Abstract
Objective: We aimed to investigate the accuracy of remote examination by photographs compared to in-person clinical examination for detecting potentially malignant oral lesions (PMOLs). Methods: The Reporting Guide and Guidelines for Writing Systematic Reviews (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis [PRISMA]) guided the reporting of findings. The search was conducted by two independent reviewers in six databases with no language restriction until November 2022. The Population, Test-Index, Reference Standard, Outcome and Study Design (PIROS) strategy guided the eligibility criteria, and studies with adult patients (P) examined remotely (I) and in-person (R) to verify the detection of PMOLs (O) were considered. The methodological quality was assessed by QUADAS-2, and the certainty of the evidence was measured by the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). Results: A total of 769 files were identified. After removing duplicates and reading titles and abstracts, 16 were read in full, from which 6 articles then comprised the qualitative synthesis. The oral clinical examination was the reference standard in four studies. Five studies presented high risk of bias in at least one assessment domain. A high probability of detection of PMOL by remote examination (97.37%) was observed for the three studies included in the meta-analysis, which presented high heterogeneity among them. The certainty of evidence for the outcome was considered very low. Conclusions: Remote tools for detecting PMOLs may be feasible and assertive, but new studies are required to incorporate them into clinical practice. Clinical Relevance: Remote examination for the detection of PMOLs has the potential to favoring the early diagnosis of malignant lesions.

Abstract
Objectives Public understanding of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) is minimally understood. Therefore uncovering communication gaps between the public and healthcare professionals regarding this disease is vital. Social media provide an unobtrusive way to understand public perception about health issues. Study design Computer-assisted quantitative content analysis. Methods Tweets about HPV-associated OPC (N = 3,112) were collected for 40 weeks using the standard real-time streaming Application Programming Interface (API). The collection of tweets was not limited to one specific geographic location but worldwide. All tweets were entered into nVivo 12.0 to conduct computer-assisted quantitative content analysis. We used an inductive method to develop a coding scheme and examined the frequency of specific keywords, terms, and phrases in texts. Results Findings show that (a) the majority of discourse on Twitter focused on risk factors and prevention with little information on diagnosis, treatment, and prognoses; (b) many tweets promoted HPV vaccination among boys and emphasized the risk of HPV-associated OPC among males; (c) the role of dental care professionals in the prevention and detection of OPC minimally appeared; (d) the public referred to OPC as oral cancer, head and neck cancer, or throat cancer; and (e) health organizations in New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom led the discussion on HPV-associated OPC on Twitter. Conclusions The current study unravels the utility of social media data and data mining techniques in understanding public perception and understanding of HPC-associated OPC. The outcomes from the current study provide baseline knowledge of where communication gaps exist in terms of HPV-associated OPC, without which the planning of potential interventions and much-needed social media-based campaigns cannot be effectively undertaken.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Dental and medical practitioners play a pivotal role in detecting early stages of oral cancers. Hence, future dental and medical practitioners need to have adequate knowledge of oral cancer. This study was conducted to assess the current level of knowledge, attitude and practices regarding oral cancer among dental and medical students of a Malaysian private university. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted on third-, fourth- and final-year students of the dental and medical courses of MAHSA University, Malaysia. A total of 557 students participated in the survey. Oral cancer awareness, knowledge about risk factors, signs and symptoms of oral cancer, attitude and practices towards oral cancer were assessed using 43 questions. The questionnaire was pretested, and internal consistency, assessed using Cronbach's alpha, was acceptable (α > 0.7). The data were analysed using IBM SPSS version 21. The chi-square test was used to analyse the difference in oral cancer awareness between medical and dental students. RESULTS Among 557 participants, there were 351 (63%) medical students and 206 (37%) dental students. Based on the results obtained, dental students had a higher level of knowledge than medical students regarding oral cancer (P < 0.05). More than 90% of the dental students were able to identify smoking, alcohol consumption, betel quid chewing, human papilloma virus infection and exposure to radiation as risk factors associated with oral cancer compared to more than 50% of medical students (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Through education and training, awareness amongst medical students can be reinforced, which will promote early detection of precancerous lesions and oral cancers.

Abstract
Background: Up to 86% of oral cancer (OC) patients present at the late stage where survival is dismal. Limited access to specialist diagnosis is a significant factor for late presentation. The increasing use of smartphones presents an opportunity to use digital technology to facilitate early detection of OC. Aim: To evaluate the feasibility of using Mobile Mouth Screening Anywhere (MeMoSA®) to facilitate early detection of OC. Methods: A mobile phone app named MeMoSA was developed and the feasibility of integrating this for documentation of oral lesions, and communication between dentists and specialists for management decisions were evaluated. The experience of dentists and specialists in using MeMoSA was determined using qualitative questionnaires. Results: Communication between specialist and dentists using MeMoSA stratified cases and streamlined referral of patients. Twelve of 48 patients were found to have oral lesions or signs suspicious of cancer and 3 required referrals. The patient's compliance for referral was tracked with MeMoSA. All dentists agreed that MeMoSA could facilitate early detection of OC and believed that MeMoSA could assist in the identification of oral mucosal lesions through direct communication with specialists and continuous learning in the recognition of high-risk lesions. Conclusions: MeMoSA has the potential to be used to promote equitable health care and streamline patient management that could result in early detection of OC.

Abstract
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, opinions and practices of dentists regarding early detection of oral cancer in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a simple random sampling technique with a self-reported questionnaire applied to 298 dentists, working in private and public sectors in three cities (Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah) in the UAE. Dentists’ knowledge about risk factors and diagnostic concepts of oral cancer, current practices and opinions as well as interest in continuing education programs were assessed. Results: The dentists, aged 23-65 years, were generally aware of the major risk factors most likely associated with oral cancer. Thirty percent of the participants identified the tongue as the most common site on which oral cancer develops. The best known clinical presentation of oral cancer identified by the respondents was a persistent ulcer (87.6 %). Only thirty dentists (9.9%) were comfortable in performing a biopsy in their clinic. Less than half (48.0%) had attended a continuing education course on oral cancer within the past 5 years. The majority of the participants (84.9%) felt that they needed further training on oral cancer detection. Conclusion: The findings of the present study identified several deficiencies in the knowledge of dentists working in the UAE with regard to early detection of oral cancer. Some changes to dental educational and training could be made to improve the confidence and ability of dentists in this regard.

Abstract
Some evidence suggests that the early detection of oral cancer (OC) during surveillance might improve survival rates. In addition to this, interventions aimed at enhancing public awareness and knowledge of signs, symptoms and risk factors of OC are thought to decrease the burden of disease. Nevertheless, there is much controversy with regard to the cost-effectiveness of population-based strategies for OC screening. Here, we present and briefly discuss timely findings that have put under scrutiny the applicability of approaches targeted at the early identification of patients with OC.
