrogenation or hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) is essential for efficient energy conversion. Transition metal phosphides (TMPs), with the merits of abundant active sites, unique physicochemical properties, tunable component structures, and excellent catalytic activities, are recognized as promising biomass hydrogenation or HDO catalytic materials. Nevertheless, the biomass hydrogenation or HDO catalytic applications of TMPs are still limited by various complexities and inherent performance bottlenecks, and thus their future development and utilization remain to be systematically sorted out and further explored. This review summarizes the current popular strategies for the preparation of TMPs. Subsequently, based on the structural and electronic properties of TMPs, the catalytic activity origins of TMPs in biomass hydrogenation or HDO is elucidated. Additionally, the application of TMPs in efficient biomass hydrogenation or HDO catalysis, as well as highly targeted multiscale strategies to enhance the catalytic performance of TMPs, are comprehensively described. Finally, large-scale amplification synthesis, rational construction of TMP-based catalysts and in-depth study of the catalytic mechanism are also mentioned as challenges and future directions in this research field. Expectedly, this review can provide professional and targeted guidance for the rational design and practical application of TMPs biomass hydrogenation or HDO catalysts.

Abstract
Abnormal melanin overproduction can result in hyperpigmentation syndrome in human skin diseases and enzymatic browning of fruits and vegetables. Recently, our group found that Keggin-type polyoxometalates (POMs) can efficiently inhibit tyrosinase activity. However, it remains unclear whether Keggin-type POMs exhibit optimal effects in vivo. Additionally, the inhibitory effect and mechanism of action of POMs on cellular tyrosinase activity and melanogenesis have been rarely reported. Here we demonstrate that our screened and synthesised PMo11Zn and GaMo12 show superior inhibitory effects on melanin formation as well as inhibition of cellular tyrosinase activity compared to other Keggin-type POMs. Intriguingly, we reveal that Keggin-type POMs competitively bind to tyrosinase mainly through more interactions with Cu2+ ions and the amino acid residue is capable of forming van der Waals, cation-π and hydrogen bonds, resulting in a reversible non-covalent complex formation. Our findings provide valuable insights into the design, synthesis and screening of polyoxometalates as multifunctional metallodrugs and food preservatives against hyperpigmentation.

Abstract
An isolated doughnut-like molybdenum(V) cobalto-phosphate cluster with the formula (C11NH10)2{[Co(H2O)6]@[H29Co16Mo16(H2O)16(PO4)24O36]}(H2PO4)·25H2O has been successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Single crystal X ray diffraction analysis shows that four {Co4O60} tetramers and eight {Mo2O10} dimers are linked by oxygen atoms and phosphate groups to construct a doughnut-type structure for [Co@{Co16Mo16}], in which one [CoII(H2O)6]2+ octahedron is enclosed. More importantly, [Co@{Co16Mo16}] exhibits promising photocatalytic performance for CO2 reduction with the CO formation rate of 6764.3 μmol g-1 h-1 and the selectivity of 96.89%. In addition, the cycling test indicated that [Co@{Co16Mo16}] can be reused for at least four cycles without significant loss of catalytic activity. The result of this work may provide new insight for the synthesis of highly efficient POM-based photocatalysts for CO2 reduction.
