Abstract
Hearing loss can impact an individual's mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. This review identifies existing research on client-centered interventions for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) clients which occupational therapy practitioners should understand. Databases searched included CINAHL, JSTOR, ERIC, PsychINFO, and Google Scholar. Full-text articles published in English from December 2013 to December 2023 were reviewed. After data extraction and analysis, 77 articles were synthesized, and interventions were categorized by type, occupation, relevant age group, theme, and professional performing the intervention. Understanding these interventions will help occupational therapy practitioners support DHH clients across the lifespan.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the application of the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) to the development of a family-centred intervention for families of children with hearing loss transitioning into early intervention. DESIGN The BCW was used in a mixed methods design to understand the gaps in family-centred service provision and to identify appropriate intervention functions and implementation options to address these gaps. STUDY SAMPLE Families and health professionals participated in different steps of the BCW. RESULTS The qualitative interviews revealed that families required individualised information and support. The quantitative and interview data suggested inconsistencies in the provision of information and support to some families. It was determined that administration of a needs assessment by the support professionals was the most appropriate target behaviour to address this issue. In the analysis of the professionals' capabilities, opportunities, and motivations for administration of a needs assessment, a resource limitation was identified, and therefore, a Minimum Data Set for a Needs Assessment Tool was developed to facilitate the assessment of families' needs during the transition period. CONCLUSIONS This study provided an example of how the BCW could be successfully applied to the design of a family-centred intervention for families of children with hearing loss.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to explore the impact of childhood hearing loss on the family unit and their resulting intervention needs. MATERIALS & METHODS Qualitative descriptive methodology was used, with in-depth interviews analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Four family units of children with hearing loss participated in the study, including parents (n = 5), grandparents (n = 7), and siblings (n = 5). RESULTS Five themes were developed from interview data: (1) the daily grind; (2) we're all in this together; (3) family dynamics; (4) the early intervention experience and (5) personal growth and adaptations. Family members were impacted in multi-faceted ways and identified informational and emotional intervention needs, with an integrative theme highlighting the emotional toll of childhood hearing loss on families. CONCLUSIONS Early intervention services have a crucial role in addressing third-party disability through a multi-disciplinary service delivery model that addresses the needs of all family members, beyond the child with hearing loss.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to develop a functional model of the drivers behind why families may decline early intervention services following the identification of a child as D/deaf or hard of hearing. METHOD This model was developed using a modified eDelphi method. Invited experts (N = 155) were provided proposed models of why families may decline early intervention services in accordance with current literature. In the first phase of feedback, participants (n = 23) provided changes they would make to the model to be more in line with their perceptions of lost to intervention. These changes were implemented, and a second phase of feedback with participants (n = 25) moved to accept the model as presented. RESULTS Agreement was reached on five main barriers to early intervention access for children who have been identified as D/deaf or hard of hearing (family experience, family culture, perceived vulnerability, perceived benefits, and perceived barriers). Each of these main barriers has associated examples of how they may manifest across different early intervention programs and situations. CONCLUSIONS This is the first theoretical model of why loss to intervention happens within early hearing detection and intervention. Having a model provides the opportunity for future work to implement novel approaches to support families during the early intervention enrollment process.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Parents are required to make informed choices for their children regarding the use of hearing amplification after hearing loss has been diagnosed. If parents choose a listening and spoken language approach for their child where the development of age appropriate spoken language is the parents' goal, then the early fitting and frequent use of hearing aids is crucial. Within the framework of family centered care, parents have the ultimate responsibility for supporting their child's hearing aid use. However, few studies have focused on parents' insights regarding the aspects that shape hearing aid use in the early years. Thus the aim of this study was to explore parents' firsthand experiences with their child's hearing aid use in the first 5 years. Understanding parents' insights will help improve service provision to optimize outcomes for children with hearing loss. DESIGN The study utilized a prospective qualitative design to explore parents' firsthand experiences with their child's hearing aid use. Purposive sampling was used to recruit 12 parents who participated in semi-structured interviews. Parents' responses were analyzed using thematic analysis. RESULTS Three overarching themes were conceptualized, namely: (a) towards hearing aids - journey into the wilderness; (b) adjusting to hearing aids - it's the journey, not the destination; and (c) support for my child's hearing aid use - it's not where you are going, it's who you have beside you. Each theme was further divided into categories and subcategories. CONCLUSIONS This study identified that parents have much to contribute to service providers' understanding regarding the aspects that shape consistent hearing aid use in young children. Parents shared many insights such as the emotionally daunting nature of the first few months post hearing loss confirmation, the influence of family support, and the importance of building connections and understanding about hearing loss and hearing aid use within their social networks. Based on these insights, the authors provide recommendations for clinical best practice that draw upon key principles of family centered care. They consist of practical suggestions including strategic support to overcome less optimal hearing aid use and ways to facilitate parent support within their familial and communal networks.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To extend research on positive aspects of health care, this article focusses on health care for children who tube-feed-this is because knowledge about tube-feeding for children is limited and fragmented. This is achieved by consulting with clinicians and carers who supported children who tube-feed to clarify their understandings of and experiences with brilliant feeding care. METHODS Nine clinicians and nine carers who supported children who tube-fed were interviewed. The interview transcripts were analysed thematically. RESULTS Findings highlighted several features of brilliant feeding care-namely: practices that go above and beyond; attentiveness; empowerment; being 'on the same page'; hopefulness and normalcy. CONCLUSIONS These findings show that seemingly trivial or small acts of care can make a significant meaningful difference to carers of children who tube-feed. Such accounts elucidate brilliant care as grounded in feasible, everyday actions, within clinicians' reach. The implications associated with these findings are threefold. First, the findings highlight the need for clinicians to listen, be attuned and committed to the well-being of children who tube-feed and their carers, share decision-making, source resources, and instil hope. Second, the findings suggest that carers should seek out and acknowledge clinicians who listen, involve them in decision-making processes, and continue to source the resources required to optimize child and carer well-being. Third, the findings point to the need for research to clarify the models of care that foster brilliant feeding care, and the conditions required to introduce and sustain these models. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION All of the carers and clinicians who contributed to this study were invited to participate in a workshop to discuss, critique, and sense-check the findings. Three carers and one clinician accepted this invitation. Collectively, they indicated that the findings resonated with them, and they agreed with the themes, which they indicated were well-substantiated by the data.

Abstract
PURPOSE Assessing the unique needs of each family following the diagnosis of a hearing loss is central to the delivery of family-centered hearing health care. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a Minimum Data Set (MDS) that could be used in the design of a needs assessment tool for families of children with hearing loss transitioning to early intervention. METHOD A list of potential items for the MDS was prepared. In a two-round electronic Delphi study in Australia, hearing researchers (N = 15 in Round 1; N = 9 in Round 2), clinicians, and professionals working in early intervention for children with hearing loss (N = 85) were asked to review the potential items and to rate the importance of items using a Likert scale. RESULTS Consensus was reached on 32 main items to be included in the MDS across six categories, including informational support (13 items), professional support (five items), peer support (one item), skills and knowledge (seven items), financial support (three items), and methods of information provision (three items). Eight optional items that could be considered for inclusion in the MDS were also identified. CONCLUSIONS The proposed MDS could support hearing professionals in identifying families' needs in order to provide individualized information and support. Future research is needed to conduct a pilot study to evaluate the needs assessment tool in terms of usability, feasibility, and therapeutic effects.

Abstract
Universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) facilitates early detection of permanent congenital hearing loss in newborns. In recognition of specific needs among parents, support services have been established within some UNHS programs, including the Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP). Despite this, there is limited research about how to best support parents in the context of well-established UNHS programs. This project aims to retrospectively explore parental support needs between the newborn hearing screen and enrolment into early intervention services. We used semi-structured interviews with parents three- to- six-months post confirmation of their newborn’s diagnosis of bilateral moderate-profound sensorineural hearing loss. Data were analysed using inductive content analysis. Thirteen parents of ten children were interviewed. Parents described high satisfaction with the support they received. Some parents felt unprepared for a diagnosis of hearing loss, having been reassured that transient causes such as middle ear fluid caused the hearing screen result. Parents reported mixed responses regarding the value of parent-mentor support along the pathway and some parents described needing additional psychological input to adjust to their child’s diagnosis. These findings provide insights into how a well-established UNHS program, VIHSP, supports parents along the hearing diagnosis pathway and how support can be further enriched.

Abstract
Family-centred care (FCC) has been established as a best practice model for child disability services internationally. However, further empirical support is required to explore the operationalization and efficacy of FCC, in the absence of a universal practice model. This review aimed to identify the key processes and outcomes of FCC in early intervention (EI) settings and the factors that impact FCC. A systemic review was conducted exploring the processes and outcomes of FCC delivered to children predominantly aged 0-6 years with disabilities/suspected disabilities and families as part of EI or early services. The search procedure was informed by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines (Moher et al., 2009). Narrative analysis of data was guided by Braun and Clarke (2006, 2014). Data were presented as per the standards for reporting qualitative research (SRQR; O'Brien et al., 2014). Forty-two studies were included. The majority (90.5%) outlined the processes of FCC, with 59.5% of studies detailing outcomes. Processes were largely reported as qualitative data and/or subscales of the Measure of Processes of Care (MPOC; King et al., 1995), which were subsequently collated. Findings indicated eight key operational processes and corresponding outcomes. Variables that hinder or facilitate FCC included family/professional characteristics, family/service resources, and parent attitudes, engagement and agency. FCC was largely conceptualized as the application of services to children and their families. Critical perspectives on FCC are discussed. It is hoped this research will contribute to the development of a framework of FCC in EI to inform services provided to young children with complex needs and their families and future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prior to developing a successful eHealth intervention, it is important that we explore stakeholders' capacity to adapt to eHealth. OBJECTIVE To explore what factors influence the use eHealth services from the perspectives of families of children with hearing loss and professionals who support families as they transition into early intervention. METHODS A qualitative study incorporating semi-structured in-depth interviews was conducted with families (n = 17) and professionals (n = 11). Interview topic guides were developed based on the COM-B model of behaviour change to explore barriers and facilitators related to capability, opportunity, and motivation. RESULTS The COM-B model captured several factors that may influence the use eHealth interventions for families of children with hearing loss. The capability factors included computer literacy and familiarity with social media. The opportunity factors were access to online resources, reliable Internet, and affordable equipment. Professionals' and families' preferences and a culture of face-to-face services were also identified as barriers for using eHealth. The motivation factors included families' and professionals' confidence in using technology and beliefs that there were benefits (e.g., saving travel) associated with using eHealth services. In contrast, beliefs that eHealth may be difficult to set up and not able to replace in-person communication identified as barriers to families and professionals adopting eHealth interventions. CONCLUSION Findings of this study indicated that implementation of an eHealth intervention could be facilitated by addressing the barriers in stakeholders' capabilities, opportunities (e.g., equipment and social support), and motivation (e.g., negative beliefs about eHealth) before developing eHealth services.
